OlderHalle is Berry Sorry About Anti-Semitic Remark
Halle Berry apologized last night after she made an anti-Semitic joke while taping The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Friday afternoon.
An audience member told Page Six, Halle was showing photos of herself when she said, “Here’s where I look like my Jewish cousin!” and showed a shot of herself with a huge nose.
Halle said, “I so didn’t mean to offend anybody - and after the show I realized it could be seen as offensive, so I asked Jay to take it out, and he did. What happened was I was backstage before the show and I have three girls who are Jewish who work for me. We were going through pictures to see which ones looked silly, and one of my Jewish friends said [of the picture], ‘That could be your Jewish cousin!’ And I guess it was fresh in my mind, and it just came out of my mouth. But I didn’t mean to offend anybody.”

To play Mariane Pearl, Jolie had to use brown make up. There are a lot of mixed-race actresses who could have played the role. But they weren’t given the chance to audition.
Blackface, yellowface, and brownface are insulting to people of color. Malcolm X was mixed-race with a skin ton similar to Pearl’s. Do you think Brad Pitt should use some brown make-up and a wig to play Malcolm? Frederick Douglass was also mixed-race. Maybe Michael Douglas could play him. A little make-up, a wig, a prosthetic nose and voila!
Why doesn’t Jolie play a young Lena Horne or Billie Holiday?
The majority of African- Americans are mixed-race. Hollywood is still very racist. There are few decent roles for women of color. Look at the paucity of roles for Asian-American women let alone black, mestizo Latinos, or Native American women.
This is a non-issue to you because you’re white, I guess. Race hasn’t been a major factor in your life, I suppose.
Wow! I mean, it’s not like she said it to hurt anyone on purpose. It was clearly an honest mistake. Forgive and forget. Everybody generalizes at some point about other people - they just don’t have to worry about it being broadcast to the whole world. Stop acting so pious because none of you are perfect either.
If she made a comment about a group that hasn’t been persecuted for their religion, it wouldn’t be as bad. Jews have been killed just because of their religion. Hitler didn’t like the way the Jews looked either. Is that Ok too? Just because Halle apologized (blamed it on her assistant) doesn’t mean she didn’t mean it, and doesn’t make it ok.
If she made a joke about black people, gays, any other minority, the reaction would be so much worse…Why are jewish jokes just passed off as “well, they do have big noses”, and “stop whining about it”?
My jewish friends are more sensitive to intolerance & mockery of jews because they have many relatives that died in the Holocaust just because they were Jewish.
I can understand their fear and anger towards people that still don’t get it that it’s not ok or funny.
