Adrianne Curry: “Boycott Black History Month!”

Wow. Uh… Wow. That would’ve meant a little more to me if all the words had been spelled right, but I still would’ve thought it was crap. You know why there’s no white TV channel? Because almost ALL channels were white TV channels until recently. Even now, sometimes it feels like they throw in a token minority to try and seem hip and with it. It’s not like white folks are not well represented on TV. *shakes head* I think sometimes when someone is on a rampage of some sort, they only look at the picture from one side and see what they want to see that just proves their point. Ignoring the fact that it wasn’t all that long ago when, say, a black model had never been on the cover of certain magazines and no black actor had ever won an Oscar for best actor or actress. These things happened in our lifetime. It’s not like it’s all over, let’s just get over it now. Racism is still alive and well. It’s getting better, but ignoring it won’t fix everything.

I just want to say that I agree with what Perris is saying. Adrianne, if you took the time to do research before you went on this ignorant rant of yours, you wold know that every race has a month. Even women have a month. It’s March if you would like to know. Slavery became an institution in America that lasted 400 years as well as nearly 60 years of segregation. To comment on the “Justin” guy you dated…how is that relevant. “He was the BLACKEST OF BLACK…” is supposed to make me feel better?? Well at least you were only called ****** by 2 people. Guess that means you know the struggle. Maybe you should open up a book and read about the history of African-Americans in this country. You just help prove the point the country hasn’t come as far as we all would like to dream.

i am a cuban-american and yes i have been called a spic many times in my day. but the bottom line is that whatever i have been called and whatever history has occurred to my ethnic people, i don’t really care. have a special month for one race only emphasizes the discrimination that is still occuring towards that race by separating them from any other and pitifully GIVING them a month as if america owes them something. we owe no one anything. every american, no matter born here or not, should strive to be sucessful, law abiding citizens contributing positively to america. remember, that african american status is simply a difference color of skin, potentially hair and facial features that are not caucasion and their ancestors brought here from another country which is, as far as i am concerned, just location. how does all of this make them inferior??? i just don’t get it. how did that racist thing start to begin with?? how does skin color and african physical features make one so inferior that they have to have a special month. THE FACT IS THAT THEY ARE NOT INFERIOR AND SHOULD BE TREATED EQUALLY, AND BY BEING TREATED EQUALLY, THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE THEIR OWN CHANNEL. THAT IN ITSELF IS SO RACISM. let’s ban all special treatment which will always separates mankind and let’s just look at each as equal brothers and sisters? WITHOUT SPECIAL TREATMENT!! i would even be against a latin channel. my channels are diverse as my mind is diverse. i live diversity and my home clearly has not favored any one channel for any reason pertaining to race. this is comical to me.

I agree with her 100%. Generally I disapprove of anything written in ALL CAPS, but her distaste for this subjust is quite apparent. I share this distaste. Oprah is the most successful woman in America and in November we will likely elect an minority as our President. Race is only an issue if you make it one. I see people for who they are, not solely for their ethnicity.

I’m not a big fan,but she is right. I’m part Indian and Irish. You can’t blame others for what happend in the past my people sufferd more than they did.There lands taken away and they got diseases they never had. I’m sorry to say my people all the American Indains had it way much harder. I am proud to be an American,but I’m more proud to be Indian and Irish. And for all of you people that say every heritage has there time. You don’t hear about it. So Adrinne I’m behind you on this one.I agree with you 100% You go girl!!!!!!!!!

I think just bcuz its called black history month dosent mean everyone has to celebrat it so it dosent need to go anywhere if it affends you just ignore the month just think of it as the month of valentines and why worry about the month the mexicans have their own day sure its just a say buts just about them

Its ok. This is how most white people think. They are uneducated on the topic. She can’t help that she is so self absorbed she only notices black culture endeavors. She has no clue that we, black people, arent the only ones with their own TV station or their own Month.

Its rants like this that reaffirms my belief that EVERYBODY should take a required HS course on Anthropology and/or Cultures. I cant believe she is comparing what the Native Americans went through with the enslavement of Hebrews and Black people. Thats disrespectful to both cultures.

If she was educated she would know that Affirmative Action is in place and used most by The Jewish and Women.

If she paid attention to her education in the Public Schooling she would realize that 95% of the History curriculum is about White Men. 2% about women 2% about native americans and .5% about african history and the rest maybe some spanish asian.

Now how fair is that?

The Japanese Americans were placed in internment camps….10 years later they received reparations and an official apology from the US….

Freedom of speach except when YOU don’t like an oppinion? I support this blog and her comments. Try growing up as an Irish American enslaved during the civil war to fight for the north and return to “Help wanted - Irish need NOT apply” signs all over NYC was a plight to some Americans. Did you study that in school? Hell no! You think blacks burned Watts in 1965? See what the Irish did to NYC in 1865. Black History month had good intentions - as predicted, it failed as badly as the MLK holiday and affirm action etc… The fact that OBAMA is leading the dem party for President in ‘08 is PROOF that blacks are not so oppressed after all but then again - keep milking that cow there ain’t nothing like laying on your ass and collecting FREE-Bees, huh? As for RACISM… go to DC, Baltimore, Philly or Newark and ask a black man if he likes or respects whites - you’ll get RACISM. and don’t forget the EBONICS experts at Berkley or Oakland…

Commentary from someone who uses her body to earn a living (or barely get by)? Please recognize this for what it is. Adrian Curry has no claim to fame. She’s had no major work since Top Model–unless you want to count the low-brow reality show she did with Christopher Knight (that didn’t do too well either). This is a ploy to stir up some controversy and notariety for someone who is obviously out of touch with reality, particularly when it comes to issues concerning BLACK folk. Adrian, your reality is this: your career is over. You never had one. To attack Black history month for the sake of publicitiy reveals just how ignorant you really are–as if your show hadn’t done it already.
