OlderAdrianne Curry: “Boycott Black History Month!”
The original America’s Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry is speaking out against Black History Month and cable network BET (Black Entertainment Television) on her MySpace. The 25-year-old reality TV star is married to Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch. Leave your thoughts on her rant in the comments section! Here’s Adrianne’s post:
“This is gonna be hard guys. I LOVE the comedians on BET. I also LOVE the fact that they play my favorite show of all time, In Living Color. However, I do not believe in seperating ANY RACE in America. WE ARE AMERICANS! How dare we have Black History Month! In my eyes, the Native Americans deserve it MUCH more, seeing how we destroyed their ENTIRE SOCIETY. There are hardly any of them left! They also have been proven to have the WORST living conditions on their reservations. I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. One where we learn about EVERY race, ALL OF OUR LEADERS, EVERYONE! I think by having a month dedicated to one race, and not one for any other, is RACIST. Every fund set up to only help people of one race is SICK and RACIST.

Yes, I get it. Black people were slaves here once. You know what? That does suck some major balls, however, it is time to move the f*** on. Do we hear the Jews crying that they were made slaves for thousands of years? Do we hear them whine that they should OWN the pyramids in Egypt because THEY broke their backs making them? Do we hear them b**** and moan about Hitler, etc? (my hubby is a Jew)Nope, we dont. It’s time for us to UNITE AS ONE. I do not think that singling out one race, giving one race opportunities to go to college (I know a TON of poor white.asian, indian, american indian, etc etc that could use that too!), giving one race the EXCUSE to blame things on others for being whatever nationality they are, is a good way at making sure we NEVER kill racism.
I am over this s***. WE ALL CAME FROM ONE BLACK WOMAN FROM AFRICA, THAT is our EVE! It has been proven by science, and I stand by it. If any other race had a chanel dedicated to just them, we would think it was racist. If any other race demanded a month be set aside for ONLY them, they would be considered racist. I am NOT living by this double standard any longer.
Think I am racist? I am not. I know what racism is. I dated a guy named “Justin” in Junior high. Nothing serious, but I really liked him. He was the blackest of black…BEAUTIFUL skin, kinda like Alex Wek’s. He was handsome, and athletic, etc. I was called a nigger lover. But you know what? I was called that by a whole 2 people out of a school with HUNDREDS of students. THAT is why I am NOT buying this racist s*** anymore. Let us teach or children that there is NO DIFFERENCE! We are all human. I hope one day aliens land and try to kill us. Maybe THEN we would finally realize that WE are ONE.
So, I will no longer tune into BET. This is going to suck, but I do NOT like the idea of having a chanel for only 1 race. In the year 2007 in a country that is supposed to be the most advanced and equal. This is unexceptable! I will also no longer acknowledge Black History Month. Instead, I will see it the way that Morgan Freeman does (I have the quote at the bottom of my last blog on Obama/jesseJackson, and OJ). AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH! I will read/watch/and learn about ALL the people who made a difference in this country.
I am asking you ALL to join me. Black, White, Indian, Asian, Russian, Australian, etc etc…..lets be AMERICANS together! What happened to the African American community was AMERICAN HISTORY, not BLACK HISTORY. If you want to celebrate in a way that excludes others and singles one race out, count me the f*** out! I am soooo proud to be an American. I am SO proud that I have friends of every race, and none of us see each other as anything but what we are..people. Lets change Black History Month to 2 months of AMERICAN HISTORY. We will still learn about all the black leaders and people who made a difference….just not with the racist name of “Black History Month”. It has to start somewhere. I am going to do my part in making sure we are all treated EQUAL in a country that CLAIMS we are. NO MORE SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ANYONE WITH ANYTHING!
It will never happen. At least, that is what many of you will say…FINE! My number one priority here is being able to die and know that I stood up for what I believed in, and that I did not add to the SEPERATION OF AMERICANS!! I love my country, I love the people in it. I love our history, good and bad. We should LEARN from it,not dwell in it and not move forward. That’s why I am done with this s***. You are all my brothers and sisters…..even if I think you suck ; ) As Bono said, “One life, with each other..sisters…brothers!”

