OlderStuart Townsend: Charlize Theron is My Wife
Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend are husband and wife (but not legally). During a dinner party at The Supper Club, the couple even showed off their rings (he has a silver cross-shaped band on his ring finger).
“I’m married,” Stuart told People. “I didn’t do a church wedding or anything, but we’re married. We’re husband and wife. “We love each other and we want to spend our lives together. [She’s] the greatest woman I’ve ever met.
“We didn’t have a ceremony. I don’t need a certificate or the state or the church to say otherwise. So no there’s no big official story on a wedding, but we are married. … I consider her my wife and she considers me her husband.”
Stuart, 34, and Charlize, 32, met seven years ago on the set of Trapped. Theron attended the Toronto Film Festival to support Townsend’s directorial debut film, Battle in Seattle, a dramatized look at the 1999 World Trade Organization convention and the protests that overtook the city of Seattle and caused a state of emergency. Theron also stars in the film.
“It was really amazing tonight to premiere the film with her,” Townsend said. “She’s proud and she was crying, so it’s as important to her as it’s important to me. We’re a team and we’re in this together. That’s what you do. You look out for each other.”

It is great, marriage should be a commitment between two people. Why bring in the state and the church to it. But I do think pre-nup is a good thing, especially if one is more richer than the other. I think Charlize is.

Sorry. You’re not “married” until you do it officially, meaning papers. I could say I own your house. Hey, I don’t need the papers, right? Who needs them. I’ll just pop into your house one day and claim it. —It’s so stupid what they’re saying. It’s not recognized anywhere. Hey, just take a kid from an orphanage and say you adopted them. he’s Scottish, not Irish. What does nationality have todo with it anyway? And why call him a prick? So he answered questions about his relationship — if he had said, “it’s private, no comment” you would have called him a prick for THAT. Tim Robbins has called Susan Sarandon his wife, too, and they aren’t married and have raised kids together. What is a marriage to you? Apparently, the commitment part, the daily give and take, teh support o each other — that meanst nothing to you. What matters is a big wedding, a honeymoon, and sanction by the state to carry on your life with this person in a committed union. Some people are independent enough not to want to have the state tell them ow to live their personal lives, and are realistic and aware enough to realize that sanctioned by the state or not, a marriage has only a 50-50 chance of lasting anyway, so what’s the big deal? The real committment is a lot harder to make.

Uh, excuse me but states do not tell you “how to run your personal lives” when you’re married. You get benefits, in fact: property, inheritance, insurance, hospital visitation rights, etc.
If they Susan Sarandon, Tim Snob Robbin, and Charlize Theron really believed that documents don’t mean anything and that they don’t want to live by them –hey, why have an actor’s contract then? Just work for movies without papers. They don’t mean anything, right? It’s just your commitment… to your “work”. Oh, and when they have service people come and do work on their home, don’t make them sign a contract (hours, rates, liability, etc) because it’s all just about the “commitment”. Hogwash.
They don’t live by the very principle they claim. Hypocrits.
