Angelina Switches to Signature Black

Angelina Jolie switches from her white top and khakis into her signature black attire to pick up son Maddox, 6, from the Lycée Français de New York school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon.

Angelina looks great as usual. Maddox is so cute in his school uniform.

The bodyguard is dressed for his work, to be a bodyguard, he dresses up for RC events and whenever needed. He is always with Brad when Brad is working on set or at an event, so Brad is probably not working today.

where is daddy? @ 10/09/2007 at 4:55 pm

I just read about R getting injured.
I hope she is OK.
Speedy recovery to her.

gottaquestion @ 10/09/2007 at 5:10 pm

can you please get some pictures of angelina or brad dropping off their kids at school? Just kidding! she looks beautiful…as usual.

Do most buisness meetings, or professional attire mandate that your bra needs to be showing from your dress at all times.
In most work places this would be deemed inappropriate…? and no i am not trying to insult her, so please people, lay off.
and the real tita, before you get on my case, that is just my opinion and i will go and be comfortable in my turtlenecks and whatever you said last time…

UNHCR or CFR meeting today possibly? Or MCJPF? We have so many acronyms to choose from! :D Never mind that it could be a meeting in relation to a film project too! And yet she still finds time to pick up their son from school. Angie is such an awesome parent and Maddox is as adorable as ever. Sigh.

Happy day to all the fabulous fans *waving* Have a good one!

This woman is disgusting. I dont know how you people can like her. Her latest dumb remark was the last straw for me. She said that if you ask a kid in the the U.S. what they want to be they will say and actress/actor but if you ask a kid in one of her favorite 3rd world countries they will say a docter. What a bunch of ****. She is so full of herself. Well blood sucking Ang my daughter is going to be a teacher and none of my friends kids want to be actors either. Dumb *****.

Of course they don’t ‘mandate’ it (dumbest question ever)but big deal - unless you’re stuck in the ’50’s of course. In a day and age where women wear corsets as a top I’m not the least offended by seeing a bit of her bra under her top or camisole. Besides, she’s Angelina Jolie honey - she doesn’t have to follow your inane rules about how to dress. The woman is going to look sexy in a burlap sack, so get over it. At least she’s wearing a bra!

PS - you just have to find something to pick at right? Let’s see a pic of what you’re wearing today so we can offer our critique of YOU.

I can`t believe she is 29 years old,katie seems like a woman in the end of her 30th.why she looks so sad and miserable lately?maybe because she found out that Tom is gay and that`s makes her look like this.

sad Katie should get Suri and run away from Tom.and I don`t think Tom can do anything about Suri because she is not his child,DNA test can show that and he knows that.Suri for sure is JH`s kid,she just looks like him.

No need to suffer anymore from low self esteem when you look at this beautiful woman. She makes you feel insignificant, we know but if you don’t stop looking, you’ll never stop hurting.

And there are so-called Brad fans that do the same thing. Don’t just signal out one side.

There is a certain Brad fan that I have been waiting on to show her true colors where Angie is concern and she finally did. This fan always writes glowing post about Brad and Shiloh but the rest of the family she gets in her little digs. We have a lot of so-called fans in our mist on both sides!

#78: wobbler 30 is still ritzy. When a troll talks about a profession, you can be sure it’s ritzy…the jill of all trades and the master of disguise. A prisoner in her own home has to have some outlet for her frustrations.

I like her outfit

78 wobbler30- ITA with you, beside Angie’s statment was deeper than just asking the kids what they want to be. I think she was pointing out that the children here in the USA are so privilidge, that they can be anything they wanted to be, if they want to be an actress or an artist, they can. They can follow their dream, without worrying about to find a job that support a whole family or helping a whole village and most of all, they will not starve to death or being subject to be recruit in a terrorist organization.

A child in a 3rd worlds country, to be an actress or an artist is not an option. They have to be realistic, they have to learn something that will help them to survive to be better not only for themselves but for the whole village and their family. The issues here is survival, not career choices.

ok she can go with the fashion tips from Katie Holmes - but lets just hope she doesn’t start dressing like Posh! Maybe she can go through a few of Brad’s old photo albums of him and Jen and pick up some pointers on how to look casual yet classy …. or she could just start with buying an iron! wardrobe slob.

78: I have to agree with Angie, as well as Oprah when she made a similar statement about American children only wanting material things and all the children in Africa wanted was an chance to go to school.

In society today when you have (MOST NOT ALL) children looking up Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, The Cheetah Girl’s, The Bratz’s, Britney Spears, and etc. Plus TV shows like the OC, Gossip Girls, Sweet 16 and etc. bating young minds by making the LA, Miami or New York life sweet only if you are rich. None of these people or shows talk about going to college and being all you can be, no they talk about their trust funds they have or about to inherit, or getting the next big role in Hollywood by sleeping with the directors, the newest designer labels, driving the hottest high end sports cars, making using drugs & alcohol look glamourous. Even on Dr. Phil when he has had young people on his show when he ask them what they want to be they always state an actor/actress/singer. The entertainment business has pretty much brainwashed young America today to believe you are nothing if you are not in movies, tv, or an entertainer (singer if that’s what you like to call today’s music) and that the only way to wealth if you are not born into wealth. It is through these fields and nothing else. You see programs of children in Africa and other countries dying to go to school and be educated. Education is very important and becoming a doctor is big to them because they know that is the way out to make a change and they can help their families to become independant or come to America. In America education has almost lost it’s appeal as the thing to have but go over to Asia and children in kindergarten & first grade are far more advanced than your average American 5th or 6th grader.

the real tita @ 10/09/2007 at 6:09 pm

#101: so why don’t you follow your own advice? Please don’t associate Mother Teresa with the likes of you. She’s probably turning in her grave at your audacity.

