What Do You Want For Your Birthday?

“Welcome to your 20s, Mr. Efron.”

He slowly opened his eyes to see Vanessa coming into his bedroom with a breakfast tray in hand. Glancing over to the clock and seeing the ungodly hour of 6:30 AM, he groaned and tried to snuggle back under the covers. The jet lag was still hitting him hard as he tried to adjust back to Los Angeles time after more than 2 weeks across the Pacific.

“Uh uh, birthday boy, time to get up.” Vanessa said as she put the tray down on the nightstand and began pulling the covers off her sleepy boyfriend. But instead of getting up, Zac reached out and pulled her onto the bed, nuzzling her neck and kissing her as he rolled on top of her.

“Zac…stop…we can’t. You’re going to be late and so am I.” Vanessa half-heartedly complained even as she responded, returning his kisses with as much passion as he was giving to her.

“How’d you get here this early?”

“Dad dropped me off on his way to work. Now come on, Jim is stopping by here to drive me to the recording studio over in Westwood. You need to get your butt out of bed and into the shower. You have a 9 o’clock reading in Century City.”

“You’re no fun.” Zac grumbled as he munched on his toast and drank half of his coffee before heading toward the bathroom.

“Oh, so you don’t like breakfast in bed for your birthday, Efron?” Vanessa said in mock anger. “See if I’ll go through the trouble again next year!”

“I like breakfast in bed, but I like YOU in bed better.” Zac said mischievously before quickly closing the bathroom door to avoid the pillow that Vanessa had thrown his way.

“You want to go where for dinner?!” she asked again, not quite sure that she heard him correctly the first time.

“Orso.” Zac replied. “We had a great time there in London and their food is fantastic.”

Vanessa silently watched him for a minute before replying. “Orso? As in the paparazzi paradise?”

“Yeah, why not?” Zac replied with a certain twinkle in his eye.

“Hey, I get to choose the place and you get to pay for dinner as part of my birthday present, that’s what you said this morning.”

“I know, but are you sure? You know the feeding frenzy that’s going to happen when we show up there. Hell, there will be stories in the National Enquirer tomorrow on how we broke up after the salad course but made up just before dessert.”

Zac couldn’t help but laugh, “I’m sure. Besides, I’ve gotten us a limo so we can zip in and out real fast. It’ll be here in 45 minutes. We have reservations for 8 o’clock.”

“First Orso, now a limo?!? Okay, who are you and what have you done with the real Zachary David Alexander Efron?” Vanessa asked, only half kiddingly.

Vanessa’s plan to attack Zac as soon as they were back inside his condo was all but forgotten when she saw the way his living room had been transformed while they were at dinner. It was a recreation of the little restaurant they had been to in Hawaii the night they exchanged their commitment rings. If she thought that night was magical, then what she had just experienced was downright miraculous.

He had held her hand for the world to see the entire night! He had kissed her inside the restaurant, not caring whether or not the people around them saw! He had called her baby! And now this. What the hell was he up to?!

“What’s the matter baby?” He asked as he led her to the couch, silently bemused at the look on her face. “Don’t you remember?”

“I remember Zac. This is the restaurant on Maui where you gave me our ring.” Vanessa whispered as the first inkling of what “all this is about” began to form in her head.

“You asked me this morning what I wanted for my birthday, and I had to make sure that I had the right place to give you my answer. I want you, Vanessa Anne Hudgens. I want you for my birthday and for all the days of my life.” Zac said as he knelt beside her and pulled out the Cartier box with the diamond engagement ring inside.

I wonder if Zac and Vanessa now realize how much support they have in their relationship from people who are 30+. Plus, I am hoping the press—and I think they are—are seeing that these two are not just a draw with the tweeners. Unfortunately for them that is probably why the paparazzi is becoming a neverending presence in their lives.

And frankly, if anyone is coming out of the closet it is the people like me who have long since past the teenage years but have no qualms in letting the world know they love Zac and Vanessa. Maybe I am just going through my second childhood.

