Zac Efron gives the a-okay as BFF costar Nikki Blonsky flashes the victory sign at the Hairspray Japan Premiere on Thursday Tokyo, Japan. Zikki was joined director Adam Shankman.
Shankman recently cautioned that Zac “probably should back away from musicals for a while now. The best thing he could do is more drama or a comedy and cultivate a male audience. It’s always tough when your audience is so heavily skewed in one direction.”

I am glad Adam Shankman showed for this one…the promotion tour must be winding down. He is right about Z needing to get into different genres. Only long time fans of Z know that he did a lot of dramatic acting work before HSM. Now he is only associated with musicals. I hope 17 brings him a wider audience.
zac isn’t much of team player is he? everyone else is more into it the dancing, including the Japanese people, than he is. somethings wrong with that.

#43 There are several possible reasons Zac and Nikki are doing all the promotions.
1) The movie is mainly about Nikki’s character.
2) She and Z are the “newbies” and do not appear to have projects they have to get to right now.
3) Zac’s popularity sells tickets.
4) They are contractually obligated.
I am sure I could come up with a few more reasons if I tried. Anyway, I think the promotional stuff is coming to an end soon (unless they are going to South America). Besides, Zac will have to start filming soon so he won’t be able to go as much.

i think he needs to get a nice new haircut since that longer one makes hin look like clay aiken…which is not exactly flattering…a shorter haircut would be really fine…i also think that the make up artists tend to apply too much make up on him which again isn’t flattering at all…i hope he also has a say on that if he wishes to achieve a more masculine look…he’s gorgeous as he is so looking more natural is the way to go for him…
as for nikki and zac i noticed that there isn’t any physical closeness (like handholding) any more, and the distance means he is aware that being bff is quite different from going steady, though he admits in the past that he and nikki had a thing going…they are probably just bff now which is just as cool…
i don’t know about zanessa but they are still going for HSM 3 so they really need to keep up that front and chemistry to keep the energy going…after the movie the answer remains to be seen…

i think you’re right that there seems to be less physical contact between zac and nikki this trip. it just might be that the aussi and euro stops were during the whole vanessa pic thing, and i think nikki was probably supper supportive, like any good friend should be. i’m sure that whole situation was difficult for zac. i mean we have no idea what the whole story was, ie: were the pics for him, for someone else, how long ago were they taken?????? depending on the answers to those questions, the effect on zac could have varied widely. i mean, imo, if those pics were originally taken for someone else, that’s gotta be hard for a guy to accept, don’t you think?
anyway, i’m glad this is the last hairspray premier, because those two have got to be tire, and probably sick of watching the movie!!!!!!!

#123 - You’re very much on base. I’m 23 and a a premed student and we studied facial anatomy last year. You can see in the close-up photos of Zac’s face that his jawline is changing (he’s about to turn 20, but the jawline and other facial features can still change for a few more years). And it’s changing for the good - I have liked (but not loved) Zac’s face since HSM 1, but I think he is a work in progress, because he the rounded cheeks and soft jaw don’t give him a mature (for a young man) appeal. In another couple of years, I predict that Zac’s face will evolve into truly stunning young adult and that he will have the outstanding young ADULT looks needed to rise to the very top in mainstream Hollywood feature movies. I know a lot of you like his look right now, but if you are real fans you will remain loyal to him as he matures into the beauiful young MAN that he is destined to become.

132 well said. his physical looks are a work in progress though obviously he has so much beauty at his young age now…he has the facial structure, the chiseled face and perfect nose and i see an exotic middle eastern look in him. i’ve only seen his father in one picture with zac as a bay so i can see where that exotic faetures comes from..i am so curious to see how his mother is and how his father looks like now….he seems to be a health buff, works hard to stay fit and eats healthy, runs and works out so if he’s stays on the right path i can imagine him really evolving into a really physically perfect young man. but i see so much of his kind and gentle spirit so that makes him even more beautiful as his friend nikki blonsky has reiterated…

i’m loving all the comments on zac’s beauty. i agree that in candids he is adorable and handsome. but i also love the many photo shoots that we’ve seen of him. for example, rolling stone (article pics), vanity fair, elle mag, etc) he truly is beautiful and i love seeing talented photographers bring that out in him. when a photographer has such an incredible subject to work with the results are amazing.
i also felt, that he looked great with the 10-15 lbs he had to gain for hairspray. i look forward to seeing him mature in the years to come!

I don’t think he was crying. I think he is just tired. Long airplane rides will do that to your eyes. Also, the difference in time. They are about 12-14 hours ahead than US. It is called jet-lag.

#144 - Even though Zac most likely flies in First Class where they have those lie-flat beds, it’s the super dry air in the airplane cabins that is the killer. So even if he got hours of sleep on the way over, his eyes could still look strained.

Ok, I dislike Nikki as much as the next person. I think she’s too flirty with Zac and I do think she needs to back off, considering he has a girlfriend and all. I feel the same way about Ashley Tisdale too.
However, I do NOT condone insulting Nikki Blonsky because of her weight. That’s just plain rude, immature, and very, VERY stupid. I think she’s beautiful, and just because she isn’t aneroxically skinny like everyone thinks celebrites are SUPPOSED to be, doesn’t make her any less beautiful.

I just finished watching Miracle Run on youtube.com and I was reminded how good an actor Zac is. I forgot how good he was in it. I hope he is offered another dramatic role to show his range.
As far as Nikki is concerned, she is a good actress that is getting ripped by fans because of her interaction with Zac. Thankfully, Zac and Vanessa are secure enough in their relationship that there does not appear to be a problem among them. Not only is Zac doing his job to promote te film, keep in mind that a LOT of adults who will never see the HSM TV movies are going to have their first exposure to Zac in Hairspray. And what a major debut it is - not only does he look fabulous (especially with his hair up and out of his beautiful eyes) he shows remarkable range as a singer/actor that is miles removed from the simpler HSM format. Mr. Shankman and the cinematographer present Zac in the best possible light, and Zac responds wonderfully, This success, more than HSM, is Zac’s ticket to his future movie roles, and all Zac fans should get behind efforts to make it even more successful. I’ve already pre-ordered my Blu-Ray DVD at Amazon, and also five more regular copies to use as stoking stuffers for Xmas!
