Adrianne Curry: “Boycott Black History Month!”

The original America’s Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry is speaking out against Black History Month and cable network BET (Black Entertainment Television) on her MySpace. The 25-year-old reality TV star is married to Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch. Leave your thoughts on her rant in the comments section! Here’s Adrianne’s post:

“This is gonna be hard guys. I LOVE the comedians on BET. I also LOVE the fact that they play my favorite show of all time, In Living Color. However, I do not believe in seperating ANY RACE in America. WE ARE AMERICANS! How dare we have Black History Month! In my eyes, the Native Americans deserve it MUCH more, seeing how we destroyed their ENTIRE SOCIETY. There are hardly any of them left! They also have been proven to have the WORST living conditions on their reservations. I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. One where we learn about EVERY race, ALL OF OUR LEADERS, EVERYONE! I think by having a month dedicated to one race, and not one for any other, is RACIST. Every fund set up to only help people of one race is SICK and RACIST.

Adrianne Curry: “Boycott Black History Month!”

Yes, I get it. Black people were slaves here once. You know what? That does suck some major balls, however, it is time to move the f*** on. Do we hear the Jews crying that they were made slaves for thousands of years? Do we hear them whine that they should OWN the pyramids in Egypt because THEY broke their backs making them? Do we hear them b**** and moan about Hitler, etc? (my hubby is a Jew)Nope, we dont. It’s time for us to UNITE AS ONE. I do not think that singling out one race, giving one race opportunities to go to college (I know a TON of poor white.asian, indian, american indian, etc etc that could use that too!), giving one race the EXCUSE to blame things on others for being whatever nationality they are, is a good way at making sure we NEVER kill racism.

I am over this s***. WE ALL CAME FROM ONE BLACK WOMAN FROM AFRICA, THAT is our EVE! It has been proven by science, and I stand by it. If any other race had a chanel dedicated to just them, we would think it was racist. If any other race demanded a month be set aside for ONLY them, they would be considered racist. I am NOT living by this double standard any longer.

Think I am racist? I am not. I know what racism is. I dated a guy named “Justin” in Junior high. Nothing serious, but I really liked him. He was the blackest of black…BEAUTIFUL skin, kinda like Alex Wek’s. He was handsome, and athletic, etc. I was called a nigger lover. But you know what? I was called that by a whole 2 people out of a school with HUNDREDS of students. THAT is why I am NOT buying this racist s*** anymore. Let us teach or children that there is NO DIFFERENCE! We are all human. I hope one day aliens land and try to kill us. Maybe THEN we would finally realize that WE are ONE.

So, I will no longer tune into BET. This is going to suck, but I do NOT like the idea of having a chanel for only 1 race. In the year 2007 in a country that is supposed to be the most advanced and equal. This is unexceptable! I will also no longer acknowledge Black History Month. Instead, I will see it the way that Morgan Freeman does (I have the quote at the bottom of my last blog on Obama/jesseJackson, and OJ). AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH! I will read/watch/and learn about ALL the people who made a difference in this country.

I am asking you ALL to join me. Black, White, Indian, Asian, Russian, Australian, etc etc…..lets be AMERICANS together! What happened to the African American community was AMERICAN HISTORY, not BLACK HISTORY. If you want to celebrate in a way that excludes others and singles one race out, count me the f*** out! I am soooo proud to be an American. I am SO proud that I have friends of every race, and none of us see each other as anything but what we are..people. Lets change Black History Month to 2 months of AMERICAN HISTORY. We will still learn about all the black leaders and people who made a difference….just not with the racist name of “Black History Month”. It has to start somewhere. I am going to do my part in making sure we are all treated EQUAL in a country that CLAIMS we are. NO MORE SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ANYONE WITH ANYTHING!

It will never happen. At least, that is what many of you will say…FINE! My number one priority here is being able to die and know that I stood up for what I believed in, and that I did not add to the SEPERATION OF AMERICANS!! I love my country, I love the people in it. I love our history, good and bad. We should LEARN from it,not dwell in it and not move forward. That’s why I am done with this s***. You are all my brothers and sisters…..even if I think you suck ; ) As Bono said, “One life, with each other..sisters…brothers!”

