Yeah, right. First of all Angelina didn’t need to ride brads coattails of stardom. the woman is hollywood royalty. remember her daddy? the great actor Jon Voight. Gmab! she was born into it. on the other hand brad needed her to get all this charity stuff done, he wouldn’t be doing half the stuff he’s doing if he didn’t have the Angie connection. I just saw the film, and I have to say it was an awe-inspiring experience. The film does require some level of above average patience since it moves at a fairly leisure and slow pace, so this isn’t exactly for your average film goer. Anyhow, the film features an immensly compelling narrative, with great breadth and vision, that at the end feels like an epic tragedy. This film while containing some action one would expect in a western, is prominently a psychological character study. The visuals are absolutely breathtaking. I cannot say enough about the beauty of the cinematography by Roger Deakins and crew in this film, with elaborate shots of various landscapes and the sky. The musical score of the film is beautiful, yet at times chilling with how it is blended into the narrative. The performances by Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck are terrific, as well as the supporting cast, but the two leads carry the film, with very layered, complex performances. Its great to see Brad Pitt deliver an excellent performance in a serious, ambitious film, as lately things that are absolutely irrelevant to his craft and to anybody besides him have overshadowed his public persona. And Casey Affleck is definitely “here” with a great performance in a lead role. Andrew Dominik shows some serious artistic poise and vision with this masterfully and meticulously crafted film, especially for his second film. And along with what I thought was the terrific,albeit significantly different in tone and storytelling, “3:10 to Yuma”, its great to see two excellent westerns this year, as they have long been obscure. So I highly recommend for anybody who appreciates high caliber films to check out this one. 9.5/10

I honestly cannot say enough good things about this movie. Come Oscar season it should be nominated for every category there is.

The acting in this film is probably the best anyone will see all year. Casey Affleck is amazing as is Pitt, Rockwell, and every other actor in the film. The pacing of this movie is spot on, and the cinematography is absolutely stunning. The music fits very well and the story is as interesting as they get. The dialog in this is the best I have heard all year. This director is truly amazing. I do not want to give anything away so just see it.

For those of you who think this movie is boring, well then you’re just immature and have no patience. This movie is not for 16 year old boys and girls of all ages, it is for people who truly appreciate great cinema.

the actual James family is giving it a positive review, I’d have to say that’s pretty impressive!

According to the review on their website, the movie is an excellent testament to the story of Jesse James’ life. This is what they said about Brad in the role of Jesse James:

“Brad Pitt has stripped away the myth. He stripped away the legend and the lore. He stripped away the western and all its gratuitous violence.

Big thank you LG!! Since this passed Friday they use a private entrance to get in the LF private school. That’s why we are not seeing pictures of them taking Madd to school everyday like before. It’s the first time since Friday a pap git a glimpse of them. Good for them. Even if the paps will take pictures they have to keep a distance just like in the video. I heard George on the news saying he’s in trouble with the studio producing Burt After Reading. Supposedly there’s a clause (for insurance purposes) in the contract which states against doing things risky like riding a bike. He said he was not supposed to be doing that. The crash made headlines all over so he could’nt hide that.

I don’t think that Brad got a puppy. If it was for the kids, specifically Maddox, then why would it be on set? Since Angelina is at home with the other children, it would make sense to have the dog there, in order for the kids to get used to him/her and bond with him/her? And the possibility of Maddox and Brad and/or Angelina taking him/her out for a walk, in NYC, with all of the paps… I just don’t see it.

If they were in NOLA, I would be more inclined to believe it. Of course, I could be wrong.

I wouldn’t be attracted by a man who just has the looks and nothing else besides that. Although Brad is HAWT his looks wasn’t the only thing that made me a fan. First of all I loved him as an actor. And then I really liked that he was extremely humble for a man in his success.He is very gentle. I love his deep voice and the way he walks. And he also can be really really funny!!!

To cut a long story short I love his attitude.

