OlderAdrianne Curry: “Boycott Black History Month!”
The original America’s Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry is speaking out against Black History Month and cable network BET (Black Entertainment Television) on her MySpace. The 25-year-old reality TV star is married to Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch. Leave your thoughts on her rant in the comments section! Here’s Adrianne’s post:
“This is gonna be hard guys. I LOVE the comedians on BET. I also LOVE the fact that they play my favorite show of all time, In Living Color. However, I do not believe in seperating ANY RACE in America. WE ARE AMERICANS! How dare we have Black History Month! In my eyes, the Native Americans deserve it MUCH more, seeing how we destroyed their ENTIRE SOCIETY. There are hardly any of them left! They also have been proven to have the WORST living conditions on their reservations. I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. One where we learn about EVERY race, ALL OF OUR LEADERS, EVERYONE! I think by having a month dedicated to one race, and not one for any other, is RACIST. Every fund set up to only help people of one race is SICK and RACIST.

Yes, I get it. Black people were slaves here once. You know what? That does suck some major balls, however, it is time to move the f*** on. Do we hear the Jews crying that they were made slaves for thousands of years? Do we hear them whine that they should OWN the pyramids in Egypt because THEY broke their backs making them? Do we hear them b**** and moan about Hitler, etc? (my hubby is a Jew)Nope, we dont. It’s time for us to UNITE AS ONE. I do not think that singling out one race, giving one race opportunities to go to college (I know a TON of poor white.asian, indian, american indian, etc etc that could use that too!), giving one race the EXCUSE to blame things on others for being whatever nationality they are, is a good way at making sure we NEVER kill racism.
I am over this s***. WE ALL CAME FROM ONE BLACK WOMAN FROM AFRICA, THAT is our EVE! It has been proven by science, and I stand by it. If any other race had a chanel dedicated to just them, we would think it was racist. If any other race demanded a month be set aside for ONLY them, they would be considered racist. I am NOT living by this double standard any longer.
Think I am racist? I am not. I know what racism is. I dated a guy named “Justin” in Junior high. Nothing serious, but I really liked him. He was the blackest of black…BEAUTIFUL skin, kinda like Alex Wek’s. He was handsome, and athletic, etc. I was called a nigger lover. But you know what? I was called that by a whole 2 people out of a school with HUNDREDS of students. THAT is why I am NOT buying this racist s*** anymore. Let us teach or children that there is NO DIFFERENCE! We are all human. I hope one day aliens land and try to kill us. Maybe THEN we would finally realize that WE are ONE.
So, I will no longer tune into BET. This is going to suck, but I do NOT like the idea of having a chanel for only 1 race. In the year 2007 in a country that is supposed to be the most advanced and equal. This is unexceptable! I will also no longer acknowledge Black History Month. Instead, I will see it the way that Morgan Freeman does (I have the quote at the bottom of my last blog on Obama/jesseJackson, and OJ). AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH! I will read/watch/and learn about ALL the people who made a difference in this country.
I am asking you ALL to join me. Black, White, Indian, Asian, Russian, Australian, etc etc…..lets be AMERICANS together! What happened to the African American community was AMERICAN HISTORY, not BLACK HISTORY. If you want to celebrate in a way that excludes others and singles one race out, count me the f*** out! I am soooo proud to be an American. I am SO proud that I have friends of every race, and none of us see each other as anything but what we are..people. Lets change Black History Month to 2 months of AMERICAN HISTORY. We will still learn about all the black leaders and people who made a difference….just not with the racist name of “Black History Month”. It has to start somewhere. I am going to do my part in making sure we are all treated EQUAL in a country that CLAIMS we are. NO MORE SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ANYONE WITH ANYTHING!
It will never happen. At least, that is what many of you will say…FINE! My number one priority here is being able to die and know that I stood up for what I believed in, and that I did not add to the SEPERATION OF AMERICANS!! I love my country, I love the people in it. I love our history, good and bad. We should LEARN from it,not dwell in it and not move forward. That’s why I am done with this s***. You are all my brothers and sisters…..even if I think you suck ; ) As Bono said, “One life, with each other..sisters…brothers!”
Note:: Opinions are like a**holes, everyone…we all have em! Please, respect each other here…listen…even if you dont agree. No name calling. I have a confession…The topic here (black history month/BET) is not what my message was about… I just knew it would get a lot more attention if I used it as an example. My message is to BECOME ONE. AMERICANS, celebrate things as such, not label them this or that…Black History month should NOT go away…but it should have it’s name changed to AMERICAN HISTORY..and be made into a few months…to teach us EVERYTHING about our history…not just focus on one race. Yep, I have a hippie view of the world, and I dont care!! I am not saying to stop celebrating and remebering our history, good or bad. I AGREE that we need to teach MORE on american history concerning what we teach during “black History month”. I am not writing this to take away anything from anyone…we need MORE OF IT, but WITHOUT the race title!!!!

