I am not sure whether “being a woman” is enough (as a commonality) to understand the attacks. Often people have multiple identities, and gender is only one of them. Consider the debates on AJ’s schedule, “working” vs “stay at home”. These are the two choices a woman can make (under certain conditions of course), and women engage the debate not with their gender but by their ideals on motherhood.

I came to believe that AJ is a catalyst for people to reflect on who they could have become and who they chose to be. This applies to AJ more than to BP, for expectations about him is to be a provider, yet he is not always spared. Are you concerned only about your kind? AJ is there to remind that it is possible to be genuinely concerned about others. Do you believe blood is thicker than water? AJ reminds that family is also about labor, not simply genetics. So be it, she truly walks on her own path.

Hello JJ and Brad and Angie fans. I believe I am on page 2. San Bernardino is still close to the fires but the hardest hit is in San Diego county.Some schools in Orange County are closed until Monday. 20,000 people were evacuated to Qualcom stadium and there are five people confirmed dead. I think one of them is due to a heart attack, an older person who was scared of all the fires. There is a $250,000 reward for any tip on the arsonist in Orange County. Anyway, the air here is not healthy so I am sure all their kids are indoors.

I’ve never considered myself a serious fan of both– just liked them — until they got together and I found myself browsing justjared for BAMPZSnews even at work. Haha!

I always said Brad and X would split up, — I didn’t like their “aura” together. I don’t know why and I was actually relieved when they finally did divorce. Then I became so excited when he was started to be linked with Angie. I got movie passes in ‘05 and had no other movie but MAMS in mind. :)

The Film

The ending of A Mighty Heart is quite known to anyone that watched the news, or even used the internet in the past few years. The death by beheading demise of Wall Street Journal Journalist Daniel Pearl is not just a tragedy, but inhuman. I have seen several of these gruesome videos on various websites. They were not clips I went searching for at all, but I was in a situation where they were being shown, and I saw them. Horrific situations such as these induce feelings that would make you want to vomit. It leaves you empty, shaken, and changed forever. Luckily, the heartbreaking premise is not a funeral but a tribute, and Michael Winterbottom should be congratulated for how he handled the material. What shame that the studio did not release this theatrically in the Fall/Winter where it belongs, and could be admired more.

The story is based on Mariane Pearl’s memoir of the same name, which chronicled the days leading up to her husband’s death. At that time, Daniel (Dan Futterman) was living in Karachi, Pakistan with his wife Mariane, also a journalist. He was researching a number of topics like shoe bomber Richard Reid, Al-Qaeda, and the Inter-Services-Intelligence. He was on the verge of interviewing Sheikh Gilani, a controversial religious figure, but on his way to complete this meeting, Daniel was kidnapped by an unknown group of terrorists, and taken to a secret location. The law enforcement authorities and security agents of Pakistan immediately spring into action, and along with friends and family, do everything in their power to help Mariane (Angelina Jolie) apprehend the criminals, and find Daniel. As the evidence and leads build up, Mariane and the authorities maintain hope, but on February 1, 2002, the fate of Daniel Pearl would hit home and startle the nation.

The buzz surrounding Angelina Jolie’s performance was widely known, but nevertheless, half way through this film, there was no doubt in my mind. This is work that transcends anything she has done previously. Jolie controls the screen, and forces all eyes on her every move and word. Mariane Pearl wastes no time in making phone calls and pulling up emails in an attempt to find a quick solution to why Daniel went missing. She is a smart, compassionate, and courageous woman, whose unwavering attitude in a time of crisis causes every person involved to pull together and give the investigation 110%.

This marks the type of portrayal Jolie could attain annually is she wasn’t busy adopting children, or contributing her talents to pictures like Tomb Raider or Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Her presence demands attention because viewers forget that she is a supercelebrity, and believe she is Mariane Pearl. Similar efforts do not happen often. That is why it is so incendiary and daring. As the inevitable conclusion draws closer, we continue to root for Mariane to prolong her strength, and convey her bravery. Jolie captivates us with her emotion, and such an accomplishment deserves to be recognized come Oscar season.

