OlderAdrianne Curry: “Boycott Black History Month!”
The original America’s Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry is speaking out against Black History Month and cable network BET (Black Entertainment Television) on her MySpace. The 25-year-old reality TV star is married to Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch. Leave your thoughts on her rant in the comments section! Here’s Adrianne’s post:
“This is gonna be hard guys. I LOVE the comedians on BET. I also LOVE the fact that they play my favorite show of all time, In Living Color. However, I do not believe in seperating ANY RACE in America. WE ARE AMERICANS! How dare we have Black History Month! In my eyes, the Native Americans deserve it MUCH more, seeing how we destroyed their ENTIRE SOCIETY. There are hardly any of them left! They also have been proven to have the WORST living conditions on their reservations. I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. One where we learn about EVERY race, ALL OF OUR LEADERS, EVERYONE! I think by having a month dedicated to one race, and not one for any other, is RACIST. Every fund set up to only help people of one race is SICK and RACIST.

Yes, I get it. Black people were slaves here once. You know what? That does suck some major balls, however, it is time to move the f*** on. Do we hear the Jews crying that they were made slaves for thousands of years? Do we hear them whine that they should OWN the pyramids in Egypt because THEY broke their backs making them? Do we hear them b**** and moan about Hitler, etc? (my hubby is a Jew)Nope, we dont. It’s time for us to UNITE AS ONE. I do not think that singling out one race, giving one race opportunities to go to college (I know a TON of poor white.asian, indian, american indian, etc etc that could use that too!), giving one race the EXCUSE to blame things on others for being whatever nationality they are, is a good way at making sure we NEVER kill racism.
I am over this s***. WE ALL CAME FROM ONE BLACK WOMAN FROM AFRICA, THAT is our EVE! It has been proven by science, and I stand by it. If any other race had a chanel dedicated to just them, we would think it was racist. If any other race demanded a month be set aside for ONLY them, they would be considered racist. I am NOT living by this double standard any longer.
Think I am racist? I am not. I know what racism is. I dated a guy named “Justin” in Junior high. Nothing serious, but I really liked him. He was the blackest of black…BEAUTIFUL skin, kinda like Alex Wek’s. He was handsome, and athletic, etc. I was called a nigger lover. But you know what? I was called that by a whole 2 people out of a school with HUNDREDS of students. THAT is why I am NOT buying this racist s*** anymore. Let us teach or children that there is NO DIFFERENCE! We are all human. I hope one day aliens land and try to kill us. Maybe THEN we would finally realize that WE are ONE.
So, I will no longer tune into BET. This is going to suck, but I do NOT like the idea of having a chanel for only 1 race. In the year 2007 in a country that is supposed to be the most advanced and equal. This is unexceptable! I will also no longer acknowledge Black History Month. Instead, I will see it the way that Morgan Freeman does (I have the quote at the bottom of my last blog on Obama/jesseJackson, and OJ). AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH! I will read/watch/and learn about ALL the people who made a difference in this country.
I am asking you ALL to join me. Black, White, Indian, Asian, Russian, Australian, etc etc…..lets be AMERICANS together! What happened to the African American community was AMERICAN HISTORY, not BLACK HISTORY. If you want to celebrate in a way that excludes others and singles one race out, count me the f*** out! I am soooo proud to be an American. I am SO proud that I have friends of every race, and none of us see each other as anything but what we are..people. Lets change Black History Month to 2 months of AMERICAN HISTORY. We will still learn about all the black leaders and people who made a difference….just not with the racist name of “Black History Month”. It has to start somewhere. I am going to do my part in making sure we are all treated EQUAL in a country that CLAIMS we are. NO MORE SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ANYONE WITH ANYTHING!
It will never happen. At least, that is what many of you will say…FINE! My number one priority here is being able to die and know that I stood up for what I believed in, and that I did not add to the SEPERATION OF AMERICANS!! I love my country, I love the people in it. I love our history, good and bad. We should LEARN from it,not dwell in it and not move forward. That’s why I am done with this s***. You are all my brothers and sisters…..even if I think you suck ; ) As Bono said, “One life, with each other..sisters…brothers!”
Note:: Opinions are like a**holes, everyone…we all have em! Please, respect each other here…listen…even if you dont agree. No name calling. I have a confession…The topic here (black history month/BET) is not what my message was about… I just knew it would get a lot more attention if I used it as an example. My message is to BECOME ONE. AMERICANS, celebrate things as such, not label them this or that…Black History month should NOT go away…but it should have it’s name changed to AMERICAN HISTORY..and be made into a few months…to teach us EVERYTHING about our history…not just focus on one race. Yep, I have a hippie view of the world, and I dont care!! I am not saying to stop celebrating and remebering our history, good or bad. I AGREE that we need to teach MORE on american history concerning what we teach during “black History month”. I am not writing this to take away anything from anyone…we need MORE OF IT, but WITHOUT the race title!!!!