#97 Estelle : I agree with you! Besides let’s me ralistic - what are the chances of a 3rd wold country kid making it big in the movie industry? Practically nil, right? And as Estelle so rightly said these kids have to be practical cos they are talking about survival - making $ for themselves, their families and in many cases their extended families too. So for the american’s they should consider themselves blessed to be able to have so many career options and opportunities!

Every working woman who is entering into the “professional attire” arena knows that black if their best friend. Four or five classic pieces with a splash of color makes getting ready for the office so much easier. I wear it alot.

Plus, Angelina seems to be able to pull off just about any color she wears, IMO. Her natural beauty makes that possible.

My biggest problem with Angie’s humanitarian “efforts” is the fact that every trip she goes on, every panel she speaks on, and every conference she is invited to she is taking the spot of someone who is educated, qualified, and might actually make a difference.
===================================

Your biggest problem is probably you don’t understand how people and the media work or your jealousy blinds you.

With or without Angie, people and the media don’t pay attention to people who are educated, qualified, and might actually make a difference.

Without Angie drawing attention to worthy causes, I am afraid people will just pay attention to Britney, Lindsay…….

Hot date with Papa Pitt!!!!!! Love the Jolie Pitts. People can’t we just all get along. Brad loves Angie, Angie loves Brad. Get over it people. Love them or hate them. They are a family. If it really bothers you there are plenty of other threads for you to visit. You will never change a true Jolie Pitt fan no matter how hard you try.
You are just making them more popular by adding the number of comments tho their threads. Do you see anyone else with so many responses. We jolie Pitt fans look forward to the threads about them. The more the merrier we are…………………Keep up the good work JJ

Hmmm, I guess the old Brad/Angie-are-splitting-up refrain had been quieted down by their very affectionate photos at the Broadway show Jump, so now the haters have to carp on something else. Now it’s either Angie’s clothes or the $100,000 they are reportedly spending at the Waldorf-Astoria. I guess when you look hard enough at someone you can always, always find fault. What miserable lives these haters have, coming to these threads and typing their fingers to the bone, always beeyotching.

Why don’t you go find a Britney thread — now there’s plenty to beeyotch about with this woman: her clothes (or lack of it), her parenting skills, her being an attention and media-wh*re, even the fact that she actually wrecked Shar Jackson and Kevin Federline’s family. You can go to town on Britney Spears. Yet surprisingly so many haters still badger Angelina Jolie, a woman who has been there, done that and then turned her life completely around.

Just a side note about the trolls. The Jolie Pitt haters are bragging at their Jolie Obsession site that they are posting here just to try to get banned by Jared. One of them bragged they they spent hours here on Sunday goading posters with posts ragging on Angie’s looks. They were actually upset when they were ignored. A couple of them claim that they were banned from here for simply not liking Jolie.

It’s an odd obsession they have. They have more pics of the JPs there than JJ has here.

Guli,

Hi! I just read about your daughter’s injury. Hope she recovers soon.
Am glad she has a sense of humor about it, choosing a pink cast to be stylish. That should help her recover even faster.

Guli,

I know you don’t know me. Just need to say that I hope your daughter is getting better.
Take care now and God Bless.

There are MORE QUALIFIED people to sit on those panels and conferences. THAT is REALITY. I’m soorry you are a delusional fan and can’t face reality.
Angelina just takes up space because of the press and attention she can bring.
********************************************

The press and the attention translate into donations, which the organizations desperately need in order to operate.

I won’t tax your limited intelligence with any more than that.

Because they have more scholarity? Angelina has been working with the UN for more than 6 years, has been in more than 20 countries and worked with worked with field staff and meet the refugees. And she studies, and before she goes to some place is informed about the country the situation.

Give a name of a “qualified person”, that can top that?

I repeat: It’s not the fans that say she is qualified and that she makes the difference, but people like Colin Powell, Clinton, Guteres…

guli, Glad to hear R is doing better! She heal up just fine, she was in tip top shape to begin with Left you a post at JJB. Why do I have the feeling within a couple of days she’ll be doing tricks on her crutches! (((Hugs to both of you)))

Guli - My thoughts and prayers are w/your daughter as she in on the mend, even though her mom is a tried and true Buckeye fan. As an alumni of U-M and currently working on my Master’s there, this has been a painful year thus far (at least football related). You gotta be loving your Buckeyes, as well you should. I don’t post much, but do lurk when I can.

This is my 1st time to post. I just like to let you guys know that for a bored stay home mom you certainly give me afternoon entertainment.

Anyway, Im a new JP fan. I am not really interested on celebrities until a few months ago when the JPs caught my attention because of their charity work and dedication to their children. I also have an adopted child from Asia.

Let’s applaud this family. They give us inspiration.

EXACTLY. All they want is attention, and when you don’t give a pest attention, it becomes disappointed and disappears. These trolls REALLY become more and more angry whenever a happy family picture of the Jolie-Pitts surfaces. They see that their hate is not affecting Brad and Angie and they become more obsessed. I do feel sorry for them.

Tijen—they were at practice Sunday getting ready for a competition R was getting ready for her tumbling pass and her team-mate was coming towards her to do her back-hand spring tuck,she lost her balance and landed on R. breking her tibia and fibula :-( :-(
She is a tough cookie plus all of her friends have been coming over. She wants to go back to school on Thursday!!!! Heck I would take two weeks off :-)

#119: you are taking up space right here but you don’t see yourself as superfluous, do you?