Well, didn’t get to finish my last post. I was just thinking that Zac looks a little less burdened. Probably he is so happy that he and Vanessa can now be open about their relationship and not fear so much backlash just because they are so young. He may feel they are now much more accepted as an adult couple. It has to be awful to feel like you will be laughed at just because you are young and you yourself know just how serious you are about something. During the summer when he was promoting HSM2 he was on The View and some co-host made a comment about him not wanting to talk about a girlfriend because it may not last since he was so young and he had this quick flinch on his face which expressed his feeling about such talk. He may be polite but if you watch his face he cannot hide his feelings very well. That’s just his nature and why it was so obvious his feelings about Vanessa when he was anywhere near her.

I read an artcle awhile back regarding why people and the media love the Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes story. And the reason was this: All great stories are stories that are character-driven — fueled by characters that provoke a visceral reaction because of who they are, how they act, whether they are liked or disliked, whether they are larger than life, whether they stimulate a “love ‘em or hate ‘em” feeling.

And all great stories have back stories with sometimes unbelievable twists and turns, and ups and downs, and characters acting out of character — leading to situations that make you say “Are you kidding me?”.

Perhaps the same would apply to our beloved Zac & Vanessa. Their romance is that of a great story. Just think of all the stories that have come out about these two since word broke out they they were an item. With them being so private about their relationship and always letting reporters or the public know that they “Never talk about their private life”, We keep guessing. We will never know the whole truth. That’s why our interest in them only grows. We love to see what happens next and we can’t wait for the ending!

HSM was something I watched when nothing else was on, and I loved the chemistry instantly. Isn’t any show or movie better when the chemistry is believable?? Would Grease have been as good without the chemistry between Newton-John and Travolta? And they weren’t even a real life couple.

Hey spirit, do you know how I got on the HSM bandwagon? Last year I went on a cruise where they played the first one over and over again.

At first I refrained from watching it because my mother and sister thought it looked stupid. But then they got off the boat and i didn’t, so I took the chance and watched it. And guess what, I loved it.

So it goes to follow that when I saw promotions for the second one, I had to watch it.

I’m new at this whole Zanessa chatting thing…but i’m a huge fan. Could you make some room for one more Zanessa Fan?

What drew me to HSM #1 and #2? Pull up a chair gang it’s a story of action, thrills, romance and…okay, it’s not that all that exciting. I happened to be at the store one day with some extra cash to spend and was looking at was available on DVD. I saw “High School Musical”, I had heard about it but I hadn’t seen it because I didn’t have cable when it premiered on the Disney Channel. I had heard that it had gone from little cable TV movie to a bonafide pop cultural phenomanon and I was kind of curious to see what all the hoopla was about and I was in the mood for something light so I bought it. I was immediately charmed by the chemistry of Zac and Vanessa and by the exurbrant innocence and lack of cynicism of the whole thing.

So when HSM2 premiered I my microwave popcorn popped and ready to go. At 34 I know I’m a bit out the demographic but I guess I’m just a big kid at heart.

Malia, Look at the silver ring attached to the strap of his backpack, #4 or the up close pic. JJ has on the open page. Its on the inside of the strap. Look at the slits on the strap. Do you see it. Narf do you see the ring? I hope you don’t get mad that I want to see picture. I do agree that they do need to be left alone after seeing the video of his birthday and the Fredricks show. The pps are crazy for them. I think all these comments are playing with my head, I just want to make sure they are together.

When it was premier night for HSM2, my niece who lives with me is 14 and i had about 5 of her friends doing a sleepover, we made zanessa popcorn necklaces, one girl was taking the black olives off the pizza and spelling out zefron and then their is me getting into character with these teens singing and dancing. We stayed up all night watching and singing and dancing nothing but HSM2. I guess i would be another big kid at heart. It was alot of fun but i was worn out the next day.They have already asked me what are we doing for HSM3 when it comes out.