As for Clooney he dosen’t interest me or facinates me the way Brad does in any way but I really like him as an actor and director. I find him really congenial.

I agree with you 100%, but there are some young folks posting here, and for young folks it usually is all about the looks. I think Brad looks a bajillion times better now than he did when he was with X. He was just a pretty boy then with another pretty face, but now his face has some character in it. I have to tell you guys something. There’s a old Hollywood story that said actor Clark Gable had fans ranging from young girls to old men. Very rare. There also the famous movie clip of and just turned teen Judy Garland singing “Dear Mr.Gable” to a picture of him she’s holding. Her crush on him was absolute. As old as he was, little girls just loved him.

Fast forward to yesterday. There were a few young girls standing among us old folks at the fan area. Let me tell you, that they didn’t stop cackling since the minute they arrived. I’ve never in my life heard giggles like that and I have young girls in my family. They could not stop talking/giggling/heehawing about George Clooney. This is not the first time very young girls are known to crush on Mr. Clooney. He’s having the same reaction that Clark Gable had on the young ones. It’s that unknown X factor. Some can’t stand him, little girls hee hee and haw haw at the mention of his name. Go figure.

I am inclined though to think that the puppy is maybe in the movie - the girl holding the leash looks more like she is working on the movie (walkie talkie and papers etc. on her) than a P.A. Will be interesting to see if this story proves to be true or not… it would be nice for them to have a dog!

UK’s diplomacy chief vows new approach

BOURNEMOUTH, England - Britain’s new foreign policy chief promised a shift in how the country approaches international relations Tuesday, citing humbling lessons of the Iraq war and signaling a fresh path from that of his graying predecessors.

David Miliband, the first Cabinet minister to write an online blog and one of the youngest at 42, told the annual conference of his Labour Party that he wants to keep talking with adversaries such as Iran, to empathize with Muslims and to rid his department of stodgy aura.

He is trying to recruit American actress Angelina Jolie — a United Nations human rights ambassador — to add gloss and glamour to a campaign meant to engage people on foreign policy issues.

A regular on the video-sharing site YouTube, Miliband also hopes to enlist a younger generation of lawmakers to strike a softer tone when confronting global terrorism and climate change.

It is time to learn from mistakes of the past, Miliband told the conference. “We have to stop and think. The lesson is, it’s not good enough to have good intentions.”

Speaking after an address by Prime Minister Gordon Brown that was almost entirely focused on domestic policy, Miliband said London and Washington must accept that the Iraq war has tarnished their reputations.

“The lesson is that while there are military victories, there is never a military solution,” he said, giving a first speech to the party in his new role and calling the unpopular Iraq war “divisive in our party and in our country.”

It’s too early to tell whether Miliband wants to take any radical new directions on policy issues themselves, such as pushing for fewer troops in Iran and Afghanistan or taking a stronger stand against Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, but it’s clear he envisions a new manner.

Miliband says he wants to listen more — even to those considered extremists by some — and talk less.

His predecessors rarely broke ranks from the Labour Party or government.

Former Foreign Secretary Jack Straw only gently pressed Tony Blair for not criticizing Israel during the war in Lebanon last year. Margaret Beckett, who Miliband succeeded, was barely visible in Blair’s last days, toeing the government line.

Both rattled leaders in the Muslim community. When he became justice secretary after his diplomatic post, Straw spoke out against the head-to-toe black veils worn by some Muslim women. Beckett defended the knighting of Salman Rushdie, author of “The Satanic Verses,” a book that angered many Muslims and earned him death threats from Islamic extremists.

Miliband is known for opening dialogue and voicing opinions that may break from government spin.

He raised concerns over the Iraq war with Blair, although he voted to authorize British involvement in the 2003 invasion. He also sparred with Blair over his refusal to call for an immediate Israeli cease-fire during the war with Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon.

Miliband has praised the Islamic militants of Hamas for the release of a British journalist kidnapped in Gaza and he carefully weighed his message Tuesday to Iran as it rejects international pressure to curb its nuclear program as ordered by the U.N. Security Council.

