“I will say, I was surprised to see how tabloid journalism was alive and well even then and operating in the same way, just sensationalizing a complete fabrication of untruths,” said Brad Pitt, who stars as the legendary outlaw in “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.”

“There’s just more of it today. There’s more of it in quantity, but the execution’s the same. In that day, when you only had a newspaper to get your information, that would have been the extent of it. But it doesn’t seem to have changed at all,” Pitt told The Associated Press at the Toronto International Film Festival.

In the late 1800s, James was able to move anonymously through America under a series of aliases, but his notoriety was unparalleled. James’ image as a Robin Hood-style bandit of the people a myth he helped perpetuate himself had made him a folk hero to the public and a demon to the railroads.

The celebrity mystique that surrounds Pitt meshed well with the mythic nature of James, said Andrew Dominik, director of “Assassination of Jesse James.”

“It was the sort of part that you could cast a movie star in and it would make sense,” Dominik said. “It wouldn’t be miscasting Brad, who you never really feel like you know on-screen. He’s always retained kind of an essential mystery. He’s not a person people really identify with. He’s more of an object to them. They aspire to be him, but they don’t really identify with him.

“Those were really good qualities for Jesse. They’re both enigmatic and charismatic.”

He’s just so open. He’s a great player. Brad loves a good idea and a good conversation, and I think that extends to acting, really,” Blanchett said. “I think he’s got a really good nose for what works, and I think people will be blown away by him in `Benjamin Button.’”

Pitt now is shooting the Coen brothers’ dark comedy “Burn After Reading” with George Clooney, his partner in crime in “Ocean’s Eleven” and its two sequels.

While Pitt looks for roles that offer fresh dramatic possibilities, finding good work companions such as Clooney has become crucial in his job choices.

“As I get older, it’s the company I keep,” Pitt said. “It means something to me to have these friends out here and people I respect … Most of the movie is spent when the camera’s not rolling, and to work with these interesting people is really the most important thing to me.”

I just want to add that its NOT because Jen would not give Brad the babies that contributed to the downfall of the marriage. Family (children) is only ONE of the major reasons.

Another thing I want to point out is that Jen was too busy with her trying to establish a movie career. In 2003, Brad was in Malta filming Troy for 6 months, while Jen was in the United States filming Along came Polly and TV friends. They didnt spend much time together. They also grew apart. The Vanity Fair interview gave a lot of clues from Jen’s mouth.

They had nothing in common. They liked different things.

Put water or ginger ale in a wine glass and pretend to drink it like wine or put it in a glass with a slice of lemon so they think it is mixed with alchohol, but it is not, so you’re not drinking and they don’t know. That way you don’t stand out. So she may actually be preggers.

They kissed and caressed their way through a party for Pitt’s new flick The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford Tuesday night at Guastavino’s in NYC.

Though they spent most of the night apart as each made the rounds, they reunited around 12:15 a.m. when Pitt, 43, held hands with Jolie, 32, and rubbed and tickled her back.

Shortly thereafter, when they smooched on the lips, Jolie couldn’t contain herself anymore. “You’re so cute!” she gushed. They capped off the night whispering, giggling and smiling at each other in between — yep! — more kissing before heading out around 12:40 a.m.

“They looked completely in love and genuinely happy,” the witness adds. But Jolie wasn’t the only lady Pitt had love for that night. When a female fan held up a napkin reading ” It’s my birthday. Take a picture with me, Brad!” the actor happily obliged.

Yes, Angelina seems to attract a lot of attention at Brad’s premieres, but I don’t think he minds. I think he is proud of her and having her with him on the RC.

