Angelina Jolie: Outstanding Performance of the Year
Academy Award and three-time Golden Globe winner Angelina Jolie will receive the Outstanding Performance of the Year Award for her performance in A Mighty Heart at The Santa Barbara International Film Festival early next year.
“We are honored to celebrate Ms. Jolie in what is arguably one of the most extraordinary female roles of the year,” said Festival executive director Roger Durling.
Angie will be honored on Feb. 2, 2008, the second-to-last day of the festival, which begins on Jan. 24, 2008.
Kate Winslet, Heath Ledger, and Helen Mirren have received this award in previous years.

SB Film Festival to Honor Angelina Jolie
Actress to Receive Outstanding Performance of the Year Award

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival announced Monday that Academy Award and three-time Golden Globe winner Angelina Jolie will receive its Outstanding Performance of the Year Award for her performance in A Mighty Heart, in which she portrays Mariane Pearl, wife of the kidnapped and executed journalist, Daniel Pearl. “We are honored to celebrate Ms. Jolie in what is arguably one of the most extraordinary female roles of the year,” Festival executive director Roger Durling said in a statement.
Past recipients of the award have gone to Kate Winslet, Heath Ledger, and Helen Mirren. Jolie received the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the 1999 film, Girl, Interrupted. She has also starred in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, when her highly publicized relationship with actor Brad Pitt began. She is the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand.
In the film, Jolie portrays her friend, Mariane Pearl, during the two-week period between when her husband, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, was kidnapped and when he was murdered by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002. The movie is based on Mariane Pearl’s memoir.
Jolie will be honored on Feb. 2, 2008, the second-to-last day of the festival, which begins on Jan. 24, 2008. Tickets are on-sale to the event, which will take place at the Arlington Theatre. For more information, visit http://www.sbfilmfestival.org.

Once again, I LOL’d at the comment, I didn’t make it. You Jolie fans are so full of hate. With positive comments also come ‘negative’ comments. I don’t see one day where Jolie fanboys go without saying “JELUZ HATERS!”. If you don’t like them haters, ignore him!
I really doubt Jolie will be nominated without a big push and a campaign.
So far, the contenders, judging by reviews are Julie Christie, Marion Cotillard, Laura Linney, Keira Knightley, Ellen Page and Jolie, herself.
I think Marianne Pearl ought to have the last word on who plays her, rather than a pack of disgruntled racists. She was thrilled to have an actor of Angie’s caliber playing her and loved the movie. Enough said.

And besides of being the most beautiful and fascinating actress in hollywood, she is the most misunderstood. They are getting scared that these awards for Angelina and Brad might be the precursor to that be-all and end-all of awards, the Oscars, and they can’t stand it! So they bring out old articles, they say other actresses were better, they try to throw everything but the kitchen sink at these threads at JustJared because they just cannot stand it!!! Finaly the film will be released in my country this week and I’m planing to see it Friday. I can’t wait!
Wish we didn’t have to wait until next year for the festival but ohh well. This is great news.

This argument has been going on for quite a time now. If the person who actually owns the story has chosen Angie to play the role, who are all these people saying she can’t do so? They can choose who they want when it’s their story that’s being made but until then, they should just stay out of it. Their right is to see or not to see the movie, that’s all.
Maybe if they had produced the movie themselves, they could have insisted on who they want but Angie was the producer’s choice too, so tough noogies.
