Marsters, 45, is onboard as the film’s villain, demon king Piccolo.

DO YOU THINK Twentieth Century Fox made good casting choices — YAY or NAY?

I agree with # 49….if you want all asian actors, than move to an asian country. It doesnt matter who they pick as goku and piccolo. You’re not going to find the exact person who pertrays the anime vision. Give it a chacne and quit hating. Sence 89 they have been doing DB,DBZ, and DBGT and talks about a movie sence 02. It about time they actrully got thier sh*t together and decided on it. I think its going to be an amazing movie and yeah you cant make the movie perfectly to the anime version. Atleast they trying and have some b*lls to do so. Just shut up with all the b*tching and complaining. It’s old.
Bravo Racist Hollywood casting once again. Go watch the original Dragon Ball that this movie is based on, not Dragon Ball Z. And tell me Sun Goku is not based on a Chinese character. of course they have an Asian girl as Chi Chi, damn racist hollywood. And how is Chow Yun Fat as the perverted Master Roshi? Chow Yun Fat is 6′2″ and you have to be kidding if you don’t feel some pure old schoolr racism turning one of the best animated stories into a Karate Kid like movie where the young white dude has an Asian girl and go on a quest to learn from an old Asian master and then surpassing him. No Goku is not just Asian, he’s Chinese! Saiyan is made up after.
Some of you might know Goku is a Saiyan, but lets face it, the people watching the movie will not be. They will just see a white guy, some karate kid type of ****. And Goku is Chinese creation with a Japanese influence, damn it! Wake up white people, see the obvious racism here, next time they should cast Will Smith as Clark Kent
I have to agree with most of these comments…although it is 20th century fox making this film and it has a 100 million dollar budget.im quite skeptical about the whole thing…the cast is questionable already and im sorry for Justin Chadwin but he cant really make a character like goku believeable unless he does gain some pounds and gets about as riiped as the cast of 300..we should all also remember the fact that dragon ball is only one of three series..(DB, DBZ, and DBGT) and goku wasnt quite as big (muscular wise) and the height..im pretty sure ..6ft or 6″2 would have been reasonable for goku…..as for piccolo he should have been atleast 6′4 or 6′5 …he is taller than goku in the series. As far as the characters being played by Asians? come on 20th century fox would have spent a good while finding good and tall enough protagonists for the film. Lets just hope that the industry overcomes all the obstacles that are quite apperent and they give us a decent or very good film….i have hope for the movie
I really don’t get all this frenzy of making Dragonball into a live action. Why are there so many people who are crazy with defending Hollywood? Like, is Dragonball a series that has a need of any more live action movies to f*** it up?
Look around, everyone. People in the Americas who know what is going on are hating this live action already. People in Europe aren’t any excited about it. People in Asia especially in Japan are planning boycotts against it.
this movie while be good (even with all the changes). my only concern is the hair every thing depends on the hair every charator in db/z/gt had their own unique hair expeculy goku so if the hair is right then i think it will be a good movie
This is what i have been waitin 4. this cartoon is the best!!! So 4get what every1 else had to say if isn’t wasnt positve about the movie.
