Adrianne Curry: “Boycott Black History Month!”
The original America’s Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry is speaking out against Black History Month and cable network BET (Black Entertainment Television) on her MySpace. The 25-year-old reality TV star is married to Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch. Leave your thoughts on her rant in the comments section! Here’s Adrianne’s post:
“This is gonna be hard guys. I LOVE the comedians on BET. I also LOVE the fact that they play my favorite show of all time, In Living Color. However, I do not believe in seperating ANY RACE in America. WE ARE AMERICANS! How dare we have Black History Month! In my eyes, the Native Americans deserve it MUCH more, seeing how we destroyed their ENTIRE SOCIETY. There are hardly any of them left! They also have been proven to have the WORST living conditions on their reservations. I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. One where we learn about EVERY race, ALL OF OUR LEADERS, EVERYONE! I think by having a month dedicated to one race, and not one for any other, is RACIST. Every fund set up to only help people of one race is SICK and RACIST.

Adrianne Curry: “Boycott Black History Month!”
Yes, I get it. Black people were slaves here once. You know what? That does suck some major balls, however, it is time to move the f*** on. Do we hear the Jews crying that they were made slaves for thousands of years? Do we hear them whine that they should OWN the pyramids in Egypt because THEY broke their backs making them? Do we hear them b**** and moan about Hitler, etc? (my hubby is a Jew)Nope, we dont. It’s time for us to UNITE AS ONE. I do not think that singling out one race, giving one race opportunities to go to college (I know a TON of poor white.asian, indian, american indian, etc etc that could use that too!), giving one race the EXCUSE to blame things on others for being whatever nationality they are, is a good way at making sure we NEVER kill racism.
I am over this s***. WE ALL CAME FROM ONE BLACK WOMAN FROM AFRICA, THAT is our EVE! It has been proven by science, and I stand by it. If any other race had a chanel dedicated to just them, we would think it was racist. If any other race demanded a month be set aside for ONLY them, they would be considered racist. I am NOT living by this double standard any longer.
Think I am racist? I am not. I know what racism is. I dated a guy named “Justin” in Junior high. Nothing serious, but I really liked him. He was the blackest of black…BEAUTIFUL skin, kinda like Alex Wek’s. He was handsome, and athletic, etc. I was called a nigger lover. But you know what? I was called that by a whole 2 people out of a school with HUNDREDS of students. THAT is why I am NOT buying this racist s*** anymore. Let us teach or children that there is NO DIFFERENCE! We are all human. I hope one day aliens land and try to kill us. Maybe THEN we would finally realize that WE are ONE.
So, I will no longer tune into BET. This is going to suck, but I do NOT like the idea of having a chanel for only 1 race. In the year 2007 in a country that is supposed to be the most advanced and equal. This is unexceptable! I will also no longer acknowledge Black History Month. Instead, I will see it the way that Morgan Freeman does (I have the quote at the bottom of my last blog on Obama/jesseJackson, and OJ). AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH! I will read/watch/and learn about ALL the people who made a difference in this country.
I am asking you ALL to join me. Black, White, Indian, Asian, Russian, Australian, etc etc…..lets be AMERICANS together! What happened to the African American community was AMERICAN HISTORY, not BLACK HISTORY. If you want to celebrate in a way that excludes others and singles one race out, count me the f*** out! I am soooo proud to be an American. I am SO proud that I have friends of every race, and none of us see each other as anything but what we are..people. Lets change Black History Month to 2 months of AMERICAN HISTORY. We will still learn about all the black leaders and people who made a difference….just not with the racist name of “Black History Month”. It has to start somewhere. I am going to do my part in making sure we are all treated EQUAL in a country that CLAIMS we are. NO MORE SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ANYONE WITH ANYTHING!
It will never happen. At least, that is what many of you will say…FINE! My number one priority here is being able to die and know that I stood up for what I believed in, and that I did not add to the SEPERATION OF AMERICANS!! I love my country, I love the people in it. I love our history, good and bad. We should LEARN from it,not dwell in it and not move forward. That’s why I am done with this s***. You are all my brothers and sisters…..even if I think you suck ; ) As Bono said, “One life, with each other..sisters…brothers!”
Note:: Opinions are like a**holes, everyone…we all have em! Please, respect each other here…listen…even if you dont agree. No name calling. I have a confession…The topic here (black history month/BET) is not what my message was about… I just knew it would get a lot more attention if I used it as an example. My message is to BECOME ONE. AMERICANS, celebrate things as such, not label them this or that…Black History month should NOT go away…but it should have it’s name changed to AMERICAN HISTORY..and be made into a few months…to teach us EVERYTHING about our history…not just focus on one race. Yep, I have a hippie view of the world, and I dont care!! I am not saying to stop celebrating and remebering our history, good or bad. I AGREE that we need to teach MORE on american history concerning what we teach during “black History month”. I am not writing this to take away anything from anyone…we need MORE OF IT, but WITHOUT the race title!!!!

