TANCREDI GOT THE AXE.
Yes, Dr. Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) was decapitated and her head stuffed in a box. So what really happened to SWC? TVGuide interviewed Prison Break executive producer Matt Olmstead to get to the bottom of things:
What was your understanding as to why she didn’t want to come back? It seems strange that she refused to return in any capacity. Doesn’t it seem strange to you? It looked like a pretty good deal on the face of it. We definitely came up in money. Thirteen episodes would have allowed the character to have a proper exit. We were willing to push the start date back [to accommodate her maternity leave], which would have meant her coming in [around] Episode 10, but that wasn’t accepted. So then we offered to come up [to Canada] before she gave birth and film at her house. Pretty good money and she wouldn’t even have to leave her house. That wasn’t accepted. So it was a little curious to me and to others why she was taking such a hard stance. [Maybe] she felt that she was made certain assurances about being part of the show this season. And in fairness to her, those assurances were given, because she was such a valuable member of the show…. Also, she’s up [in Canada]. She’s comfortable. She’s starting a family. Maybe she didn’t want to have to fly down and have to do this stuff. Or maybe she felt like she wanted to be part of the show [full time], not just half the season. Perhaps she felt a little jilted. Our [original] plan was to definitely keep her for [all of] Season 3, but after a couple of times of getting it kicked back from the network, we had to come up with a new idea and that necessitated her character being killed.

I had a wonderful time working with the creative team and have a world of respect for all of them; they took great care of Dr. Sara. I’m also enormously grateful to the fans. They’ve been so gracious and supportive, and I hope they continue to enjoy the show.”

Like it or not, the Sara/Michael romance was an integral part of the show from the get-go. Aside from freeing his brother (and yes those conversations through the fence ARE getting old), Sara was Michael’s primary motivation for doing anything. Now I just don’t care. That’s it for me with this show unless I hear they sewed her head back on.
The person who said that “anyone who stops watching the show because of Sarah’s death was never a true fan” must be the most cold hearted, miserable person on the planet. Prison Break is a drama, and dramas have more than just action sequences. A good drama has interesting characters that suck you in to their world week after week. Prison Break had that and more. Then they had to go and ruin it. Now Michael has no real motivation (and don’t say revenge, because that’s just a cheap gimmick that grows old fast). No matter what happens from here on out, he can never have a happy ending. We can never have a happy ending. He’ll get out and be reunited with Linc, but then what? Will he go on some murderous rampage against the people who killed Sarah? That is not even remotely the character I’ve grown to care about so much over the last two seasons. Without the romance between Sarah and Michael, the show has no heart. Unfortunately for me and many others, there is no real reason to keep watching. As for the actress not wanting to return: well that’s debatable. Maybe she did and maybe she didn’t. All I know is that there were many other options instead of killing the character that would have been more acceptable.I would have been much happier if they would have recast the part. It wouldn’t have been quite the same without SWC playing the role, but it would have been preferable to what we have now.
I was as upset as any Prison Break fan to see Sara’s head in the box but, really, I think this is going to take the show to a whole new level. How is Micahel going to react when he finds out about Sara’s death? How will this news affect his relationship with Lincoln? After all, Lincoln is letting Michael believe that all is well on the outside so that he will continue on with the plan to free Whistler and save Sara and LJ. How is Sara’s death going to effect Michael emotionally? He brought Sara into this whole twisted plot and he is the one ultimately responsible for her killing. And, for the most exciting part, how will he get revenge?
HOW ******* LAAAAAAAAAAAAME!
I’m done with this ******* show. I hope it gets cancelled. Misa/Sara is what kept the woman watching.. now their gone, the ratings is gonna sucks! *IHOPE*

I agree I”m done with Prison Break the whole Michel Sara thing was one of the best aspects of the show. Hopefully this will be the last season of pb they have totally fucked it up now. They should just kill Michael now too

