Ryan Seacrest Bombs as Emmys Host
Sunday’s 59th Primetime Emmy Awards tanked in the ratings!
It scored the lowest ratings ever for the awards show franchise, a 4.3 rating/11 share among adults 18-49 — which is down 17% from last year.
Only 13.1 million viewers tuned in, making it the second worst in history!
The record low was in 1990, when it aired on Fox and drew 12.3 million. Last year when the show aired on Aug. 27 on NBC, it lured 16.2 million viewers.

I thought Ryan did a OK job. I dont think you can blame the ratings solely on the host. I mean people are just sick of watching awards shows because there are so many of them. The Emmys were a little over 3 hours last night. Thats just crazy!
as much as i think he is a tool, ryan had nothing to do with my decision not to watch. awards shows are always boring and this year in particular i didn’t care about any of the nominees.

I didn’t watch the awards. It had nothing to do with Ryan Seacrest. I haven’t watched a TV awards show in years because (for example) the supporting actress for drama category. They were from the same show - Grey’s Anatomy and the Sopranos. There was one other show represented. I don’t watch either of those shows because I don’t have HBO, and Grey’s Anatomy is just like every other one hour drama, to me.
Also, I don’t think it is a level playing field when you can have cable and regular TV represented. You can do a lot more on cable than you can on regular television.

I aggree with the previous post- award shows are boring and self-congratulatory events. The pre-show fashion is more interesting than the actual award show itself. Last night was super BORING. Thank goodness Colbert and company were around to liven things up a bit

I don’t know of a more deserving person for this to happen too. Ryan PeeCrust thinks to highly of himself and thinks he can make or break a star.

I didn’t tune in because I didn’t care about any of the shows being nominated… I don’t care about tv in general anyway. I watched the emmys via internet “updates.” That’s how the awards shows should go down anyway. You just pick and choose the clips/winners you want to watch. Skip over the hosts entirely. Now, if Mr. Wentworth Miller had been in the audience, I would have been glued to the set. Maybe. Just go ahead and say I would have been.

NBC is a joke network and they only have Heroes that’s more like wonnabe X-Men. CW’s big show ratings is America’s top model.

i actually preferred Ryan and his style….without overdoing the jokes and all which former hosts do as comedians.
must admit, the ratings should be blamed on viewers getting bored with the show as a whole….same programs, same celebs year in, year out - and getting so predictable.
thought they’d make more of a production out of the Sopranos to give them a proper farewell but that didn’t happen

It wasn’t the host - it was the craptasticness of the nominations. I decided not to watch the minute they were announced. The lame wins made my choice go down even easier.
I’ll start watching the Emmys again, whomever the host, as soon as they start nominating the best shows around, not Boston Legal, Two and A Half Men, etc. This is the same august institution that had to create a rule so the members stopped giving people acting awards for appearances that lasted LESS THAN 30 SECONDS.

I actually couldn’t give a $*%&( about the Emmys this year. TV has gotten really boring and the shows that won, no one watched (30 Rock won best sitcom???? Excuse me???? DAMN!) And outside of “Idol”, who really cares about Seacrest???? I know **** Clark and you, sir, are no **** Clark.

It’s rather funny/degrading to major networks to know that a silly Disney made-for-tv movie, High School Musical 2, drew a much bigger crowd than the Emmy Awards on a major tv network. Even last year’s award show too!
The primetime shows and stars are not as good as before. Ryan is a nice guy and his L.A. radio station is the no.1 listened radio in Calif.
The only shows I watch now are Bones,Idol and Dancing with the Stars but I hope Idol will have better talent because its becoming stale lately too.
The cable shows are dominating more in Disney its High School Musical
while on Lifetime Channel Army Wives is big hit.
I think people are getting a little bit tierd of Hollywood.
How can it score the “lowest ratings EVER” if you then go on to say, “making it the second worst in history!”… which one is it; worst ever or second-to-worst?
Who cares about the emmys. they are ridiculous and should only be published in the newspaper they after they are picked. And Ryan Seacock can host that all he wants.

Several reasons:
The pre-awards shows take away from the actual awards telecast.
In addition, there’s nothing to see these days on the pre show. They used to be only 2 hours before the show now there’s like a countdown to the awards as many as 5 hours before the show and on some tv stations, days before the show.
The shows are almost all ensemble with no breakout star that one must see.
There’s no glamour to the Emmy’s anymore.
Too many awards shows awarding for the same thing. People’s choice, Golden Globes and Emmy all nominate for tv shows. There should only be three awards shows on the air, one for TV one for Music and one for Film. All the other awards should be on cable or not televised at all.
Ryan was actually very good because he kept out of the way of the broadcast.
the theatre in the round set up a disaster from the moment it was thought up of. I’m sure that person is fired. That setting is only good from plays and musicals not an awards show. The reason? A big one that James Spader mentioned. One of the rudest things you can do is give you back to a live audience. Half the theatre saw nothing but the backside of the presenters and winners.
They should not air it next year just make it a banquet dinner.