What do you want done to Angie? You want her to stay hidden in her hotel room or do you want her obliterated altogether? Seems to me your problem is you don’t want her to be seen or heard from by anybody cause you feel inadequate and irrelevant even further.

Maybe you should disappear and save the space in the mental hospital the trouble.

Oh I see the “morality” and the “decency” police is out in full force.

Please go to continue your prayers for a Bennifer #3 and for a family with a little child to break just for your idol to get a man. That’s where your so called “morality” ends. And then you dare to call others names and have a problem with how they dress.

Look at your selves before you pass harsh judgment on anyone. Look at your hypocrisy.

trolls under fan`s skin alert!!!!people maybe you didn`t read her post before but she is one so called Angie`s fan who hates Brad. now she defends angie in her post but before in other threads she attacked brad with her post.

you can do something with other trolls because they show themself but this one Not, just tell you please ignore her as much as other, suddenly she will say something negetive about brad in her positive post. so people be aware of this kind of so called fans.
——————————————
The regulars are fully aware on her case. Don’t worry. She is a nutcase just like Ritzy. As we all know Ritzy thinks that everything that goes wrong in this world is Angie’s fault and Wobbler thinks the same about Brad.

Although Ritzy snarks about Brad too sometimes and Wobbler snarks about Angie as well but they always blame the other.

Kind of like “Why Brad is doing this?? It’s Angie’s fault” and “Why Angie is doing that?? It’s Brad’s fault!”

That’s their mentality.

They are also changing multiple names here and on other sites to bash each of them. When they post with their regular names they use the passive aggressive way but when they post with their other aliases they post as pure trolls or so called fans.

They can be very easily recognizable of course. So just laugh and ignore.

My prayers go out to your child. I know all will work out find, Dont worry

On bunch of Korean news shows, they had segments on the Jump show with footage of Brad and Angelina. I think the camera crew that was there to shoot the show spent quite a bit of time filming the Jolie-Pitts. Brad and Angelina sat next to each other with Pax. Maddox sat in front of them with the Aronson family. Before the show, they were flipping through the playbill and talking to each other. During the show, Angelina was really enjoying the show with huge smile on her face and Brad was sitting comfortably, smiling and chewing gum. Maddox was smiling. When they were leaving, the news crew followed them out to ask how they enjoy the show, Angie said it was amazing and Brad said it was great. But then the crew kept following them out onto the sidewalk! At that point Brad just told them, “Ok man, let it go, yeah?” and they were left alone.

TAOJJ Review: NEW Republic @ 10/09/2007 at 9:10 pm

The Majestic Assassination of Jesse James
by Christopher Orr
Only at TNR Online
Post date: 10.05.07
Gentleman bandit. Heartless killer. Confederate martyr. Rank opportunist. Inspiration. Abomination. Jesse James has been considered all of the above by various people at various times, but Andrew Dominik’s The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is largely agnostic regarding such disputes. The film is concerned less with the content of James’s character than with the meaning of his murder. Insofar as it asks a question, it is whether a man who has been elevated to myth can continue to coexist with mere mortals. The answer is right there in the title.

The film opens in September 1881, seven months before its titular act. James (Brad Pitt) is 34 years old and living in Kansas City under the name Thomas Howard. The legendary James-Younger gang–which had for years preyed upon banks, stagecoaches, trains, and even a county fair–is no more, its members all caught or killed, save for James and his older brother Frank (Sam Shepard). For a final train robbery, the two men assemble a motley crew of “petty thieves and country rubes,” among them Charley Ford (Sam Rockwell) and his young brother Bob (Casey Affleck), an uncomfortably eager young outlaw. Frank does not take to the boy (”You don’t have the ingredients, son,” he explains), but Jesse is less discerning: “I don’t care who comes with me, never have. That’s why they call me gregarious.”

The train job takes place at night in the Missouri woods, and Dominik stages the scene with uncommon beauty. The gang has thrown a lumber barricade across the tracks and, as the locomotive approaches it, its lone eye shines like a porthole to another world. If the opening heist in 3:10 to Yuma, the season’s first attempt at revivifying the Western, had all the rowdiness of a sporting event, The Assassination’s resembles opera. It is the first of many wonders in a stately epic that, at two hours and forty minutes, takes its time and rewards those willing to do the same.

he robbery itself goes smoothly enough, but the associations it entailed will gradually prove fraught. Frank James soon abandons the gang to move East, leaving Jesse with no comrades beyond the miscreants assembled for the job: his cousin Wood Hite (Jeremy Renner); hyperarticulate ladies’ man **** Liddil (Paul Schneider); slow, nervous Ed Miller (Garret Dillahunt); and, of course, Charley and Bob Ford.

The bulk of the film concerns itself with the shifting dynamics between these men, the affection and jealousies, alliances and betrayals. The others are all in awe of James, but terrified of him, too, and not without reason. The tension is most acute for young Ford, who has kept a stash of Jesse James storybooks under his bed since youth. He craves James’s attention with a lover’s ardor; for him, the famous outlaw is tonic and talisman, an opportunity to transcend his dismal existence. “I been a nobody all my life,” he confesses at one point. “And ever since I can remember it, Jesse James has been as big as a tree.”

James, for his part, has begun to shrink inside himself. Years of being hunted by lawmen and Pinkertons have taken their toll, burying his gregariousness under layers of paranoia and superstition. He is a man who knows that death is coming for him but is uncertain from which direction.

