Angelina Switches to Signature Black
Angelina Jolie switches from her white top and khakis into her signature black attire to pick up son Maddox, 6, from the Lycée Français de New York school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon.
Ange wore a black top, blazer, pencil skirt and a new pair of Jimmy Choo peep-toes. Mad wore his usual school uniform with a blazer to boot.

I have nothing against this woman or her kids, but really…do we need to see her coming in and out of that school every #$*& day????
I’m bored with this couple now. Perfect example of over-exposure.

Thank you so much about that. It’s too bad that they have to wait for so long in some places. But damn everybody who’ve seen it loves it!!! That’s really great!!

These posts are heartening, mainly because of their passion. TAOJJ is no Good Luck Chuck, so I can understand some caution in distributing this movie, but still, I really want to see it now.
But I’m not willing to drive to Illinois.

I am finding the marketing on Brad and Angelina’s latest movies very interesting. I wish AMH had been handled the way TAOJJ is being handled, a very limited and slow release to build up interest and a release in the fall. I also wish TAOJJ had been handled the way AMH was, with a more wide release. I also find it interesting that you can clearly see George Clooney’s push for Oscar beginning about right now, starting with David Letterman’s appearance talking about how George’s films are so respected. His film is being heavily promoted while Brad’s is not. I just find the whole workings of Hollywood very intriguing.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
IA. that you can see George’s push for Oscar. But I don’t agree that Brad’s film was not heavily promoted. I saw trailers for AAOJJ long before it came out. Also Brad did a heavy push with PR as far as interviews both televsion and mags and RC appearances. I just think the difference is his came out in limited relaease and George’s movie is coming out in wide release domestically hence why he is doing PR now. Also other than GMA Brad doesn’t seem to do talk shows anymore and George does letterman, Jay Leno, he has even done the view for certain movies.
+++++++++++++++
Peaches - I’ve got to disagree. Since we found out that AOJJ was coming out on Sept 21 I haven’t seen any TV ads for it, or print ads in regular magazines. If I didn’t come to the J-P threads here I wouldn’t have known anything about the movie. Hell, I live about 200 miles from where Jesse James lived. I’m 300 miles from Brad’s hometown in Springfield…and I live in the city where Brad went to college. I talked to my sister in St. Loo…she’s never even heard of the movie. If Missouri isn’t getting ads on a new Jesse James movie…then who is? The movie is opening in Missouri on Friday in 3 theaters - two of which are located in the most upscale theaters in the state. That says everything about Warner’s marketing of this movie that I need to know.

I was going to say that maybe the decisions behind had something to do with the direction of Brad’s career, specifically, his seeking out projects that are artistically challenging first and commercially lucrative, second. But yesterday, I lurked on Perez’s site (shame on me) and found this link about Warners:
http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/warners-robinoff-gets-in-catfight-with-girls/
I know that way back in the day, Warners was the company that produced gangster films and other films geared toward men, but they also cultivated actresses like Bette Davis. I honestly think that Warners have gone off the rails and are hedging their bets on anything and everything that aren’t sure bets. Sadly, TAOJJ is an art house film, geared toward a niche market, just like any film with a female lead is geared toward a niche market - women.

Interesting take on the sitch, Piper. I don’t think it’s as complicated as all that - Plan B used to be contractually tied to Warners…now they’re not. When Brad got control of Plan B in the divorce, he took it to Paramount with his buddy Brad Grey. I always thought Warner’s was an odd choice for an alliance for him anyway, but as someone upthread pointed out - they produced Friends and X was a partner in Plan B. I figured he signed with Warners because of X and when he ditched X he ditched everything to do with her - including his production partnership with Warners. Then again, y’all know I love nothing better than a good conspiracy theory!
PT, tp, pwal and other BAMPZS fans have fun.

I live in Virginia and I saw trailers for AAOJJ for a month on television before it came out in limtied release. I have not seen ads for it since it came out and it isn’t playing in my area it is playing in Northern Virginia.
While print ad and televsion is the most effective way to market and mind you I am not in anyway saying that Warner has not made some mistakes in marketing this movie I just disagree that it has not been marketed at all, which is what some are saying. Brad did all the RC, the enetertainment shows talked about it everytime he and Angie walked the carpet. He did the mag (parade just hit the stand last week) interviews and GMA. He didn’t do any night time shows and I think he should have, at least one. But all of that is a form of advertising. Has Warner missed opportunities with this movie, yes they have but to say there wasn’t any advvertising before hand I just can’t agree with.

Crash didn’t have one of the hottest actors on the planet and one of the biggest tabloid “stars”. The fact that Warners is UNDER-MARKETING A BRAD PITT movie should raise a few eyebrows and I’m sure people in the industry are talking about it the same way we are. AOJJ - despite having a divisive affect on critics, is a movie that for the most part has gotten very positive reviews and any other studio would be playing up Brad’s Venice FF Best Actor award and promoting the hell out of this movie even if they were starting with a limited release schedule. The fact that TV ads are non-exisitent says a lot. Yes, AOJJ is an art film…BUT, it’s a BRAD PITT ART FILM. That makes it a whole other beast.