First, I don’t think an American version of Dragonball would be bad. As a matter of fact, it’ll probably be better because with rare exception, the Japanese are a bunch of smelly untalented retards. Obviously Akira Toriyama is one of those few exception. But if they’re going to “americanize” it, at least do it right. James Marsters is not a bad choice, nor is Chow-Yun Fat (assuming they keep the tradition of having Roshi be a geezer pervert). But Emmy Rossum as Bulma? Joon Park as Yamcha? And of the course, the worst casting decision of all time, Justin Chatwin as Goku? WTF, man? What kind of dumbass, no-talent, ****** casts a white guy with no record or personality, who honestly looks nothing like Goku, to play Goku. I’m not necessarily against a white guy as Goku, considering he’s not from this planet, ergo how is he necessarily asian? Most people think he should be asian, but what we must remember is Goku is an alien, not a human, so he could be a fish-man if not for the pre-determined physique. Honestly, with the way he is drawn, it kind of leaves it open for disussion as for the color of his skin (which for most of the characters appear more white than asian anyway, but hey, what do I know?) One final note to finish my rant, none of the characters should be necessarily Japanese, as most would like to believe. If you look at the map of earth in DBZ, the location of West City (Bulma’s hometown) is around the middle east, and Goku’s home is in India, so honestly, the whole “true to reality” thing kind of goes out the door (which I thought it would have happened around the time monkeys were flying around spitting flame at little green men on another planet, but for some reason it doesn’t seem to do the trick for some of the hardcore fans.) Anyway, while the characters don’t necessarily have to be a particular skin color, it would be nice if the choice was consistent. All asian or all white, not some messed up combination of both, merely for the sake of ease. And, just a thought, they should also probably look something like the character. Not trying to sound critical here, but Chatwin looks about as much like Goku as Samuel L. Jackson looks like a cucumber sandwich covered with ****., and the sound of his voice resembles Goku about as much as Carrie Underwood’s voice resembles the sound of nails in a blender. Okay, so I’m exaggerating slightly, but the point is if you’re going to cast someone as a famous burly anime character, at least pick someone who has some sort of semi-muscular physique, or whose voice has kind of the goofy yet bad-ass tone to it, or whose face has a more anime feature to it, and with hair that can be foofed up into the crazy cosmic hairdo worn by most DBZ characters, not an Orlando Bloom, skater-boy wannabe with about as much personality as burnt toast. Honestly, while Chatwin may be the worst, he’s not the only bad choice. The chick (I can’t remember her name) who plays Chi-Chi doesn’t even slightly resemble her, and the fact that I’ve never even heard of her or anything she’s played in make me all the more skeptical of her ability to accurately portray her character. Joon Park looks more like a gangster rap wigger duschuebag than . . . okay, Yamcha isn’t exactly the poster child for respectable young men. But come on! Yamcha really doesn’t come off all that hardcore. Cocky, yes. Lady’s man, hell yes. But he doesn’ have the feel of someone who eats woodscrews for breakfast and washes them down with a large dose of sulfuric acid. Finally, aside from the casting it also seems as though the honorable Stephen Chow has decided to throw in a scene where Goku goes to high school. Okay, since when did that happen? Goku never went to high school for a reason: he has the common sense of a two-year old, syphilitc, autistic kid on crack. He doesn’t have the booksmarts to make it past the first grade, let alone into high school. Besides, his passion is fighting. That’s the whole reason Chi-Chi is so adamanat about Gohan’s schooling. Case in point, Goku does not go to high school. Ever. In conclusion, I wish I could say I expected it to be true to the series but I doubt that very much. I wouldn’t even mind so much if they tried to american-ize it, but it doesn’t look like that will be the case, either. What we have is a middle of the road, half-assed attempt at bringing one of the world’s best cartoons ever to the big screen. Maybe if they had a better cast and a more consistent plotline, it would at least be worth seeing, but as it stands right now, it looks like just another failed effort for trying to have your cake and eat it too.
I think Justin will do fine.
In the orginal Dragonball series, goku was eight years old when he Bulma. And Bulma was only 16. And Piccolo wasn’t Piccolo, he was Piccolo Daimao. In the Dragon Ball Z series he seperated himself into two diffrent parts. Piccolo,( the picture above) and Kamiccolo. I can’t stand it when Hollywood tries to make an Anime into a live screen adaptation, IT ALWYS SUCKS. PLUS THE CAST SUCKS AS WELL. I know everything there is to know to about the Dragonball Universe, and i’m not the only one. I BEG THE PEOPLE WHO ARE MAKING THIS MOVIE, TO STOP, AND LEAVE IT JUST THE WAY IT IS. There are going to ruin this Anime, like they do all of the other ones, that they try to bring to the movie screen. I don’t mean to be negative, but leave Dragonball the way it is. I’ve all ready seen every episode of Dragonball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT. If they make a movie, it’s not like they are going to show anything that I have not all ready seen. JUST LEAVE THE DRAGONBALL UNIVRESE ALONE.
JUSTIN CHATWIN, THE WHOLE CAST, AND EVERYBODY ELSE WHO FUNDED, OR OTHERWISE PARTICIPATED IN THE MAKING OF THIS MOVIE, IS A PIECE OF ****. LEAVE THE DRAGONBALL UNIVERSE ALONE.