The temptation for Pitt to deliver a Big Performance in such a role must have been considerable, but he (and Dominik) wisely opt for understatement. Unlike Russell Crowe’s Ben Wade in Yuma, James is a man with nothing left to prove, no one he needs to impress. His legend, already secure, is evident less in his own demeanor than in that of the people around him. “Rooms seemed hotter when he was in them,” an authorial voiceover declares at the opening of the film, and, not infrequently, we see the sweat on his companions’ brows.

This becomes an ever more common occurrence as the film progresses and James’s suspicion that his men might betray him grows. As he calmly interrogates one gang member or another, his reputation hovers around him like black smoke, sapping their resolve even as it bolsters his own. There are a few occasions when he resorts to his pistol; more typically, an ominous, attentive silence is weapon enough.

One might expect Ford, with his nervous smile and schoolboy bravado, to be the first to crack, but he manages to endure James’s scrutiny even as he prepares to betray him. “I got qualities that don’t come shining through right at the outset,” Ford announces at one point, and while it’s a laughable boast, it is not an entirely empty one. Ford’s glaring weaknesses do mask underlying strengths, and Affleck captures the contradiction with skill, hugging the line between sympathetic and merely pitiable.

The rest of the cast, too, is exceptional. Shepard, unsurprisingly, seems an actor born for Westerns who’s had the misfortune of working in an era when there have been few worthy ones made. Rockwell and (especially) Schneider give sharp, telegraphic performances as members of the ill-fated gang. Even peripheral characters–Mary-Louise Parker as James’s wife, Zee; Kailin See as the unhappy bride of a despised old man–make the most of limited screen time thanks to Dominik’s meticulous direction and the literate script he adapted from Ron Hansen’s eponymous novel.

To describe the film as a breakthrough for Dominik would be to damn it with understatement. The director’s only previous outing, the Australian film Chopper (2000), was a fascinating criminal psychoportrait, but it had nothing approaching the epic sweep, narrative texture, or sheer cinematic ambition of The Assassination. It is true that the film could perhaps be a touch shorter (an earlier cut ran to more than three hours), but Dominik’s unhurried pace and care for detail offer rewards in every scene.

He is immeasurably aided by the contributions of cinematographer Roger Deakins. His luminous landscapes are reminiscent of Terrence Malick; his interior shots, often candle-lit, are compositions of light and shadow as elegant as oil paintings. Had Rembrandt lived in 19th century Missouri, this is what his work would have looked like. Deakins, who is probably best known for his work with the Coen brothers, is enjoying a remarkable run this year, having also shot Paul Haggis’s In the Valley of Elah and the Coens’ upcoming No Country for Old Men. At Oscar time, the question may come down to which film he wins for.

n the end, though, it is the thematic richness of Dominik’s film that makes it not only the best film of the year so far but a strong contender for the greatest Western since Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in the West nearly 40 years ago. Like most modern variations on the genre, The Assassination takes the form of an elegy, not merely for the Old West but for the Western itself. Yet Dominik succeeds in conjuring a sense of loss deeper than that of era or genre: the loss of the belief, naive but nonetheless sustaining, that giants might still walk the earth.

In Once Upon a Time in the West, the gunmen who once bestrode the American wilderness were pushed aside by commerce and technology, the relentless encroach of civilization. In Dominik’s more melancholy telling, they were laid to rest by wannabes, boys with picture books and pop guns and a gnawing hunger for notoriety. After Ford shoots James, he briefly becomes a national icon–more recognized, for a time, than the president–but it is an empty, parasitic fame, the ghost-twin of James’s legend. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is the story of this transition, of the moment in America when myth was murdered by mere celebrity and we were left, perhaps forever, with only the latter’s meager consolations.

SB depot to be film set
Eastwood directing movie starring Jolie

SAN BERNARDINO - “The Cat in the Hat” careened down Antique Row in Pomona, the “Transformers” smashed into a bus on the 210 Freeway, and the former site of Fontana’s Kaiser Steel transformed into a German factory in “Mission Impossible III.”

Hollywood will return to the Inland Empire in a few weeks. This time, the set will be at the historic San Bernardino Santa Fe Depot, for the Clint Eastwood-directed “The Changeling.”

It’s going to be a juggling act for the train station, because the depot will be open for business while filming is under way.

“This is going to be a challenge for sure,” said Mike Fortunato, property manager for the depot.

Crews are scheduled to film in San Bernardino Oct. 23-25, but will be setting up and tearing down a week before and after filming. Fortunato said an old train will be set on the tracks for the shoot.

“The scene does involve an old railroad station, but not the one in San Bernardino. It’s to replicate another Southern California station,” Fortunato said.

He did not know if the film’s star, Angelina Jolie, would be on set during the three-day shoot. Universal Pictures officials released few details about the film and said the movie set would be closed to the media.

Meanwhile, the depot’s Metrolink and Amtrak service won’t be interrupted.

“The Changeling,” based on actual events in the 1920s in Los Angeles, focuses on a woman (Jolie) whose son is kidnapped. The boy is eventually returned, but she soon suspects he is not hers, according to the Internet Movie Database. The woman then confronts corruption in the Los Angeles Police Department, according to Variety.com.

It is scheduled for release in November 2008.

LOL..asan ang sulat mo? hinihintay ko!

To ALL you BAMPZS lovers:

I had the privilege to work on the Burn After Reading set today and Brad Pitt was there to film (George was not in these scenes).

AJ, Maddox and Z visited him on the set.

1st….OMG! Z is absolutely GORGEOUS! She was in Brad’s arms and was sucking her thumb as I waved to her. I told him how beautiful she was and with a proud look on his face, thanked me.

