“Atonement” Movie Posters
Peep these new teaser posters for Atonement starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy.
Synopsis: In 1935, 13-year-old fledgling writer Briony Tallis (Saoirse Ronan) and her family live a life of wealth and privilege in their enormous mansion. On the warmest day of the year, the country estate takes on an unsettling hothouse atmosphere, stoking Briony’s vivid imagination. Robbie Turner (McAvoy), the educated son of the family’s housekeeper, carries a torch for Briony’s headstrong older sister Cecilia (Knightley). Cecilia, he hopes, has comparable feelings; all it will take is one spark for this relationship to combust. When it does, Briony – who has a crush on Robbie – is compelled to interfere, going so far as accusing Robbie of a crime he did not commit. Cecilia and Robbie declare their love for each other, but he is arrested – and with Briony bearing false witness, the course of three lives is changed forever. Briony continues to seek forgiveness for her childhood misdeed. Through a terrible and courageous act of imagination, she finds the path to her uncertain atonement, and to an understanding of the power of enduring love.
Atonement opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, Dec. 7.

This movie is a masterpiece. James McAvoy especially, and the entire cast, are astonishing. The screenwriter stayed true to the book.
Good that it came out so close to Veteran’s day. This movie is a powerful comment on many things but it should cause people to stop and truly think about the horrors of war…
Why is Angie being mentioned in this thread at all?
This movie is a haunting wonderfully acted arthouse movie. Keira is amazing in this, showing real range and depth in this performance. All the characters are flawed, and all the actors do them justice…there are a lot of themes in this movie, some subtley hinted at others more obvious. I really would recommend seeing it, if you love heart breaking love stories, its a real oscar contender IMO
Oh and did I forget to mention that James McAvoy is so gorgeous and sooo wonderful in this film. He carries off every scene with brilliance, without having to sya much.It is impossible not to love his portrayal of Robbie in this…
That’s funny, It was released in the uk months ago! I’ve seen it. Very good.
Me too i’ve seen it and I have to admit that James Mcvoy is a good actor, and Keira was annoying as usual. James is a real talent so if this movie bombed in the us it would be because of her. Joe write directed the movie is also did pride and prejudice with her and it’s again based on a novel. I think that is a bit easy so I don’t want this movie to win an oscar. I’d prefer something more original for once.
U need to go see this film it is so good. Im not usually a kiera fan but she is perfect for the part. Angelina is a great actress and gorgeous but not right to play Ceclia. Its great to have a film set in Engalnd actually with British actors!
I think ssome people keeps ofn mentioning angelina just to annoy people. Of course Angelina is into other type of roles, more mature, just look at what she is filming right now, those are her chioces.
I like Kiera, I love moovies that depict other times, going to see this :)
The “power of enduring love”? Excuse me? Don’t know about the movie, but the book, “Atonement”, tears such notions to shreds. Unsentimental and powerful, it shows how circumstances of history and class intersect with uncontrolled erotic feelings to produce tragedy beyond the power of individuals to control. McEwan never tells us what would have become of Robbie and Cecilia’s romance had Briony not interfered, because, in the end, it wouldn’t have mattered. They were doomed anyway. If this review reflects the movie, then we’re in for a grotesque, but typical, Hollywood whitewash.
James Mcavoy is incredible in the film! It was a really really fantastic film altogether! Well filmed, well told from all perspectives, and the ending is quite a surprise for those who goes in knowing nothing about the film.
Atonement was a pretty good flick; it looked and felt a lot like Pride and Prejudice… come to think of it, both movies have the same director, leading lady, both are based on books and both take place in England