First off Miss Ellen,
I gather you read a book or two on Slavery so now you are an expert. Or you are writing a book of your own on the subject.
First, the 400 years reference is from (Columbus) 1492 to 1865 (end of the Civil War). Now I know the first documented slave in Jamestown Virginia was in 1619 that does not mean that they didn’t first come with Columbus.
As you said, Slavery is not only a Black experienced but a human experience. We never said it was only a Black experienced. Granted throughout ‘human” history there have been slaves of other races as well but we are not talking about all of human history today but the Black experience in America. So we will leave it there FOR NOW.
I will agree with you on one thing that Slavery is an economic institution. Slavery was probably started because people saw an opportunity to put their prisoners of war to work for them. People captured in war is a source for slave labors. That is why ‘Africans” sold their own. There was need for farming/agriculture necessity.
Frederick Douglas was a liar??? WOW that is a first. What the hell do you know about Frederick Douglas anyway? Let me get this straight, we are now working on the means to discredit a “noted” dead black figure. How noble and fair of you? The man is not even alive to defend himself.
Let us get one thing straight, the black slave experience in America is very different from an “indentured white servant.” Black American experience in America as slaves is unique in even “human history.” Slavery/racial inferiorities were reserved only for the black experience. There are significant differences among these experiences in that it has to do with economics, the eradication of our culture heritage and racism.
Blacks have contributed to the economic growth of this country with out anything to show for it. The majority “slaves” (indentured servants) who help in the economic growth in this country in America were blacks not whites.
Culture eradication speaks for itself. Look how well we fit in “American” society. As you said we only make up 12% of the population. We still we can’t get any respect.
Finally racism, Jena 6 anyone and your comments in themselves reek of racism. The little miss is going to teach us blacks about our history and experience. Please…I am all for learning from others. But your posting is about putting us down and showing your superiority it is not about teaching.
Make sure you put in your book or paper or whatever you are researching how slavery throughout history has been racially defined. The black man fate is an unresolved mystery. Your ancestors might have flee or broken the bonds of slavery but they were never asked to escape from their own skin or race.
this is the dumbest **** ever..your all racist how about that..
if you have posted something about what someone else saidon here then you yourself are ignorant, get over yourself..sooo fake
bet is not for entertainment of blacks.. its black entertaining others (any race)and WHITE PEOPLE OWN BET..ask your own people to stop since you hate it so much…bc even SOME BLACKS HAVE BEEN BOYCOTTING BET BC IT SHOWS BLACKS IN A WRONG REPRESENTATION WHY?? bc its owned by whites..but back to BHM ADRIANNE LITTLE COMMENTS ARE NOT GOING TO DO NOTHING TO IT BC F IT WAS A PROB IT WOULDN’T BE COMMERCIALIZED BY EVERY1 LIKE THEY WHY IT IS…
#41, you’re being ridiculous.
“Secondly, the reason we have a black history month is because our history has not been documented in any of America’s history books. Our achievements and contributions to American and the world were deliberately excluded from the history of this country. As a result Black History Month was created to teach (young) black people about our race and our contributions to society.”
That is a complete and utter lie. Everything about that statement is wrong. The achievements and contributions of the black race has been WELL documented in today’s American history books, so saying the history has not been documented in ANY of America’s history books is plain false. They most certainly were not deliberately excluded from the history of this country. Obviously if a Black history month was created, that’s an attempt in itself to spread knowledge of the history of black people. My school was predominately white and we learned all about the contributions of Rosa Parks, MLK, Frederick Douglass, George Washington Carver, Jackie Robinson, Harriet Tubman, BB King, and MANY others. When you say that Black History Month was created to teach young black people about your race and your contributuions to your society, that’s also wrong. Black History Month was created to enlighten EVERYONE about black history, not just young black people. In trying to sound intelligent and sophisticated, you’ve made yourself come off to be a complete idiot.
“Finally, a great philosohper once said something to this affect a little knowledge is worst than no knowledge. Be informed before you speak on topics of historical relevance because to do so is no simple task.”
If I were you, I’d take my own advice.
To everyone else: the debate on Black History month has been going on for years. The creator of “Negro History Month”, Carter Woodson, hoped it would be eliminated once African-American history was fully integrated with American history. Stop using Adrienne Curry as a scapegoat, she’s arguing a point that many have argued before her.