2nd: Maddox is a handsome little boy who almost crashed into me while playing.

3rd: Angie is beautiful, she did look a little fuller then I have seen in pictures.

4th: I have to say they were very nice, but I didn’t interact with them much.. It was wild how I was literally a few feet from them for about 2 or 3 hours. It was a completely closed set so no paparazzi were allow inside, but I only heard of 2 trying to get in, because nobody really knew they were there. AJ and BP with really cuddly and affectionate. They all played around on the grass, playing catch and batting. They really were having a great family outing. Because of all the negative things I hear about them, it was truly great to see how they interact when nobody was really watching. I got to see them in a truly different light.

Also some of the people that have worked with them, say not to believe what is said in the newspaper/magazines about them.

So I just wanted to give you my experience with the Brangelina bunch when they are not in the public eye.

It was truly nice.

(sorry if some things don’t make sense. I was on set from 6am-7pm, it was my first production job and I am seriously exhausted)

on a side-not: I LOVED my 1st movie production experience. I was so appreiciative that my school got me an opportunity to be a part of an amazing set filming on my campus.

TAOJJ Review: NEW Republic : 10/09/2007 at 9:10 pm

==========================================================

Thanks for posting this review. I’m sure Brad is gratified by thoughtful reviews such as these. This film is obviously a labor of love for all those involved in the crafting of a film that will stand as one of the best in the genre. It appears that all the extra time spent in shaping this film have been well worth it.

A fine feather in Brad’s cap and it sounds like it will be the making of Casey’s career as well. It’s clear too that Brad will become a powerhouse in film making. Must just set the anti-fans teeth on edge to know that pretty-boy Brad had all this depth hiding behind that so pretty face.

Guli, I hope your daughter heals quickly.Hopefully she won’t have to be in a cast too long.

work it mama!! Maddox is such a cutie.

the whole truth @ 10/09/2007 at 10:31 pm

220 ?

Thanks for bringing that over. I read it yesterday on E! and did not have time to bring it over here. That explains where Angie, Mad, and Z were going yesterday (Monday) when the evil paps said Z was ***************** as she sucked her thumb. I am happy they manage to get some privacy in their lives. All who have actually been around AJ and BP say the same thing, they are loving and affectionte with each other and have a happy close family. When they go back to LA there will be fewer pixs of them if the past repeats itself. Brad and Angie may be seen going to work, Brad will most likely be taking the kids to school while Angie is filming.

Dear Guli, so sorry to hear about your daughter’s injury. Such a trial for a young one to drag a cast around for weeks. Tell her to rock it for all us BAMPZS fans and get well soon.

From OREGON LIVE @ 10/09/2007 at 10:34 pm

From OREGON LIVE:

“Portland isn’t New York or LA or Chicago or San Francisco or Miami or even Seattle; no one needs reminding.

But we’re a great film town.

And some day the big Hollywood studios will figure that out and trust the judgment of the people who know this market in booking their films here.

I have a fr’instance to share.

For several weeks, we in the Portland film press have been waiting for Warner Bros. to fish or cut bait with “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” which has been playing in bigger towns since September 21 but wasn’t even listed on the local release calendar here as of Monday (i.e., yesterday) morning.

That’s how it often works with small-release films. Distributors try to get a sense of how they’re doing in bigger markets before investing in sending them out to smaller towns, and the release dates in someplace like Portland can shift as the fortunes of the films vary.

Fair enough.

But “Jesse James” isn’t being released by Paramount Vantage or the Weinstein Company. It’s coming from Warner Bros. And those folks ought to know better; “ought to” being the key words.

Yesterday after lunch, a regional WB publicity rep e-mailed me in a panic with the news that “Jesse” would be opening in Portland THIS FRIDAY and needed to be screened for the press here immediately. As it is an epic of 160 minutes, and as films were already slotted for the regular screening times last night, this afternoon, this evening and tomorrow afternoon, it seemed impossible to work it in before A&E’s late-Wednesday drop-deadline. But a time was found and the film will be seen and reviewed (in a brief, only) in Friday’s paper.

This isn’t really an ideal way to bring a movie to market. But, hey: I’m a newspaperman: responding to changing events is part of my job. This is why it involves huge checks, a chauffeur and a bottomless expense account.

But I can only respond with scorn to the spectacle of Warner Bros. treating their film with such dismissiveness and disdain. This was a film that received lots of publicity before its release and had a $30 million production budget (plus prints and ads — which, let’s face it, don’t cost as much when you dump the movie like this) . The reviews have been favorable from both critics and audiences. IT’S GOT BRAD PITT IN IT, for pity’s sake. Yet Warner Bros. sneaks it into Portland in a fashion that recalls nothing so much as the concert that was staged here this past weekend by neo-Nazi skinheads who had to lie about who they were to find a local Elks Lodge whose operators could be duped into hosting the event under false pretenses.

Now, I’m not comparing Warner Bros. to fascists. But, truly, I find their behavior nearly as difficult to understand. With this butterfingered, half-hearted, dead-brained stealth release, they’re making their film impossible for audiences to find. Here’s what “Jesse” won’t have enjoyed the benefit of when it opens on Friday: notice about its premiere in The Oregonian’s Sunday what’s-playing-this-week column; an ad in the Sunday paper announcing its debut; a review of more than 150 words in our Friday arts tabloid; print reviews in the other papers in town, which have deadlines even earlier than ours; and, in all likelihood, any chance to earn a buck.

