The original America’s Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry is speaking out against Black History Month and cable network BET (Black Entertainment Television) on her MySpace. The 25-year-old reality TV star is married to Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch. Leave your thoughts on her rant in the comments section! Here’s Adrianne’s post:
“This is gonna be hard guys. I LOVE the comedians on BET. I also LOVE the fact that they play my favorite show of all time, In Living Color. However, I do not believe in seperating ANY RACE in America. WE ARE AMERICANS! How dare we have Black History Month! In my eyes, the Native Americans deserve it MUCH more, seeing how we destroyed their ENTIRE SOCIETY. There are hardly any of them left! They also have been proven to have the WORST living conditions on their reservations. I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. One where we learn about EVERY race, ALL OF OUR LEADERS, EVERYONE! I think by having a month dedicated to one race, and not one for any other, is RACIST. Every fund set up to only help people of one race is SICK and RACIST.

Yes, I get it. Black people were slaves here once. You know what? That does suck some major balls, however, it is time to move the f*** on. Do we hear the Jews crying that they were made slaves for thousands of years? Do we hear them whine that they should OWN the pyramids in Egypt because THEY broke their backs making them? Do we hear them b**** and moan about Hitler, etc? (my hubby is a Jew)Nope, we dont. It’s time for us to UNITE AS ONE. I do not think that singling out one race, giving one race opportunities to go to college (I know a TON of poor white.asian, indian, american indian, etc etc that could use that too!), giving one race the EXCUSE to blame things on others for being whatever nationality they are, is a good way at making sure we NEVER kill racism.
I am over this s***. WE ALL CAME FROM ONE BLACK WOMAN FROM AFRICA, THAT is our EVE! It has been proven by science, and I stand by it. If any other race had a chanel dedicated to just them, we would think it was racist. If any other race demanded a month be set aside for ONLY them, they would be considered racist. I am NOT living by this double standard any longer.
Think I am racist? I am not. I know what racism is. I dated a guy named “Justin” in Junior high. Nothing serious, but I really liked him. He was the blackest of black…BEAUTIFUL skin, kinda like Alex Wek’s. He was handsome, and athletic, etc. I was called a nigger lover. But you know what? I was called that by a whole 2 people out of a school with HUNDREDS of students. THAT is why I am NOT buying this racist s*** anymore. Let us teach or children that there is NO DIFFERENCE! We are all human. I hope one day aliens land and try to kill us. Maybe THEN we would finally realize that WE are ONE.
So, I will no longer tune into BET. This is going to suck, but I do NOT like the idea of having a chanel for only 1 race. In the year 2007 in a country that is supposed to be the most advanced and equal. This is unexceptable! I will also no longer acknowledge Black History Month. Instead, I will see it the way that Morgan Freeman does (I have the quote at the bottom of my last blog on Obama/jesseJackson, and OJ). AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH! I will read/watch/and learn about ALL the people who made a difference in this country.
I am asking you ALL to join me. Black, White, Indian, Asian, Russian, Australian, etc etc…..lets be AMERICANS together! What happened to the African American community was AMERICAN HISTORY, not BLACK HISTORY. If you want to celebrate in a way that excludes others and singles one race out, count me the f*** out! I am soooo proud to be an American. I am SO proud that I have friends of every race, and none of us see each other as anything but what we are..people. Lets change Black History Month to 2 months of AMERICAN HISTORY. We will still learn about all the black leaders and people who made a difference….just not with the racist name of “Black History Month”. It has to start somewhere. I am going to do my part in making sure we are all treated EQUAL in a country that CLAIMS we are. NO MORE SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ANYONE WITH ANYTHING!
It will never happen. At least, that is what many of you will say…FINE! My number one priority here is being able to die and know that I stood up for what I believed in, and that I did not add to the SEPERATION OF AMERICANS!! I love my country, I love the people in it. I love our history, good and bad. We should LEARN from it,not dwell in it and not move forward. That’s why I am done with this s***. You are all my brothers and sisters…..even if I think you suck ; ) As Bono said, “One life, with each other..sisters…brothers!”

I have a confession…The topic here (black history month/BET) is not what my message was about… I just knew it would get a lot more attention if I used it as an example. My message is to BECOME ONE. AMERICANS, celebrate things as such, not label them this or that…Black History month should NOT go away…but it should have it’s name changed to AMERICAN HISTORY..and be made into a few months…to teach us EVERYTHING about our history…not just focus on one race. Yep, I have a hippie view of the world, and I dont care!! I am not saying to stop celebrating and remebering our history, good or bad. I AGREE that we need to teach MORE on american history concerning what we teach during “black History month”. I have yet to see anyone in this country stop seperation, racism, or discrimination no matter how educated they are.
So quit bashing on the woman. It was a Blog and she has the right to Freedom of Speech and an opinion. She doesn’t make policy decisions or law.
If you want it to change, may I suggest… Write your Congressmen, Senators, or Corporation Heads who run this country.
You guys wanna know one of the reasons BET came into existence? MTV wouldn’t play black artist when it first started because they believed that white middle class children didn’t listen to Black artist. Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson was able to get the President of CBS Records to give MTV an ultimatum that if they didn’t play “Billie Jean” they were going to pull all of their white artist from the network. As a result, “Video Soul” was created on BET so there would be an outlet for all Black artist to play their music videos. The network grew from there. Were the creators of BET suppose to just end their network because MTV started putting more Black Artist on their station? Get real.

