OlderAdrianne Curry: “Boycott Black History Month!”
The original America’s Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry is speaking out against Black History Month and cable network BET (Black Entertainment Television) on her MySpace. The 25-year-old reality TV star is married to Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch. Leave your thoughts on her rant in the comments section! Here’s Adrianne’s post:
“This is gonna be hard guys. I LOVE the comedians on BET. I also LOVE the fact that they play my favorite show of all time, In Living Color. However, I do not believe in seperating ANY RACE in America. WE ARE AMERICANS! How dare we have Black History Month! In my eyes, the Native Americans deserve it MUCH more, seeing how we destroyed their ENTIRE SOCIETY. There are hardly any of them left! They also have been proven to have the WORST living conditions on their reservations. I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. One where we learn about EVERY race, ALL OF OUR LEADERS, EVERYONE! I think by having a month dedicated to one race, and not one for any other, is RACIST. Every fund set up to only help people of one race is SICK and RACIST.

Yes, I get it. Black people were slaves here once. You know what? That does suck some major balls, however, it is time to move the f*** on. Do we hear the Jews crying that they were made slaves for thousands of years? Do we hear them whine that they should OWN the pyramids in Egypt because THEY broke their backs making them? Do we hear them b**** and moan about Hitler, etc? (my hubby is a Jew)Nope, we dont. It’s time for us to UNITE AS ONE. I do not think that singling out one race, giving one race opportunities to go to college (I know a TON of poor white.asian, indian, american indian, etc etc that could use that too!), giving one race the EXCUSE to blame things on others for being whatever nationality they are, is a good way at making sure we NEVER kill racism.
I am over this s***. WE ALL CAME FROM ONE BLACK WOMAN FROM AFRICA, THAT is our EVE! It has been proven by science, and I stand by it. If any other race had a chanel dedicated to just them, we would think it was racist. If any other race demanded a month be set aside for ONLY them, they would be considered racist. I am NOT living by this double standard any longer.
Think I am racist? I am not. I know what racism is. I dated a guy named “Justin” in Junior high. Nothing serious, but I really liked him. He was the blackest of black…BEAUTIFUL skin, kinda like Alex Wek’s. He was handsome, and athletic, etc. I was called a nigger lover. But you know what? I was called that by a whole 2 people out of a school with HUNDREDS of students. THAT is why I am NOT buying this racist s*** anymore. Let us teach or children that there is NO DIFFERENCE! We are all human. I hope one day aliens land and try to kill us. Maybe THEN we would finally realize that WE are ONE.
So, I will no longer tune into BET. This is going to suck, but I do NOT like the idea of having a chanel for only 1 race. In the year 2007 in a country that is supposed to be the most advanced and equal. This is unexceptable! I will also no longer acknowledge Black History Month. Instead, I will see it the way that Morgan Freeman does (I have the quote at the bottom of my last blog on Obama/jesseJackson, and OJ). AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH! I will read/watch/and learn about ALL the people who made a difference in this country.
I am asking you ALL to join me. Black, White, Indian, Asian, Russian, Australian, etc etc…..lets be AMERICANS together! What happened to the African American community was AMERICAN HISTORY, not BLACK HISTORY. If you want to celebrate in a way that excludes others and singles one race out, count me the f*** out! I am soooo proud to be an American. I am SO proud that I have friends of every race, and none of us see each other as anything but what we are..people. Lets change Black History Month to 2 months of AMERICAN HISTORY. We will still learn about all the black leaders and people who made a difference….just not with the racist name of “Black History Month”. It has to start somewhere. I am going to do my part in making sure we are all treated EQUAL in a country that CLAIMS we are. NO MORE SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ANYONE WITH ANYTHING!
It will never happen. At least, that is what many of you will say…FINE! My number one priority here is being able to die and know that I stood up for what I believed in, and that I did not add to the SEPERATION OF AMERICANS!! I love my country, I love the people in it. I love our history, good and bad. We should LEARN from it,not dwell in it and not move forward. That’s why I am done with this s***. You are all my brothers and sisters…..even if I think you suck ; ) As Bono said, “One life, with each other..sisters…brothers!”
Note:: Opinions are like a**holes, everyone…we all have em! Please, respect each other here…listen…even if you dont agree. No name calling. I have a confession…The topic here (black history month/BET) is not what my message was about… I just knew it would get a lot more attention if I used it as an example. My message is to BECOME ONE. AMERICANS, celebrate things as such, not label them this or that…Black History month should NOT go away…but it should have it’s name changed to AMERICAN HISTORY..and be made into a few months…to teach us EVERYTHING about our history…not just focus on one race. Yep, I have a hippie view of the world, and I dont care!! I am not saying to stop celebrating and remebering our history, good or bad. I AGREE that we need to teach MORE on american history concerning what we teach during “black History month”. I am not writing this to take away anything from anyone…we need MORE OF IT, but WITHOUT the race title!!!!