A Mighty Heart unfolds in the moment, extremely reminiscent to United 93, but the only difference is a thin layer that makes the former more cinematical. Director Michael Winterbottom keeps this from Mariane’s perspective, and those aiding the investigation. He does not show Daniel being captured, or actually held as a hostage, but perhaps if he did, this could have been a more comprehensive masterpiece. Despite knowing the ending, that does not diminish the emotional impact or suspense of the story. We are pulling for Captain and his acquaintances to unearth evidence, and bring the guilty parties to justice.

There is one sequence in particular that I found especially shrewd and fascinating. Omar Saaed Sheikh is taken in for interrogation, and before the audience sees what occured away from the news cameras, real footage of him being transported with his face covered is displayed. This caused that advancement in the plot to be ten times as powerful as it would have been initially. The thriller angle also could have been heightened by revealing details of Daniel’s interactions with the The National Movement for the Restoration of Pakistani Sovereignty, the terrorist organization responsible. Winterbottom and screenwriter John Orloff refrain from exposing the terrorists, and those involved excessively, so as not to exaggerate their motives. As a matter of fact, Aly Khan is so calm, cool, and collected during questioning that if anything, his performances increases the intimidation of the group.

By implementing the docudrama approach, which is how Winterbottom’s previous effort The Road to Guantanamo was filmed, it allows the reactions to remain genuine and personal. One may argue that this distances the viewer from bonding with the characters. I strongly disagree. I didn’t feel that way with United 93, and the same can be said for A Mighty Heart. We connected with the characters as the events were broadcast. This just amplifies our attachment. Winterbottom manages this delicate and disastrous story with the utmost dignity, respect, and care. No underlying political motive is discernable. This is completely absent of a polemic agenda, which will in turn, make its longevity more prominent.

The intense media coverage, combined with the atrocious videos that leaked onto the internet, augmented the publics awareness of Daniel Pearl and other people that were held against their will. If we learned anything from these tragic deaths, it is that the world will never ever forget what these murderers are capable of. It is vital that films such as A Mighty Heart and United 93 be circulated regularly so that everyone remembers what can happen, in order to continually make progress in stopping it permanently. This is a near triumphant film, and I hope more people get a chance to see. Knowing Daniel’s fate is only the beginning. It is also an enlightening glance at information we cannot hear on television.

The 411: It should be worth noting that Jennifer Anniston was originally slated to play Mariane Pearl. After all, Brad Pitt is a Producer, and his interest in the memoir helped this along faster, but I cannot fathom this A Mighty Heart without Angelina Jolie. This is not a role just any mainstream actress walks into. She is unbelievable in it. A Mighty Heart is an exceptional piece of cinema, and one that will hopefully get the life it warrants on DVD. The technical specifications of the disc are up to par, and the extras are average, but they could have been a bit more extensive. All in all, this would be a wise purchase, and a definite rental if nothing else.
Final Score: 8.5 [ Very Good

Yes Brad has a compound of 3 houses where they live in Los Feliz that actually have different addresses and are accessible from two different streets all within a gated community. He has owned those houses since the 1990’s. They have mentioned how the kids have plenty of play area in the LA homes, they do not have to take thme to parks and such like when they are living in hotels for work. Brad has probably had more security work done since the E!crew trespassed on his property last year by cutting a lock on a back gate and strolling around looking in the houses. They can blend in better in the LA area since all are in cars, not walking like in NYC. All places have front and back entrances and many have underground garages. There is a video of Brad exiting the hotel after his appearance at the Hollywood awards and he walks down a long stairway at the back of the hotel to his waiting car with a BG and a driver. Just a few paps were there, most are up front where there is a red carpet, and Brad ignores them and gets in the car.

I am always puzzelled when comments are made that Angie does not like LA. Brad is the one who complains about the LA paps situation and that LA is not a good place to raise a family, not Angie. BenA, MattD, and JohnnyD say the same thing as Brad but comments are made as if Angie said something, which she has not. Angie actions indicate that she is willing to live whereever Brad is or wants to be.

Angelina Jolie and costar Jeffrey Donovan film scenes for their upcoming movie The Changeling at the historic Santa Fe Train Depot in San Bernadino, Calif.