I just want to point out a misconception I often see. People think that “Historically Black” colleges are cut off to other races. That is totally false because other races are allowed to go to these schools. It’s just that they don’t apply to these schools. And most of these colleges were created back in the late 19th/early 20th century when Blacks weren’t allowed to attend White colleges and universities.If they were able to go, many were treated badly and made to feel uncomfortable.
Let’s educate ourselves first before we start bashing and putting each other down. Whether you’re Black, White, Asian, Etc show some class while presenting your opinion.

I agree with Adreena. It is a form of segragation to have seperate channels, months seperated to one race or another. If black people want to be viewed for more than their skin color then they should stop bringing it up at every opprotunity they get.
The only people keeping the black people down today is themselves. Not one person alive today suffered from slavery, was a slave master. You can honor those from the past, but stop using it as a crutch. There are plenty of blacks who are lawyers, doctors, teachers, into politics and the list goes on. As for BET, the station was created because MTV refused to show Black videos and up until the Beastie Boys, they refused to show rap/hip hop. The same goes with Essence, JET, and Ebony. Because mainstream media would not cover issues about African Americans, those publications and stations were created. It wasn’t like BET was the KKK where they excluded other races. Justin Timberlake is all up and through BET. Jon B. was. Beastie Boys were. Bubba Sparks, Fat Joe, Daddy Yankee, and various other races. BET did what MTV would not; they made their station capable of entertaining all audiences. I wish I could meet this lady so I could school her on the facts.

I am from the slums. I attended a county high school through the desegregation program because the city of st. louis thought it would be better to spend money on the baseball field, instead of the cities high school. As a result many of the inner city and county high schools where blacks live and pay taxes or not a-credited high schools and the desegregation programs are long gone.
I graduated year 2000 and I myself and I’m black, so this is still current. I experience being treated different all througout 1st grade throughout college. I graduated from University amissouri Rolla with an Electrical Engineering degree. During my time in school teachers always treated me different and they opted to give me lower grades than I deserved, as if C’s were exceptable because of my black skin.

Whites are not “becoming” p*ssed. They were more p*ssed a long time ago. There is still racism, but most people are not nearly as bad as they used to be, so speak for yourselves. These days, people are marrying into other races & having children because nonracist people acknowledge the fact that not all whites are alike and not all blacks are alike. Racists are getting steaming mad because these days more and more of their children turn against them and date or marry people of another race. It’s just the ultimate punishment I think. Some of them have to accept the situation or lose the relationship with their children. Only the hardest of hardcore racists are willing to do that.

For the record, “WE” didn’t take anything from the Native Americans. History clearly states that a “very” select few were in control during that period on history. Please read a book or two, starting with the bible. Here’s a few starter verses for you, Matthew 7:1-6. Better yet read the entire chapter, it will enlighten you. The bible predicted ALL that we are going through, we can’t change history, we can only learn from it.

As the mother of 3 black children. I am trying to find this college funding. Can someone give me a clue??? All of my children graduated high school with honors, magna *** laude and *** laude, one of my daughters graduated college this pass spring Summa *** Laude, and I am STILL using creative methods to pay for college. I’ve had to take out loans, use the equity in my home, and whatever else it takes, sorry to say we are not all receiving a FREE education. I will be dead three times over before it’s all paid for. I wouldn’t change a thing either. These are my children and I do what is necessary so that they won’t live ignorant lives. So when you see a minority strolling across campus, don’t assume ALL of them are there because of some free ride, it’s not true. I don’t have star athletes with scholarships, or “free” government money. I have 3 intelligent, hard working, God fearing children trying to make the best life possible for themselves and others around them. Most of you don’t care about equality, nor do you care about “getting over it”, it’s you that keep the nonsense going, by making comments like you do. Life is NEVER going to be fair. We always want what we don’t have. If you’re born rich, that’s a problem, if you’re born poor, that’s a problem, if you’re tall or short, fat or thin, black or white (funny how everything always goes back to that), dumb or smart. That’s what we need to get over. We all need to learn from the past, and not repeat it.

Why not wear a shirt that said “American Girl”?,if you are for “American History” only?.. And why in one of your “My Fair Brady” episodes you talk about Families sticking together,naming Italians and Mexicans that believe in sticking together as a family unit. You never once mentioned that Asians,Indians,African Americans,Arabs and other races also has a very strong family unit.

Blacks will end up in jail sooner or later
February is Black History Month and BET is Black Entertainment Television. But March is Women’s History Month; Lifetime is a women’s TV network. Should we stop celebrating Women’s History Month and cancel Lifetime too? September 15 to October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month; Telemundo is a Spanish TV network. Should we stop celebrating Hispanic heritage month and cancel Telemundo too?
Months like those that celebrate black history, women’s history and hispanic heritage are put in place to celebrate people who are otherwise overlooked, and not valued as much on a day to day basis in American society. So I believe that until minorities are as well off as main stream Americans (white, heterosexual, christian men) we need months to focus on their issues and accomplishments.
