OlderBen Affleck: Jennifer Lopez Killed My Career
Boston boy Ben Affleck is the November 2007 cover boy for Details Magazine. He pimps the crime thriller Gone Baby Gone adapted and directed by himself. Here are some highlights from the interview:
On dating Jennifer Lopez: “It was probably bad for my career. What happens is this sort of bleed-over from the tabloids across your movie work. You go to a movie, you only go once. But the tabloids and Internet are everywhere. You can really subsume the public image of somebody. I ended up in an unfortunate crosshair position where I was in a relationship and [the media] mostly lied and inflated a bunch of salacious stuff for the sake of selling magazines. And I paid a certain price for that. Then, in concert with some movies that didn’t work…”
On Gone Baby Gone: “I feel like (Gone Baby Gone) is the linchpin for my life. My career. I have a lot riding on it. I want [the film] to work. Badly. I mean, a shitty movie comes out on 2,800 screens? I’ve been there and it’s embarrassing.”
On why he likes directing: “That’s why there’s something really great about directing-about having authorship over something. If you don’t like this movie, I’m the guy to see. I’m the guy to criticize. I take some measure of comfort in that. It’s fair, at least.”
On his directorial debut: “Listen, I’ve gone out and directed a movie and made it really f—king good. If the movie’s good, people will like it and go see it. All the rest of it is bullshit.”
On what’s at stake with his new film: “It’s pretty simple. If people don’t go see it – I’m f—ked.”
On his decision to direct: “I guess I just thought, I’ve seen it done enough. I’ve been on the sets enough. I’m a writer. An amateur photographer. An actor. I guess I just thought the sum of these parts would come together and I’d be able to do it.”
On living in L.A.: “I’d be surprised if I’m still living here in a couple of years. Professionally it would be difficult. But that’s not as important as that other thing.”

“Ben is just a moron that doesn’t know how to pick good movies and likes to blame things on others.” Enough said! Exactly how does a full-page advertisement declaring your feelings for the newly-married JLo in the pre-eminent Hollywood Variety newspaper make you think it’s the paparazzi’s fault you’re over-exposed? If it wasn’t for Matt Damon’s loyalty and his publicists calling in favours to get Ben’s picture into those so-called despised tabloids and blogs, this bozo would have been forgotten about by now. Good riddance already!
Lopez will always prevail over him. Once a nobody, always a nobody. Jennifer has never uttered that rude phrase, even though her career got side tracked as well. At least J.Lo has always been gracious and never flat out said her career was ruined. He’s always looking for a scapegoat. I hope his movie fails horribly.
You know I thought that was really tacky and LOW of Ben Affleck. Look Ben, the reason you’re career went down the toilet was due to the roles YOU SELECTED. NOBODY should feel sorry for Ben Affleck, unlike all those struggling actors out there he has a CHOICE in his acting roles he doesn’t have to go AUDITIONS EITHER. Jennifer is doing well good for her. I am so glad Jennifer is doing well and Ben is doing crappy he’s a real ass for blaming Jennifer for his messed up career.
It sounds like Ben still hasn’t gotten over Jennifer Lopez. Jennifer Lopez NEVER talks about Ben Affleck she’s moved on and so should he. Ben sounds really bitter I mean the guy still got the vapours for his ex girlfriend.
The only time i am reminded of Bennifer is when Ben opens his mouth.
JLO did **** up his reputation as an actor.
That said, Ben’s personality is highly entertaining and cool but his acting has only ever been decent.
He should feel grateful that a woman as beautiful as J-Lo wasted her time with him.
HE has no talent. His films suck. He can’t act. THAT is why his career sucked not because of J-LO.
What an idiot. No wonder he is with a second rate actor like Jennifer “Manly” Garner.
Part of being a grown-up is taking responsibility for your own decisions. You are the sum of the choices YOU make in your life, and if you make bad choices, you own up to that.
This clown sounds like emotionally he is about five and a half years old. JLo is well out of it.
Jlo was the A-list and more famouse one when he hook-up with her, in fact, I came to know him after their hook-up. and Now, he’s blaming JLo for his career ? He should blame himself for his poor judgement on choosing script and mediocre talent.
I’m afraid his marriage with Garner might be on the brink, when a guy start whinning and frustrated, that means he ’s not happy with his present life. too bad, I think Garner doesn’t deserve him.
Wow, the nerve of Ben Affleck to blame the paparzzi for the demise of his career, How about the way he treated Jlo. He almost destroy her professional and personal life. She divorced her husband because him . At the time that Ben was engaged with Jlo he was seeing Jennifer Garner. At the same time Jennifer was seeing Michael Vartan. Ben, Jlo and Jennifer Garner are cheaters.
But worst is Jennifer Garner, she dumped Michael Vartan and then throw him out of the show. That was cruel.
Eventhough he didn’t actually said that Jennifer Lopez killed his career, he does imply that it had something to do with his career going down, with all the media attention relationships among famous people get, and seriously, that’s a very silly thing to say. If anyone is to blame is himself and his bad choices regarding the movies he made.
I personally don’t consider him a great actor, but he’s cute and likeable on screen, and had a moment in which he was on top, the problem is that instead of trying to do films with quality in them, he went for blockbusters that ended up being really bad movies. I think that the only really good movies he made are Chasing Amy (cult movie all the way, directed by Kevin Smith), Shakespeare in Love, and Good Will Hunting. And eventhough there are some bluckbusters that weren’t so bad like Armageddon or Pearl Harbor, these aren’t really quality movies that can make an actor be respected as an actor per se, so when the bad choices came, he just didn’t had a reputation as a good actor, he had a reputation as just a pretty face of hollywood, of which are many, who could make some bucks in the theathers, and when that stops happenings, actors stop having so many choices. It has nothing to do with their relationships or their scandals.
At least that’s what I think… hope he has good luck as a director and that his next movies show a new facet of him as an actor..

