Kanye West and 50 Cent are battling it out on Rolling Stone’s next cover. The big showdown happens in less than a week when their albums drop on the same date, September 11th. Here’s an excerpt of “Who Will Be The King Of Hip-Hop?”:
“My first album was the highest-selling LP of 2003,” 50 Cent says, pointing to the fact that 2003’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ moved more than 800,000 copies in the four days after it dropped. He goes on to note that his follow-up, The Massacre, was the second-highest-selling album of 2005. “That album sold something like 1.14 million in four days. Jay-Z’s last album sold something like 1.6 total. Kanye works for Jay-Z. Kanye is a worker bee. He’s never been able to generate a fraction of the interest that I have.”

I like 50 and Kanye, but what does Mr. West has that 50 does not? Grammys! Have y’all ever seen 50 winning a Grammy? Anyone? Bueller? I don’t think so!
50’s a sore loser, beefing with other rappers/singers (Diddy, Jay-Z, Fat Joe, Nas, Jadakiss, Ja Rule, The Game, R. Kelly, Shyne) like he has a chip on his shoulder. If 50 keeps on beefing with anybody in the business, his bite will come back much harder than his bark.
Kanye got more street cred than the G-Unit general does. He speaks his mind (”George Bush doesn’t care about black people”), swagger, and had his own music label, G.O.O.D. — Getting Out Our Dreams — with John Legend and Common at his side. This is why Mr. West is hot.
I’d like to get both of their albums — plain and simple! And as far as Kenny Chesney goes, I don’t like country music, but he doesn’t need controversy to sell records.

50 has got my attention more as an artist! He’s the last of the new era of rappers with cred, and then hiphop went dead..TI is tryin to keep up, but doesn’t do anything for me..
I think the only song that got me looking at Kanye was Godlddigger.
But Fiddy got more hits than him. And Kanye got lucky winning grammy’s in a year when the competition was low, and Fiddy had no new hits.
50 has got the most Grammy nominations and awards, anyways!

They’re both ****. It amazes me how people can call the noises they make with phrases of profanities, sex, and violence, “music”. They tell kids to stay in school, don’t do drugs, and neglect any violent acts, but the songs that they’re making are projecting exactly the opposite of those things. They are a disgrace in music, and neither of them deserves to be on the cover of the same magazine that real legends such as John Lennon, Bob Dylan, U2, The Rolling Stones, and Jim Morrison appeared on.

ithink kanye is musically and lyrically talented and when he talks about women its not misogynistic and he talks about different issues facing society. however his ego does bother me. hes great but not gods gift to the wrold. i like fiddys beats but thats about it. all he talks about is how much money hes got and has nothing else to offer. when kanye performs he gives great energy and includes the audience by himself. but fiddy needs someone else on stage with him and only mumbles is sucky lyrics.he may have sold more records than kanye. but he wont be remebered as one of the greats. hes oart of the reason why hip hop is dead.

Kanye is a whiny little ***** who can’t bare the idea of not winning the award he is up for. Also, he seems to think he is Jesus.
Fifty has beefs with EVERYONE.

What I hate most about rap is the topics of the songs. The most popular rap artists sing stupid songs. They sing about shooting someone or brag about their sexual prowess. The sex songs are totally vulgar and show no respect for women. I hate it. Some of the music is good, but the majority of it sounds like cr@p. The photos above look menacing, like they are mad and ready to attack somebody. Should’ve done full-body photos with the men dressed up like GQ models and facing AWAY from each other. Woulda been better.

oh yeah, real contributors to music.
Funny, rap artists are for the most part young kids who grew up in tough neighborhoods who decided the way to get out was to take a pen and paper and write words that rhyme. Whatever those words are, I think it is pretty amazing that you can look around your tough neighborhood and tell yourself, the way I am getting out is to write.
They are first and foremost writers. Jay-Z said when he was a drug dealer on the street, he used to walk around with a pen and write lyurics on a brown paper bag.
Now he is a mogul.
I say they have a strength, courage and resolve most people have not figured out how to get.
All of you critics, go ahead and write some words on a piece of paper instead of hating on people who have figured out a way to get out of their circumstance.
Kudos. It beats being on the street. I applaud them.