Problem is now i can’t get these teen girls out of my house and as a matter of fact i have 4 in my living room for a sleepover and they have already had the karaoke out doing “Were Breaking Free”.

I went to my room to get some sanity back and chat with all of you.

Actually spirit, Narf is just my name backwards. How that cmae about is a cute story though.

When I was a nanny 12 years ago, the little boy I was in charge of had a few friends over, some of them a couple of years older.

Well, after hearing my name at different levels of pitch every five minutes for 4 hours straight, I finally turned around and said “Fran’s not here”.

At that point six pairs of eyes silently stared at me until one voice popped up and said “then who are you”? After thinking for a few seconds I replied with “my name is Narf”.

When they finished laughing a few minutes later, they asked me to explain where narf came from and then thinking that was cool proceeded to have me tell them their names backwards.

I still see those kids, and they still call me Narf.

Oh look, “e” (260) learned a few more words. I feel so proud.

Is it just me or does it seem like ZAC has been under the eye of the photog way to much here lately i mean i like pictures like everyone else but when it seems like you can get 2 or 3 sightings in the same day it kinda makes you feel sorry for him. I means he has no time to himself without the photogs taking his picture

My theory on the whole thing robin is that he is in some way distracting the paps from what vanessa is doing. If you notice, when we see pictures of him, there are almost never pictures of what she is doing at the same time.

I was just about ask if you were the one who came up the theory about Zac distracting the paps Narf. I’m thinking that very well might be the case. Considering how until very recently he clearly didn’t like being photographed its kind of funny just how available he’s been making himself lately. And this might just be my imagination but there seems to be a bit of the cat who ate the canary in the grins he gives photographers. Hmmm.

Sorry if I am way behind here. What did you people do to me? I was getting ready for work and my last post I think I said something about if anyone was coming out of the closet it was us who were 30+ and I had someone say that made her day because she was 18 and then I turned off the computer so I could go t work. This is the first chance I’ve had here at work to check back and now I have SEVERAL PAGES of posts to read again to be up to date! I didn’t know I would kick off a confession party about ages! LOL It’s like the scene in HSM1, Stick to the Status Quo, everybody is confessing.

Narf, I loved your #113 post, it made me laugh so hard. And I too hope people will be so diligent about the who they elect next year.

I have many scenes I like in HSM. The first time I saw it I was with a patient who is 18. I told them then there was something about that couple that was on the screen—it was Zac and Vanessa. It was one of those deep gut instincts. In HSM2 I loved the You Are the Music in Me because through that whole thing they were completelly out with every feeling they had and by the end of the song where Zac is breathing heavy, well…there was no denying that emotion.

Also, have all of you fans gotten the special CD where it has the bonus DVD in it that shows the song and dance rehearsals, recordings, and interviews? It was worth the CD alone and I got it for only $2 extra than what my 18 year old patient got the CD alone for!

3. The stalkerazzis are somewhat sanctioned because of who they are.
4. VNZ may never come out of the house again.
5. The tender moments between them is left out by Just Jared and the stalkerazzis. Those are the little things VNZ’s fans crave to hear about.
6. We want to give VNZ their space.
7. VNZ might not act natural in public because they think they’re being watched. (which they already are, sadly)

Looking at these pictures I do believe that IS his ring on that leather strap. How did it get there? I think it would be easy enough to slit that letter and slip the ring on there and then if the leather is thick and tough enough it would go back together where the ring wouldn’t come off. However, Zac may have something that we can’t see keeping the ring safe from pulling off. He has the strap close to his body so it really should slide off I don’t think. I thinkt he little scamp is playing us and having a good time doing it! LOL

That’s so true, Evelyn. There have been a bunch of movies fllming here lately, and all you see is pics of them on set, or out at an event. That seems reasonable to me, because they’re either working, or out in public. But in LA, they’re followed coming out of their houses, gyms, business offices, smoothie joints, physical therapists, grocery stores, best buys, etc. It’s creepy…..
