Adrianne Curry: “Boycott Black History Month!”

The original America’s Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry is speaking out against Black History Month and cable network BET (Black Entertainment Television) on her MySpace. The 25-year-old reality TV star is married to Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch. Leave your thoughts on her rant in the comments section! Here’s Adrianne’s post:

“This is gonna be hard guys. I LOVE the comedians on BET. I also LOVE the fact that they play my favorite show of all time, In Living Color. However, I do not believe in seperating ANY RACE in America. WE ARE AMERICANS! How dare we have Black History Month! In my eyes, the Native Americans deserve it MUCH more, seeing how we destroyed their ENTIRE SOCIETY. There are hardly any of them left! They also have been proven to have the WORST living conditions on their reservations. I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. One where we learn about EVERY race, ALL OF OUR LEADERS, EVERYONE! I think by having a month dedicated to one race, and not one for any other, is RACIST. Every fund set up to only help people of one race is SICK and RACIST.

Adrianne Curry: “Boycott Black History Month!”

Yes, I get it. Black people were slaves here once. You know what? That does suck some major balls, however, it is time to move the f*** on. Do we hear the Jews crying that they were made slaves for thousands of years? Do we hear them whine that they should OWN the pyramids in Egypt because THEY broke their backs making them? Do we hear them b**** and moan about Hitler, etc? (my hubby is a Jew)Nope, we dont. It’s time for us to UNITE AS ONE. I do not think that singling out one race, giving one race opportunities to go to college (I know a TON of poor white.asian, indian, american indian, etc etc that could use that too!), giving one race the EXCUSE to blame things on others for being whatever nationality they are, is a good way at making sure we NEVER kill racism.

I am over this s***. WE ALL CAME FROM ONE BLACK WOMAN FROM AFRICA, THAT is our EVE! It has been proven by science, and I stand by it. If any other race had a chanel dedicated to just them, we would think it was racist. If any other race demanded a month be set aside for ONLY them, they would be considered racist. I am NOT living by this double standard any longer.

Think I am racist? I am not. I know what racism is. I dated a guy named “Justin” in Junior high. Nothing serious, but I really liked him. He was the blackest of black…BEAUTIFUL skin, kinda like Alex Wek’s. He was handsome, and athletic, etc. I was called a nigger lover. But you know what? I was called that by a whole 2 people out of a school with HUNDREDS of students. THAT is why I am NOT buying this racist s*** anymore. Let us teach or children that there is NO DIFFERENCE! We are all human. I hope one day aliens land and try to kill us. Maybe THEN we would finally realize that WE are ONE.

So, I will no longer tune into BET. This is going to suck, but I do NOT like the idea of having a chanel for only 1 race. In the year 2007 in a country that is supposed to be the most advanced and equal. This is unexceptable! I will also no longer acknowledge Black History Month. Instead, I will see it the way that Morgan Freeman does (I have the quote at the bottom of my last blog on Obama/jesseJackson, and OJ). AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH! I will read/watch/and learn about ALL the people who made a difference in this country.

I am asking you ALL to join me. Black, White, Indian, Asian, Russian, Australian, etc etc…..lets be AMERICANS together! What happened to the African American community was AMERICAN HISTORY, not BLACK HISTORY. If you want to celebrate in a way that excludes others and singles one race out, count me the f*** out! I am soooo proud to be an American. I am SO proud that I have friends of every race, and none of us see each other as anything but what we are..people. Lets change Black History Month to 2 months of AMERICAN HISTORY. We will still learn about all the black leaders and people who made a difference….just not with the racist name of “Black History Month”. It has to start somewhere. I am going to do my part in making sure we are all treated EQUAL in a country that CLAIMS we are. NO MORE SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ANYONE WITH ANYTHING!

