Angelina Jolie announces a significant $148 million initiative to help educate children in conflict areas at the Clinton Global Initiative on Wednesday in New York City — the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.

“Education can transform the lives of children in conflict, giving them the tools to create a better future for their families and their nations,” explained Angie, who co-chairs the Education Partnership with Gene Sperling, Director of the Center for Universal Education at the Council on Foreign Relations. “This Partnership is putting words into action,” Angie explained, “and demonstrating that even in the most difficult circumstances, every child can and should have a chance to learn.”

The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict will include:

– 18 Commitments from 19 World Renowned Organizations and Individuals in 15 Countries
– Commitments to improve educational opportunities for 1+ million conflict-affected children including (1) 350,000 out-of-school children in conflict-affected regions to be given an opportunity to attend school and (2) Improve the learning environment, safety, materials and teacher quality of another 690,0000 children in conflict affected regions
– The commitments will assist 200,000 Iraqi refugee children and aid than 300,000 children affected by the Darfur genocide.

2 JP threads earlier than this one has Brad’s pics at CGI. Did anyone notice that Angie said she dropped 3 kids off at school today…..which must mean Zee and Pax have some sort of pre-school, too, how cool.

WE LOVE YOU ANGIE; YOU’VE SUCH BIG HEART. GOD WILL BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ALWAYS.

She’s so compassionate . You can tell she really feels for the refugees she’s trying to help. I loved that line . ‘Their minds ‘, thats all they have. That was such a touching story .
She’s so wonderful wanting to help this boy to become a doctor !
Thank Goodness for the Clinton Global Initiative!!! She is the best UNHCR ambassodor there is and she is so respected by everyone on the panel . Personally ,this is political red carpet premier for me . Am going to watch the video again.

I am so disappointed that I cannot see Angie’s speech as I’m at work today.

If anybody can get it to youtube that would be so wonderful.
As I read the comments about Angie’s eloquence, and empathy, with all that she has seen on her UNHCR missions, I get all teary eyed as I’m always so in awe of her fiercesome spirit to help others, and I am, as always, so PROUD to be her fan.

Thanks Jared. Great job!

They’ve finished. How splendid.

Thank you sooooo much for that!! The story was really heartbreaking!! I can picture Angie narrating it. This boy could have so many οppotunities in his life to educate him self and be something. But his life pushes him to struggle and sell tissues to servive.

Congradulation to Brad and Angie for making great efforts to make this world a better place. And kuddos to everyone that follows the same path!!

I’m proud to be their fan!!

It was very informative panel. I thought it was great how AJ said that all the organizations on the panel were working together to help identify needs.

I just watched Angie and the panel discussions. All I can say is that I was very very impressed. She is a force to reckon. God bless her for all that she is doing to help.
