Brad Pitt speaks before a panel discussion on energy and climate change during the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting Wednesday in New York City. The conference is focused on finding ways to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems including poverty and climate change.
According to People, Brad is partnering with billionaire Steve Bing on the “Make it Right” program, which plans to build 150 affordable – and environmentally sustainable – homes in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward. Brad and Bing have each promised to match donations pledged during the initiative up to $5 million.
FYI: It costs $15,000 per person to take part in the panel discussions and smaller working sessions at the CGI. $15K!!!!! I hope it all goes to charity…

The 5M USD plege Brad promised, I believe, will come from Jolie-pitt foundation (he was presented as a co-chair of JP foundation). I think now both Angie and Brad put their money in three part:1/3 for humanitarian issues (JP foundation), 1/3 for children (Mondo bongo?? -not sure of the name) trust and 1/3 for them to use.
As someone mentioned here what they (JP) are doing is way better than marriage certificate.
Whatever tabloids say and/or whatever trolls say, does not matter. As Angie said in one of her interviews, what will remain in the long-run will be what they have accomplished. And they have accomplished a lot: stable home, good children and their humanitarian work.

I’m watching the Clinton Global Initiative on the Strategies for Young and Adolescent Girls (Education) – all members of the panel who spoke on behalf of their organization from Africa, India, Latin America, Afghanistan were all fantastic.
Right now, they are presenting the first award by the Clinton Global Initiative to Shakira – for her dedication and commitment by her foundation in sponsoring education for the poorest children in Colombia.
Angelina is scheduled to speak sometime this afternoon.

Skipping over all the stupid trolls, it’s great that Brad is getting involved. He’s been blessed and wants to give back.
Some say that Angelina is a positive influence to him. I would agree. I also feel that Brad has been a very powerful influence on Angelina, so much so that many jealous people claimed they liked the “old” Angelina better.
They have been a positive influence to each other and that’s how a relationship should be. Their exes, IMO, were not positive influences to them.

Angelina Jolie and UNHCR promote education at Clinton Global Initiative
THAM HIN REFUGEE CAMP, Thailand (UNHCR) - In Thailand refugee toddlers get a pre-school headstart on education and teenagers learn vital computer skills. In Azerbaijan refugee children have new playgrounds and learn to swim. In Uganda, thousands of refugee children are getting text books for the first time.
The unifying reason in these countries, together with help provided in Kenya, Liberia and Chad, is the funds raised through the ninemillion programme to help children driven from their homes by conflict and violence. The progamme is about to grow - with a goal of enhancing education for nine million children by 2010.
UN High Commissioner for Refugee António Guterres and UNHCR’s Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie will join former US president Bill Clinton at the September 26-28 meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative in New York, issuing a call to raise $220 million for refugee education. The CGI aims to inspire commitments of help from its members.
The UNHCR programme is aimed at providing Education (Plus) - education beyond the existing schooling now offered by UNHCR - to nine million refugee children by 2010. Education (Plus) will provide resources to develop a child’s full potential, with an emphasis on girls’ participation and additional activities like life-skills training, sport programs, disease prevention and access to technology.
Started in 2006, ninemillion has so far raised over US$ 2 million. These funds are already allocated to education and sport programmes in Thailand, Azerbaijan and Uganda. New projects are on the way.
The efforts of ninemillion are shifting towards improving education in three conflict zones around the world - Colombia, Iraq’s neighbours and Sudan’s Darfur region with its spillover into Chad. The potential benefits can be seen in places where extra UNHCR education assistance has already been provided.
Growing up in a refugee camp in Thailand, Aye Hla’s first three children didn’t have a chance to study beyond Grade Six. But she has higher hopes for her youngest son, Lweh Say, whom she cuddles in her lap on the floor of a new nursery school.
“I hope he can be an educated person, and this is a good start,” she says, gesturing around the large airy thatched building built and equipped with funds from the UNHCR-led ninemillion initiative. Thanks to the money raised for education and sports, refugee toddlers in Thailand are getting a pre-school head start, and refugee teenagers are learning vital computer skills.
In Azerbaijan, children of refugees and internally displaced people have learned to swim and to make healthy choices in life. New playgrounds have given 30,000 children a safe and fun place to play. In Uganda, thousands of refugee children are getting their own textbooks and school supplies for the first time, and teachers are getting real blackboards for desperately ill-equipped classrooms.
The conflict that Lweh Say’s ethnic Karen parents fled in Myanmar has been simmering for nearly six decades. But in Tham Hin refugee camp along the Thai-Myanmar border, his family is getting a chance for a brighter future: They are among thousands being considered for resettlement to the United States.
“The headstart he’s getting here will help him when we get to America,” says Aye Hla, referring to the nursery school’s “play and learning space”, which supports creative learning through special toys.
At a new computer centre that complements the normal curriculum for older children, ninemillion supplied the electricity to run the computers, and lessons are limited to 20 minutes each because there are so few computers.
Even so, enthusiastic students whizz through the basic English needed to follow the lessons and have learned to type. Some are even mastering Microsoft’s Powerpoint presentations. “I know my future will be good if I get a computer education,” says a confident 15-year-old girl named Naw Say Paw. “I know the computer is used all over the world.”
These serious issues of education will be discussed when Guterres and Jolie attend the deliberations of the CGI in New York, hoping to draw commitments of assistance from the influential participants.