Note:: Opinions are like a**holes, everyone…we all have em! Please, respect each other here…listen…even if you dont agree. No name calling. I have a confession…The topic here (black history month/BET) is not what my message was about… I just knew it would get a lot more attention if I used it as an example. My message is to BECOME ONE. AMERICANS, celebrate things as such, not label them this or that…Black History month should NOT go away…but it should have it’s name changed to AMERICAN HISTORY..and be made into a few months…to teach us EVERYTHING about our history…not just focus on one race. Yep, I have a hippie view of the world, and I dont care!! I am not saying to stop celebrating and remebering our history, good or bad. I AGREE that we need to teach MORE on american history concerning what we teach during “black History month”. I am not writing this to take away anything from anyone…we need MORE OF IT, but WITHOUT the race title!!!!

bataglio: I’m not necessarily talking about African Americans i’m from Australia and here our indigenous people are still being oppressed and it largely goes unrecognised by much of the population. There are very big issues regarding health (on average they die 17 years earlier than the rest of the population), their treatment while in custody, access to facilities, acknowledgement of their cultures and heritage, native land rights…the list just goes on and on. It is issues like this that must be resolved before we can all be united as one. In terms of America, for many African Americans, a system of oppression exists through the education system. If schools in certain communities (particularly the ghettos) are not equally subsidised for education, students are less likely to get into college and so earn a higher wage as an adult and so remain in a lower class of society. It is ignorant people who refuse to acknowledge these apparently inherent differences that prevent them being resolved.

