Madonna’s Malawai Plea

Madonna’s Malawai Plea

Madonna dines at Scott’s Restaurant in London on Wednesday with designer Stella McCartney and hubby Alasdhair Willis. She recently posted this message on the RaisingMalawai.org:

“From the moment I began my work on behalf of Malawi’s ONE MILLION orphans, people have asked, “Why did you choose Malawi?” I always answer, “I didn’t. Malawi chose me.” Malawi is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Unfortunately, it is also one of the poorest - suffering from famine, drought, extreme poverty, and deadly diseases like HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis. All of which could be treated with proper health care and education, if it were available.

Through the Raising Malawi: Orphan Care Initiative, Michel Berg and I have committed to doing all that we can to help this small country in desperate need.

We have met with world experts in healthcare, economics, education, and international development - leaders like Dr. Jeffrey Sachs and Dr. Paul Farmer, who have given a voice to the most underprivileged sectors of society. Together we are working to raise the quality of life for a generation of orphaned and vulnerable children.

Now I’m asking you to join us.

With one of the highest HIV/AIDS rates in the world and one of the lowest rankings in the Human Poverty Index, Malawi and her children are at the heart of the humanitarian crisis in sub-Saharan Africa. The challenges facing these children are unimaginable. Everyday in Malawi hundreds of children die from preventable illness, thousands are affected by abuse and neglect, and millions face a lonely struggle for survival without parents, or adult supervision. At Raising Malawi, we believe in turning these challenges into stepping stones.

Malawi is country with incredible promise. Malawians possess resiliency and great spirit. If we give them a chance to achieve lasting sustainability through smart solutions and the proper support, we will in fact raise Malawi. No matter who you are or where you are, you can join this cause and get involved. Volunteers of all ages and from every corner of the world are needed.

Donations, no matter how large or small, can make a big difference: from buying a bed net to helping build a school or a clinic. Every little bit helps.

I urge you to please support Raising Malawi and remember: by committing a little bit of your time, talent, or treasures to these extraordinary children, you will help to save a life.”

Madonna is a genius - with a huge brain & heart. And so much talent and creativity running through her veins.
Beautiful message for Raising Malawi!
And sweet to see her out with an old friend ; )

madonna should use her starpower to try and help the children in USA who are starving, out in the cold, no place to sleep. Or the thousands of domestic animals who certain S.O.B just dump on the streets. start there..

# 6

the_original_nika-

Why don’t you just help the children in USA?

# 7

Wow she looks scary.

And I don’t think it’s fair to criticize her for helping another country out. The US is not the most important country in the world with the most important citizens of the world, contrary to popular belief.

Children whether americans, africans, asian or whatever deserve better. Do your part in helping and stop bashing someone who’s doing a small part in making the world a better place.
What have you done lately for a disadvantaged person????

# 9

what does it matter what kind of children she helps? I dont see you out there donating that much time or $$ to anyone..

on a side note I havent seen her looking that hot in a long time.. Dinner with Tom Ford and Stella M must be interesting.. but i guess you could say that about Madonna too

the_original_nika @ 11/08/2007 at 1:04 am

Oh #6 if I were there I would =\.
#8 are you crazy? I’m not bashing wtf wake up, I was just saying my opinion. And I´ve done my part..
god you people are unbelievable.

How can you compare the poor in the US with the poor in Africa. The US is the richest country in the world while Malawi is one of the poorest. And for those who will say that Madonna is just doing this for publicity, this open letter was posted in her Raiwing Malawi website and was not distributed to the press. She has done a lot already for this country and only wants to invite those who have extra to spare to help out in any way they can. There is nothing to criticize here. For those who want to help, help. No one is forcing anyone so please no vicious comments.

She is one fugly woman. OMG she is ugly beyond her years. WTF? And I am ok with her helping Africa, but I hate her fake british accent and how her kids are too precious to watch TV, but she goes on TV and maked out with Britney a few years ago, and was old enough to be her mother, and her little kids could not watch it, but she does that for other kids. Very hypocritical.

She’s beautiful and she really cares of Malawi. More people should do things like her.
And yes she’s got a british accent but she lives in London and Guy is english so it’s normal…

I really can’t stand it when a celebirty does something good for another country and people complain about them not doing something for an American charity instead. That being said, America is the richest country in the world but its human development index isn’t that high (for such a rich nation) and income equality is high - this is why there are kids on the streets - but I think if a celebrity was ever to talk about this they would be accused of ‘America bashing’.

Think about it, if a celeb tries to bring attention to a problem in the US, people say ‘why aren’t you concerned with nations facing problems a lot worse?’ If they bring attention to issues overseas people say ‘why aren’t doing anything about the problems in your own nation?’

It seems to be a lose-lose. We should just encourage those who do good, rather than try and find fault with a charitable act.

I thought it was spelt Malawi or is it Malawai? I am confused…

She looks great as usual!

the_original_nika @ 11/08/2007 at 7:07 am

Kristy, thats what I´ve trying to say =\.

Is Stella pregnant again?

She looks awesome, and how the hell can ANYONE deny that what she is doing is wrong, or not helpful. Please people…get a grip.

fat roberta @ 11/08/2007 at 8:21 am

come on she’s not ugly, maybe a little scary. even that is due to her enability to put her mascara correctly! her skin is beautiful and flawless (except the wrinkles, but that’s normal) though quite greasy, gross!

fat roberta @ 11/08/2007 at 8:22 am

stella always looks pregnant!

I’m a big fan but not really of that hair…it’s weird that M wears a kid’s hairstyle.

Mr History @ 11/08/2007 at 10:28 am

I like Madonna telling me what to do with my money. If I gave my whole salary every year to Malawians it would not be equal to her giving up 0.000000000001 percent of her wealth.

Some would say, why then does Madonna not just give up her entire estate to Malawi today, this very hour, move to a small, easy to maintain trailer herself, and stop asking people with 0 compared to her to give up their money.

To those people I say “Stop it. She is a celebrity and therfore has the right to tell me what to do with my small salary”. She is a rich white woman and is bountiful in the same way that nineteenth century missionaries were bountiful taking their learning and beliefs to Africa. Let her continue in all her good works.