Wow what a simplistic arguement she is presenting. She is not educated on the subject and should have considered doing (real) research before presenting her opinion.
She is a model what do you expect.
As for Morgan Freeman I think he has forgotten where he came from and his struggle.
The money must have changed him so now he has forgotten what black people go through such as being beaaten up by police, that’s why he cannot commemorate what we as black people have gone through.
All it will take is an incident such as what OJ Simpson had to go through to finally realise who he is.
I am black and if they get rid of Black History Month, Then Blacks should only spend their money with blacks-it’s not a black issue it’s a money issue-the green makes the rules-she will recant this if there is enough pressure on her show or her sponsors, so whatever.

First of all, the girl needs a history lesson. To say that Native Americans were treated worse than blacks is insane. They weren’t just ran out of their home, they were taken from it and enslaved. Their families were ripped apart, they were tortured, and saw more pain than (hopefully) anyone will ever see again. To me, Black History Month celebrates all that they have endured and overcome.
I’m white but I’m all for any celebration, holiday, network, awards…anything, anywhere, anytime that brings attention and respect to any race. Everyone should be proud of their race and there’s nothing in the world wrong with letting the world know about it. This atttention ***** should just get over it.
Black History month is a very important part of our society - to try to make it controversial or belittle it is just wrong on so many levels.