“Who says in 10 years time there can’t be a democratic and respected Iran, cooperating with us and the international community against global terrorism,” Miliband said.

The West should attempt to understand young Muslims who fear that the United States and its allies are “seeking not to empower them, but to dominate them,” he added.

As Britain’s first blogging Cabinet minister, Miliband is hoping to meet this week in New York with Jolie and put the videotape of the meeting on his blog.

He also is launching a new Foreign Office Web site Wednesday, saying the department’s mentality has been stuck in the age of the telegram and must embrace the era of the Internet.

He hopes Jolie — known for her work with refugees worldwide — will contribute to the Web site.

“The objective is to engage the audience on foreign policy issues and as such a recognizable figure she could certainly help accomplish that,” a Foreign Office spokesman said, speaking on condition of anonymity in accordance with ministry policy.

Officials want ambassadors, diplomats and the public to post videos, pictures about foreign policy.

Richard Dalton, a former British ambassador to Iran and Libya, said the idea will open up diplomacy, but warned that Miliband might not agree with the opinions of every ambassador.

“I hope they’ve thought through that angle, that if the ambassadors are going to use the new freedom they’ve got, they’re not going to be hauled over the coals if they say something which a minister wouldn’t have said,” Dalton said.

Negotiations with Iraq’s neighbors to reconcile the Sunni and Shiite populations would “prevent that conflict first fragmenting the country and then spreading like a contagion across the Middle East,” Miliband said.

He did not specify whether Iran should be included in the peace talks.

“The Iraq war was divisive in our party and in our country,” he said. “But whatever the rights and wrongs, and there have been both, we’ve got to focus on the future.”

Since taking his post in July, Miliband has promoted delicate diplomacy, carefully weighing his message to Iran and praising Hamas over the release of a British reporter kidnapped in Gaza.

Troll or not…I agree 100%! I think Porgie may actually annoy me more than X…and that’s sayin’ sumpin’! I read a post on one of the other threads where someone said that Brad and Porgie were “equally famous” and I’ll call bullshit on that any day of the week. Even Porgie acknowledges that as soon a people see Brad in the same room they abandon him and flock to Brad. The idiot in the post went on to say that Porgie’s movies are equally successful - especially internationally. Once again, I disagree. Porgie’s had a few movies that have done well - the Ocean series, that horrid Batman flick and The Perfect Storm. Other than that? Nobody goes to see a Porgie flick. He’s like X - for someone who was supposedly hugely popular on TV his fans don’t shell out the bucks to see him in the theater.

In a nutshell…this is why Porgie is jealous of Brad, but continues to work with him. If it weren’t for his Oceans flicks with Brad the man would have exactly 3 movies to his credit that had earned over $100MIL worldwide with him as the PRIMARY LEAD ACTOR, ie, his presence in the movie put butts in the seats - Batman & Robin, The Perfect Storm and Intolerable Cruelty (which only made $35MIL in the US, but did nearly $74MIL worldwide) - and I prolly shouldn’t count the Batman flick because the franchise was hot at the time and even the Val Kilmer Batman movie made money! I am not counting the SpyKids movies because as far as I know he’s got a bit part in those flicks.

The same gossip queen who predicted that by this time Brad and Angie would be over. BANGKOK: Tens of thousands of Buddhist monks and supporters defied a government warning Tuesday in Myanmar and returned to the streets for an eighth day of peaceful antigovernment protests.

They faced a more ominous situation than protesters have seen over a month of demonstrations that were provoked by a sharp fuel price increase in mid-August and have swelled into a huge outpouring that has filled the streets of several cities.

For the first time since protests began on Aug. 19, the government began to issue warnings and to move security forces into positions in Yangon, the largest city and former capital. Witnesses said they saw truckloads of soldiers apparently moving into position in Yangon, although the day’s protests dispersed without incident as evening fell.

