It is good to read up on BP and AJ projects, their humanitarian work and their careers without all the nasty gossip and slanderous BS. The Darfur Now film sounds interesting. In the news today was about the flight of Iraq refugees, so many things happening around the world, journalists are giving some needed exposure about these people, in part, thanks to Ange for being there & let the people know that refugees even in Iraq needs help. Darfur is one place that is closer to Ange & Brad’s heart. I hope, people take noticed of their flight. More power to Brad & Ange, I hope after L.A. premiere, they will relax & rest. They’ve been really working hard lately.

I am so proud to be Angie fan. At a young age of 26, she decided her life philosophy needed a new direction. She became less self-absorbed and became a humanitarian and a single mother. She focused her life on alleviating other’s pains and ills rather than perpetuating her energy toward self-gratification.

While her haters constantly focus their attention on her teen and early 20’s years, she has transformed herself into this selfless, kind-hearted, beautiful woman.

I am sure Brad is kicking himself silly that he gets to go home to her. He doesn’t deserve someone as amazing as her, and he knows it. That’s why he is doing darnest to support her in every way. Average folks cannot comprehend someone like Angie, so media keeps one-dimensional folks happy by writing endless cartoonish fictionalized version of Angie. Unfortunately, I have to read trolls messages in this site that proves my point about the tabloid’s focus audience–one-dimensional folks who cannot comprehend someone as complex as Angie.

I enjoyed the GMA clip, Brad is one of the most charming , down to earth celeb. When you read his past interviews, he always talks about “sadness” I think even in one of his interviews after he split with Paltrow he went even deeper, I wonder if Brad has ever suffered from depression. Cause he has always talked about this. I also realized watching this interview and some of his interviews for Jessie James promo, that Brad is truly proud and touched to with this film because of the connection to where he grew up. He called it “home”. I think he said he was suprised how much that meant to him. I think the interview was sweet, and I perfer Diane Sawyer than Ann Curry. I think Brad likes Diane Sawyer also.

Just goes to show how ignorant her fans are, worshipping blindly.

When George Clooney comes to the UN, you can bet UN staff are out in full force to meet him and have pictures taken. You never see those pictures in these blogs because he does NOT bring celebrity photographers. Jay-Z, we waited an hour for him to finish his press conference. Roger Federer, we snuck into the meeting to hear him speak. Even Michael Douglas gets more attention from Staff. I don’t know of any of my co-workers who’ve ever bothered to wait for your hypocrite box-office flop idol.

Harry witnesses THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD!

There are few tales told with the somber bittersweet taste of melancholy, like that of THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD.

Why submit to a tale of melancholy – a film where you know right from the out start… Jesse James will be shot, in the back, by the coward Robert Ford.

Everyone knows that part of the story. It’s widely known that Bob Ford shot Jesse James while he was dusting or adjusting a photograph in his own living room. However, do you know why Robert Ford pulled that trigger? Do you know how well they knew each other, that Bob loved Jesse James more than any other person on the planet – and that there’s a lot more to the story than that eventual act of cowardice – which could be interpretated as an act of mercy, an act of self-defense or just an error in judgment… a mistake.

It is a very interesting time we live in where I’ve just seen one of the best Westerns since the death of the Genre with 3:10 TO YUMA – to then be faced by the exact sort of masterful Western that killed the genre altogether.

In the late 1960’s and 70’s – a genre of western came about that ignored the Penny Dreadfuls, the myths and the legends – and instead of the John Ford or Howard Hawks Western take – there became a new way of making westerns. They were Westerns that new they were dying. Films like THE WILD BUNCH and THE PROFESSIONALS were the first signs… They were the brutal westerns where your friends died and the good guys and the bad guys started to become… well, less clearly defined. Then came the Westerns that ceased to look like anything we’ve seen before – no – not ZACHARIAH or EL TOPO – though those definitely count. No – I’m talking about films like JEREMIAH JOHNSON, A MAN CALLED HORSE, THE BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE or PAT GARRETT & BILLY THE KID and THE LONG RIDERS.

These were films about the sad reality of legends. It all sort of culminated with UNFORGIVEN – they underlined that the old west was a beautifully ugly world. The whores were no longer Marlene Dietrich, but women that’d gut you as easily as the men. The photography and the scores for the westerns became arty and obscure. They ceased to be about characters you could root for and get behind, and became about how we’re all alone on this world and we’re all going to die badly… oh… and there’s no such thing as a hero.

THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD is a brilliant western in that crowd. I love these films – just as I love the mythic westerns. But with this film in particular – it isn’t so much about demystifying the myth of Jesse James – as much as punctuating how tragic and sad the end of that myth was.

My favorite all time Jesse James on film is currently Brad Pitt. There’s a wild rabid dog in his eyes – there’s moments when he’s a nightmare and yet you could see why people would like him. Don’t get me wrong – I love James Keach and Tyrone Power. This particular story was done very well by director Samuel Fuller with his I SHOT JESSE JAMES, as Sam’s very first film to direct. Even James Dean played Jesse on Walter Cronkite’s amazing show, “YOU ARE THERE” – and I have to wonder what that was. I’d love to see it – just because James Dean was very definitely an actor – not unlike Brad Pitt in technique and style. But Brad’s Jesse James is a squirrelly character. He observes the room he’s in, studying anyone in it and their every move. And everyone else reacts to him – as if he’s a rattlesnake. They become still and cautious. There’s respect and fear. Nobody wants to get bit, but they all know if they spend too long with him, it’ll be an inevitability.

However, as great as Brad is as Jesse James – the actor to watch and marvel at in this film is Casey Affleck.

I know – that sounds astonishing, but it is absolutely the god’s own truth. Casey Affleck delivers the single best performance that I’ve seen thus far this year. His Robert Ford is a reprehensible little worm. There’s something about the way he plays this character that makes you want to stand up from your seat and slap the ***** around then hit him with a ******* shovel. He’s vile and disgusting. But on the surface, he’s just a nice unassuming guy. You would never really notice him. It might be that we all know he’s going to shoot Jesse James. And this story is very much about why that act was such a vile betrayal.

Casey’s Bob Ford is young. He hero worships Jesse James. The line in the trailer, “Do you want to know me or be me?” is so icky in the film, because Casey is watching. Casey’s smile is so disingenuine as to make my skin crawl. It literally gave me the heebie jeebies.

However – this is all distracting the real star of the film… Andrew Dominik. We last saw him with CHOPPER – an utterly brilliant film which birthed Eric Bana on to the scene. The two films are pretty far apart, but essentially a similar tale. Wild Rabid Dogs of the human variety facing betrayal and an end to their reign of terror. But in CHOPPER it was stark reality. Here, it is poetic. There is brutality, but it punctuates the beauty of existence, which you could say is reality. We live in a beautiful world that is punctuated by ugliness. When you watch this film – it’s impossible to not be intoxicated by how beautiful it is. Roger Deakins is a shoo-in for a nomination at least for his work here.

Then there’s the melancholic thread punctuated by the beautiful musical work of Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. If you loved Nick’s brilliant work on THE PROPOSITION – he is again at the top of his game here. That score in conjunction with the narration provided by someone named Hugh Ross… well it gives the film a feeling of impending doom. Any smile or laughter you see are momentary hiccups on the tragedy that is inevitable. Any hope is ended by the deliberate nature of the score and Hugh’s deliberate and slightly sad narration.

Yes everyone, I am Angie fan first and foremost. I believe Angie is the one who brought altrism to Brad. Before her, Brad was sitting in his sofa, eating Mexican food with whats-her-name with no-care attitude about how to live his life. By engaging in meaningful dialogues with Angie while filming MAMS, Brad realized there was more to life than complete dedication toward selfish behaviors(I guess his X still hasn’t realized the value of altrism). Angie saved him from his old self and he knows it. I am sure he is constantly amazed by how Angie lives her life. Yet, whenever he sees her, he also sees this goddess of a woman who is sexy with the most beautiful face. How can he not be thanking the Lord everyday that Angie finally caved into his neverending pursue of her?!

I don’t agree with everything you just said. Angie has said herself that she was “suprised” that Brad cared about issues, she also said he is more quiet in his way. I am a Brad fan first and foremost and Brads kindness and care for others just didn’t start because of Angie. Give credit where credit is due, Brad had the smarts to actually use all the press that he was getting and use it for good. He was smart when he used the Primetime Live Interview and basically said to Diane Sawyer that if you are going to get in my biz, then come to Africa with me. Not only was that interview highly rated but the chairty he does with Bono also got a ton of donations. After that interview, everyone started to follow suit. Yes Angie has been involved as UN Ambassdor but since she and Brad hooked up Angie got alot more attention than she use to. It is all because of her relationship with Brad. Peeps always want to put him down, like he is somehow not good enough or he is so lucky to have Angie. I say they are BOTH equally lucky to have each other.