I already count 11 features opening here on Friday, plus the Portland Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, plus a festival in Bend, plus the 10 films that opened last week and the 14 due to open next week. Amid that competition, “Jesse” would’ve had a fight on its hands if it had been brought to the market with care and forewarning. Treated like this — like stale food being tossed to homeless folks just to save the restaurant help the trouble of wrapping and storing it — it’s doomed. I don’t expect it to be showing anywhere in Portland in November. Maybe it would’ve done well here; maybe not. But it’s got no shot now. None.

And if the movie biz is anything like the book publishing biz, some day the producers and director will have another movie to make, and they’ll be told how poorly this one did and be treated less well accordingly.

And it won’t be their fault.

For shame, Warner Bros. For shame.”

———————————

WARNER BROS. is ******** the film BIG TIME!

VERY ELEGANT. AS ALWAYS.

that’s a cool story. I don’t understand why the haters haven’t moved on already. If they weren’t so interested in the Jolie-pitts most likely we wouldn’t see them as much. they would be like any other celeb couple ,But because the haters and lovers NEED to see them and talk about them 24/7 the demand is high and they are always being followed because the papz know they can make money with them. ugh! You are all making their lives hell in paparazzi land!

Oh Guli,

I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s injury but sounds like she is on the mend… As a mom I even get really upset seeing my daughter coming home with a HUGE mosquito bite! What can we do… we are mommies! Hope R gets well soon!

You know guys, if ever they make a sexy movie about Jackie O, Angie would really make a good fit judging from these pics. They should do the time she had to marry Onassis up to the time she became editor in NY. They could make Ciaran Hinds as Ari but the British actor is too tall for the role, I think.

I must say that I have also been questioning WB’s poor release of AOJJ. If I didn’t know better, I’d think that they really don’t want to make any money off it. Brad did quite a bit of much promotion for it a few weeks ago, that was the time for a wide release. To do it now, when there are no promotions ongoing, does not make much sense to me. JMO.

Oh GMAB! the oceans movies are not Brad pitt movies. it had a big cast and it wasn’t riding on one big star. if was just a brad movie or just a george movie it would have bombed . matt damon is the only one out of the o13 men who can open a movie now. george movies have always done crappy at the box office.

PALISADES, N.J. (CBS) ― Just weeks after George Clooney was injured in a motorcycle accident and taken to Palisades Medical Center, CBS 2 HD has exclusively learned that dozens of employees, including doctors and nurses, have been suspended for accessing Clooney’s confidential information.

The 46-year-old actor suffered a broken rib and road rash while a companion riding with him suffered a broken foot in the collision with another vehicle.

Within minutes, the media seemed to know everything about Clooney’s condition, and sources tell CBS 2 HD that hospital officials are now investigating whether or not their own employees may have leaked information about Clooney to the media.

CBS 2 HD has learned as many as 40 employees are being investigated, with more than two dozen already suspended without pay after being accused of accessing Clooney’s medical records and giving that information to the press — which is a violation of federal law.

A union spokesperson who represents some of the workers addressed the issue to CBS 2 HD:

“It was inappropriate but they are paying a steep price. But I don’t even think George Clooney would want people to pay. Again, the apology to him for his privacy rights [is necessary], but I think in fact the hospital is overreacting,” says Jean Oterson of the HPAA.

Clooney agreed in a statement issued on Tuesday evening:

“This is the first I’ve heard of it. And while I very much believe in a patient’s right to privacy, I would hope that this could be settled without suspending medical workers.”

Sources say while doctors were tending to Clooney’s injuries, employees not involved with his care logged into the hospital computer system to review his medical records. CBS 2 HD has learned a security guard even gave out the number to one of Clooney’s family members.

“It’s egregious that these hospital personnel gave out this information,” said Rosemarie Arnold, an attorney who has handled cases of this nature.

“Obviously the information was leaked to the press. Because the press had the information and the only people who were privy to the information were the hospital personnel,” Arnold said.

In a statement to CBS 2 HD, the hospital said they take any violation of a law seriously and they are investigating.

THANKS JANICE FOR THE UPDATE! My earlier total was through 10/7/2007. AMH is chugging along, has not opened in Israel, Japan, or Australia and a number of other countries yet, and will be opening through early next year.

Guli, I hope all is well with your daughter. God bless.Goodnight all the fans around the world.

Wow - so classy. Love the bra sticking out - not. She tries to be elegant, but the tattoos, plastic surgery and anorexia kind of defeat the purpose. Oh well, her and Chinny make a good pair.

She is unlikely to be dressed for any UN type of meeting. Notice that she always dresses conservatively with her hair swept back almost bouffon style to add credibility and reduce her sexual appeal. In the Australia papers last Saturday, there was an article about the UNHCR’s Commissioner ( I think his name is Rund) under investigation for inappropriate behaviour, including groping Angelina Jolie. She knows that she needs to play down her Hollywood appeal at UN functions and meetings.

Yo ariel!!!! Hiya my cyber buddy I was just signing off. Thank you so much….I saw your post at JJB’s as well. You are such a great cyber buddy :-) As you know I am a night owl and determined to finish that sock to match her cast tonight…Catch you tomorrow…

The real lou—you like knitting too ??? I actually am much better at crochet than knitting I started when I was about 8 when my grandma taught me. I find it so calming also I get a sense of accomplishment when I finish it.
My next one is a baby quilt for my next door neighbor, she is due in December :-)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

My personal view is that the people who leaked the information to the PRESS should be suspended without pay for their carelessness. Those who SOLD the information to the PRESS should be SACKED. The people who leaked the patient information TO THE PRESS, knew that breach of patient confidentiality is very very serious matter.