Official vehicles patrolled the streets calling on monks to return to their temples, inserting a government presence into streets that had been largely given over to huge waves of protesters. “People are not to follow, encourage or take part in these marches,” the announcements said. “Action will be taken against those who violate this order.”

Diplomats in Yangon said uniformed security personnel were moving discreetly into the city, where they had not been visible in past days. According to one report, five army trucks, each capable of carrying 50 soldiers, were parked less than a kilometer from City Hall and the Sule Pagoda, which has been one gathering place for demonstrators.

The plaza between the two buildings was the scene of the first killings in 1988, when the government crushed a similar pro-democracy protest at the cost of as many as 3,000 lives.

Reuters reported that an ethnic militia that has been fighting a decades-long guerrilla war said that government troops had been withdrawn from their remote jungle area.

“The government has ordered the 22nd Division troops to pull out of Karen State and return to Yangon,” Colonel Nerda Mya of the Karen National Union told the news agency. “We believe the troops will be used as in 1988.”

Troops from remote areas, unfamiliar with current events in the big cities, were deployed at that time in the killings of civilians.

There were also concerns that the government might use provocateurs to stir violence and justify a crackdown, as it did in 1988. The Burma Campaign UK said its sources had reported the junta ordering large numbers of maroon monastic robes and telling soldiers to shave their heads, possibly to infiltrate the monks.

Soe Aung, a spokesman for the National Council of the Union of Burma, a coalition of opposition groups based in Thailand, assessed the position of the Burmese junta.

“They are in a difficult situation,” he said. “Can their troops be relied on when the situation becomes critical? What happened in 1988 was that they called in troops from remote areas and then staged unrest and told the soldiers they were followers of the Communist Party of Burma.”

According to reports from inside Myanmar, which is mostly closed to foreign reporters, the cheers and the vigor of the day’s demonstrations were as strong as ever, but with a new sense of trepidation over the possibility of a violent crackdown.

Some of the monks reportedly carried small banners that summarized the grievances of the public: “Sufficiency in food, clothing and shelter, national reconciliation, freedom for all political prisoners.”

The government-controlled press broke its silence Tuesday morning on the week of protests by monks and their supporters, warning them to go home. On Monday the head of the official Buddhist organization, the Sangha, directed monks to confine themselves to learning and propagating the faith. It said young monks were being “compelled by a group of destructive elements within and without to break the law,” according to The New Light of Myanmar, an official newspaper.

It also quoted the religious affairs minister, Brigadier General Thura Myint Maung, as saying that protests by monks had also spread to cities like Mandalay, Hinthada and Monywa in 7 of the 14 states and divisions.

In televised comments Monday night, he told religious leaders to restrain the protesting monks or face unspecified action against them by the government. The minister was quoted by the newspaper as saying these “destructive elements” included the political party led by Aung San Suu Kyi, the democracy advocate who is being held under house arrest; remnants of the now-defunct Communist Party; and some foreign radio stations.

“The authorities concerned are handling the current situation with care and the least mistakes,” he said.

Foreign governments and human rights groups warned of possible bloodshed. “The regime has a long history of violent reactions to peaceful demonstrations,” Gareth Evans, head of the International Crisis Group, said in a statement.

“If serious loss of life is to be averted, those UN members with influence over the government are going to have to come together fast,” he said in an allusion to China, Russia and India.

China, the nation with the most influence over Myanmar because of its trade and economic ties, repeated its public stance of noninterference in Myanmar’s internal affairs Tuesday.

It seems that there is a segment that hates the fact that Brad is with Angie, not just tabloids or jen fans. Angie is gaining power, she is on the foreign council, sharing the stage with Clinton, and just today it was announced that she will meet with this British dude. I would not be suprised if there are powerful peeps that would want this couple to break up.

I also hope all remains peaceful, but a dictatorship uses whatever means it has to stay in power. So far it has been peaceful because the monks are leading the call for change. But going by past history there will be a crackdown of some sort.