“The scene does involve an old railroad station, but not the one in San Bernardino. It’s to replicate another Southern California station,” said Mike Fortunato, property manager for the depot.

This was the last day of shooting at the depot.

Yes Brad has a compound of 3 houses where they live in Los Feliz that actually have different addresses and are accessible from two different streets all within a gated community. He has owned those houses since the 1990’s. They have mentioned how the kids have plenty of play area in the LA homes, they do not have to take thme to parks and such like when they are living in hotels for work. Brad has probably had more security work done since the E!crew trespassed on his property last year by cutting a lock on a back gate and strolling around looking in the houses. They can blend in better in the LA area since all are in cars, not walking like in NYC. All places have front and back entrances and many have underground garages. There is a video of Brad exiting the hotel after his appearance at the Hollywood awards and he walks down a long stairway at the back of the hotel to his waiting car with a BG and a driver. Just a few paps were there, most are up front where there is a red carpet, and Brad ignores them and gets in the car.

I am always puzzelled when comments are made that Angie does not like LA. Brad is the one who complains about the LA paps situation and that LA is not a good place to raise a family, not Angie. BenA, MattD, and JohnnyD say the same thing as Brad but comments are made as if Angie said something, which she has not. Angie actions indicate that she is willing to live whereever Brad is or wants to be.

Millions of people were easily brainwashed into participating in it which is a reflection of our society. It’s understandable that she would want to put as much distance as possible between BBT and herself after the way that marriage ended. So living in England most of the time made sense to her then.

But since 2005 she has shown that she is willing to live in LA if that is where Brad is. She came directly to LA and Brad in July 2005 as soon as Zee was released from the hospital in NYC and has remained by his side every since then.

I came across a post yesterday on a movie website where posters were discussing a list compiled by moviefone as to Brad’s best and worst movies. Some posters decided to ignore the topic and engage in attacks against Brad and Angelina. It didn’t surprise me. Towards the end I came across an extremely long post. Golly, I have never seen so much written on a blog before. Actually ever. I don’t know who wrote it and I don’t know what to make of it. I regret even responding to the thing.

But it did remind me of TGS premiere. For me, it was a shock to see the two of them make their RC debut there. But then again, this was a month before Marcheline died and some of the pics showed Angelina’s sadness and preoccupation. Of course, the tabs enlisted their body language experts, who promptly deduced that Brad was more into Angelina while Angelina seemed ‘disinterested’. The truth eventually came out, and yet, no recants; just more body language experts. I’m still shaking my head at ‘baby’ body language experts.

In retrospect, I think that Brad was there because Angelina needed his support, not necessarily the star power his presence would provide.

Don’t agree with you at all. Brad looks more loving toward AJ than he ever looked toward anyone else in his life. He never ever hugged and squeezed anyone on the red carperts like he does AJ. When there are just the two of them they are always holding hands or hugging each other or walking very close together or devouring each other with their eyes.

There was always an air of aloofness/shyness/stiffness maintained by Brad on red carpets with others, not over the top PDA for the paps, he kept his private life as private as possible. One exception was the early days with GP, but even then he was not all over her as he is all over AJ. He has looked completely lost in love with AJ at times, especially in Toronto where he hugged and practically made out with AJ in full view of the public. Brad does not hold back these days with AJ.

A difference also now is that they have four kids and in the pixs with the kids they have hands around the kids not each other. That what parents do.

Brad seems very comfortable with himself and PDA’s these days. What a difference from his other relationships in which he came across as a little shy and uncomfortable about PDA’s in public. There is little if any space between Brad and AJ when they are together as they both hold on to each other much of the time.

Brad’s behavior with a certain person on an island in the very beginning of January 2005 was so unusual that paps even noted that he had never acted that way before, that the two separated and moved away from each other as soon as the paps looked away for a moment, and that something was not right between two people. Of course those observations were lost in the wake of the official announcement of the separation. Brad was trying to let someone down easy and it bit him in the behind because a scorpion will always sting you no matter how gently you treat it.

Well if you ask me the best pic I ever saw of Brad showing true feelings of love is a wedding photo of him looking adoringly at his new bride Jen. Never saw him ever look at Ang that way. Sorry but it’s true.