UN the question was If security is soo tight, why would the let her bring her photographers? because she asked for clearence? if she is as unimportant as you say then they wouldn’t grant it. And a photographer can sell there pics to anyone they want if they are freelancers, and many that work for the “Serious Press” are. Yes everyone, I am Angie fan first and foremost. I believe Angie is the one who brought altrism to Brad. Before her, Brad was sitting in his sofa, eating Mexican food with whats-her-name with no-care attitude about how to live his life. By engaging in meaningful dialogues with Angie while filming MAMS, Brad realized there was more to life than complete dedication toward selfish behaviors(I guess his X still hasn’t realized the value of altrism). Angie saved him from his old self and he knows it. I am sure he is constantly amazed by how Angie lives her life. I am so proud to be Angie fan. At a young age of 26, she decided her life philosophy needed a new direction. She became less self-absorbed and became a humanitarian and a single mother. She focused her life on alleviating other’s pains and ills rather than perpetuating her energy toward self-gratification.

While her haters constantly focus their attention on her teen and early 20’s years, she has transformed herself into this selfless, kind-hearted, beautiful woman.

I am sure Brad is kicking himself silly that he gets to go home to her. He doesn’t deserve someone as amazing as her, and he knows it. That’s why he is doing darnest to support her in every way. The premiere of “Darfur Now” is way different than the red carpet we’ve seen these past few days, they can’t be lovey dovey all the time specially you are at the UN, a lot of respected delegates & people are there. I’m sure, they want to hold hands & be closer together tonight but they can’t because this is very different event. They are there as goodwill ambassador not as an actor. Loved Brad on GMA. People don’t like seeing a man involved with his family like Brad. Brad is a great guy, everyone always says that. He is not pencil whipped. Pitt will replace Matt Damon, who had been looking forward to a reteam with Wahlberg, his co-star in “The Departed” and a fellow Bostonian. Damon just had too many projects on his dance card to make the film on the schedule Par wanted.

It’s believed Damon gave his blessing to Pitt, his co-star in the “Ocean’s Eleven” film series.

With the exception of Pitt, all of the pic’s principals have Boston ties. Wahlberg hails from South Boston. Aronofsky graduated from Harvard, while Silver is from Massachusetts and went to Boston U.

Wahlberg has been vigorously training to get into shape for the ring. Paramount is aiming to get the film into production in fall 2008.

Dicky threw his gifts away on drugs and a robbery career that landed him a sentence of 10-15 years in state prison — but he kicked drugs, became a model prisoner and turned his life around. When he left jail, he became Mickey’s trainer at a time when Ward was losing fights and was ready to hang up his gloves. Together, the brothers found the spark that led to a remarkable string of victories for Ward and the world title.

Pitt next stars alongside Edward Norton in “State of Play,” the Kevin Macdonald-directed adaptation of the Brit miniseries for Universal. He’ll next be seen starring in “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” and recently wrapped “Benjamin Button.” He’s starring with George Clooney in the Coen brothers pic “Burn After Reading.”

He also has a lot of knowledge about acting and the different schools of acting. It was late when I was looking at it and could not stop. Wish I could find the interview by Diane Sawyer right after his separation from X. Thought I had saved it but it is no longer availible. I think X could not meet Brad on this level whereas Angie can. She is just as intelligent and I’m sure they have really good discussions. She said that the way they wanted to raise their kids is what attracted them to each other. Brad said on Charlie Rose that he and Jen were very different. I guess the difference got to great and separated them. A couple must grow TOGETHER or they will not last.
These two are just great. Just watching and reading about them makes me happy that there are celebs out there that are real, kind and care about other things besides beauty and material things.

A good part of the picture’s fascination is Brad Pitt’s portrayal of Jesse James as, to use the elevated language of the narrator, “increasingly cavalier, merry, moody, fey.” Psychotic too, of course — this Jesse looks like he hasn’t had a good night’s sleep in a decade — but outwardly sane most of the time, even stabilized by common sense. “They’re all lies, you know,” Jesse says dismissively of the newspaper and magazine articles that romanticize his exploits.

The most mesmerizing spectacle, though, is the most elusive one — Casey Affleck’s phenomenal, close-to-the-psyche performance as Bob Ford. This sponge-souled sycophant gives everyone who meets him the willies, and no wonder; he’s at least as crazy as Jesse as he swings between worshipfulness and paranoid fantasies that the object of his worship can read his turbulent thoughts. In a sense no one’s at home behind his shifty eyes. First he plays a provisional version of himself, a self of slightly more substance than the nobody he feels he is. Then he studies Jesse, as if preparing an impersonation. In the coda, a theater production that explains the movie’s title, he goes back to playing himself, but the self of seedy legend who must endlessly re-enact, on squalid stages, the act of cowardice and betrayal that made him infamous.

