Shakira meets with Mayor Bloomberg at City Hall Thursday to announce a $40 million donation she’s making to aid relief efforts in earth-quake-ravaged Peru and hurricane-stricken Nicaragua. The gift is from a foundation co-created by the Columbian native — The Latin America for Solidarity Foundation.
$5 additional million will be spent on health and education in four Latin American countries. And on Saturday, Shakzilla will also host a discussion on youth activism at the Clinton Global Initiative.

IM FROM PERU AND THERE IS A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE LOST EVERYTHING INCLUDING THEIR ENTIRE FAMILIES IN THIS EARTHQUAKE. GOD BLESS HER AND ALL THE PEOPLE THAT IS HELPING US OVERCOME THIS DISASTER.

What part of “The gift is from a FOUNDATION she helped co-create” did you guys not understand??? Reading comprehension is severely lacking it seems. Of course it isn’t 40 million straight from her own pocket - she isn’t THAT rich.
Somehow I doubt Shakira has ANYTHING to do with money connected to her boyfriend’s father.
Another wonderful woman making a difference in the world today - BRAVA SHAKIRA! Her hips don’t lie cuz she’s walking the walk, just like Angie and Brad.
Wow! She’s amazing to give so much money for those in need! In my eyes, she even better than Angelina Jolie.

She made twice that much on her last album - Yes she has that much money. Britany brings in $737,000.00 a month on royalities. The pop, Rap and, rock and roll bands like U2 are worth Hundred of millions.
That’s why they are richer then movie stars like Jolie, Pitt and Cruise but, not Oprah.

Shakira has always been one of those stars aware of the problem of the world.
Her background as a Colombian with the problems of her country (drug mafia, violence and huge corruption) and her heritahge as partly arab has always make her more prone to be sensitive to global issue such as hatred, violence, poverty, ect.
She is also a very smart, articulate, humble and multiligual person.
BRAVO SHAKIRA! You’re beautiful inside and out! Deb, grow up. Shakira may not be big in the U.S. but she’s HUGE in Latin America and other parts of the world. Check Billboard’s stats for something other than Pop and you’d know that. And can we pleez stop with the Angelina comparisons. Is it possible to have one post that’s entirely about someone else’s good deed that doesn’t involve Angelina? Geez.

Money is not all thats needed, especially regarding development. Offering one’s time and activism is also greatly needed, maybe more so when you are of celebrity status. Thats where Angelina excels. She has become a great spokesperson for a wonderful organization. Just because someone else donates a sum of greater monetary value then her should not diminish any of her altruistic achievements and relentless advocation regarding refugees. In the end, I applaud BOTH women as the are BOTH examples of the leadership that is needed in this world to bring about effective and tangible change.
In short, don’t compare the two as if its a competition and relegate one as a saint and the other as a wannabe.
