The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

In an earlier post I claimed this was, along with Zodiac, the greatest American film of the year. I’m not the only one who thinks so (Variety’s review was a lovefest), but, judging by the mixed reaction here in Venice, I also know that I’m perhaps in the minority. Certainly it’s not going to be everyone’s taste. People are talking about it as Mallick-esque like that’s a bad thing. Not in my mind. For me, this is a masterpiece, plain and simple. At over two and a half hours, it’s long, slow, lyrical, elegiac, poetic, meandering; even its director, Andrew Dominik, says it has a story but no real plot. But the cinematography by Roger Deakins is exquisite, the direction is confident and assured, and there’s a truly mesmerising performance from Casey Affleck as Robert Ford that deserves an Oscar. The use of narration, too, is some of the best you’ll ever hear in a movie. It’s not all perfect. I found musician Nick Cave’s cameo so distracting it took me, momentarily, out of the movie. But that small detail aside, I found it a wonderful, wonderful film. Brave, moving, expansive, magnificent, artful, challenging, epic. Dominik should be congratulated for making it. Pitt should be applauded for not only his fine performance but for being his director’s 800-pound gorilla, and for making sure this got made the way Dominik (who was born in New Zealand, but grew up in Australia) wanted it. Ten word title and all.

This **** is just like playing with Barbie dolls - that is, if they were flesh and blood and tatooed all over.

Stop buying tabloids. I hardly even open them to read for free. Save up your money. Everyone is entitled to live their lives. The tabloids can focus elsewhere for their stories. Stop lying about the Jolie-Pitts.

Personally, I never thought he hated Jennifer. He doesn’t seem the type. He never said ANYTHING negative about her and didn’t allow his friends to either. He’s a decent guy which is probably one of the reasons Angelina is with him.

Between all those takes of “Matrix”-like gunplay, Common reported that he and Jolie became good friends and that she’s nothing like the tabloids would have us believe. “Angelina was the best — I’ve gotta tell you,” he said, flashing a grin. “She was, like, one of the coolest people I’ve ever met. I felt like the way she was encouraging me was just really warm and cool, and she brought the family around. I got to meet Brad — everybody was cool, just down-to-earth people there.

Feast of Love is just one of the many projects Morgan Freeman has recently taken part in and at the press day for MGM’s drama, ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! talked to the Academy Award winner about his upcoming comic book films, Wanted and The Dark Knight.

CS/SHH!: Can you talk about “Wanted” and “The Dark Knight”?

Freeman: “Wanted” is directed by a Russian director whose name is Timur Bekmambetov. Timur, sweet man and is an interesting director. Is the first foreign director that I’ve ever worked with. It was an interesting experience to play in a movie that is described as a graphic novel. It comes from some place I don’t know. I’m very, very curious to see how it works out.

CS/SHH!: Can you talk about your character?

Freeman: My character is not easily defined even by me who is a master of character definition. I play a guy who ostensibly heads up a fraternity of brotherhood of assassins. It’s like a guild of assassins. By guild we mean that it’s old. It’s been around for a long time. And they have peculiar abilities. In other words, one guy shoots a rifle from five miles away and hits his target. There’s no straight line in five miles. Is that informative?

CS/SHH!: What was it like working with James McAvoy?

Freeman: Great. He’s a hard working kid. Maybe too hard. By that I just mean he can over act, but this is an action movie and he got a little ill. But we were in Prague so I don’t really know. I remember working in Bulgaria, I also had the same affliction that he came down with. It was like an ear infection that’s really debilitating. Had something to do with the water I’m sure.

CS/SHH!: An ear infection from the water?

Freeman: Yeah, I was submerged in an icy stream for awhile.

CS/SHH!: On “Wanted”?

Freeman: No, on another picture called “The Contract,” which never opened here.

CS/SHH!: What was Angelina Jolie like?

Freeman: What do you want me to say? Something good or something bad?

Freeman: First I’m going to say something bad. She’s already taken. She’s an excellent person. Excellent actress. A joy to be with, a joy to work with. She comes by it honestly. Whatever it is, she’s got it.

CS/SHH!: Did she bring her family to the set?

Freeman: Oh yeah. They were all there. Brad is between so they stayed together as much as possible. He was there. I used to sing to her.

Freeman: (Singing) Angelina will you get up? She answered back I am not able. Angelina will you get up we need the sheets for the table. She laughed just like that.

CS/SHH!: What were your experiences like working on the Batman sequel?

Freeman: The sequel. Alec Guinness remarked one time that he made more money on those two [Star Wars] movies that he was just featured in than he’d made in his whole career and had little or nothing to do. That’s what it’s like.

CS/SHH!: Have you finished your part?

Freeman: I haven’t finished. I’ve got one more day. I travel all the way to Hong Kong to do it.

Wanted hits theaters on March 28, followed by The Dark Knight on July 18.

jennifer used him to promote her movies as well. usually, interview is published around the time the movie comes out to promote the movie. but most interview are done before the movie is finished or during the making of the movie. so he is not the only one that used jennifer (that’s what you believe) to promote his movie. jennifer used him to promote her. other celebs so the same as well. they always use something to promote theirs.