“I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH” …

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh, what a dingbat! Andrianne, your lack of higher education is really demonstrated in your silly little rant.
In deconstructing your silliness: Firstly, rather, than an American history ‘month, we ALREADY have SEVERAL holidays in this country to celebrate the many facets of our country’s history:
Every January - Martin Luther King Day: Check
Every February - Presidents Day: Check
Every May - Memorial Day: Check
Every July - (the 4th) Independance Day: Check
Every September - Labor Day: Check
Every November - Thanksgiving: Check
Thanksgiving IS viewed by most people as a rememberance of the native americans — and their geneocide at the hands of the european settlers — adespite the warped narrative of ‘pilgrims and indians breaking bread’ friendly story in children’s history educational books.
As far as black history month - it’s not only us, America, who has a black history month; Canada and the UK does as well. And it’s purpose seems a valid one: a reminder of the evils of racial prejudice, the wrong-doing of their lingered socio-economical oppression, and a celebration of the many African-Americans, often direct descendants of those who were at one time enslaved in this country, and the achievements many have made prior to and since the recunstructon.
And the rest of our American history holidays: predominately the celebration of the country’s world ’superpower’ status.
It's Britney, b*tch @ 09/22/2007 at 1:30 pm
do people know that the entire world doesn’t revolve around America?
just wondering
o shu- taaappp model… gosh!
when people stop torturing other cuz of their color or when tiger woods can play on every golf course in america, than they can get rid of black history month.
We should ban Saint Patrick’d Day If you want to celebrate your Irish heritage go to Ireland .
I agree to some extent. I love when ever a white person says something about a black person, their called a racist. If a black person says something about a white person it’s “freedom of speech”. I am a Proud Black Woman, but i must say black people play the race cad a lot more than everyone else. BET is BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION, there isn’t a specific White Entertainment Television program. So whose being racist there????????
Also, this is a most salient point:
“What happened to the African American community was AMERICAN HISTORY, not BLACK HISTORY.”
I don’t know why wanting to recognize diversity is seen as racist. Black history month isn’t about making someone different it is about recognizing the contribution that African Americans have made to this country, same as every other ethnic history month. Cultural and Ethnic diversity should be respected. Racism is not recognizing that people have different cultures, it is instead using physical differences to create superiority and oppression. If we got rid of cultural awareness, every minority would be assimilated in the white mainstream. If you don’t believe me, look at films, media, and music. It is only through cultural stations, magazines, films, and books that minorities are even represented. Let’s be honest. America has a history of genocide and oppression since columbus landed, and it is naive to think that our country can simply forget the past four hundred years of discrimination in the 53 years since the civil rights act.
I don’t know who she is but I agree!
wow, she doesnt even know what she’s talking about. i agree with lulu29.
Everyone is the same and with Black History Month, it’s separating everyone’s race. It’s not right! Black people have come a long way since Martin Luther King spoke his mind and I applaud them but it’s just not right. It’s about time our society joined together and stop breaking all these races together with silly things like Asian History Month or Black History Month!
one more thing... @ 09/22/2007 at 1:36 pm
… let’s not forget that only 40 yrs ago Blacks couldn’t drink from certain water fountains or ride public transport.
getting rid of this month would be stupid.
Pointy Hat @ 09/22/2007 at 1:38 pm
She’s got a point. Somewhere. Maybe instead of singling out one particular race - there could be something like Compassion Month, where all races are obliged to show compassion to each other.
Yeah alot of people dont like this girl but she has a point. There may be other months dedicated to different races but do you hardly ever even hear about them??? Like black history month, there is stuff all over TV talking about it but I dont see anyone talking about Asian month or Jewish month etc. the black people in america went through alot of **** back in the day and that month is dedicated to those and the people that abolished slavery and fought for freedom. But there are white people and different races as well that fought for them to be free but they arent recognized. This is probably why she wrote this post because every person who made a difference should be recognized, not just because of the color of their skin. I respect the month but i think we really should have an “american history” month.
We should never forget injustices committed, but to continue to separate people is to perpetuate the racist discriminatory thinking that allows the majority groups in power to remain there, and the “minority” groups to remain as such.
i agree with Adrianne.
lol did this woman even go to school?? did she ever crack open her history book?? obviously not, cuz then she would know why there’s a black history month.
LOVE ANGELINA @ 09/22/2007 at 1:44 pm
We need that month. I am sorry, we do need it. There are other races who gets months. In China Town in Chicago they have a month. I know in Chicago Hispanics get a month. I am sorry don’t throw that playing the race card bullsh*it at me. I am all for everyone, but that month is important. How dare she try and take that away. Some schools only have black students and I find it hard to believe that white students celebrate black history month anyway, please correct if I am wrong, so she needs to STFU. Its for Black people, we need it. I am sorry. Screw her.
things always get nutty when the “race card” is brought up. i think im going to stay out of this one.
I totally agree with her. I hate it when some group of people crying for equality and yet they want special treatment. If they do not get what they wanted they will cry racism. Like the Martin Luther King day. He was not even a president and yet he was given a day to a peace the blacks.
Obviously this woman do not have a historical grasp or the perspective on race in it’s proper context.
Firstly, one cannot speak about one race then bring in all of the other races by saying this race is mistreated theirfore they deserve to have a certain status over another race. Black people as a race until forty years ago (1967) were still being lynched, they were not allowed to vote, they were still excluded from living in certain areas ( and that is still the case in most places in America today) they still make less than other Americans, and they are still disporportionatley sentenced by the criminal justice system need I continue. There are more black people in jail than any other people in America. Read about the Jena 6 and many more cases that target young black men for harsher punishment when they come in front of the criminal justice system.
Secondly, the reason we have a black history month is because our history has not been documented in any of America’s history books. Our achievements and contributions to American and the world were deliberaely excluded from the history of this country. As a result Black History Month was created to teach (young) black people about our race and our contributions to society.
Thirdly, our race was enslaved for over four hundred years. No other race has been held in slave for half that amount of time. It is black slave labour that build up this country from the south and up. I am not sure if you are aware but slave labour means without pay. So Black people and generations upon generations of blacks worked for over four hundred years without pay to build America, Great Britain, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Canada, France, Italy. You name the country African slaves worked and died building up their economies.
Fourth, I do not think someone such as yourself with your basic miseducation has the right to disrespect my race, my people and our contributions to this country and the world. Please remember that for hundreds of years during and after slavery and still many many years after the emancipaion of slavery in the middle 1800’s blacs not allowed to attend schools it was against he law in most staes in this country for a black person to be educated.
As well we as a race were terriorized by the Klu Klux Klan who were sanctioned by American lawmakers for many many years into the 19th century.
I am tempted to forgive you for your rant about this issue under the guise of caring about all people and write it off to ignorance but I am gathering that your purpose for writint this piece is coming from a place of publicity seeking. It is wrong to continue to perpetuate one injustice in order to advance your own personal goals.
Finally, a great philosohper once said something to this affect a little knowledge is worst than no knowledge. Be informed before you speak on topics of historical relevance because to do so is no simple task.
Walk Good.
im like lost of words
she should just
shut up lol
She’s right.
You racist pricks are wrong.
we shouldnt have any months dedicated to anyone. wheres Caucasian month??!?
I think black people are whinning to much. First they say they want to be equal, but wait we need our own history month and tv station. SO wait you want to be equal, but want your own stuff. I don’t get it. Where’s southern history month. I want to learn about my heritage. I want to learn about my suffering. Not yours. Black people need to get over. It has been long enough that they should move on. I am sick of the crap.
