Hairspray! The Beat Goes On
Entertainment Weekly takes a sneak peek at the Hairspray DVD (release date November 20, 2007) and shares a video of the song, “I Can Wait.”
This wistful sweet ballad was composed especially for the film as a solo for heroine Tracy Turnblad (played by Nikki Blonsky), and was actually shot for the film, but was eventually deleted before the final release.
The scene shows Tracy singing the ballad while locked up in Prudy Pingleton’s bomb shelter basement, interspersed with montages of events that took place earlier in the movie.

i was wonderin when it was comin out because they said it was coming out on the 13th. i am going to watch the “run and tell that” scene over and over. elijah kelly did his damn thing in the movie.
You honestly have to be such s grumpy old **** not to enjoy hairspray even a tiny bit, I absolutley loved it!

Yay! I love Nikki Blonsky! She is so gorgeous and talented, not to mention sweet, funny, and down to earth. Also, William, you are so right. There’s not a thing in the world wrong with big girls. Nikki is brillaint. Her talents far surpass those of many other young stars out there. She WILL make it in Hollywood. She is classy and down to earth. She will make it. There is nothing wrong with her not being a size zero and that wont keep her from making it in that business. Look at Queen Latifah, she has gotten PLENTY of amazing roles. Saying she’s too big for Hollywood is pure bullcrap. Not everyone will be nice, but thats how it is in the real world, not just Hollywood.
I cannot wait for Hairspray to come out. That DVD is going to be packed with amazing stuff.
yeah you tell ‘em Jules, Nikki Blonsky already wrapped another movie after Hairspray and is working on a third. She’s pretty unique which will get her far.
Her rendition of this moves me to tears. Nikki has a phenomenal voice and will not be confined by the Hollywood regime because she has the talent across the board for film, TV AND theatre which believe me she will excel in. Above and beyond all that she has class and a sense of humour about herself and the industry. Very old Hollywood, she’s a star in the true sense of the word.

Jules and Irish, well said. Nikki has something that a lot of other girls in Hollywood lack: talent. She’s smart and funny, and seeing as how she’s already wrapped one movie and is currently filming another one, I think it’s safe to say she’ll have plenty of work, unlike some other people I could mention. Not that I am thinking of anyone in particular, HUDGE.
and then we have award season coming up. and she’s sure to get some nominations. :)

Hey, all i’m saying is that in “hoollywood” girls who are skinny get more roles, it’s that simple. For example, Transformers… Nikki could never apply for the role, co-star Shia Lebouf. I’m sorry but she can’t be the “love intrest” or w/e. A story about a struggling teen with her weight… yeah sure but the actress the guy has a crush on… i don’t think so.

And we know that it’s hard for plus sized girls to get the “love intrest roles” BUT there are plenty of roles out there for normal people! And whose to say a guy like that wouldn’t have a crush on Nikki hmmmm?

Even all the veteran actors of HS were amazed by Nikki’s talent and grace. I think that speaks volumes.
So the only important role a woman could have in a film is to be the love interest? Wow I sure love your logic.
Maybe she couldnt get those roles, but she will get far better ones. That actually prove her talent as more than the “love interest”. She is leading lady material. She is above being the eye candy, even though she is a stunning woman. Her curves are sexy and more and more in Hollywood that is considered a beautiful thing.

Nikki can actually act. She’s talented enough to pull off any role. And IA Jules, although Nikki is quite capable of playing the love interest…that’s not what all roles are. Nikki will blow us away with any role she plays.

In hairspray it had nothing to do with love interest but who Tracy was. Everyone fell in love with this character because she didn’t care what the world said she knew what she was meant for.
Nikki doesn’t need a man to define her in this world and that is what is so great about her. She knows what she wants and goes for it.

Great to see some news about Nikki! Thanks for finally giving her some solo time. She was super in Hairspray and John Travolta said she was so sophisticated and amazing that he was blown away by her! I would say that’s a pretty good testament to her talent.
Hopefully we will see and hear much more about Nikki Blonsky in the near future. She is an inspiration to young girls everywhere. Loved seeing her and Zac work so well together. For two young people they were very professional and had great chemistry . Can’t wait for the DVD.

I don’t know that Nikki can change hollywood. She’s good, but not that good. What she can do is help other girls and young women see the potential within themselves and strive to love themselves as they are and shoot for their dreams. She can also make movie execs and directors wake up and open their eyes to a greater world out there than the no-talent sticks that tend to make it. Nikki is a real role model. I think what a lot of people seem to be missing is what actually constitutes a successful acting career. Some people become celebrities, other people become actors. Nikki Blonsky is in the latter category. She may not be able to play ‘every’ role but she will play MANY roles because she by definition of not being your sterotypical lead a character actress and this is a plus factor in her career NOT a minus. Let’s remind ourselves of another young actress once considered unconventional…

She will build a career because based on her choices so far she has a strong team behind her and is staying out of the Hollywood rat race, you can play the game on your own terms if you make a decision about what you want to be. Do you want to be a star or do you want to be an actor? I know which I’d rather be.

She is an amazing and a true talent! Wow she is everywhere these days with her singing and acting. Great to see her in different roles because she is not just a one dimensional performer.