*THE WHY IS IT
@ 15 asian girl
do your research beFORE posting stupid sh!t that you no nothing about b!tch! BET WAS CREATED BECAUSE MTV DIDN’T WANT ANY BLACK PEOPLE ON THEIR NETWORK. IT WAS ONLY WHEN MICHAEL JACKSON CAME OUT, THEY STARTRD TO CHANGE AND THAT WAS ONLY BECAUSE THEY KNEW THEY COULD CAN MAKE MONEY OFF OUR black ASSes!!!
ARIANNA CURRY or what that crackhead wh@re’s name is NEED TO SIT HER CLOWN ASS THEY *** DOWN BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY DON’T KNOW WHAT THE *** SHE IS TALKING ABOUT, SHE SOUND SUPER FUKING IGNORant. black people are not the only ones with their own network..asians, latinos, italians and other ethnic groups have their own networks and indivial months as well, i don’t hear her white ass complaining about those!

Why it took MTV so long to play black music videos
Jet, Oct 9, 2006
Music TeleVision (MTV) hit America’s airwaves with a sonic boom 25 years ago. The pioneering cable television network also received a deafening tongue-lashing from a super ticked Rick James, who publicly declared it “blatant racism” when MTV refused to air his Super Freak video and other videos by Black artists because they didn’t fit the network’s rock-dominated format.
“A lot of Black asses are going to come together and explode on MTV,” James said in 1983. “There are no Blacks on MTV’s program list except for Tina Turner, and she stopped being Black about 10 years ago. MTV puts on little White punk groups who don’t even have record deals. Blacks are missing exposure and sales.”
Modeled after Top 40 radio, MTV’s video playlist had a meager few Black videos in 1981. Most of its early videos came from England where music videos were already common.
Eddy Grant, Musical Youth and Joan Armatrading were some of the Black artists from that country whose videos were shown during MTV’s inception. Tina Turner, Jon Butcher Axis, The Bus Boys and Donna Summer were some of the other Black artists whose videos were shown because their music fit the format.
James, whose music helped define “punk funk,” fought for two years to have more Black videos shown on MTV. ABC’s “Nightline” featured his much publicized crusade. But the outspoken performer, who died in 2004, became agitated because it seemed as though he was on the battlefield’s front line alone.
Whatever,
I was commenting to Mimi who is Mexican which is why I specified Mexicans as a group. Please improve your reading comprehension skills to better follow a line of conversation. Thanks.
Oh please, if people actually believed in this country that Hispanics were so wonderful and hard working, they wouldn’t be working so hard to keep them out of the country. Talk to anyone in California or the other parts of the West, hell, all over these days, people are inacting laws all over to prevent the use of Spanish and deny other priveleges to Latinos. Stop playing blind to prove a point.
I’m not saying I agree with these actions either, because I don’t. I speak Spanish, I work with the Hispanic community, but I’m not naive to the racisms and will speak truth when necessary. I find it funny that Hispanics on this board are trying to pretend there isn’t growing racism against them in this country. Please spare me.
I totally agree. I dont see any reason that there should be a seperate month for African Americans. I think that it would be great to have a month that is for ALL Americans! I mean there is already MLK Day and I know that he was a GREAT man but, he wasn’t even a President and he gets his own day. Ab Lincoln was the one that gave slaves there freedom but, we dont have a special day for him, we have the have a day that is for ALL Presidents there is not one that gets his own day. That is just my 2 cents.

Why do black people post in all caps?
We know you like to cry. It’s implied.
Grow up. Your “month is a joke. This chick said out loud what everyone else says behind your backs already. While laughing.
@ ELLEN WHY DO WE OBSERVE JEWISH HOLIDAYS AND HAVE PARADES FOR OTHER CULTURES?? SINCE WE ARE ALL AMERICANS..
THIS ARGUMENT SHOULD BE ONLY TOWARDS BHM BUT OF ALL CULTURES & RACES CELEBRATING THEMSELVES IN AMERICA..THIS IS WHY ADRIANNE IS A RACIST!!
@ 257 THAT PREJUDICE RIGHT THERE..WHY DO BLACK PEOPLE LIKE TO WRITE IN CAPS?? HOW DO YOU SAY THAT DO YOU KNOW ALL BLACK PEOPLE??
MAGNUS=MAGNUM C*NDOM LICKER
YOU ARE A JOKE! EVERYBODY WRITES IN CAPS, INBRED!
WE KNOW THAT U WHITE B*TCHES LIKE TO WHINE ALL THE TIME, NOT HALF OF THE TIME, BUT ALL THE TIME! IF THE SLIGHTEST PROBLEMS OCCUR WHITE PEOPLE ARE LIKELY TO KILL THEIR WHOLE FAMILY! SOME WHITE ALIEMS CAN’T COPE WITH LIFE, THAT IS WHY YOU KILL YOUR MOTHERS, AND RAPE YOUR DAUGHTERS! ACTUALLY CAN YOU COME UP WITH A RECIPE FOR WHITEITTIOUS=WE DOG SMELLING DEVILS? I SMELL YOU FROM MISSOURI!