What is wrong with Angie drinking. You guys act like you have never had a drink! I drink when I go to parties and sometimes I may have a little too much. Angie is not as you present her. Many times when negative comments come out it means that you have a need to trash someone that you know absolutely nothing about. It really just make you sound like a sad, lonely, vindictive person.

Pat, there’s a demographic out there that purchases enough tabloid product that as someone said, they’ll just keep going. Celebs are for tabs what sopa opera actors are to daytime writers. The story lines are outrageous and improbable, the casting predictable, and the cyclic nature of the plot inevitable. But how easy when you have all this visual content spilling at you all the time, and all you have to do is make up a story to explain that visual. “Angie is angry!” Nevernind if it is because she stubbed her toe. An angry looking pic means Brad is out the door.

Easy to cast Angelina Jolie as a maneater because my god, look at her, someone with looks like that could be, must be, surely IS one (or so ignorants would like to believe). Nevermind I have never seen a man eaten by a woman against his will. haha.

Were Joie blond, fair-skinned, and didn’t have a hint of ethnicity in her features nor that come hither lilt to her eyebrows but _Jennifer Aniston_ was the one who looked like a couture model, trust me, the cover lines would screech about taking a peek inside Brad’s happy-at-last all American home.

They’re just rehashing this like it’s Debbie Reynolds and Elizabeth Taylor all over again.

I for one find the tabs with the stories that insist “Brad is taking Shiloh” to be in especially poor taste. That sort of speculation about a division of siblings is just wrong. This was a film premiere not a UN function, so the director and the studio that released the picture had their PR departments arrange for appropriate press. The UN was symbolic and basically just a place to screen the film. No biggie. If this film was screened at the US Ambassador to Sudan’s home I guess you would have chosen the name “household staffer” huh?

September 21, 2007 — AS pretentious and lengthy as its title, “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” is a gorgeous snooze, somewhere between imitation Terrence Malick and a feature version of star Brad Pitt’s notorious Vanity Fair layout with Angelina Jolie and their faux kids.

Pitt is the latest in a long line of pretty actors - everyone from Tyrone Power to, most recently, Colin Farrell in “American Outlaws” - to play the legendary robber, here seen alternately as a psychotic killer and weary, bullet-scarred family man approaching both middle age and the end of his life.

As the film opens in 1881, most of Jesse’s original band are long dead, and his brother Frank (played briefly by Sam Shepard) retires after one last train robbery (which is about as exciting as this movie gets).

As Frank was much smarter than Jesse, the latter spends his final months hiding under an assumed identity and planning jobs that were never executed.

He spends more time worrying that members of his ragtag entourage will turn him in to collect a bounty offered by the governor of Missouri (a scene-stealing cameo by James Carville).

Rubbing out several of his confederates, Jesse gives insufficient thought to the sycophantic Bob Ford (Casey Affleck), a stuttering 19-year-old fan of dime novels about Jesse’s exploits who has entered the gang on the coattails of his morose older brother Charley (Sam Rockwell).

Amid more pregnant pauses than a season’s worth of Pinter and visuals practically plagiarized from Robert Altman’s “McCabe and Mrs. Miller,” Aussie director Andrew Dominik (”Chopper”) offers a variety of explanations for the titular act, which finally occurs 132 long minutes into the movie.

Besides the reward, self-preservation and jealousy of Jesse’s celebrity, the flick rather heavy-handedly suggests Bob Ford had unresolved homoerotic issues.

This is most hilariously spelled out in a scene where Bob tries to engage a distracted Jesse, who’s taking a bath, in a conversation about their being the “same size.”

This artsy adaptation of Ron Hansen’s 1982 book, which further obscures things with hard-to-follow accents, doesn’t pick up even a little momentum until after Bob shoots Jesse in the back.

The final half-hour is essentially a lengthy coda devoted to Bob’s life afterward, which began with 15 minutes of fame as he and his brother re-enacted the assassination in a traveling stage show.

Charley takes his own life, while Bob endures a famous ballad about “that dirty little coward” (performed on-screen by Nick Cave) before being shot to death by another fame-seeker.

“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” has been on the shelf for a year, with Warner Bros. reportedly testing as many as half a dozen different cuts to indifferent audience response.

Even Pitt’s head-scratching best actor award at the Venice Film Festival (he basically plays Jesse as an attitudinized version of himself in a fashion layout) isn’t going to help much.

