You children do realize? That using cuss words, doesn’t make you an adult. An adult can get a job and apartment. They meet someone and get married and have children. They pay their bills on time and put food in the cupboards. Clothes on their and their children’s backs. Have one or two cars parked in front of their house. They usually work nine to five and pick up a paycheck. Or, go to college and have a career. They go on vacations, after earning vacation pay and time. They send their children to school and teach them to be responsible adults. They make house, car, and insurance payments. Plus, they pay taxes, and or capital gains and house and property tax.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with what she’s saying, I’ve read the 2 comments that she made, and some of the comments made by the readers here and on her MySpace, and honestly I don’t see the problem is or why it has generated such rage towards her comment…

I think she actually has a good point, and I say this maybe from a more objective point of view because I don’t live in the US anymore. I´ve traveled a lot, and I have never been in a country where racism is so palpable as it is in the United States.Racism starts when you signal someone else as “different”, even when you’re doing it presumably for the good reasons, the simple fact that you’re separating people, categorizing them, is racist, because by doing so, you’re denying that we are all equals. And I think that was her point, maybe with a bad example, but a valide point after all, because once you’ve live outside the US, and have seen that those categorizations are not often found in other countries, you realize why most americas are often called racists, no matter their colors or features.

People, people you all need to calm down. First of all one should not be degraded based on the level of education. Whether or not she graduated college she has the right to speak her mind, afterall, we have free speech in this country. Secondly, whether she was able to state her opinions properly or not, the bottom line is, she’s only stating that seperation should not exists between all americans, whether you are white, black, asian, hispanics or whatever the color of your skin is. In our country the seperation exists because we choose to divide our races. Why do we need to say someone is black african american, asian america, mexican american? Seriously, if you are born in the U.S. or have been naturalized then you are american and the United States is your country and home.Period.

It is naive to say “we are all the same under the skin” when racism is MIND SET. It is LEARNED, it is PASSED DOWN, and in many cases, it is ACCEPTABLE. Adrienne, and others, can say they want America to be united all they want but it does not change what this country was founded upon. The same way a house will fall apart if built on sand, America was founded off the backs of minorities who were torn down and abused, mentally, physically, sexually and emotionally to justify why whites treated us all like less than dogs.

If you are anti-racist, practice it and pass THAT down to your children and grandchildren, preach it and live it, but don’t make statements like the ignorant and naive ones Adrienne made, statements born from her white privilege (which she was because if she had gone further in her modeling career, she would have received many, many, many more assignments and opportunities than minority models–a problem that was why Tyra founded ANTM!!), a privilege that allows her to walk into a store and not be tailed or given a snooty look. A privilege that allows her husband to drive practically anywhere he chooses without fear of police pulling him over because he is black or latino. A privilege that allows her to live in a penthouse and not assumed to be the maid by the doorman. A privilege that allows all of the white Presidential candidates to be treated like men and not like a “black candidate” the way Barack Obama is.

My main issue with her is that she stirred to the pot of “who had it worse”, which is a common tactic of bigots, whether they are aware of it or not (which she doesn’t seem to be considering the idiotic statement that she dated a black guy and two black girls e.e).