We have hispanic culture month, black history month, BET… if we had European history month where we read Shakespeare and ate croissants, people would flip their lids. She has a valid point. Black History Month isn’t about racial equality, it’s about getting to be -more- equal.
keep the black history month. there’s nothing bad about it. we shouldn’t forget things that happened in history and the black history month helps to remember that.
but please, stop acting like the black race was the only one that has suffered in history. remember Jewish? and white people too have suffered just because of what their language is. you all keep yelling about learning history - open a book of European history and read if for once. you’re not the only ones who have been hurt in the past. i am from eastern europe, believe me, i know what i’m talking about.
if you want to be equal, do not ask for special treatment. BE EQUAL.
celebrate all races? ok, let’s have asian history month, hispanic history month etc… and also WHITE history month. no? why is it acceptable to discriminate white people?

Black History month is about celebrating the “African” in us and not forgeting where we come from. Excuse me if you feel excluded in the celebration but isn’t the point to educate you so you would learn.
As for the other minorities here please have some respect, Blacks suffered so you would have a voice in America.
Incidently, we don’t want a hand out. We want what is owed to us. We “worked hard” for free for 400 years.

You were sold out by your own countrymen. Blame Africa. The first European exploreres into Africa kept getting approached to buy slaves and they didn’t want any. It was only when the colonies were opening up that they decided to take the Africans up on their offer. They wanted to grow rice, and West Africans knew how to grow rice. Native Americans didn’t know rice culture.
And this 400 years number that gets bandies around constantly is an exaggeration. Slavery wasn’t allowed in most Southern states until after 1750. That’s only 110 years.
And don’t quote Malcolm X. Even he renounced his own propaganda before the Nation of Islam had him killed for speaking out about how people should not hate each other.

Black Americans know that they are American, but they also know that rascism is still alive and well in this country. Racism isn’t lynchings and threats anymore. It isn’t the KKK. It isn’t calling someone a “****** lover” or other slurs. It goes deeper than that. It’s being followed in a department store because someone thinks you’re gonna steal something. It’s being shot at and killed on suspicion of having a gun when it really is a candy bar. It’s a woman clutching her purse when a black man come within 10 feet of her person. It’s being barred from being promoted after years of dedicated hard work. Try going to school Adrianne.

There are many months that celebrate different ethnic backgrounds; not just African Americans. And there is White Entertainment Television; every other channel besides BET! When you’re in China you don’t order Chinese food; you just order food. If African Americans and other races were included on most mainstream shows (not talking about the token) we wouldn’t need our own.

You don’t even know me. To begin with I’m hispanic, and I’ve pretty much heard **** from both sides, whites and blacks. I’ve had a so called black friend of mine calling me a wetback and asking me how I jump the border cause for some reason he thought he was being funny in front of a lot of people (mostly blacks) and they all thought it was funny and laugh about it but if I was to called him the N word I’m pretty sure everyone would’ve had said something to me or even do something about it. And knowing black people doesn’t mean **** when it comes to being a racist or not, and I agree with you but at the same time you get to know more about them and how they are. And for what I’ve seen and know they always try to play the victim and most of the time they like to pull the race card. I mean come on I come from a ****** place with ****** people but I still manage to make it through while many of them who are still in the gutter like to blame it on society for how their lives turn out. If they got money for drugs then they have money for other things that can improve their lives.
It’s funny though how you attack me but don’t mention **** about BET. So tell me would you be ok if another network was to be called WHITE Entertainment Television? Would you be ok if we dedicate other months for other races? or just combined them all into one which is a whole lot better?
Here’s my point, we all need to get along if we want to make this world a better place. We have to find ways to better ourselves and help other people regardless about their race but we can’t be doing everything for them. This is why Welfare is such a joke, I’ve seen how many people take advantage of this system, while I’m having to work 40+ hours a week and paying $300+ a week on taxes someone else is at home sitting and watching or playing games all day living the same kind of life as me but without having to spend an hour at work cause they’re gettting free money.
And please don’t call me a ****, when you start insulting someone it means that you’re desperate and can’t find another way to prove your point and that’s if you have one to begin with.
I agree with her every single race has had their own suffering and I agree that one month should not be dedicated to a race. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with celebrating a day for a race because what race doesn’t have their own day in which they celebrate.

White people are so dumb and clueless when it comes to race. Ugh, slavery in America was really not as long ago as people try to make it seem. I am only a third generation away from slavery, and Jim Crow was only a few decades ago. There are still many black people stuck in the GHETTO as a reprocussion of slavery. Racism still exists in America, and true EQUALITY will never exist until we all look exactly the same!
Excuse me, but white people make themselves seem so damn greedy. Everything on television revolves around white people, we spend two years in school learning about European and U.S. history,they outnumber every other race in America, and they stilllll want “WET” and White History Month.