74 Lula29: it’s sad that I need to ’speak up’ about my race by using the race card. Asian people don’t like to play the race card….we accept what happening to us and remain quiet. We don’t need to create controversy and say “oh it’s b/c I’m Asian” every time sometimes happens like when we get rejected for a job, gets mistreated when going into a restaurant, and wait longer than others….etc. We just accept whats happening to us. We don’t whine about it and create a scene and call people racist.
78 Aeon: Yes, the mistreatment we get is different than African Americans..but does it make it any better?? No it doesn’t. It’s not your job to judge which discrimination is better and which is worse. We also get discriminated everyday by all kinds of people, we remain in the back and work our 60 hour weeks and don’t say anything. And if you must know…remember the Japanese in the U.S during WWII? If you were Japanese during the war, they assumed you were a spy and put you in a concentration camp. Is that fair?
I appreciate the courage of Ms. Curry to speak her mind, regardless of whether or not you agree with her views. The pot needs to be stirred in order to effect change.
Ms. Curry’s fame, albeit small, has given her a platform from which to voice her opinions, let her use it however she sees fit. It’s her ballpark, you can choose whether or not to play.
It is refreshing to hear from a young person in Hollywood who is not the likes of Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, etc.
Is she serious? She was on America’s Next Top Model. She is a drunk and has so many issues. Maybe she should work on her marriage with all that passion instead of trying to make a country who was founded on lies. The Indians were here. We were dragged by chains. plymoth rock landed on us. America is a divided nation and will always be that way. Have a white history month. that would be hilarious. You have 11 months to choose. I think the KKK wanted the same treatment. Why don’t Adrienne join them in their efforts? When we speak on freedom we are disolusioned. The leaders and generals of that time murder millions of native americans and african people in the name of God. If she did any research on American HISTORY she would keep her trap shut. In 2007, this country is more divided than ever in its history. African-Americans live in their neighborhoods and Whites live their neighborhoods. Its a fact. (Maybe there are a few that get in but they are never welcomed) We have so many issues in this contry right now that are reflecting Ms. Curry views. She is probably not the person because to have this dialogue but I am going to entertain the idea. Ms. Curry should erase her myspace immediately because she is stirring the water. enough is enough!
Black Histrory Month is a way creating dialogue around the world for people like Adrianne and her like. This month is a way of educating and influencing the vast majority on historical issues that reflect the African-American community that are long ignored throughout the year. This month shows the influence of history makers such as WE Dubois,Langston Hughes, Harriett Tubman,Rosa Parks,Eldrige Cleavage, Althea Gibson, and the list goes on. Which I’m sure she knows nothing about. Let’s give her a test? We when stop learning we are in trouble. Some in the school system get left behind and this program has assisted in educating people the vast amount of contributions of African-Americans and Afro-Carribean, and african people. It gives a brief window into a culture that goes unnoticed throughout history. It’s still seperate and not equal but at least 28 days are dedicated to it. This month has been such a positive influence on the world and she would rather it be called American History??? That’s a great idea lets start with the school system which she knows nothing about. Let’s have her read the text on Brown vs Board. Which has been dismantled with the new supreme court. Maybe this explains the “white tree”? American is on her way back to an era that we thought was over segregation. Ms. Curry is a catalyst to a bigger problem.
When she has gone through oppression been enslaved and worked for wages below the poverty line ,refusal of educucation,forced into prostitution,
gone though underground railroad,forced to eat slop and left overs from their masters garbage,picked cotton,peaches,peanuts for free,laid railroad tracks for free,serve time for standing up for voting rights, marching peacefully and had police beat on with batons and arrest you under false pretense while dogs attack for equal treatment, When great athletes like Jackie Robinson stood proud while whites called him ****** and spat upon him. Look at our proud American history today, The fien people of Jena, LA think a noose is a practical joke? Ohh.. Maybe black history month needs to be mandatory in high schools thoughout the country. It’s amazes me that whites have spoken on camera “We don’t have any problems with black people in Jena” Hmmm. I beg to differ. I’m sure they will open their arms to Ms. Curry views. Maybe sit under the white tree together and think what if we have no black history month anymore. American needs to wake up and deal with its past and present racial issues. We need to teach tolerance and to appreciate all cultures. Racist attitudes and Indifference are taught by people in power. Follow the money trail and the boogey man will be exposed. If the parents stop teaching this disgusting behavior our school system will not be filled with so many bigots. Its starts in the playground. Take a look at what goes on during playtimes. Not picking on just La. NYC is where I call home and there are so many instances of prejudice. The city of new york and its rogue police department filed false reports all the time. African-American men get stopped frisked and basically have no rights. Just last week college kids were beaten up by eastern european men and followed and attacked in the subway. They were called racist names and brought to jail by NY’s finest. While the white students who did the attacking were let go? Yes, NYC is just as racist and seperate as Louisana.
This is not nostalgia just the plain truth. Americas has old wounds and tries to bury them in the wrong way. The president stands by and says we are montoring while he signs off on destroying the laws. George Bush Sr. must be proud. His agenda has come with some success. We have become a divided nation full of bigots and war mongers. Let the poor fight the battles and pay them little and tax them much. Black History Month is not the issue we need a president who can bring healing on the awful wounds of the Bush cheney era I don’t mean another Clinton. Why can’t we let Adrienne express her opinion. She’s obviously thought it out and believes she’s right. Now, without animosity why can’t we discuss all the facets of racial divisiveness in this country and how to try to correct it.
Like for instance St Patrick’s Day. It’s a day to go to the parade and get drunk. But it could be a day of Irish History. Do you know the Irish were considered the first slaves in this country? And do you know that if it weren’t for the Irish the Bible would never have survived in written form?
Now, if you’re Polish or Brazilian, or whatever, please contribute something you would like us to know about your heritage.

Black History month is about celebrating the “African” in us and not forgeting where we come from. Excuse me if you feel excluded in the celebration but isn’t the point to educate you so you would learn.
As for the other minorities here please have some respect, Blacks suffered so you would have a voice in America.
Incidently, we don’t want a hand out. We want what is owed to us. We “worked hard” for free for 400 years.