It will never happen. At least, that is what many of you will say…FINE! My number one priority here is being able to die and know that I stood up for what I believed in, and that I did not add to the SEPERATION OF AMERICANS!! I love my country, I love the people in it. I love our history, good and bad. We should LEARN from it,not dwell in it and not move forward. That’s why I am done with this s***. You are all my brothers and sisters…..even if I think you suck ; ) As Bono said, “One life, with each other..sisters…brothers!”

Note:: Opinions are like a**holes, everyone…we all have em! Please, respect each other here…listen…even if you dont agree. No name calling. I have a confession…The topic here (black history month/BET) is not what my message was about… I just knew it would get a lot more attention if I used it as an example. My message is to BECOME ONE. AMERICANS, celebrate things as such, not label them this or that…Black History month should NOT go away…but it should have it’s name changed to AMERICAN HISTORY..and be made into a few months…to teach us EVERYTHING about our history…not just focus on one race. Yep, I have a hippie view of the world, and I dont care!! I am not saying to stop celebrating and remebering our history, good or bad. I AGREE that we need to teach MORE on american history concerning what we teach during “black History month”. I am not writing this to take away anything from anyone…we need MORE OF IT, but WITHOUT the race title!!!!

What other race in America has to learn/read a Constitution that for a period of time considered blacks 3/5ths of a whole person (until it was amended)not even Native Americans have to learn that (they were not taxed).

We are all racist in some way ,shape,or form.Racism is alive and kicking because we allow it to be. We are racist against not only color. We are racist against how fat or skinny some one is , if they are covered in tattoos. How well educated they are . What side of the street they live on. the list goes on and will continue to grow it is a sad truth but it has become part of human nurture. I say nurture because nature does not teach us to hate and has been proven scientifically. People teach people to hate.

@ 296 YOU RETARDED TOOO!!! LOOK @ MY COMMENTS IM MIXED BUT IM NOT STUPID..I CELEBRATE BHM AND DISAGREE WITH ADRIANNE’S COMMENTS

response to Miss Ellen @ 09/22/2007 at 6:12 pm

Miss Ellen @ 214

My comments probably make me sound like a militant, but I’m not and I know that not all white people are the same. Things are getting a little better over time too. I don’t want pity. I just want the past to stay in the past. I don’t want special treatment either. But I don’t want to feel like people are looking down on me because my ancestors were slaves. And yes I’m black but if you see me and can tell that I’m well put-together and intelligent and decent, stop making me feel like I’m from the inner city when I never grew up there. People who do that hold racist beliefs. They say they don’t like certain “kinds” of blacks, but you soon find out that they say that to hide their racism. They really don’t like the black race. They associate us with apes and monkeys. They don’t like our looks, our hair, our bodies — its a generalized feeling of hatred. Whenever I worked with a lot of different races together, the atmostphere in the company was better. Whenever there was too much of one particular race, they form “clicks” and support their race and leave others out. Mexicans and asians do that too. I hate it. I’ve worked in well-to-do neighborhoods where I was one of maybe 2 blacks in the whole company of whites. I thought those well-to-do educated white people would be nice, but my God, the racism is there in the way they look at you. I could never feel relaxed because I was a real minority there and people’s eyes were always watching me. Once I held doors open for 2 white old men coming behind me and they didn’t grab the door and said nothing when they entered. They ignored me like it was my “duty” to hold the door open for them to enter. It’s little “jabs” like that and it happens to blacks on a regular basis if they are in areas with a lot of whites. These incidents happen to us all the time. If it happens enough, you get worn down and you don’t want to live around too many whites, but you’re afraid of the minority neighborhoods because the crime is usually higher. What can you do? Where do you belong in society? Black people who have it “going on” are usually not rude to whites. If you are in areas with lots of blacks who are poor or struggling, that’s what you get- rudeness. They don’t have a lot of money and have kids to feed at home. They’re not fulfilled and happy. They’re stuck. They’re not nice unless they are with another person who’s on their level. Many are anti-white-people and racist. They are not going to like you–an educated, successful, happy white woman.