Madd looks great with his jacket. Very cool. Angelina is gorgeous as usual.

Angie looks good in any color but she carries the black color very well. Maybe she’s going to one of her philantropic works.

I’m not even sure if the item of clothing peeping out is a bra and not part of the top she is wearing which is intended to suggest a bra.

Anyway, who cares. Camisoles and corsets were once undergarments. These days, they are worn as much outter as under the garments.

Oh nooooooooooooooooooooo, not skantaglina and her black suit!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the update. Good to see it’s pretty much made back its costs before it’s through with its theatrical release. I’ve never seen the figures on marketing. The DVD comes out on Oct 16 I think. Plenty of time for AMPAS voters to see it.

It is an excellent movie. I was very impressed with it and Winterbottom. Still great buzz for Jolie and award season. Jolie, Christie and Cotillard are still maintaining steady kudos. So unusual to get the 3 best actress performances of the year so early in the season. But that’s how it’s turning out.

The Australian reviews are really glowing for both the movie and Jolie.

Oh nooooooooooooooooooooo, not skankiston and her orange face!!!!!!!!

^^^^ So true.

I don’t know what that is peeking out of her top. If it was her bra then why wouldn’t it be showing the same on the other side?

I think she is pregnant!!!!! She wore black alot when she was pregnant with shiloh.

Orgun nasil gidiyor? Ben de pek guzel beceremedigim halse orguyu cok severim. Umarim R’nin fazla agrisi yoktur.

I don’t know Denise, she wears black a lot, period. I have leaned toward pregnant but hmmmmmmmm, just don’t know. She could hide her stomach for a while with undergarments. What are those things called? Spanx? That would hold her in and give her another couple of months to hide it. I do think her breasts have gotten bigger lately but that could just be a bit of weight coming back since her grief has eased a bit.

May just be all us fans doing some wishful thinking. I’ve always thought she would not get pregnant right now since she has the Clint Eastwood movie coming up this month but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see……….

Remember FRIENDS and ER?

======================================================================

Seems to me the only thing Warner is loyal to is the dollar bill. I can’t see them wanting to make less money to seem loyal to Aniston and Clooney.

I think they are depending on that old marketing technique: not enough to go around. How many more Cabbage Patch Dolls and beanie babies were sold because they were always out of them? Seems to me that would work just as well here. Too few theatres showing the movie, making people wait until it comes to their area, get lots of talk and word-of-mouth going for them and the movie markets itself.

ITA. Jolie had a big chance of being nominated, she together with Julie Christie, the French actress were always mention by the critics for a possible oscar nom. next year. I think Cate B. was a sure a bet for best supporting actress for her role as Bob Dylan, but we didn’t heard much on her performance in Elizabeth, the Golden age.

Under federal law there are criminal and civil penalties for distributing confidential patient information without the patient’s consent.

My previous job was in a hospital. There is no way you give out medical details to anyone but the people requested by the patient.

A mental health inpatient once asked me for details of their estranged relative. Just imagine what could happen if I gave it out.

Medical Staff should know better. They deal with these issues every day.

I’m glad GC didn’t take the soft option and say they were being unfairly treated.

Good morning Brangelina fans, she must have gone to a meeting when she pick up Maddie at school. I wonder when they are leaving for L.A? Is Brad going to attend London Film Festival on October 19? I never get tired of Jolie - Pitt photos. I can’t believe they are photographed so much and they still pay little attention to fashion. I think I would become a fashion victim like Posh. Jolie’s got a completely different appeal. Timeless and classic elegance. We care more about her than what she is wearing.

Always love the photos JJ! Keep it up.

i would love to greet people who really attract me to JJ/BAMPZS: real tita, andromeda, estelle spunky,afican girl, missouri fan(you’re so fun) , guli(your daughter will remove soon) and preggy jolie(always leaks nice video).
people used to hate AJ because she got all one could wish for: i mean a lovely man, a rising career, beautiful children.In the past, they never act like that towards Jolie because although she got all one could wish for, she was a single mom.Now she leads a fullfilled life and that make people lost theit ****.I know it because i did.But unlike the hater, AJ gives me the chance to still hope to find my soulmate one day.I mean she the proof that love comes when you’re not expected it.
By the way, this is why i love your video preggy jolie.

I am finding the marketing on Brad and Angelina’s latest movies very interesting. I wish AMH had been handled the way TAOJJ is being handled, a very limited and slow release to build up interest and a release in the fall. I also wish TAOJJ had been handled the way AMH was, with a more wide release. I also find it interesting that you can clearly see George Clooney’s push for Oscar beginning about right now, starting with David Letterman’s appearance talking about how George’s films are so respected. His film is being heavily promoted while Brad’s is not. I just find the whole workings of Hollywood very intriguing.

George lives and dies for Hollywood, the industry adores him he does everything to the industry to love him. Brad is not like that, plus George already has an oscar and the movies he directed had been well recived, George is in another league.

Michael Clayton and Jesse James are 2 differents kind of movies, Clayton is more mainstreet, Jesse James is an art house movie.

A good comparation will be Jesse James and Into the Wild. Into the wild is doing better box office wise.

Warner is well know for ignoring smaller movies and focus on the big daddies, just like they did last year with Leo D.

AMH was a mess from the beggining, from my point of view, there were mistakes from the go and the movie didn’t have a chance at all.

Warner Bros is in the process of killing TAOJJ. The film should be retitled to “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Warner Brothers.”

For shame.”

From Holly-wood Elsewhere

Pheonix-based entertainment journalist Henry Cabot Beck wrote earlier today to report that “here in Arizona it was announced yesterday that despite The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford opening this Friday in Phoenix, it’s been decided at the last minute not to screen it for critics.

