Angelina Jolie announces a significant $148 million initiative to help educate children in conflict areas at the Clinton Global Initiative on Wednesday in New York City — the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.

“Education can transform the lives of children in conflict, giving them the tools to create a better future for their families and their nations,” explained Angie, who co-chairs the Education Partnership with Gene Sperling, Director of the Center for Universal Education at the Council on Foreign Relations. “This Partnership is putting words into action,” Angie explained, “and demonstrating that even in the most difficult circumstances, every child can and should have a chance to learn.”

The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict will include:

– 18 Commitments from 19 World Renowned Organizations and Individuals in 15 Countries
– Commitments to improve educational opportunities for 1+ million conflict-affected children including (1) 350,000 out-of-school children in conflict-affected regions to be given an opportunity to attend school and (2) Improve the learning environment, safety, materials and teacher quality of another 690,0000 children in conflict affected regions
– The commitments will assist 200,000 Iraqi refugee children and aid than 300,000 children affected by the Darfur genocide.

I am out and about campaigning right now so if someone has posted this already I apologize. I am not up to speed on everyone’s comments.

What an amazing woman!I’m proud to be her fan more and more each day.
I pay my respect to this wonderful lady! She should be an example for all of us.
Days like this,I completely understand what she means when she says that she doesn’t care what people write, say or think about her. She’s a woman that knows that life is too short not to live it the way she wants to and it’s too important not to try to leave something good behind her!
Let all the others spend their energy and time talking about her. She’s sooo beyond that!

Jolie-Pitts fans… IGNORE the Haters!! I mean, don’t you guys realize that the Haters are losing their SH*T, because their FUGLY Idol cannot compete with Angelina!! Yes, Angelina surpass Jennifer in BEAUTY, INTELLIGENCE, COMPASSION etc, etc., so the Haters are ANGRY for this and to make themselves feel better… they write HORRIBLE things about Angelina!! But it doesn’t matter what stupid things they write; because Angelina is ALWAYS going to be BETTER than Jennifer!! So **IGNORE** the Haters!!

Fug Face Man!ston @ 09/27/2007 at 1:05 pm

Well, it was fun being in this Jolie-Pitt thread…but i have to go; so have a wonderful day Jolie-Pitts fans!!

And don’t forget to *****IGNORE***** the Haters!!!

gossip-girl,
YOUR THEORY DOESN’T APPLY TO EVERYONE YOU WOULD CONSIDER A “HATER”. I DON’T HATE BRANGELINA. HOWEVER, I DON’T IDOLIZE THEM EITHER AND SO MANY HERE WOULD PUT ME IN THE “HATER” CATEGORY. I ALSO DO NOT IDOLIZE JENNIFER ANNISTON. SHE ACTUALLY TENDS TO GET ON MY NERVES. ANGELINA IS OF COURSE MORE ATTRACTIVE THEN HER. SO THERE IS A MIDDLE GROUND. IT’S NOT ALL OR NOTHING.

PLEASE– WE SHALL IGNORE ALL IGNORANT INSULTS AND NOT FALL TO THEIR STANDANDS. THERE IS NO REASON TO BRING UP J.A.’S NAME. THAT NAME SHOULD NOT BE HERE AT ALL. WE SHOULD NOT WASTE OUR TIME AND ENERGY ON THIS.

GREAT ARTICLE - REFUGEE CRISI @ 09/27/2007 at 1:20 pm

By SAMANTHA POWER
Thu Sep 27, 4:15 AM ET

The numbers are so staggering that they are hard to process mentally and impossible to process logistically: each month some 60,000 Iraqis are voting with their feet against the surge of U.S. forces by fleeing their homes. Since the invasion, more than 2.5 million Iraqis have left for neighboring countries, while 2.2 million have been forcibly displaced within Iraq - too poor to escape the country or blocked from transitioning through more peaceful provinces, which in recent months have erected checkpoints to keep them out. To put it in stark historical terms: the war has created the largest refugee crisis in the Middle East since the displacement of the Palestinians in 1948.

Here is what it looks like on the ground: in two short years, a million Iraqi refugees have poured into Syria, a country of 19 million. In U.S.-population terms, this would be the equivalent of 15 million Iraqis arriving on our shores. Overwhelmed by the deluge, Syria has said it will begin requiring visas for Iraqis next month, the practical equivalent of shutting its doors, while Jordan, which has admitted 750,000 Iraqis, closed most of its border crossings earlier this year.

Despite all this, the U.S. debate about withdrawal from Iraq seems remarkably indifferent to those whose lives have been upended. The Bush Administration talks of staying the course without expending nearly enough political or financial capital to mitigate the humanitarian catastrophe that it pretends does not exist. Many advocates of withdrawal point to the humanitarian disaster as a ground for leaving without addressing how worse suffering might be averted.