They don’t like me either, though. So, I don’t think it’s just your race. To them, your race represents your situation- which is better than theirs. I know this. I’m in a state right now that I’m moving from. More blacks than I have ever seen. Been here a short time. The black women here have been mostly rude to me because I’m not like them. They can see I’m not from here. I don’t talk like them. I don’t dress like them or carry myself like them. They look at me with mean faces when I shop. I try to go out of my way to be friendly by showing an interest in them and it works sometimes. I want to live around a variety of people who are positive and decent, but I don’t want to be the only black person in my community.

I know that it takes hard work to get anything. I know whites work hard for the good things they have. But it’s still not an even playing field because it is easier overall for a white person to succeed unless they come from a really bad background of abuse, drugs and things of that nature. The problems lie in the MINDSET and that is where whites generally have the advantage. Just waking up and knowing that if you work hard, you can make it means a lot. Many blacks DO NOT believe that. Some smart black parents are starting to tell their kids this as they see more and more blacks making it in life, but most blacks I know never got messages like that from their parents because blacks come from a place of limits. When you have limits, you just don’t dream very big. You lower the bar. You lower your expectations. It’ll make you encourage your child to be a teacher instead of a doctor. Blacks always have to look over their shoulder. Whites do not. White people dream of doing things that some of us would love to attempt, but it’s always seen as groundbreaking. When we step outside of our place, it’s usually small. Usually one or two people will do it, like Tiger Woods. Why do you not see blacks participating in many sports? Because they’re told it’s for whites. They won’t allow their mind to dream about it. Instead, they’ll say black people don’t want to do those crazy things. It’s not true. Doing more for black people does not help them if they have the wrong mentality. You could give them a million dollars and if they have low expectations and very low self esteem and believe they can’t make it, they won’t. They’ll squander the money and be left broke.

But some black people just need a ray of hope. If they see another black person come from behind and succeed, it gives them a push. So, I can’t say do away with all the programs to help them out. Some black people are finally able to change their lives because they made a change from within and just needed a break and someone cared enough to give it to them. I do think that the people who provide programs and aid to minorities should be very selective about who they choose to receive such help.

“we have moved on and decided to make the most of the opportunities given to us now. ”
————————————————————————–
You’re still kidding yourself huh?

Let’s first talk history then.

There is a Hispanic Heritage Month. It is the month of September. Hispanic groups fought for the inclusion of their history and got Congress to recognize this in 1988. Google it.

There’s also Chicano studies, Spanish language channels, etc. Is this what you mean by “we have moved on and decided to make the most of the opportunities given to us”? Because if so then looks like Black people are doing just like you. You know, moving on by creating a month dedicated to their contributions, forming University programs geared towards their specific struggle or identity in this country, etc. Blacks and Hispanic are acting one in the same.

And because you are too daft to pick up th correlation between fighting for legal status and fighting for recognition of your contribution to the country, let me explain it to you. Each of these acts are umbrella’d under civil rights. When Hispanic groups organized rallys to demand legal status in the U.S. they did so based on their belief that Hispanics have historically contributed to the building and success of America just as much as anyone else and thus have equal right to citizenship.

It’s a shame you are Mexican and don’t seem to know much about your own history. It seems as if you are too busy trying to distance yourself from it IMO.

What an idiot…..she IS racist, just because she dated a black doesnt mean she isnt, slave masters had sex with their slaves…does that mean they’re not rasict?

and if Bet is rasict, so is Telemundo, and Lifetime is sexist and LOGO is anti-straight people.

there is a need for these channels that cater to a certain audience because they are not equally represented on mainstream television

and yes slavery was a long tie ago but rasicm against blacks is still rampant today…just look at Jena 6

hmmmm valid comment, some interesting, ….anyway WE ARE ALL RACIST TO A CERTAIN EXTENT…some of us areaware of this and try to learn and improve on out attitudes, others are jsut too busy telling thier fello wman how racist they are , they forgot to pick out the pebbles from their own eyes..aahah

Ones race is often determined by thier physical features , ie color of skin , is it not. Maybe discimination is a better word to use but the two go hand in hand .Discrimination and racism

Mimi,

I’m going to stop arguing with you because I’ve read your comments and now realize you just aren’t very bright.