As a person who ACTUALLY GREW UP ON NEW ORLEANS, I applaud Brad’s efforts. I applaud the efforts of EVERYONE who has done ANYTHING to help rebuild that once great city. When the hurricane happened, so many stars were quick to write a check and forget about it but New Orleanians want to GO HOME!!

Way to go Ted Turner. Heard him on a show a few weeks ago about the USA’s biggest givers and his aim is to just give give and give. He won’t give it all away - he has to have his bottom line limit left over - then he waits until his funds get replenished before he gives some more. He apparently loves to give money away. I think Richard Branson is the same way.

I don’t think Ted Turner still owns CNN. We used to work with Ted since he was a big supporter of my organaization’s issue. He’s a weird guy but he is very compassionate and genuine in his concern and efforts to help. He used to be very cynical about helping starving people because he thought you should spend the money on the big picture like global economics and enriching the developing nations and letting them feed their own.
The Mondo Bongo Trust was and I guess still is Brad’s real estate company that purchased properties for him - he may have had partners in it or maybe they just worked for him - his Malibu house that he bought right after his separation from Aniston was purchased by the Mondo Bongo Trust. So was the New Orleans house. I don’t think it has anything to do with the kids.

Jess0 - you are so right - they do what they can but have to get around somehow right? I believe the good they are doing far outweighs their carbon footprint. There are means to compensate.
One of the things that I really admire about Brad and Angie is that they are balancing their desire to have a large family with the impact on environment. They could just pop out a bunch of kids and never think twice about adopting impoverished, malnourished children - and nobody would blink an eye. But instead they adopt children and this decreases the impact of overpopulation that the world is facing today. If you add up how much energy, resources, and waste a single human being in North America uses up and puts out over a life time it is substantial. So instead they adopt children and are criticized for it.

I will say again , I am amazed how some of Angie fans act like Brad all of a sudden woke up and decided to help. Brad has always given , but not in a public way. When Brad met Angie he used the attention that was put on him and turned on things that needed the focus. Angie has said Brad is more quiet in his way, look even today he gives his speech and that is it, he did not hold a press conference to announce “make it right” he told the peeps who could help. As for Angie’s image took a turn for the better after she divorced Billy Bob and adopted Maddox and started working for the un. However, Angie never got as much attention until she got together with Brad, she was not in such a big spotlight. So if peeps were fair, Brad is a big reason for such a spotlight, now as soon as she does something it is instantly reported and goes around the world immediately. That never happen before Brad. All these people are trying to do some good…They are getting together to learn what has been done successfully, what has not work, what can be done…so as far as I’m concern it’s all good.
The attendees are people who want to help and learn about the issues and do something about problems and they are actually doing so. It won’t happen overnight, but little by little, individual are being helped. The makeitright organization won’t help all of NOLA, but they will help some. The Jolie-Pitt foundation and UNHCR won’t be able to educate all kids everywhere, but they will help some of the kids. It’s all about helping just a little somewhere.

Well, dina #1, since I’m a doctor I’m trying mainly to watch the discussion about vaccines, although I think they are all interesting. They are having a very good discussing about the finantial support for the programs and research about vaccines, and how the Mondial Bank could/should be the institution to centralize (is there such a word in english??) this, so the international funds for that purpose wouldn’t go to different donors, creating a difficult in devellopping countries (one must ask for funds everywhere without knowing where it can be obtained). Sorry for the poor english…On that link of the clintonglobaliniciative they have the link to this and the other discussions.
Now that he gain this place among politician because of Angulina,he doesn`t need her any more.and he will dump her as soon as he can.

Are you serious?? I have write many praising post about Angie my self hon and I have praised her for what she does and for the kind of woman she is and I have defend her 1000 times from troll’s nonsense.

Thanks for the new thread Just Jared. BP and AJ are two people that I admire. I listen in on some of the panels and they were very interesting. BP and AJ will be just fine. However, if it makes troll happy to come up with all these fanfics then go ahead. It obviously helps in your mundane lives. Meanwhile, BP and AJ are speaking on very important causes and raising funds for these causes. i think what they’re doing is great. there aren’t a lot of people willing to part with that much money, no matter how rich, for charity. especially the nouveau riche since they come from not much money. regarding the private jet thing, i think they travel thru that because it’s always like a media frenzy when they travel commercial. do u guys remember those video clips of them at the airport when angie was still pregnant with shiloh? crazy…in an idea world we wouldn’t need gasoline to fly a plane but we live in this here reality, and we do need diesel to power such machinery. if such was possible, i think they would buy a private plane that can operate safely with non harmful gaseous substances. but that has to be wishful thinking for now. we can only do what is humanly possible, and what we can control, which is our own actions- the best the we ourselves can do to preserve our planet. ;-)

Why do rumors dog Brad Pitt that he doesn’t have his own personality and morphs into any woman he is with? It is natural for two people in love to absorb each other’s interests. That is one of the abiding properties of LOVE in that it should make you a better person. There is no doubt that Angelina’s commitment to charity has given Brad’s life more meaning and focus.
You notice that he didn’t adopt refugees as his cause like Angelina, no he has ALWAYS been interested in architecture so has applied his efforts in New Orleans to building eco-friendly homes. This springs directly from his own personality, not Angelina’s. To criticize him for this comes from a small minded individual in my book.
He has nothing to apologize for that Angelina has influenced him. There is no doubt that Angelina’s personality will also be influenced by Brad. He will be a settling influence on her as well. Does this mean she is morphing into Brad? No, it will simply demonstrate the power of love to guide both parties into being the best they can be.
God, keep blessing and watching over the Jolie-Pitt family.