I’m gonna be honest and say that I’m not a fan of Brad or Angie -mostly because of the drama that unfolded with his divorce/speculation that he cheated. But with that said, I think Angie is very pretty - something stunning about her - Brad just has never been appealing to me ( too boyish looking for my taste - I find men like Clooney very handsome). But I feel sorry for these people. Their life is forever going to be slapped on the cover of magazines. when does this obsession for the pap’s end? I’m sure Pitt and Jolie do want to have a big family and help many children through adoption - but this lifestyle must be difficult to say the least. How hard is it going to be for the kids when their older and start dating and socializing? Are they going to still be in the spotlight as well and never get a moments peace? I hope this couple can find some sort of balance. Are they going to be dropping Mad off at school when he’s 15? how embarrassing will that be for him? This life they are living is insane for the kids. Maybe some of the fans don’t see it that way, but it’s true. There is not a day that this family is not hunted by photographers. It’s very sad to watch. How many pic’s of them dropping off Mad at school does the world have to see? There really needs to be a law about picture taking with the kids. Didn’t Jackie Onasis have a photographer slapped with a restraining order stating he couldn’t come within 500ft of her or her kids? Why did it work for her and not other celebrities??Do they have to wait til the children get hurt to take action? Just a thought.

They kissed and caressed their way through a party for Pitt’s new flick The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford Tuesday night at Guastavino’s in NYC.

Though they spent most of the night apart as each made the rounds, they reunited around 12:15 a.m. when Pitt, 43, held hands with Jolie, 32, and rubbed and tickled her back.

Shortly thereafter, when they smooched on the lips, Jolie couldn’t contain herself anymore. “You’re so cute!” she gushed. They capped off the night whispering, giggling and smiling at each other in between — yep! — more kissing before heading out around 12:40 a.m.

I am in total agreement, which is why I wish Jared would confine threads related to Brad and Angelina solely to their work and their relationship, but leave the kids completely out of it. No more threads about taking Madd to school, taking the younger ones to the park, etc. Sure, I love to see the pics, but it’s more important for these kids to have some privacy.

I prefer seeing any of their pictures at JJ than other hateful blogs. The photogs are the problem, not JJ. Leave JJ alone.

I just want to add that its NOT because Jen would not give Brad the babies that contributed to the downfall of the marriage. Family (children) is only ONE of the major reasons… Brad was in Malta filming Troy for 6 months, while Jen was in the United States filming Along came Polly and TV friends. They didnt spend much time together. They also grew apart. The Vanity Fair interview gave a lot of clues from Jen’s mouth.

They had nothing in common. They liked different things.

My 4 year old goes to a private school. I drop him off every morning in heels as I am on my way to work. Since we have seen Angie 1000 times drop him off in flats common sense would say she obviously has some place she needs to be (business meeting) after she drops him off or maybe she just feels like wearing heels, she has that right. She can wear anything she wants to, there is no law or rule as to what the attire should be to drop your kids off to school. Whats wrong with a private school? Why should we send our children to the crummy state school around the corner just because?? FYI my daughter, and her friends all go to private schools with wonderful facilities (swimming pool, gyms, music rooms, libraries, and yes its plural) and great teachers, small class sizes, specialist teachers for music, PE and art. They have to do community work however, and it is an important part of their curricula.

ACtive community work is one of the reasons why the kids do so well, they know they are privileged and are taught to strive to do something good with that privilege. The school produces students with top scores in the International Baccalaurette exams, entry into top universities. Why, if I can afford it, wouldn’t I send my child to the best school? Why would I send my child to a state school with poor facilities, teachers who don’t really care anymore because they are burnt out, with a peer group who think being smart is a tall poppy in need of being cut down.

I’m not rich, neither are my friends. We make the sacrifices.

One-woman Angel Network raises bar on giving back, rehabbing image

Over the last week or so, I asked friends and acquaintances this “Family Feud”-style question: Name something associated with Angelina Jolie. Some people blurted out answers immediately, word association style: “Lips!” “Lara Croft!” “Homewrecker!” Others took the opportunity to express their secret longings for Jolie. “I’d do her in front of my mother until I couldn’t walk,” said one respondent who happened to be married … and female … and a grandmother. Yes, Angelina’s sexy. This we know.

