OlderDrew Barrymore’s Grey Gardens
Drew Barrymore films scenes her new movie Grey Gardens around Centre Island in Toronto, Canada. She plays ‘Little’ Edith Bouvier Beale while Jessica Lange reportedly plays “Big Edie’.
Synopsis: Based on the life stories of the eccentric aunt and first cousin of Jackie Kennedy (both named Edith Bouvier Beale aka “Big and Little Edie”) raised as Park Avenue débutantes but who withdrew from New York society, taking shelter at their Long Island summer home, Grey Gardens. As their wealth and contact with the outside world dwindled, so did their grasp on reality. They were reintroduced to the world when international tabloids learned of a health department raid on their home, and Jackie swooped in to save her relatives.
The 32-year-old actress is still dating one-time Apple plugger Justin Long.

I’d also like to point out that Little Edie had to wear headscarves ALL THE TIME because she either had lost all her hair naturally or she had pulled it out in clumps herself because of her neurosis. Drew has a full head of flowing hair here…this should tell us alot about what direction they are exploring with the film, probably the time that Little Edie had to move back to Grey Gardens to take care of her mother when her mother didn’t want to be alone, which is the time that Little Edie gave up her life for her mother and subsequently became “eccentric” and “a staunch character”….if you haven’t seen the documentary RENT IT NOW!!!
Love Drew. Absolutely despise the fact that they are making a movie of my all-time favorite movie. (I was spitting nails when I heard about the Broadway Musical) If you want to see “Grey Gardens”, get your hands on the original. There is nothing better.

I don’t know why some people seem to have so much difficulty grasping the fact that this film is about the decades leading up to the raid and the Maysles documentary. Edie wasn’t born 56 and bald you know she had hair we’ve seen pictures of it. I doubt that Drew would have the role if she can’t do the accent she knows there are a lot of dedicated Edie fans out there I think she’ll do just fine.
Drew is a very limited actress. Love her personality, but no way.
We’ll just have to keep an open mind I’m sure that the subject is an inspiration to her and she’ll do good work. This is unlike anything she’s ever done before. People who are fond of Edie really should be encouraging and positive not picking away at Drew.

The resemblance is dead on. There are tons of other photos of Little Edie on this website. I find it very sad. She was certainly a stunning woman before she lost her bloody mind.
Why she’s in any movie is beyond me! She can’t act at all and her lisp and crooked mouth ruin anything she tries to remember and say. “Well, thit, I juss have to memorithe these worths.” Loser!
Well why remake a classic movie or documentary. It just comes off as a desperate attempt to cash in on the greatness of the original work.
Drew is a shallow actress, thats why she’s good in comedies. No brainers, she’s not that smart or deep.
Drew should take some acting classes or give up trying to play anything but comedies.
The audience has given her many chances and she has made millions playing herself. Please don’t blame the audience for Drew’s lack of range.
If you are going to go there and rip off a clasic, at least do a good job casting. Gwenyth Paltrow would have been more appropriate.
Drews production company financed the movie, that’s why she cast herself in the lead role. Bad idea!
How do you know? It might be t that very limited perception that has kept her from being offered more challenging and serious parts .Lots of actors known primarily for doing light romances and comedies have surprised audiences by doing excellent work in dramatic roles. I think people are being unkindly critical and with no good reason.
i like drew but i’m sorry.. when you look at drew, you see drew .. NOT little edie. this has got to be one of the worst casting decisions ever.
This scene is set in the late 1930’s. The movie depicts what really happened to the women based upon Edie’s own journals, letters and saved family documents. It isn’t based upon the musical or the documentary. Drew desperately wanted this role, and has worked for months perfecting the voice and mannerisms. Do you think she and the creative team are not aware of all of these fan concerns. Wait until yo see the attention to detail this film provides. Give these people a chance.
Her damned mouth moves sideways when she talks and gives her a weird screwed up looking appearance. She should not be an actress with diction like that.

You know what the reality is that casting YOURSELF in the lead role is not always the best choice.
Just because Drew has her own production company doesn’t mean she should give up artistic integrity.
Whatever its’ like casting Angelina to play a biracial afro cuban woman. Or Rose getting her roles on the Rodriguez casting couch.
Get some real actors and actresses in these roles.

Just because she made a lot of romantic comedy doesn’t mean she’s a limited actress. Everyone who said that is stupid. I bet you didn’t watch Amy Fisher, Doppelganger, Poison Ivy, MAD LOVE (especially), Riding in Cars with Boys… And it’s not a lot of celulite. Every NORMAL woman got it. Dude…this is a CLASSIC documentary. You should see it. This batty mother and her batty mother live in a crumbling old mansion with no electricity. They constantly talk about the “good old days” and the daughter even feeds the raccoons that live in their attic. It’s sad.
The fact that they’re making it into a movie is pathetic. Can’t we let classics remain classics?