Dam Rachel!!Forget the past, Ben1 I always tell people, STOP going to the PAST. Won’t do any good. FORGET the past as if it never happened and MOVE FORWARD. Trust me, miracles happen when you completely forget the past. I use to let my past hang over me, without realizing it and without realizing how doing that inhibited my future. The past makes you weaker. Live in the moment. And don’t WAIT for the future. The present time now is the key to success in your life and personal happiness.

I’m so over him, why is it that all Jennifer Lopez’s exes talk about her once they have some new project to promote lol. It only sets themselves in a dark light not Jennifer. Like she ever talks about her exes, she always takes the High Road. And it’s so sad for ben, he is married, has a daughter and that he still talks about Jen1 is only a sign that he’s still not over her.
When he first burst on the scene, with his Kennedyesque quasi handsome looks and good guy vibe, it looked like he had a shot. Personally though, I have never cared for Ben Affleck’s acting. And, he’s a complete embarrassment when he guests on Bill Mahr’s show. He’s a bland everyman who caught a break and surprise! you need more than opposable thumbs to generate box office. And, the political thing, God help us if he genuinally pursues that. I hear he’s good at poker. I recommend he stick with that.
He’s just a bitter man because Matt Damon became a bankable movie star that everybody wants in their movies and he ended up with no career because he chose the money over scripts with quality and ended up with Jennifer Garner because he knocked her up. Your married Ben, so stop talking about the ex…it says a lot about your rebound marriage to jennifer garner that you keep going on about JLo. Move on and STFU about JLo.

You people are so pathetic. Ben is absolutely right. Courting the media attention like both he and JHO did ruined his career, albeit temporarily. Skeletor and Pittboy should take note and learn to not be such media wh0res. They should also learn how to keep their mouths shut. Ben’s clearly learned a valuable lesson. Its been more than three years since Ben dumped Jen #1 for Jen #2..What the hell is doing still talking about her.. He was the one who cheated…He was the jerk in the relationship…
His track record is how he makes his women dump thier men for him and then turns around and dumps them… case inpoint.. Ben got Gwenyth to dump Brad for him.. He got jen Lopez to dump her hubby for him (the flowers at her restaurant opening in front of her hubby was a classless move). He got Jen #2 to dump Michael Vartan for him.. If it weren’t for the fact she got preggers..he would have moved on long ago. But what astonishes me is that he talked as if he had a booming career.. when he was with Gwenyth his career was tanmking also.. why not blame her as well?
Jen has been happpily married to Marc for almost three and half years and her last interview she was simply glowing and giggling with her hubby Marc.
It does seem strange he should even mention JLo as a career crasher..when his career crashed well after he was with Gwenyth.
Sounds like someone wished he had JLOs career right now. Her star is still shining brightly while his is barely there.