Thus far, the American discussion of the refugee crisis has focused on the paltry number of Iraqis the U.S. has let in. Although the U.S. was the lead architect of the invasion, only 535 Iraqis were granted entry last year. Sweden, which opposed the war, took in 8,950. Ironically, in 2000, three years before the war, the U.S. admitted 3,145 Iraqis, whereas fewer than 1,700 Iraqis have been resettled on American soil in the four years since.

The situation has grown so desperate that even our mild-mannered ambassador, Ryan Crocker, sent a harsh cable to the State Department on Sept. 7, titled “Iraqi refugee processing: Can we speed it up?” He complained of the endless “bottlenecks” delaying entry even for those Iraqis who had risked their lives working for U.S. forces. Crocker pleaded with immigration and Homeland Security officials to fast-track the screening process so the State Department’s recommended 7,000 asylum slots could be filled.

But while expeditious review and expanded quotas are urgently needed, they will not affect the welfare of the several million Iraqis who have lost their homes and their livelihoods. If the Administration is to ease the toll on Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan and Syria and persuade them to welcome Iraqis in need, it must extend massive assistance to those governments to help fund shelter, food, sanitation, health care and transportation for arriving Iraqis. Among the 200,000 Iraqi children who have fled to Jordan, only 20,000 started school in the past year, and 6,000 of them dropped out. As the Israeli-Palestinian conflict should have taught us, the grievances of refugees may start as humanitarian concerns, but they quickly become security problems.

President George W. Bush is in denial about the refugee crisis. He claimed this month that “ordinary life is beginning to return” and warned that with a U.S. departure, “Iraq could face a humanitarian nightmare.” But he has refused to deal with the nightmare already under way. It is as if he fears doing so would mean conceding the costs of the U.S. invasion and would undermine his arguments for staying. As he argues that we have a moral responsibility to Iraqis, it would be inconvenient for him to draw attention to how we have shirked that responsibility.

In addition, if the President were actually to insist that the U.S. and its allies resettle Iraqi refugees in earnest, he would be making it that much harder for an educated, moderate Iraqi middle class to reconstitute itself. How would Iraq “unleash the talent of its people and be an anchor of stability in the region,” as Bush promised, if its doctors were practicing medicine in Detroit and its English speakers were in Langley, Va., translating Arab press reports for the CIA?

The brain drain is a legitimate concern, but the welfare of Iraqis fleeing for their lives cannot be held hostage to Bush’s romantic dreams for a “free Iraq.” The U.S. lost the war in Iraq. At the heart of the debacle in Iraq has been the repeated failure to deliver a more secure life for Iraqis. It is long past time that we stop simply debating the “fate of Iraq” and start addressing the fate of Iraqis.

:D Elisabeth Hasselback just said on the view “Angelina Jolie has won the hearts and respect of the world because she has committed her life to this (humanitarian work)”.

They’re talking about Parisite going to Rwanda and basically saying that she will really have to prove herself if she ever hopes to be even close to in the same league as Angie.

I personally don’t think that Parisite will ever be comparable to Angelina but good for her for trying to do something (IF it is sincere).

It is funny, yesterday they neded publicity and we saw their photo while they were droping and picking up Mad from school.but now that they don`t need it they stop calling papz to take their photos.their actions are hilarious and just show how much they are media w****.but their stupid fans can`t get it.

what's your point? @ 09/27/2007 at 1:21 pm

ANGELINA IS SO ENTRENCHED IN HER VISION OF HERSELF THAT SHE ACTUALLY BELIEVES THAT SHE IS BEING ALTRUISTIC IN HER ACTIONS. SHE DOESN’T SEEM TO REALIZE THAT SHE IS SIMULTANIOUSLY BASKING IN ALL THE ATTENTION SHE, HERSELF, IS RECEIVING. SHE WISHES TO SEE HERSELF AS A SAINT AND MARTYR. SHE IS ATTEMPTING TO ACHIEVE THIS VISION AS A WAY TO DO PENANCE FOR HER MANY SINS. SHE IS TRYING TO CONVINCE NOT JUST HERSELF BUT ALL OTHERS WHO WITNESS HER.

