You know, I always love to see the pics of Brad and Angelina taken at Venice not too long ago. A lot of people didn’t like Angelina’s gown or Brad’s jacket, but I though they looked wonderful. I would love to see a W photoshoot of them with a theme of old Hollywood style, wearing the same type of clothes. It would be classy and sexy. Maybe something Casablanca-ish (is that a word?) If they ever do a movie again together and need to promote it, could someone who knows them suggest this LOL.

I just read about your daughter and her pink cast. So you must be better (because we worry so about our children). She’s young and will heal quickly. God is good all the time. If ever there was a sequel nobody needs, it’s Elizabeth: The Golden Age, a dull, picturesque continuation of Elizabeth, the 1998 epic that catapulted Cate Blanchett to stardom as England’s H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth I. Same star in new wigs, same director (Shekhar Kapur, who fails to make up for his disastrous remake of Four Feathers), same rehash of countless television and movie versions of the monarch’s life. (I prefer Helen Mirren, who played her memorably on TV, and Bette Davis, who played her twice on the big screen.) For this one more dance around the throne, prepare for panoply, pageantry and nearly two hours of punishment.

All told, Elizabeth: The Golden Age is a short view of history, overwhelmed by a shrill, cacophonous musical score, a pointless jumble of images that fail to connect and a tiresome script too modern for its own good. Hopefully, this is the last of a historic montage going nowhere. I dread the thought of an Elizabeth franchise.

Hollywood Interrupted also has an eyewitness account of the (same, we assume) group sale, claiming a purchase of 900 tickets for almost $9000. It’s not exactly churchloads of Christians renting out theaters to support Mel Gibson’s little movie about Jesus, but at least there were a couple of screenings here in L.A. with fewer available seats where suppressive moviegoers could titter at every perceived real-life parallel between Katie Holmes and the kidnapping of Cruise’s onscreen love.

Unusual MI3 Ticket Sales at Hollywood ArcLight Near Scientology Celeb Center

I have confirmed today that there has been an unusual pattern of ticket sales for Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 3 at Hollywood’s ArcLight Theater, which just happens to be located right near the Church of Scientology Celebrity Center where Cruise belongs. Unconfirmed anecdotes are circulating on the Internet this weekend of individuals buying hundreds of tickets at a time from the ArcLight. But an ArcLight employee did confirm to me just now that “people have been buying dozens of tickets at a time” for MI3, which is definitely an extraordinary sales pattern for the movie theater (or any theater, for that matter). Certainly, the “M” word — for manipulation — comes to mind.

Meanwhile, MI3’s opening weekend is near-disastrous.