“It was touch-and-go yesterday for about an hour with the talk being that they might screen it tonight (Tuesday) with a one-day notice,” he adds. “Depending on how this shakes out, this could mean that Jesse James has become the most lauded, worst-treated movie of the year.

“Everybody’s split on the picture, but some feel that Andrew Dominik’s film is one of the best of the year. I fall a bit over into that camp. A Brad Pitt picture with some Oscar buzz, a couple of amazing performances — even if you don’t like the movie overall — and they’re treating it like a one-weekend horror ****.”

Warner Bros is in the process of killing TAOJJ. The film should be retitled to “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Warner Brothers.”

Thank you so much for bringing that information here. I’m glad that the paps listen to Brad and left them to return to their hotel in peace. They really enjoyed the show.

As for the set story he/she didn’t say anything we haven’t heard or read before from people who have worked with Brad and Angie such as directors and co-stars. Angie has visited Brad on set already and I’m sure she has visited many times we have not heard off.

This people have a REAL life behind all this tabloids trash that surrounds them. They love their family and each other and they are living their lives. It’s just that simple.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

IA. that you can see George’s push for Oscar. But I don’t agree that Brad’s film was not heavily promoted. I saw trailers for AAOJJ long before it came out. Also Brad did a heavy push with PR as far as interviews both televsion and mags and RC appearances. I just think the difference is his came out in limited relaease and George’s movie is coming out in wide release domestically hence why he is doing PR now. Also other than GMA Brad doesn’t seem to do talk shows anymore and George does letterman, Jay Leno, he has even done the view for certain movies.

Melissa

Get better every min.

I hope somebody is with you today.

Wish You Well!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was going to say that maybe the decisions behind had something to do with the direction of Brad’s career, specifically, his seeking out projects that are artistically challenging first and commercially lucrative, second. But yesterday, I lurked on Perez’s site (shame on me) and found this link about Warners:
http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/warners-robinoff-gets-in-catfight-with-girls/
I know that way back in the day, Warners was the company that produced gangster films and other films geared toward men, but they also cultivated actresses like Bette Davis. I honestly think that Warners have gone off the rails and are hedging their bets on anything and everything that aren’t sure bets. Sadly, TAOJJ is an art house film, geared toward a niche market, just like any film with a female lead is geared toward a niche market - women.
This probably got lost when I posted this yesterday. Brad Blanks was at the premiere of TAOJJ and he spoke to out favorite couple.
When a movie has a platform release, then there could be no simultaneous nation-wide promotion because of different release dates.
Promotion push (follow-up) should be done on the local level. As in the case of Portland and Arizona many are not aware that TAOJJ opens this Friday.
If you visit the official website of TAOJJ, there is barely information on its release schedule.
Exactly!!! AOJJ Expands in theaters every weekend. The movie gets rave reviews almost everywhere it’s been released and Brad’s performance gets huge recognition. I’m pretty sure both AMH and AOJJ will be nominated at the Oscars.
And please of course it would be in LIMETED release and then expand slowly. It’s an art film for Christ sake, not a blog buster and not even a classic western. It wasn’t going to be wide released and have a premiere at the same day in all over the world. The logic of the limited release and the slow expansion in various markets along with the great reviews the film receives and the screenings on many international festivals makes people who are interested to anticipate and the interest is growing. It makes great sense to me. I don’t get what the problem is.
From the articles I read it seems that some journalists are pissed solely to the fact that their hometowns are perceived as small markets and the delay of the film to be shown there is some kind of an insult to them.
I’m not saying that there were not mistakes made in promoting the film,it happens with small films. Crash wasn’t exactly promoted the way it should have but it still managed through very good word of mouth to win the oscar, when most didn’t think it had a chance against the heavily promoted Brokeback mountain. But I was answering the question on there been hardily any promotion for the film and that I disagree with. (see post 361)
I’m not saying that there were not mistakes made in promoting the film,it happens with small films. Also, it is being opened in wide release this weekend it can hardly have a local push for every theater that it is opening in. When it was opening it limited release yes I agree those areas should have had a PR push but since it is opening in wide release this weekend that is a mute point. Crash wasn’t exactly promoted the way it should have but it still managed through very good word of mouth to win the oscar, when most didn’t think it had a chance against the heavily promoted Brokeback mountain. I’m From Portland and I do understand the reviewers point of view. The people here really rely on the A&E section, they do a very good job on Their reviews, and really push for the public to see a Movie that They like. So that’s sucks that the review will not be in the paper this Friday.
In My Opinion the local levels can’t market it properly if the Movie critics can’t review it in time for the weekend Movie page.
Lynn Campbell @ 10/10/2007 at 9:46 am
Thanks to everyone for their replies. This is why I like JJ is to hear interesting discussions. When I was talking about promotion for the film I think I should have said advertising. Michael Clayton is being shown on tv commercials where I live three or four times a day and is really getting a lot of advertising money thrown at it. But as everyone has pointed out, it is a mainstream movie. I realize that TAOJJ is an art house film, but still you have one of the biggest movie stars in the world(especially internationally) in it who just won a major award and a lot of great reviews. Babel didn’t have much advertising money thrown at it either, but it ended up doing very well, so I hope TAOJJ will be the same.
367 think positive!
I liked your post but by the same token AMH is an art house movie, too, but it was marketed very differently. What is your take on why it was handled the way it was?
WARNER BROS is not doing its job of information dissemination.
Although it takes too much time, I am doing this just to let you know.