I have a confession…The topic here (black history month/BET) is not what my message was about… I just knew it would get a lot more attention if I used it as an example. My message is to BECOME ONE. AMERICANS, celebrate things as such, not label them this or that…Black History month should NOT go away…but it should have it’s name changed to AMERICAN HISTORY..and be made into a few months…to teach us EVERYTHING about our history…not just focus on one race. Yep, I have a hippie view of the world, and I dont care!! I am not saying to stop celebrating and remebering our history, good or bad. I AGREE that we need to teach MORE on american history concerning what we teach during “black History month”. I am not writing this to take away anything from anyone…we need MORE OF IT, but WITHOUT the race title!!!!

besides if blacks aren’t getting into good colleges it is because they are not doing well in school, ANYBODY no matter how broke their family is can get into a good college if they excelled in high school. that blacks don’t want to make an education a priority is not the schools fault, same goes for anyone who doesn’t care about their education no matter what color they are
I love holidays..every holiday wahtever the reason is great because I get to enjoy it too..black istiry month is nbo tonly fo rblack people. its an opportunity to share and learn about a culture that is no tyours..same with all other holidays..I am not hispanic, but I loved the heritage month, because it always meant good food and some salsa and merengu in my shcool…so hey jus tstop tryin to make this whol estupid rant from a very uneducated drugged out HO of any importance and enjoy the heritage months..I know I cant wait for thanksgiving..do I care whos month that is NOPE …I just want the turkey and yes I do catch teh istorical referenc eon tv now and then…
I love the gay parades in the french quarter..its colorful its fun and its another celebration….I love new orleans , they know how to join in a clebration rather from detracting to make it a negative thing…learn to enjoy these days and you will have smile on our face for each celebration.its something to look forward to…take your kids out to some of these celebrations so they dont sound like the ignorant HO when they grown up

I’m stunned and impressed that someone finally spoke up against the special treatment Afican Americans gets. She’s absoltuely right, blacks are just like every non black american and they should be treated just like them. If a white person created an a channel or school/awards that was only for their race, or formed a group that defends white criminals and portray them as the victims no matter what they did like Naacp does, people would be screaming racism and would have every right too. In my opinion the only thing connected to black history that should get it’s own day is Martin Luther King day since he literally changed the lives and futures of America’s back race and paid the ulimate price.
As for the slavery thing, people need to get over it. I could understand if it the black people whining about it where the ones it happened to but they weren’t, it was their ancestors. In today’s world the only race that has the right to complain about how their race is treated is the muslims who can subjected to racial profiling thanks to Bush and face discrimination every day of their lives. People need to stop living in the past and see what is happening in the present. What happened to the blacks, natives and jews was horrible and disgusting but it’s over and in America racism towards them is not tolerated anymore but there are other races in that country who are not as lucky.

You wrote that there are no race in Europe and that Americans should get rid of the “Race Word”. Please tell me when you were last in Europe or where in the world you deem to be Europe, because when last I checked there were race riots in France last summer, as recently as about one month ago there were anit-semetic violence in Germany and there have been violence directed at Asian in Germany and Austrailia (though of course Austrailia is not Europe)
So please do not use Europe as some grant example for racial hormany on which to base your case. You are obviously ill informed.
And to all those who continue to ignore the facts about the level of racism in the world, I feel very sorry for you because you are the ones continually being duped by your government into thinking that they are looking out for your best interest. If you were at peace and comfortable with your life you would not be spewing such venim about another race or you would have taken the time to educate yourself about others in an effort to have a better understanding of the world around you. Even through all of the violence pepetrated on to our race yet we still rise to create every form of music from Jazz to Ragtime, Rock ‘n’ Roll, R&B, and let’s not forget the most relevant form of music and life style today HIP HOP. Once every non creative others by others I mean those of other races who choose to jump on the bandwagon to deny us what is truely ours.
I not one of those black persons intimitdated by others because luckily my parents educated me enough so I know who I am and who I am is not inferior to any race. I walk around this world like I deserve to be a part of it and no one can tell me other wise not matter how many of you boycott BET. I do not depend on white people to define me as a human being. I have always known who I am. I am from a people of greatness and that is why my race is so hated.
Still we rise, our tribes from Africa are resliient because we existed for thousands of years before slavery and yes BET is a frivilous medium but it is just one means of showcasing our relevance as a group and yes we will continue to teach our children about the greatness of our ancestors no matter how you protest.
Finally, we were civillized before any neanderthal vikings in Europe, we taught Europeans how to live democraticly. We once trusted them and they took our knowledge then turned around and betrayed us just as they did the Aboronginal peoples just look at the Sphinx in Egypt why are the noses destroyed. And yes I know enough to be aware that not all whites are guilty of being racist (Jimmy Carter) and many others are great human beings, but let’s face it there is a white supremist culture in America and that is why we continue to fight. For those other nationaliities who are afraid to put themselves out there and publicize their holidays or celebrate their ethnicity, don’t hate us be brave and join us because yet still we rise.
