Gyllenspoon @ Rome Film Festival 2007
Reese Witherspoon (in Nina Ricci) and “costar” Jake Gyllenhaal, aka Gyllenspoon, attend the premiere of their new movie Rendition during day 4 of the 2007 Rome Film Festival on Sunday in Rome, Italy.
Rendition scored a paltry 44% on Rotten Tomatoes‘ fresh meter. “The performances are surprisingly lackluster,” one reviewer has said. “Witherspoon practically sleepwalks through the whole thing, as does Gyllenhaal.”
As mentioned earlier today, Rendition ranked a horrible ninth place at the box office this weekend, pulling in $4.2 million.

The movie was bad mouthed and trashed by ciritics in the US and on top of thet the American public is tired of war against terror movies. The movie had no chance in hell!
The reviews in Canada and UK are better.
Stop giving couples mixed up names “Bennifer, Brangelina, Gyllenspoon etc” and thinking it’s cute. It’s not. It’s godawful. Seriously, it sounds retarded…

As for movies ‘tanking,’ well, of course. Who wants to go see a movie that makes you think (aka Rendition) when you can go and laugh like a ****** at **** jokes, or not-be-scared at vampire movies that star Josh Who-nett?

For every good movie like Rendition or Zodiac, there will be someone who will go see Wild Hogs or some other recycled crap that stinks to high heaven. God forbid movies should make us think or feel anything.
I loved Rendition. Thought Jake was hot. As for whoever criticized Reese’s hair, well– duh! She was supposed to be a Chicago housewife and mother– not to have the world’s best colorist.Do you people not know anything about costuming and makeup?
And for the person who wrote that Reese was “sheek”– honey, it’s spelled “chic.” Look it up.

This is a very perceptive post. I should also note that the USER RATING on Rotten Tomatoes is 85% !
I saw it and thought that it was very good. Unfortunately, most Americans are not mature enough to handle very serious subjects like this, or else resent being reminded of the unpleasant reality — as A. O. Scott of the New York Times perceptively observed in his sympathetic review of the movie.
Kudos to the cast and director for making this movie. Not all American film viewers are rank idiots.
Hal, i’d disagree, Zodiac was successful, got great reviews, didn’t do terribly well box office wise, but it did well on dvd!
And i’m sorry to disappoint you, Jake is not gay. I think he and Reese are together.
I live in Scotland and I read a few terrible reviews so the UK reviewers aren’t in love with it either. I’ll reserve judgement until I see it but it seems to me like a fangirl is owning this thread with all the positive posts that say the exact same things. I’m not too hopeful.

I didn’t say Jake was gay. I said lots of people say he is. How can I know for certain? Does anybody know for certain, other than Jakeypoop himself? If he were, I would think it would be public knowledge by now. I can possibly think he might be bi. Again no certainty. Truth to tell, Jakeypoop is always poised when interviewed and comes across as a nice, fun guy. But is that the REAL Jake? Who knows? Reviews are not what movies are all about; they are about money. If Zodiac hasn’t made much money, in Hollyweird it is not a “good” movie.
The important thing about Jakey is that he was born upper-class to an established Hollywood family and got a privileged, almost normal upbringing, as normal as being born to a rich family can be. Private school and two years at Columbia University. He probably did not go through the messy teen years lots of celebrities experience and that warps them into the freaks that they become. Hence his nice guy demeanor and his sensible behavior. He is not a great actor, but a good one. He did best, I think, in October Sky and The Good Girl. Also good, but not as good as Ledger, in Brokeback. I like his public persona, but still will call him Jakeypoop, for fun.
The dress is gorgeous on her, and he looks beautiful as usual.
If these two aren’t banging boots, they SHOULD be! But I think they are. Why would two costars NOT say they’re ‘jsut friends’ if they were?
I love all these “Reese denies it” stories. IN no way does she ever deny it– she just says she’s known Jake for years. Wow, such a strong denial! Plus, in the recent UK/Guardian article, Jake says he is straight and not gay. He said it on Jonathan Ross too.
These two are gorgeous. I adore them both, as people and as actors. I think their first public date should be next year’s Oscars. Take that, Ryan!
A woman I know is friends with a lady who has a daughter who is an actress. Her daughter knows both of them and yes, they are a couple and have been a couple for about a year. BTW. He loves kids and wants lots of them.

Jake and Reese should be respected to make a movie about Rendition,no other hollywood star are braver than them, they knew the movie won’t do well at box office from the begining,but they still to make the movie to make more people know something they should to know,so what’s the big deal the movie failed at box office?Does money is everything?????
Their career won’t be hurt by the movie, they’re true people who will be respceted in and out of hollywood,even the people who don’t want to see the movie would accept that they’re brave.
Reese and Jake are very talented in their profession. The movie didn’t do well at the box office but that makes them no less talented
Only 1 movie of hers was funny where she played a student. The rest has been so-so.
I totally agree with #64. As for #63 - I know he says he wants a family and all, but I can’t imagine Reese banging out alot more kids at this point in her life. Maybe 1 more, but not more than that. I think her ego is so big in Hollywood that all she cares about is making more money and becoming the richest actress in Hollywood. Its all about her ya know!
