Jolie attends journalism awards

Angelina Jolie, Meg Ryan and California’s First Lady Maria Shriver have lent their support to the IWMF Courage in Journalism Awards in LA.

Jolie, who recently played Mariane Pearl in A Mighty Heart, said she developed a new appreciation for female journalists.

“I think the amazing thing about them is that they have been forced to have extraordinary bravery,” Jolie noted.

“It’s not that they are people looking to be brave. They just were in a situation where somebody had to stand up and I’m sure that they are scared often and still they stand up, so that’s what makes them extraordinary.”

Lydia Cachao, 43, was one of the nine women recognised for their integrity in the face of life threatening obstacles.

She said: “I guess being a female journalist in Mexico is not very easy, but when you believe in your ethical principles in being a journalist and you know your equal rights, you defend yourself and you tell others to defend themselves.”

I was a Angie fan before the BBT days - not for her looks but she was a talented actress who seemed to have a vibrancy that was unique. When she married BBT I thought how odd - he just did not seem like the right fit. I expected her to marry someone young, vibrant and exceptional like her.
(Just like I did not get why Brad married JA. It did not seem like the right fit. Brad had a certain edge to him that made his hookup with both GP and JA odd to me. Neither woman seemed to have the vibrancy that Brad had.)

But back to Angie, I did not know about the things she did in her teen and early 20’s private life. I like her as an actress - she was fearless and captivating. I loved her appearance at the Oscars - she was young and bold with a slight flair telling everyone to have a little fun - her dress that night was great - I got what she was doing and I liked her for it. She did not french kiss her brother. Angie has a sensualness to her. So whenever she touches someone, the public reacts. Perverts and haters jump to negative conclusions, because of this vibe Angie gives off.

I only read about these things in her private life after she got together with Brad. It’s as if the media wanted to present her in the most negative light. At the beginning of the Brantgelina phenomenon, the media would not even acknowlege her as an Academy award winner. (Yet that honor is always mentioned for other Oscar winners. It’s comparable to addressing those who are knighted by the Quenn of England as “Sir….). But the media never gave her that respect. They totally disrepected her. The media wanted to present her in the most negative way, without letting the world know all the good things she has done and continue to do in her professional and private life. So they presented a one dimensional person. That is why some like the haters here cannot accept the complete Angie. But I think the general public now realizes Angie is a loving mother (has been for 6 years), a humanitarian (has been for 7 years), a loving life partner to Brad, an acclaimed actress, and a player on the global stage in her roles in UNHCR and the CFR.

I think she had one early in her career but she’s never really needed one. Her manager has sent out statments when needed and that’s been good enough. Sometimes it’s redundant to have a publicist and a manager. An agent is something entirely different as they are the ones who broker the deal for film roles. Sometimes even an agent will provide statments to the press when necessary if there is no publicist. When I mean press I mean INDUSTRY press. The main press then gets their info from the industry press. That’s more legitimate.

Most of you on here are on another plane of universe. You are justified in you frustrations about what others say about Angelina and what the tabloids say and demand they say something but you gotta realize that tabloids and blogs do not really exist in the minds of actors. It’s this other thing that’s going on and having your publicists jump at every stupid rumor is a very demeaning experience. These publicists are professionals and they deal with professional people. Let me put it this way, it’s sort of like asking the Presidential press secretary to respond to rumors of the White House laundry staff being fed up because the President of the United States is always leaving track marks in his underwear. Honestly, I have no idea why ___ was as revered as she was. People said she has comic timing :roll:, but when she got with Brad, all of a sudden, she was this generation’s Carole Lombard, which I cannot see, even if I get Lasik and squint really, really hard.

But I wholeheartedly disagree with your assessment that Brad hooks up with actresses at the height of their fame. For example… Robin Givens. She was on a TV show and at the time of their hookup, she was villified for what she ‘allegedly’ did to Mike Tyson, which was apparently, making him look more ignorant and low-rent than people wanted to admit. Juliette Lewis had critical acclaim, but not popular by any stretch. And Gwyneth’s resume consisted of TV mini-series and Seven; she blew up, for just a minute, after she and Brad broke up. And for the record, she talks about him more than he ever did of her, after the fact.

As for ___, when she got with Brad, her film prospects in terms of quality and markee value increased exponentially. She didn’t do it on her own; HW gave it to her because they hoped that she and Brad would be HW’s beard or flagship couple, presenting the front that HW isn’t as freaky or bent as middle America believed it to be.

I disagree with you, Brad has always been “involved” the difference is he has always shunned the spotlight, even today. He has never been one to give thousands of interviews just to talk about himself. Have you ever noticed even when Brad speaks about even his building project in New Orleans, he makes sure others are spotlighted and others get to speak? As for Brad, apparently he’s thrilled to be back in LA, is loving the stability of their home life, and is especially impressed with studio daycare for Pax and Miss Zahara.

I want to point out that we do NOT worship Angie. We root for her. Yes, she’s beautiful. But that’s NOT the only reason we love her.

Well, bring me another person (female) who possesses all the qualities which Angie has. Name one who has all these qualities, the beauty, the real compassion for the “forgotten people”, the generosity, the love of children, the acting talent, the success, the history of having some problems while growing up and has turned herself around and changed for the better, the mindset to be “unhollywood” (go against the norm of not hiring a publicist), the courage of NOT afraid to admit her tennage behavior.

I think you are missing the point. The people you have mention above are, I agree, are powerful women and a good humanitarians. But Angelina is not only just a mere humanitarian but she had travelled to war torn countries and held those unfortunate people in her arms. Maybe these people you have mentioned had send their monetary support to these countries like Iraq but not physically had witness the suffering of those people . And on top of that she’s a good Mom too.

I don’t think this person really cares one way or the other. It’s about her need to bash Angie, no matter what Angie does she/he/it would have a problem with it. If Angie had answered the questions, she/he/it would have called Angie an attention whatever and whined about how Angie had to steal the spotlight for the ladies that was there to be recognized.

The “four lovers” quote is from 2002 - somewhere around there. That UK tabloid just did a cut and paste and made up an interview. Jolie never gave an interview saying that to any tabloid paper.

Anyone but a fool understands that.

Jolie’s relationship with two friends who became lovers sounds like mature relationships. You don’t need to be in a committed relationship to enjoy sex. You people sound like you’re a bunch of busybody old prudes or the Taliban.