Ryan is hated everywhere, not just on this blog, for the same reason Tom Cruise is.
There are lots of factors on why the Emmy’s tanked.
1. It’s football season, so half the male audiance is gone.
2. everybody hates Ryan Seacrest. you attach his name to somthing and you’ll only get annoying tweenage girls and gay guys. Straight men will boycot anything with his image.
3. The Emmys are made by professional Critics. A lot of people beleive that critics are elitiest who smell their own farts. so the Emmys don’t matter much to us common folk.
4. There was a major WWE pay-per-veiw going on at the same time, goodbye more of the male audiance.
Basically every guy had somthing better to watch. and people who hate elitiest were willing to avoid this. and everybody who hates ryan seacrest avoided this. Result only women and gay guys watched it.

counter programming seems to be a great strategy.
Another reason is that we all know the winners could put people in a coma so why not spice things up with hot presenters? Why must the presenters be gasbags as well? Did they have to have Alec “creepy” Balwin present? but they couldn’t get one of those guys from Prison Break to present?
I tuned in, saw Ryan Gaycrest and then I tuned out.

Well the show was on Fox and the Emmy’s approached Fox about Ryan. The Emmy people were kinda afraid because they thought he was overexposed but they went with him anyway. BIG MISTAKE. He also hosted E’s pre-show!
I thought Ryan was very good. And I enjoyed the show. The only thing I didn’t like was the tribute to the Sopranos by the Jersey Boys. It seemed more like a tribute to Frankie Vallie.
I think the ratings were down because so many people want to see the New England Patriots (post scandal).

I don’t watch award shows any more because they’re stupid and boring. Celebrities make enough money, get plenty of attention and the whole thing is fake….
they thank God as if they cured cancer, drone on about the importance of their “work” as if they’re building homes for the handicapped or something truly valuable, and the commercials are boring, too.
Anything worth being said has already been said at every other award show.(they’re always “blessed” to work with a great cast, grateful to have a wonderful director, and the “nice” ones mention craft services…YAWN!)
Sorry for the rant but all these award shows are narcissistic. And they’re a total snoozefest….and PS am sick of celebrities voicing their political opinions as if they actually live in the real world. And PPS am sick of hearing people whine about success and the paps etc…

I think this is because of the many bad shows that are today. The good shows today you can count in one hand! They always cancelled de good shows so why should I wacth an award show when I don’t care which one is gonna win, most of them suck anyway.
I love Ryan Seacrest snd thought he did a really great job…kept the show moving and no annoying jokes….He was a class act and it’s one of the only award shows I could watch from beginning to end without having to change the channel….can’t figure out what everyone hated….I think Ryan is getting bad reviews for no real reason except he’s so handsome and perfect…people hate him for that because they’re jealous!

Not sure why people are dissing TV or TV actors…the TV has had wayyyyy hugher quality art than the movies ever since Sopranos began…the major Hollywood movies have been pure swill….total garbage….sequel after sequel….I would rather watch a season of Lost or Six Feet Under or Office than sit through another lame action flick!
There were several reasons that this year’s Emmy Awards show was boring…
1. Ryan Seacrest hosting was a bad idea. They needed a comedian to liven things up and keep us entertained in between speeches. Ryan is suffering from over-exposure and so are we, the unfortunate TV viewers…please, give it a rest!
2. Fox was so trigger-happy with the censor button, switching to that awful shot of the venue when someone dared to speak in a way they thought might be offensive to the viewers or the Administration…they drained away every bit of excitement or anticipation about what might happen or what someone might say.
3. That whole “theatre in the round” idea fell flat, too…what brain thought that up? It distracted the presenters and the viewers.
This was the worst Emmy’s show I’ve seen and if they let Ryan Seacrest host next year, I’ll just watch the pre-shows and post-shows and skip the actual Emmy’s. I may boycott them, too, if Fox carries the show again. Enough with the censorship!
I thought Ryan did a fantastic job! I think he’s funny, down to earth, not to mention cute. :-) The Emmys was just boring this year and waaaaay to long. Ryan did a fine job.
Oh, and I want to add that actually, Ryan was the ONLY reason I watched. :-)
The Fox network should of known Seacrest is a joke.He is not funny and is about the most stupid host on T.V.The idol thing is bad enough.We do not need that show to find singers, actors, or anything else.Seacrest had his 15 minutes of fame like most of the winners on that show…time to put them all to bed.He has to go and the that show must go after that.What a waste!
I didn’t even watch, but oh well. Ryan probably won’t be the host next year.