I agree with her,, We dont have a Congresional White, Asian or Hispanic Caucas. There isn’t a United College fund for anyone but Negro. There isn’t a NAA-P for anyone but colored. Why can all the other races in the world get along without these special groups.
It seems when ever anyone speaks out about this in the negative they are called racist or stupid. I think it is stupid and lazy for any group to blame all there social problems on events that occurred more than 400 yrs ago.
And had anyone figured out that Africa is a continent, not a nation. Why dont blacks say they are Mali, Gambia or Bots-American. I will tell you why, because they aren’t. They are americans, they have never been to Africa. I am Italian, but I dont call myself a European-America or even a Italian-American. I am an American, I dont need or want a hyphen.
People need to get over this and stop blaming everyone else for there own short comings and expecting the goverment to bail them out of everything. If you are to lazy to get out of town with a huricane coming, the goverment is not to blame,,, you are. Are the people of California, Texas, Alabama or Fla. still crying about Rita? NO, they are re-building there own towns and not spending goverment money for cigerettes, tatoo’s or lap-dances.

Listening to Freedom’s rants make the point that many whites bring up. She is a troubled, hate filled individual who we all should feel sorry for. Nobody owes you anything Freedom. You are paranoid beyond belief and are twice the racist that you accuse others of bring. I feel sorry for you and anyone that thinks like you do. You have no shot at an enjoyable life and will always be misearable.
I think she is completely right. A special month for one race is racist towards all of the other races. How do we decide who gets a month. Everyone says they are against racism, but then they support groups that clearly separate based on ethnicity and color. Where is Indian month, Indigenous South American Tribe Month, oh, and White Month? A history month that excludes everyone but black people is just more racism, in a different form, but still racism.
What Adrianne Curry is saying is not in any way racist, if you can get over the fact the shes using black history month as an example. Myself and other people of many races including african american have said the same thing, why do we have months set aside to celebrate targeted races, when we should be trying to get people to think of each other as beyond black white asian etc and start thinking of each other as just people..BET and Black History Month do not encourage helping America feel “equal” And althoug its harsh to say, The minds of us evil white people dosent work the way it did what..200, 300 years ago? No one alive today can tell you they were affected by slavery simply because it never happened to them, it happened to there ancestors. If were gonna get touchy over **** that went down with our ancestors then everyone should be demanding there own month. It’s honestly ridiculous to me that black people STILL to this day refer to slavery as if it happened 20 years ago instead of 200. That is no longer a part of our world, it died in 1860, we should not be re living it one month out of the year every year. And if we are going to have to then we need to start including some other races that went through the same and worse, yes worse because black people did not suffer the most out of all the races and religions that were subject to terrible things because certain people could not open there minds to the fact that not all groups of people share the same mindset. why is it that when someone has something to say about black people, OOH all of a sudden shes a racist, yet there are no channels for white people because then they will be racists and ****. yes black people have their own month and those people that have done something good for the race are recognized in this month and thats how it should be, who cares if its the shortest month? atleast you have one, and atleast your month is recognized in all schools.

I sit here and read all of these comments and think to my self there are a few out their that may still have some prejudice toward others but for the most part you and everybody else don’t like racism. The problem is that if how I think we need to fix it isn’t the way you would fix it then I’m racist. If everyone continues to miss judge our intentions (in other words don’t jump to conclusions) the problem will never be solved. We can’t institutionalise the remedy but rather we individually utilise our differences. Everyone in America, not to mention the world, is wonderfully unique and we all have something to bring us all up. By the way don’t give me that one person can’t make a difference. Black PPl survived because mainly we are physically genetically, and then intellectually strong. The mere aggressive nature of black ppl is what is going for us. Or else we would have been wiped out like the native Americans. The ill we took from the hands of whites can make us take control of the world and wipe whites from the lands they took from other people last 500 years.

Do you people realize that white people were slaves at one point in time in this country as well? Read an Indian Captivity Narrative like the one by Mary Rowlandson. When white people came to this country, yes, they treated the Native Americans cruelly, but some Native Americans actually enslaved white people as well! They took them away from their families and made them move to all different parts of the country - exactly what white people did to black people.
I say all of this as a Native American myself…
#8 - if Black History was taught in public and private schools effectively, there would be no forgetting about it “in mainstream society”, and thus we would not need to dedicate a month to it or any other “hostory”. What about Italian contributions? And, there are only 12 months in a year, so if anyone can list the 12 month dedication names, I am all ears (and there is a Save your hearing month, or so I’ve heard - so this would make 5 months so far mentioned, that leaves 7 to name). Personally, we should just leave the mohnt naming to Penthouse Pets or Playboy Bunnies. Much more effective, far mor mamorable, and certainly Pets and Bunnies are much maligned in societies all over the world - just ask PETA.
