Ashley Judd dons a purple-licious sari at the YouthAIDS Benefit Gala on Friday at the Ritz Carlton in Mclean, Virginia.
The 39-year-old actress is a “global ambassador” for YouthAIDS, a worldwide HIV/AIDS education and prevention effort. Ashley recently told press, “There is an extraordinary, compelling, urgent problem.”
On Nov. 30, the National Geographic Channel and nonprofit organization Cable Positive will premiere a new film India’s Hidden Plague, which features Judd. The special will be available nationally via video on demand.

She’s so beautiful. Unlike some of the hollywood activists, Ashley actually does more activism than movies. She spends most of her time traveling as the Youth Aids ambassador and runs education programs in Africa and other countries where sex workers suffer strongly from the AIDS epidemic. I think she has more right to talk about her politics than Michael Moore, for instance.
She is beautiful in that saree. and she holds herself with dignity even though the dress is new to her.

Her opinion DOES matter, and while she hopes that she can educate people to see why she has that opinion and others will then also see the issues in a clearer light and help out, she does not think everyone should agree with her.
You do realize that celebs also vote, and read, and are citizens, don’t you? And becasue their jobs take them to other lands, and they are exposed to cultures around the world, they have a more informed opinion than many in the general public who listen only to propaganda and get their politics from a bumper sticker and pundits expressing THEIR opinions on a news show.
Ashley Judd and others have as much right as anyone to express their opinions, and if they are given a forum, like a pundit is given the privilege of spouting off on a so-called “news” program that is really just people saying what THEY think, then they should take it.
By the way, get informed yourself, and make YOUR opinion matter as much as someone who makes it her business to help you get informed.
I wish they pleated the saree neatly instead of bunching it around the shoulders like that. Whoever helped her with the saree didn’t do a very good job.
To RIC: If women in India can wear skirts or outfits which are deemed to be “Westernized”, then I see nothing wrong in Ms Judd wearing a sari. In fact I think it’s a beautiful and lovely gesture that someone in Hollywood is recognizing different cultures.

DO YOU REALLY THINK SO…..SHE IS ONLY WEARING THE SARI AS SHE IS TAKING PART IN SOME PROJECT IN INDIA.IF SHE WAS NOT INVOLVED WITH INDIA WOULD SHE WEAR “THE SARI” AND EMBRACE THE CULTURE OR ANY OTHER CULTURE?! IT IS POLITICS AND ENTERTAINMENT…SHE ALSO PROBABLY WOULD LIKE A MORE WORLDWIDE APPEAL TO DO MORE OF HER “CHARITY”, ONE COULD SAY………

THIS IS IT,I AGREE…THERE ARE LOADS OF ORPHANS IN THE USA AND UK….WHY DO THESE CELEBS NEED TO GO TO THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES TO ADOPT..WHY TRAVEL SO FAR I AM SURE THOSE ORPHANS IN USA AND UK ALSO GO THROUGH SIMILAR ISSUES AS ORPHANS FROM THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES.