The events here were far more entertainingly covered by Sam Fuller in his directing debut, “I Shot Jesse James,” recently released on DVD - and it’s half as long, to boot.

Although the title slyly hints at a big-bang theory, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is anything but a traditional shoot-’em-up.
Though there is plenty of gunplay, this is a wondrously contemplative and poetic saga that offers a fresh and bewitching take on a timeworn genre.

CLIP: Get a look at Brad Pitt as the outlaw Jesse James
Its deliberate pacing and majestic beauty is reminiscent of Terrence Malick’s Days of Heaven. That meditative style serves to bring into startling focus the gorgeous Western landscape as well as the complex internal geography of key characters.

We know the inevitable from the title, but that doesn’t stop us from being intrigued every step of the way as events play out and lead to the unavoidable violent climax.

Surprisingly, things don’t stop there. The movie is about so much more than the murder of a notorious outlaw. It is a testimony to Andrew Dominik’s sharp writing and luminous direction — and to the impressive acting of this ensemble cast — that events don’t feel predictable.

The film, based on the novel of the same name by Ron Hansen, is heightened by a rare cinematic artistry that seamlessly melds a probing character essay with a lyrical Western epic.

Jesse James was a thief and murderer, many times over. But he fascinated people around the world in much the same way our tabloid culture romanticizes latter-day bad boys and girls. Those who think the fascination surrounding O.J. Simpson’s arrest and trial is a modern phenomenon will be disabused of that notion after seeing what happened after James was killed.

And who better to play someone who fascinates the masses while still leading the solid life of a family man than Brad Pitt? Pitt possesses the ideal charismatic and enigmatic qualities essential for the part of the iconic James.

But Casey Affleck as Robert Ford is the real revelation. Though he has made his presence felt playing a quirky character among the starry cast of the Ocean’s trilogy, he is of course the lesser-known Affleck. After this role, if there is any justice, that ought to change.

Affleck perfectly inhabits the role of the needy and ambitious Ford, a manipulator who idolizes James, yearns to be his sidekick and eventually manages to kill an outlaw who eluded capture in 10 states.

But what Ford didn’t bargain for is the aftermath of his act of violence. The film examines the concept of celebrity from all angles. Because James daringly targeted the wealthy owners of railroads and banks, he and his gang enthralled the public. And his death only intensified his fame.

As played by Pitt, James is not writ large. He is sharp and cunning but human. Audiences get a powerful sense of the man behind the mythologized persona in this riveting and ruminative film. Even with the resplendent Western iconography, the psychological underpinning of the key characters is the film’s most arresting aspect.

As Brad said, TAOJJBTCRF will polarize moviegoers.

can’t wait to watch it though. 2 hours and 40 minutes.

it is sooooo funny how haters get really excited when they see bad reviews for the film, actually i laughed out loud when i read one of the haters comments, so what if brad’s movie get a bad review? and i think it is one in ….. ( you finish, because i do not want to kill your happiness). in a movie industry you will always get mixed reviews, and you have to bear in mind that some of the people who reviews these movies may not like the actor, then his/her review may be biased,on the other hand i find it strange, how coem many reviewers gave this movie an A with the exception of that loser

Given the funereal vibe and dusky imagery of Andrew Dominik’s gloriously depressive Western, it would be easy to just slap a revisionist-oater label on the movie without questioning what, exactly, is being revised. The concept of a filthy, immoral frontier is as clichéd as bad guys in black hats, and whatever heroic qualities were once attributed to Jesse James (Pitt) have long since been corrected. Then it becomes clear what’s being given a fresh perspective here: the reputation of one of history’s most infamous scaredy-cats. Watching the legendary train robber’s uncontrollably violent tendencies, you don’t think of Robert Ford (Affleck) as a yellow-belly, but as a man forced to put down a rabid dog.

That unique take on the myth—as well as the film’s ironically cannibalistic notions of celebrity—is enough to make Assassination intriguing. Yet it’s Dominik’s uncompromising, uncommercial vision and the two leads that give the story such a wonderfully wounded grandeur. Despite one copycat shot from McCabe & Mrs. Miller, the director is more interested in evoking the best Westerns of the ’70s than in constructing a pastiche. Dominik’s no stranger to getting great performances out of actors (see 2000’s Chopper), yet what he brings out in both Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck is astonishing. Watching the former’s charismatic sociopath slowly develop a death wish and the latter turn Ford’s jellyfish-like fortitude into self-destructive resolve is enough to make you feel that other filmmakers haven’t taken advantage of their talent.