Read your two posts above ge, what does that tell you? Look yourself in the mirror and if you don’t see any smear on your face, then you can judge Angelina. Are you or anyone else here that are bashing Angelina and Brad, do not have any sin at all? Come’on, did the National Enquirer and National Ledger sent you to this thread as part of their espionage, to work as their spy since graduating from the National Ledger’s school for the dumbs? What’s your argument?

trolls and haters are losing their ****. They cannot accept the fact that the formerly HW bad girl is now A UN Goodwill Ambassador, member of prestigious Council on Foreign Relations, is always invited to all important functions of United Nations, rub elbows with world leaders and her opinion about the flight of refugees are given importance . .. i love it ..GO ANGIE you are an inspiration to your fans all over the world. LOVE, LOVE YOU ANGIE ..TROLLS/HATERS deal with that.

aMERICA,
YOU MAY HAVE SERIOUS ISSUES THAT NEED ADDRESSING. WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE JENNIFER ANNISTON (OR J.A. AS YOU REFER TO HER)IS EVIL? SHE IS JUST ANOTHER HUMAN BEING…THE SAME AS ALL OTHERS. ALSO, YOU ARE NOT FOLLOWING THE VERY QUOTE YOU REFER TO WITH YOUR ATTEMPT TO CRITICIZE ME. HOW CAN ANYONE TAKE YOU SERIOUSLY WHEN YOU CANNOT PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH?

Uh hello, who the flip are you to speak for Angie and tell us what she is thinking, feeling and what her motives are. You are so flipping delusional if you think for a moment that what you said there is true. She is just going about doing what she saw as the RIGHT THING TO DO in her life while everyone speculates.

You need to get your head checked if you think you can walk in here and try and tell us what she is thinking.

pink_driven joliepitt @ 09/27/2007 at 1:28 pm

Missouri fan, prayers and loving thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time. May you find comfort in God’s loving embrace.

what’s your point?,
I HAVE NOT COMMITTED AN ACT OF DOUBLE SPEAK. I CAN SEE PEOPLE AND SITUATIONS FOR WHAT THEY ARE. ANGELINA IS A HUMAN BEING WITH FAULTS AS WE ALL ARE. I DO NOT HATE HER FOR THESE FAULTS ANY MORE THEN I WOULD HATE MYSELF. AS I ACKNOWLEDGE ALL PEOPLE’S FAULTS, I KNOW THAT NO ONE IS PERFECT. MANY FANS DO SEE HER AS PERFECT AND SEEM TO REVILE ANYONE WHO DOESN’T…..QUITE VICIOUSLY SOMETIMES, MIGHT I ADD.

NOW WE understand you are one unhappy Jen`s fan who are angry with some of posts in her thread who make fun of her.

honey it is your fault that you think X is hated only by jp`s fan. actually many people don`t like her ,because of her face(I`m not but you know they are celeb so people can make fun of their face),her career, her movies.

so all the people here don`t go there and talk about her, actually I never go to her thread because I don`t like to look at her face .so I don`t ,many royal fan here don`t go there and the people who go there are looking for revenge. because JJ is the best site for JP`s fan , and I actually think it is their rights to go to X thread and put their hates there after all the things that some sites like PH,DLISTED,FF are saying about jp .so why when this site is good with them they don`t do that.

so don`t bash Angelina just to defend your idol because they are not in the same category, they are way too far different people in every way.they are human yes but they have many difference even in human category.

COALHARBOURQT,
I WOULD NEVER DARE TO SPEAK FOR ANGELINA, OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER. HOWEVER, I AM NOT BLINDED BY VISUALS. I AM ABLE TO SEE BEYOND THE SURFACE TO QUESTION THE TRUE MEANING BEHIND HER ACTIONS. IT IS GOOD THE SHE IS HELPING OTHERS EVEN IF SHE ALSO IS BENEFITING FROM HER ACTIONS.

What good will come about Paris Hilton’s trip to Rwanda? Why is she going? She’s not sincere and will not be going with any official organization.

People keep associating anyone who does any hint of charity to Angelina? What’s up with that? Angelina has a position with the UN as a Goodwill Ambassador for the past six years. She’s done the grunt work and been a great asset to that program. I’m not knocking any celebrity who volunteers or lends their name for good causes but what Angelina is and has been doing is completely different.

COALHARBOURQT @ 09/27/2007 at 1:42 pm

ge - you are wrong - many of the fans here see that she is not perfect and is just human like the rest of us. We all know what her past included - however she is a changed woman and has been for YEARS. So you accomplish nothing by dredging up the past and having the gall to assume that you know what she is thinking or feeling. You want to dwell on the past rather than focus on the present and future, and the good that she and Brad are accomplishing.

I have a great idea - let’s get JJ to put up a thread on you, with your life story and all the mistakes you have made along the way, and let’s all show up every day and gossip about your life and mistakes instead of focusing on anything good and true that you might be doing today or intending to do in the future.

That is the point that people are trying to make - nothing is accomplished by dwelling on Angie’s past (or assuming that you know what she thinks). Just focus on the good you see before you and be the best person YOU CAN BE instead of criticizing others. Now do you get it?