I don’t disagree with you. I disagree with the people who were saying that they was little to no advertising before the movie came out. I know there was I saw it on my televsion screen. Now have I seen it since the movie came out? No, I have not and I think that is where they made a mistake, there is no follow up. Brad can’t be expected to promote the movie all by himself, which is what he is basically doing. I agree with what you are saying there should at the very least be tv ads about his win at Venice. I can’t image what there reasoning would be to do this to a movie that has such great oscar buzz and I hope this doesn’t hurt his chances come award season.
384 think positive! : 10/10/2007 at 10:28 am
Hey Lynn!! Yes. Advertising is the right word indeed. Well Babel didn’t even have the half promotion the AOJJ had but it did really well worldwide in the end as you said. So it’s a bit early to say anything.
+++++++++++++++
Gotta disagree TP. Babel was far more heavily promoted than AOJJ currently is. The print ads AND tv commericials were everywhere. You live in Greece, so you’re not able to witness firsthand the amount of promotion that’s going on in the States with this movie. I still haven’t seen a TV add for AOJJ. Some people got the clip off one of the entertainment shows and that’s where I saw it. Other than that, I have yet to be watching TV and see an ad for the movie. I haven’t seen a print ad in any magazines either. I watch a lot of sports, visit sports sites, read sports magazines. This isn’t a shoot ‘em up Western and it is an art film, and typically westerns are markets to men not women, but I’m just not seeing ads for this movie anywhere. I flipped through the most recent GQ with Ben Affleck on the cover…I didn’t see many movie ads in the mag at all, but definitely not one for AOJJ. If anyone else is seeing print and tv ads, please tell me where. I live in freaking Missouri and really thought I’d see more of a push for this movie here and there’s NADA.
Good morning, Yes. Hugs and kisses to you too.
No, am not at work right now, am at home. I work nights and sleep during the day, that’s is why am having a hard time trying to figure out when to go to see TAOJJ. I am awake in the mornings, and then go to sleep before noon. The movie will be showing in the afternoon. By the time I wake up, it’s about 6:00 p.m. and I have to go to work. Hopefully, when I take a day off next week, I will have a chance to see this movie and support Brad even though Warner’s is doing its best to cut down the movie. I mean, why even bother to make it if they were gonna treat it like a red-headed stepchild?

HOLY MOLY! Not only has Hell frozen over, but the Earth stood still, too! This is probably the first cover in 20 weeks that doesn’t have Angie on it! Maybe OuttaTouch’s braintrust is running out of lies to tell. Oh…I know what it is…it was a slow week here at JJ’s last week and we didn’t give them any ideas for this week’s cover!

Hey, how have you been??
+++++++++++
Hiya, Yes! I’m good. How ’bout yourself?
My take:
When Ben Affleck won the Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival, there was a flurry of ads for Hollywoodland. I know because I wasn’t even interested, and I remember seeing TV ads and the big push because Affleck won. For TAOJJ, there were no TV ads even after Brad won (there were newspaper ads with mention of the win, but that’s it). PT was right, I saw Babel commercials everywhere when it opened around this time last year. Now, for TAOJJ, zippo, zilch, nada. You would think that because Brad won he at least would get a boost from Warner. He must have really really ticked off a lot of people for them to treat his movie like it was chopped liver.

I don’t like when fans put blames on things they don’t know. If anyone has a real answer to the problem or what to do it’s okay. We as fans are not helping anyone by putting this informattion out that we are not sure about.

I saw this on opening night here in Dallas last weekend. Theater was packed, but the grumblings afterwards were noticeable. I personally feel its a stunning film, one of my very favs of the year. I love how patient the whole thing is. Just watch the expression on Casey Affleck’s face change in that one long shot as Jesse James joins his family for dinner. Or the unbearable tension built up when Jesse goes to visit the character of Ed Miller. Dominik has hit this one out of the park. I was enthralled from start to finish. It’s a shame the studio isn’t behind this more, but what can you expect after its production problems for so long.>
+++++++++++++++++++++
Now here’s an enlightening comment - maybe Warner’s is pissed that they didn’t get their way with this movie? They didn’t like the 160 minute cut and wanted more action scenes. Brad & Tony Scott really fought for their vision of the movie and Warners finally caved in. Maybe they’ve decided that they may have caved, but it doesn’t mean they have to promote the movie. They could be shooting themselves in the foot because they’re having a 2 year-old’s hissy fit because they didn’t get their way!

Piper - we actually have to take a “Code of Ethics” test every year! LOL! If we don’t pass it, then we have a HIPAA tutorial we have to take and pass. The hospital can have their accreditation pulled if their employees don’t abide by HIPAA’s patient confidentiality guidelines.
The one great thing about this conversation is that the responsibility for so many people’s disappointment is on Warner Brothers. The movie looks great; the acting is top notch and yet, Warners is having problems promoting it?
It’s just like AMH; good movie, good acting and yet it was such a struggle to market it properly? I think that if you reach a point where you can’t wrap your mind and your resources around something that is actually good, you need to go somewhere else.