Not to mension the fact that “blacks” can have a college that is ALL black, they can have a pagent that is ALL black, and they can have radio stations and tv shows but, if us “whites” decide that we want to have an all white beauty pagent then there is a BIG problem. If we wanted to have anything that was just for whites there is a prolem. I think that MOST, not ALL blacks are rascist againest the whites and other races because they feel that the world owes them something bc they had family memebers that might have been slaves, GET OVER IT that was NOT us that was many many moons ago! I for one and tired of paying for what our generation did not have anything to do with. I have alot of black friends so I dont want people to say that I am againest the black community because I am NOT but, I do think that sometimes the black people in American think that they are owed soemthing. YOU ARE NOT!
@ 256 ABE LINCOLN DOES HAVE A DAY BUT ITS NOT OBSERVED (BACK IN MY SCHOOL DAYS IT WAS) ASK OUR MAJORITY OF THE GOVERNMENT IS WHITE WHY ABE LINCOLN DAY IS NOT OBSERVED ANYMORE…
The sad truth is that she is not alone with her thoughts and feelings. The awful truth is that while segregation may no longer be legal, it is still a very prevalent issue. We can hide, we can ignore it, but the statistics in the job market and in education do not lie.
One channel on a system of hundreds in no way signifies the end of an issue that let me think back, was still an issue in the 50’s. While we may be nearly 30 to 40 years out from that era, we as African Americans can not forget nor do we want to forget.
As for the comments concerning other races and religions not being heard: This is your time to speak up! Make your voices heard. If you feel that you are among the forgotten, start writing letters to your politicians, start electing officials that want to address your issues.
Ignorance is no longer bliss: Curry…. What can anyone say about someone who is trying to make a name for herself. Get over herself, educate herself and those around her on facts, not just pure feeling and emotion.
#246
I was talking about our history of being discriminated against in the same way as African Americans. Which as I pointed out the history books and Americans never talk about. Why because we have moved on and decided to make the most of the opportunities given to us now. Which also came at the expense of our ancestors.
As for Hispanics and Latinos living and working is this country and trying to get legal status that is a totally different issue and one I was not talking about. It is an issue going on in the present and I am talking about the past.
So I feel it has no relevance to my argument about the HISTORY of Mexicans who are now Americans in this country who have had their history buried in a country they helped build.
Do you get it !!! I am talking about History not whether people should become legal or not Today. Two very separate issues.
In my post (#253) I meant number 46 not 41. Sorry!
Actually I agree, why should a certain month only be dedicated to certain race. True, african americans were treated harshly and inhumanely during the early days in america, but isn’t it also true that other race, who were also minorities were also treated the same way. The chinese, for example, were also enslaved during the early years of development in america. They were enslave to make railroads and more. The native americans, who were the first inhabitants of the land in which we live in, even up to this day, are faced with harsh treatment. The few land they originally inhabited were confiscated by the government. They continue to fight against the oppression of our government and society even up to this day. The amount of sufffering due to oppression should not be the basis of importance, because all minorities, whether they are african americans, chinese, mexicans, cubans, native americans were faced with the same harsh treatment even up to this day when the statement “all men are equal” is written under our constitution.
I am going to try not to gt to upset or get on a soap box. But I will say this EVERY other month is white history month. ALL we do in History class is discuss “white” history. We dont even do “black” history in February anymore. And organization that benifit a certain race is not racist its, unfortunately, necessary.
@ 261 black colleges are not only black it has a hand pick of other races just like ivy league schools not only white it has its hand pick..

——————————
Well, the problem is that “African_American History” has NOT been fully integrated into “American History.” Get it, hence the need for a “black history month.” A few notable mentions in today’s history books does not qualify as a fully integrated African American experience for all.
Preach Aeon!
lovely, you make valid point.
1.) Historically black colleges exist from when African-Americans were denied education in white institutions.
2.) MTV should have been called ‘WET’ when they refused to play videos by black artists.
3.) Black people complain and play the race card because racism still exists! Until you’re called a ****** or experience social injustice because of your race, you will never understand what it is like to black or any other minority for that matter.
4.) Slavery still affects people. All races have experienced racism, but there are studies that prove African-Americans are still the most affected by racism and slavery in America.
The reason there is a Black History Month is that ‘history’ was recorded only by white people until the 60s!! Prior to that, many accomplishments of black people went undocumented. I do agree with her comment that scientifically speaking we all came from one black woman from Africa.