I can’t say as that I blame SWC for not coming back if they were going to plan to kill her anyway. I just think that is terrible and tacky that they were going to kill her there are any number of people they could have killed they should have pitched those ideas to the producers not just killing SWC. More power to you SWC for not coming back just to be killed!
Like said before, PB is getting really annoying, especially since middle of season 2. This show was a one shot, they should’ve ended it after season 1.
#62, I said it and No i am not a cold hearted miserable person, yes they were cute together, but they did not have some great grand love story. I like romance just as much as the next person, but I do not watch prison break for love, and yes i enjoyed moments of sara and michael, but it was not ever what held my interest, and all I am saying is that if it is what held your interest this is not the show for you. Went is the only untouchable of this show, and the sooner yall realize that the less time yall can spend thinking the world is gonna end b/c an ACTOR left the show. Also, since you called me a cold hearted miserable person, I could say that you may be a pathetic person who lives their romance through a fake couple on tv, but i wont that would be mean and just an assumption on my part. Good riddance Prison Break will be fine w.o all you “fans” of the show that will stop watching the minute a person who the show was never supposed to revolve around leaves, and anyways you know you’re still gonna watch so the good bye is pretty pointless.
Why can’t we all just respect each others opinions on this site instead of bashing one anohter. For some the whole relastionship of MIchael and Sara is what they enjoyed about the show respect the fact they are sad it’s over and those who are glad she is gone should be respected too. No need to get so mean over a fictional show and people.
#73 I dont mind being sad about it, but when people start saying they arent going to watch the show anymore that just annoys me b/c you havent even given it a chance and you are already writing it off. I also got a little mad when I was labeled a cold hearted miserable person b/c I am not that sad about it. You are right though, and I would like to say to all that I respect you are sad, but at least give it a chance, the foundation of the show was never sara and michael.

I can say it may be a bit too soon to say jump the shark but I was throughly pissed off they axed Sarah. It is like you spent 2 season making viewers have a vested interest in this character then with no closure between her and Michael you axe her. Geez!! I kinda felt like this season is season one all over again just in a different prison environment. They better get cooking on some different twists and turn and story ideas or they are going to lose viewers. And to the person who did the Sarah head in a box like JT’s **** in a box…classic because I actually said that outloud when I watched the show. haha
Does anybody know the email of PB’s producers? I just want to tell them of my displeasure of such a callous way of ending Sara’s character. Arrggghh….
I hope the writer’s will be able to pull something out, like a Mission Impossible thing…another woman killed but with Sara’s face )sort of) on it. a Sara look alike.
Paging Sarah Wayne Callies….come back to the show. I don’t think you want to be known as the actress who gets her head cut off on PB. That will be a stigma. You can just visit Michael and talk at him at the fence…tell him you are going to Timbukto and he can’t see you again. That is more bearable to us PB fans rather than having your head cut off. Closure..closure..we MISA fans needed that.
PB producers…you better have a good plot week after week…or else, fans will stop watching the show and ratings will go down.
Abruzzi was my favorite character, and he was killed a year ago this episode. And I’m STILL waiting on him to come back. Sara fans who say they are going to boycott the show will wait too.
Killing off Sara takes the show into a dark place, I’m not willing to follow. And seriously: Michael’s rebounding? Why don’t the writers turn that knife a little more. If it’s Lechero’s chick, they might as well have just killed Michael’s character too.
I don’t really blame SWC for not wanting to come back for a few “damsel in distress” scenes before they kill her character. Especially because they were all “there’s no way we’re killing Dr. Sara off” last year. BS.
I’m with you guys I have a lot of respect for SWC for not coming back just to be killed off. She was told she would have a job and then to find out they want her back just to kill her. I wouldn’t do it either. We will miss you Sarah but totally support and respect your decision. Sara on the show was a strong independtent character and to have her come back as the damasal in distress is a slap in the face to her character so SWC made the right decision despite how sad it makes a lot of us.
Killing off Sara has taken the show down such a dark path, I’m not willing to follow it anymore. And seriously, Michael getting another girl?? Why not just keep turning the knife writers - you might actually kill off your entire fanbase.

Watch This video clip Interviewing with the casts of PB about Sarah’s Death.. Apparently she wanted to stay with her child..but again you never know as i said. she might return. PB writers will write a whole new script for her.. maybe like (The head in the box wasn’t her?)

I think the show will be kind of..empty now..No Michael and Sara meeting to look forward to anymore and I just..I think it was a BIG mistake.
People are saying they’re upset over her death because they wanted Michael and Sara to have a happy ending… I knew from the get go that there was no happy ending to be had between them. And to be totally honest, I don’t forsee a happy ending for anyone on the show (I hope I’m wrong). But only time will tell I guess..

it’s quite sad that some of you are reacting quite negatively to sara being killed off the show. i had heard the rumors, so i was prepared for it when it happened - although it was still shocking when you did see her head in that box. but will i stop watching the show? no. because i wasn’t watching the show for her - i was watching the show because i enjoy it.
so i agree - with other posters - if you aren’t going to watch the show anymore because sara was killed off - then you weren’t a prison break fan to begin with.
I don’t agree that you weren’t a pb fan if you stop watching the show because Sara was killed off. You can be a fan of the show and then your favorite aspect gets taken away it’s only natural that you would feel hurt and betrayed and not want to watch anymore. Either way we all have our opinions and lets try to respect that. jared you really need mods on your site people are so mean on it.
maybe she ll come back and they ll say it wasn’t actually sara’s head but some other women who was operated in cosmetic surgery …
if she doesnt come back the show is actually dead…
