Angelina Jolie @ Clinton Global Initiative

Angelina Jolie announces a significant $148 million initiative to help educate children in conflict areas at the Clinton Global Initiative on Wednesday in New York City — the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.

“Education can transform the lives of children in conflict, giving them the tools to create a better future for their families and their nations,” explained Angie, who co-chairs the Education Partnership with Gene Sperling, Director of the Center for Universal Education at the Council on Foreign Relations. “This Partnership is putting words into action,” Angie explained, “and demonstrating that even in the most difficult circumstances, every child can and should have a chance to learn.”

The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict will include:

– 18 Commitments from 19 World Renowned Organizations and Individuals in 15 Countries
– Commitments to improve educational opportunities for 1+ million conflict-affected children including (1) 350,000 out-of-school children in conflict-affected regions to be given an opportunity to attend school and (2) Improve the learning environment, safety, materials and teacher quality of another 690,0000 children in conflict affected regions
– The commitments will assist 200,000 Iraqi refugee children and aid than 300,000 children affected by the Darfur genocide.

I missed some of her speech and I would like to watch it again. SOMEBODY PLEASE POST THE LINK IF YOU FIND THE VID.

# 124 Kate- I’m second motion on that…LOL

Just finished watching the plenary on education…all the speakers were engaging and so well informed.

Angelina was great. She fit right in even with the ‘big names and titles’ on the panel. She was professional and well versed, but also very personable. Good for her, must have been somewhat nervous wracking, but she didn’t show it :)

After watching the session I have to say that I feel utterly embarrassed for people who write for as well as buy into rag gossip. Angelina is much more than her tabloid portrayal, she’s intelligent, caring and dedicated to her family and to the issues she believes in. It’s sad that people intentionally choose to ignore these characteristics and instead prefer to live in tabloid LA - LA land and made judgments about her and her life based on these stories. As I said before they should be embarrassed, I’m embarrassed for them.

Zahra - I second that. MASHALLAH!

Marcheline must be smiling in heaven.

Damn she looks old and haggard for a supposed 32 year old.

133 Topaz - Hi Topaz, how are you? I was e-mailing JJ earlier about Angie, and he told me that he will post a new thread on her. So it’s not pure luck that I have, it was an inside connection… ;)

kick some ass @ 09/26/2007 at 7:21 pm

It’s so weird sometimes to see Angelina Jolie standing around with normal, every day looking people. She is insanely beautiful. It just becomes so much more striking out of the Hollywood context.

HI JARED, IS IT POSSIBLE TO SEE THE SPEECH OF ANGIE AND BRAD FROM CLINTON GLOBAL INITIATIVE. THANKS

Angelina always said she wants to be remembered as a humanitarian rather than as an actor. It’s nice to see she has her priorities straight.

the real tita @ 09/26/2007 at 7:25 pm

Angie was great! She held her own in that panel and you can just see the moderator was very impressed and very solicitous of her. Maybe now they’ll write something more positive about her at NYT. Also of Brad of course as they are partners in the JP Foundation.

She was up there as co-chair of the JP Foundation, as ambassador to the UNCHR, as a member of the CFR. Plus she’s an award winning actress to boot. She wore many hats today and she wore them all with style and class.

And just think, she’s one heck of a busy mother too.

Go Angie! Go JPs! Proud to be your fan!

#145 Dina#1 - I was sort of thinking the same thing - but also wanted to thank Bill Clinton for inviting Angie and Brad to the sessions and asking them to speak. People like Bill Clinton need to know that Angie and Brad are truly appreciated for their work and that people want to see them speaking out more and more. If they are made aware that people are paying more attention to an event like the CGI Annual Meeting because of their attendance, then they will be invited back and asked to speak at more events.

And of course the other way we can all support the work that Angie and Brad are doing is by continuing to support the organizations that they do.

Engaging TROLLS is not in the fans agenda today.

I THINK SHE AND THE KIDS ( AND SELFISH BRAD TOO) NEED A LONG TIME OUT THE EYE PUBLIC, IS INSANE ALL THE DAY PPARAZZI AND PEOPLE AROUND THEM, THE TABLOIDS AND MORE.
I THINK THAT ANGIE IS NOT IN HER BEST MOMENT, AND THE PHOTOS SEEMS THAT. SHE NEED A LONG TIME OUT OF EYE PUBLIC AND THE KIDS TOO.

145 dina #1 : 09/26/2007 at 7:12 pm
Is there anyway we, fans, could send and e-mail from the fans to
Angie and Brad? You know collect the names of all the fans, or those who want to, and send an e-mail to her and Brad thanking them for their involvment and their caring. I don’t know how we would do it as I am totally computer challenged. But any ideas? Peace

“““““““`
Dina, that’s a great idea I hope someone here can do it.

COALHARBOURQT @ 09/26/2007 at 7:30 pm

Here is the YouTube channel - you can subscribe to it by clicking on the link included in the Multimedia page of the CGI link. I’m sure the videos will be up soon!

errr, even though I lover her I used to think Angelina looked older than her age too . that is until i saw pix of charlize and drew who are both the same age as her and they all look the same as far as age goes. it is what 32 looks like with really high quality pix. Brad too looks older than his age in hq pix. I still a huge fan of them though.