@239 SO YOU HAVE NEVER FOR ONCE THOUGHT THAT IM BETTER THAN AFRICAN AMERICANS OR ANY OTHER RACE??
____________________________________________________________

Nope. I’ve never thought to myself “Oh, I’m better because I’m white.” I wasn’t born in the 1800s. Being better than someone has nothing to do with what skin color you have. For example, I’m better than YOU, because you’re racist and I’m not.

And Freedom, your post that responded to mine showed who the uneducated one is. You DID say ALL white people. Go back and read your own post, girlfriend.

WHITE PEOPLE ARE KILLERS TO!

THIS WHITE WOMAN KILLED HER PATRENTS, NOW WE DO NOT HEAR THAT..MANY BLACK PEOPLE KILLING THEIR PARENTS!

CLICK ON THE NAME FOR INFO!

PARENTS!

WHITE

IF I SAID THAT, I MEANT SOME WHITE PEOPLE!

WELL AS I MIXED GIRL I KEEP IN THE BACK OF MY MIND THAT ALL WHITES ARE RACIST BC IT WONT CEASE TO AMAZE ME…IM MIXED AND I GET THE HEAT OF RACISM FROM WHITES EVEN BEING HALF WHITE

I mean look at this site. The only black people ever discussed on here are Rihanna, Beyonce, and Halle Berry.. who surpisingly, all have white features!

Should blogs like Bossip, Concreteloop and YBF be shut down just because they cater to blacks? No. Just because this isn’t called a “White Blog” does not mean it isn’t catered to white celebrities and white readers.

i love concreteloop!!

jared, y did u post this on ur website?? u made ppl mad and now they keep on yelling at each other. and adrianne curry, u need serious help. stop hating on black ppl because they have a month tht celebrates their history..

You all can hate me for it, I don’t care, but I agree with what she said.

@ 315 WTF ITS HIS RIGHT TO POST THIS JUST LIKE IT WAS YOUR RIGHT TO EXPRESS YOUR OPINION..
DONT BLAME HIM BC YOU WERE ILLITERATE AND DIDNT READ MY COMMENTS DISAGREEING WITH ADRIANNE

response to Ellen @ 09/22/2007 at 6:34 pm

Ellen, let’s dispense with the “Miss” because frankly, my dear, none of us is your slave.

there is nothing wrong with native americans having their own month, there is nothing wrong with any race their own month but why does that mean black people cant!?!?!?

seriouly I just think shes trying to get some attention.

