Brad Pitt speaks before a panel discussion on energy and climate change during the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting Wednesday in New York City. The conference is focused on finding ways to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems including poverty and climate change.
According to People, Brad is partnering with billionaire Steve Bing on the “Make it Right” program, which plans to build 150 affordable – and environmentally sustainable – homes in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward. Brad and Bing have each promised to match donations pledged during the initiative up to $5 million.
FYI: It costs $15,000 per person to take part in the panel discussions and smaller working sessions at the CGI. $15K!!!!! I hope it all goes to charity…

Be careful what “charities” you give to. Do your homework on them. There are too many scam charities around.
It’s wonderful if anyone gets involved. Just make sure you do your homework if you know nothing about an organization.
Did Ted Turner really donate over 100 million to the UN ? Well, it doesn’t change my opinion on the political views on the journalism on his network, specially on the first stages of the invasion of Irak(but who cares about my opinions :) ), but it does say something good about him, doesn’t it? didn’t know he was SUCH a trillionaire.

I didn’t see Brad’s speech but read about it. Apparently Sir Richard Branson stood up at the end and offered his support. Now that’s a great guy - English school drop out and a self made billionaire. Look him up. I’m sure the Jolie Pitts already know him.

NEW YORK (CNN) — CNN founder and Time Warner vice chairman Ted Turner announced Thursday night that he will donate $1 billion over the next decade to United Nations programs.
Turner made the announcement at a dinner held in New York by the United Nations Association-USA to honor Turner for his contribution to the international community. He was presented the Global Leadership award by the group.
Speaking of his gift, Turner said, “this is not going to go for administration. This is only going to go for programs, programs like refugees, cleaning up land mines, peacekeeping, UNICEF for the children, for diseases, and we’re going to have a committee that will work with a committee of the U.N. The money can only go to U.N. causes.”

I’m watching the Clinton Global Initiative on the Strategies for Young and Adolescent Girls (Education) – all members of the panel who spoke on behalf of their organization from Africa, India, Latin America, Afghanistan were all fantastic.
Right now, they are presenting the first award by the Clinton Global Initiative to Shakira – for her dedication and commitment by her foundation in sponsoring education for the poorest children in Colombia.
Angelina is scheduled to speak sometime this afternoon.