But coming in at No. 1 — ahead of even “Brad Pitt”, which was two — were answers having to do with Jolie’s humanitarianism and work as a Goodwill Ambassador for the U. N.’s High Commissioner for Refugees. I wasn’t surprised because this is the answer I would have given. When I think of Angelina, the image that pops into in my head is of the actress, makeup-free but still ravishing, giving aid and spreading hope to people in places most people would never want to go. Her Wikipedia humanitarian section reads like the most heart-wrenching season of “The Amazing Race” ever, with stops in Cambodia, Pakistan, Equador, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Kosovo, Kenya, Thailand, Namibia, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, Russia, Chad, Washington D.C. and my home state of Arizona, visiting detained asylum seekers at three facilities there. Who knew there were asylum seekers in Phoenix? Angelina, that’s who.

The jet lag alone would do me in. And then there’s the lobbying she does in Washington and millions of dollars she donates out of her own pocket. And unlike a lot of actors, who turn activist when the acting jobs slow down, Angelina is doing all this when she’s still super-hot, both physically and career-wise. It’s awe-inspiring.

In addition to doing a world of good for people in need, Angelina’s efforts have had some interesting side effects. It’s totally changed her image — the Billy Bob, vials of blood, brother-kissing Angie seems like a lifetime ago. But more importantly, she’s single-handedly raised the bar for other celebrities — and the rest of us — in terms of what it means to give back. You can’t just drive a Prius, or donate your Oscar dress to charity, or wear a colored ribbon to an awards show anymore. You have to get in there in the muck, keep your facts and figures straight, and do without Starbucks, Jamba Juice and Pinkberry for weeks at a time. It’s not for wusses.

When Paris Hilton got out of the slammer, she talked about wanting to do charity work. She even showed up at gala to raise funds for children with spinal cord injuries, which is great. The difference with Angelina and almost any star you can think of is that she really gets her hands dirty. When visiting a troubled land, she reportedly insists on staying in the same facilities where the UNHCR field staff stays. Can you imagine Paris or hell, even Oprah doing that? As we all know, Ms. Winfrey likes to help people, and she’s helped tons of them, but she doesn’t like to touch them, I don’t think. Have you noticed that or is it just me? Angie, on the other hand, touches you and hugs you and wants to take you home with her. And sometimes, like with her adopted children, Maddox, Zahara and Pax, she actually does.

I’m sure other celebs have no end of admiration for Jolie but I wonder if secretly some of them are thinking, ‘Give it a rest, girl. You’re making the rest of us look lazy and self-involved.’ Could she be to celebrity activism what Lance Armstrong is to cycling? Do some people think, ‘I’m never going to be that good so why even bother getting on the bike?’ If international activism were like the board game Risk, Angelina would have her little plastic cubes all over the map. Greenland might still be up for grabs, but maybe not. I think Leonardo DiCaprio might already have it.

If any celebrity can’t win for losing here, it would have to be Jennifer Aniston, the mega-famous ex of Jolie’s hottie boyfriend Brad Pitt. Say Aniston wanted to go to Zimbabwe or Chad or Phoenix to help out with something — maybe Bono invited her personally — the media would accuse her of trying to horn in on Angie’s act. So Jen makes movies, endorses Smart Water and gets a GLAAD Award for being simultaneously famous and OK with gay people. She probably does other good stuff, too, but I can’t think of it off hand. Jen’s best bet, in terms of bolstering her do-gooder image, would be if some horrible, natural disaster were to hit Greece. She’s of Greek descent, after all, so she could chopper into the homeland, pass out food rations, maybe autograph some sand bags, and get all sweaty and tear-streaked. That could be a home run, assuming Nia Vardalos doesn’t get there first and make it all C-listy.

The way I see it, if any modern starlet — or male star, for that matter — wants to come close to Angelina in terms of humanitarian cred, the best bet is to come down with a disease, conquer it gracefully and then help others with that same disease. The ideal scenario would be to get the disease named after you — like Gwynethitis or Afflecksia. The big risk here is that Angelina would, with the help of her contacts in the international medical community, cure your disease and then you’re back to square one. And she’d look smoking hot in the lab coat, too, so you really can’t win. The only way you can win is if Angelina gets fat. And judging by the recent spreads in In Touch, Star and Us Weekly, that doesn’t look like it’s happening any time soon.

“She’s just too many things,” said one of the respondents to my “Family Feud” question. “She’s beautiful, she’s talented, she’s smart and she helps millions and millions of people. I’d be surprised if she doesn’t secretly know how to fly. I’m waiting for the day she just flies down the red carpet.”