Call me K @ 09/22/2007 at 6:37 pm

Adrianne made some good points. Although, I do not agree that boycotting BET or Black History Month is necessary, this whole race thing is a big problem that is growing bigger, and someone has to speak up about it. And if it happens to be a model, speaking up about it on MySpace, then, at least its a start, and kudos to her for having the balls to talk about the problem.
I agree that slavery in America was horiffic and no American of any skin color should feel good about that part of American history. Should we have a special day set aside to honor those who suffered at the hands of such ignorance? Absolutely. It should be a legal, legitimate holiday, in which, schools are closed, banks are closed and services are held in honor of the day.
And as far as Black History Month goes, I’m still fine with that. There’s nothing wrong with honoring history and being proud of one’s heritage. (Even though it is “the only month with 28 days”… That is the kind of ignorant, victim talk that turns people off and actually makes people sound ignorant! Please stop teaching your children to think like that. It won’t help them.)
Anyway…
I have already said I am a white woman. And, I have always been one to get behind anyone who is discriminated against and do what I can to help. As the mother of a teenage son, I am appalled by the injustice of Genarlow Wilson, the kid in Atlanta who had his future pulled from beneath him for engaging in something that many teens do. Because he was black and the victim was white? Most certainly.
And the Jena 6 thing is appalling! On all sides! The white people are ignorant and should be punished. But, violence isn’t the answer on the side of the black people either. I have heard conflicting reports as to how badly hurt the white kid was, but, my understanding is he was able to go out that very evening. If so, then , heck yes, the black kids were punished way beyond what should be reasonable. Because they were black? Yes!
And, as far as the demonstators that are there right now, it sounds pretty peaceful to me. Hopefully a good point is made.
Funny, but I get a lot of my information from a “black” radio show. I love r and b music and my station happens to have a talk show on in the afternoons. Many times they will speak of a subject that is universal in skin color, relationships, money issues, etc… and I enjoy the show. But, here is where I have a problem. It isn’t a universal show, unbiased in skin color, as listeners are constantly told to support one another in black owned businesses. I don’t support a particular business because of the skin color of the business owner. “Shop at such and such and support the white man.” How stupid does that sound.
Personally, I don’t see how we are ever going to get across this great divide if people don’t stop all of that nonsense. But hey… maybe a large part of the black population doesn’t really want to get across the great divide. Isn’t that possible? Is it really equality you want? Because if I were fighting for equality, I know I wouldn’t be telling people of my skin color to “support people with our same skin color”
Speaking of skin color…
When my son was still young, I married a black man. And I am sincere when I say my son didn’t realize the man was of a different race and that he was “different” than us. He just thought we had “beige” skin and my husband had “brown” skin. (And incidentally, race had nothing to do with me leaving that man)
My son didn’t see people as different races. He saw them as skin tones. He saw “peach” people, “beige” people. “brown” people, etc… He started seeing “race” as he got out into the world and heard all of the ignorant ideas adults threw around. The things we are teaching our children NOW, are the way of the future. Teach your children that all races need to be seperate and that’s what they will believe.
I, too, am tired of seeing the race card thrown around. I’m also tired of the injustice still being served on black people.
I agree that there is still much prejudice around. But, the way much of the black population is going about things is not the correct answer. And, unfortunately, many are teaching it to their kids.
Why not, instead, teach your kids to stand up for anyone, of any skin color, who has been dealt an injustice? Teach them that the history of America is not a pretty one and many people suffered as a result, but, pretty or not, the past is the past and we need to live in the here and now.
No decent white, peach, or beige American should be happy about the history of the African American. But, it is time to move forward and accept things. You can’t expect to be accepted until you accept yourself. You can’t expect to be included if you continue excluding yourself.
We all have the ability to create the future of America any way we choose. Seperate or together? It starts now.

Reading some of these comments has confirmed that race is STILL a very touchy subject and racism is EVERY WHERE. Sad but very true.

God Bless

What surprises me the most of all is the way she is pulling in all of the other races. For example 91 among many others saying they are Asian and wondering why we are so vocal about all if the injustice and discrmination we still face as a people.

The problem with all of the comments from Asians etc is they have shown that all along they have wanted to be caucasion. The issue here is doing what racist people from Hitler on down have done over generations,it is meant to separate the races theirfor relegate us powerless and lead us to fight agains each other. In other words to devide and conquer. This is the strategie that has been used for centuries. Just remember all you “Asians” who are defending this racist ignorant person that we are living in a time now in America when every one from your continent is being scrutinized and harassed for your religious beliefs.

If you are not able to read the writing on the wall we have had to fight because most of the other races did not find it necessary to side with us and for the most part they choose to separate and side with the minority supremist race. Remember during the reign of Hitler and all of the other white supremist they began with one race (the most obvious) and worked their way done believe me it will eventually be your turn to stop pretending you are white whether or not you relaize it.

Mixed Race @ 09/22/2007 at 6:44 pm

Do we get “Mixed Race Day”. What if my mum is Black Asian and my dad is Hispanic White?????????