In the meantime, I’m going to take a page out of Angie’s book and give back. No, seriously, I am. There’s a local youth mentoring program called Lifeworks I’ve been thinking of getting involved with. I met the founder a while back at a party and have kept his business card on my desk for months. Every once a while, I’ll pick it up, think about signing up to help, then put it down again, deciding, ‘I’ll get involved when things calm down.’ But of course, things never calm down. So this week, in honor of Angie, I’m picking up the phone and volunteering. And if I don’t and I blow it off yet again, Angelina’s welcome to come to my house, wrestle me to the ground and berate me like the weakling that I am.

I don’t know why people bash her movie A Mighty Heart as a failure. Angelina did not make that movie to be a big box office success. She made the movie because she believed a story of such great courage should be told, recorded, and remembered.

As for the final tally of how much money the movie makes, those figures will not be in for a while. It will be a success overseas because Europeans are more interested in world events than Americans are. I’m ashamed to say that Americans can be very blind to the rest of the world. It will also do well in video. She has every reason to be proud of her contribution to seeing that movie made. She didn’t make the movie thinking about the bottom line.

Brad Pitt: ‘We’re Not Going to Change Our Life’

Bodyguards surrounded Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie at the Big Apple debut of Brad’s new flick “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” and “Extra” was in the middle of all the action.

“I feel so secure,” Brad joked as he broke away from his entourage of protection.

So why did the world’s most beautiful couple have a virtual barricade from fans?

The extra protection could stem from a scary scene at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month, when a fan lunged at Brad and pulled him toward her.

But Brad was able to shrug it off, telling us last night, “It’s something to be aware of, but as I said, we’re not going to change our life.”

As fans screamed for Brad, the couple left their own security long enough to sign a few autographs and greet fans.

Brad, who is getting rave reviews for his performance in the film, told “Extra” about their plans to expand their already huge 9-foot-wide bed.

“I’m going to have to keep expanding for the family sleepover nights,” he said.

Stop trying to sound smart. You’re not. I wouldn’t change my dogs name after 3 years let alone a child!! She took away the one thing he recognizes… his name. Not only didn’t he understand the english language but then he didn’t even understand his new name. Understandably she wanted to honor her mother’s wishes, however, maybe she should’ve saved the “blessed name” for a biological child - one that hasn’t already come into the world with one. If she wanted Pax to be familiar with his culture then why not let him keep his name?! Don’t give me your psycho babble about what the name Pax means… it’s not his real name. PERIOD. I have no problem debating your opinions, especially if their not in line with mine. It is YOUR opinion that renaming her son Pax Thien was atrocious. It is OUR opinion that she and other adopter parents have the right to name their child anything they want. It is YOUR opinion that 3 years old child was too old to adapt to a new name. It is OUR opinion that a 3 years old child is young enough to adapt to a new name, loving parents and learning English at the same time.

As someone who has worked in the field of adoption and foster care for many years, I’d agree with you, with some reservations. I don’t think a three year old is too old to adapt to a new name. Four is a little more tricky, and I definitely wouldn’t change a five year old’s name, unless the child wanted to change it, and then I’d let him pick his new name. It is his name, after all. I’ve seen foreign adoptions where the parents decide to keep the child’s name in order to help him maintain his ethnic identity, and as soon as the kid is in school, he wants to change it to a name that sounds more like his classmates. In this case, little Pax seems to be adapting very well to his new name and his new family, and that, of course, is the bottom line.

I guess Pax told Jill he’s adjusting well. OK, your “professional opinion” has been noted. So basically Pax was saved from any adjustment since he missed the “cut off date” of 4 years old. Although children are resiliant at such a young age, why make them adjust to a new name, really? Angie’s not one for keeping her kids in this country for long periods of time, so why would he have to change his name to sound more like classmates? Which classmates, on which continent? I am a mother and I have a toddler, I can’t even begin to imagine my child adjusting to a new name. Their name identifies them. It just sounds wrong TO ME.

AJ shoes are not appropiate for a small kids school. She has no idea how ridiculous she looks. But I do.