Okay, first I want to say that I’m very happy for Nikki and this is a cool thread. It’s great to get a peek at this deleted scene. I am very excited that the dvd is only days away now and I will be up that morning getting it at the store. :-)
Next, just wanted to say it was a little sad to read through and see the comparisons here…and if there’s real honesty, unless I missed some posts because they were removed for abuse or something, I don’t think I saw any that bashed Nikki with a comparison to she who shouldn’t need to be named since it is indeed a Nikki thread. What I mean is, the mentions of you know who came about by those defending Nikki. Anyway, just seemed, well, counterproductive to me. I am a fan of said gal too and I didn’t have any intention of discussing her here.
So, basically, maybe we can focus on Nikki’s awesomeness and leave it at that. And, I agree with narf #114. Peace is good…I like both but I respect the one this thread is celebrating. :-)

I really hope Hairspray beats HSM2. I mean, I like the hsm2 soundtrack and I listen to it about every day but the hairspray soundtrack is way better. I think the people in hairspray have more vocal talents than the people in hsm. granted zac efron is in both but his vocal talents are more showing and shining in hairspray than they are in hsm. also, I think the hairspray songs have more depth to them.

I would love bloopers too…but I’m wondering if either the HD DVD version, which I think comes out in early ‘08, or some other super duper must-have edition will include them. I love the movie and I’m not saying it’s not worth it, but I’m thinking that the producers and such are going to milk it for all it’s worth. The HAIRSPRAY soundtrack is much more professional and deserving of the award. It has depth of voices and the songs are fabulous. If it were chosen by music professionals in the business, it would be a no brainer to win. But with all the tweens voting I’m not sure the best soundtrack will win.
The DVD will be able to bring that amazing uplifting, toe-tapping music to our homes! Can’t wait!! Miss Blonsky was a super talent in the movie.

I love this girl, she’s amazing, beautiful and very talented. I hope she’ll have a big career. But Hollywood is a cruel world and who knows what will happen. I fear that she will only get the role of the fat girl in movies. I think she will have to lose weight to get other roles. But I trust our Nikki, she is made of win!

Perhap’s Vanessa is just happy to be working on her album and her other endorsment’smaybe she will do anothermovie apart from HSM but why should she rush into one so that people can just say more nasty things about her,if she’s happy doing more music than acting that’s her choice.
All I will say about the Zac/Nikki thing is that yes theymaybe be friend’s but asfor anything else no, if Zac wanted to be with Nikki that much he would find a way and sowould Nikki. Nobody make’s Zac stay with Vanessa or go out place’s with her he does it through choice, and asfor the looks that Zac give’s Nikki they have been while they’ve been promoting Hairspray and nothing outside of that, the look’s he and Vanessa give each other are totally different.
I’ve nothing against Nikki and don’t see why her size should be a problem,I’ve seen clips of Hairspray and she does a great job and looks like she was having fun so good for her, and Ihope she contiune’s to do well, but as for anything between her and Zac other than friendship I just don’t see it.
I am going to buy Hairspray as I have always liked Joh Travolta and it look’s like a great movie to watch.

Great breakout movie for both of them! Kids and adults alike enjoyed it!!! A super production!
Tried to watch HSM#2 just to see what all the hype was about. Hated it….so cheesy, …the acting was jut so-so. It could not compare to the cast and total package HAIRSPRAY brings to the big screen. Great for little kids and tweens so Disney will make lots of money but I could not stand watching another minute of it. Let’s face it, without the heartthrob, Efron, the movie would be a flop. He is the catalyst for it’s success. That guy is gonna be very rich by the end of this deal.
I am a Hairspray junkie and found Nikki adorable in the part of Tracy. What a great talent for such a little dynamo. Can’t wait to buy the DVD.

With that being said, if you say HSM sucked, fine, that’s your opinion. If you say Nikki is more talented than Vanessa, that’s your opinion too. But to debate on these threads in such a hateful manner is unproductive. If I were Nikki or Vanessa, I’d certainly be laughing at you all.

I know that but my point is that even though people live opposite parts of a country if they really want to be together and make a relactionship work then they take the time and energy to put into a relactionship for it to happen no matter where they live.
And if Zac is so unhappy to be with Vanessa why the hell would he stay with her, go on vacation with her, spend his birthday with her, go other place’s with her, that’s a hell of a lot of time to spend with someone you don’t want to.
And I dare say that Nikki go’s shopping since when was that a crime, if you don’t know Vanessa personally then how do youknow how she spends her day and what she does we only see what the press take which is only a small part of her daily routine.
So she’s not done another movie since HSM2 she did plenty before and long before Nikki did, but Vanessa also has a singing contract so just maybe she wants to concentrate on that for a while and do the odd movie here and there, that’s her choice and nobody else’s.
This post isn’t even about Vanessa, so can we please all refrain from talking about her? I get there are people who like her than those that don’t. Arguing about that here isn’t going to change anyone’s opinion. Neither is going back and forth about the ZV vs ZN thing, so can we just agree to disagree. Not all Nikki fans go on posts about Vanessa and bash her. I personally don’t anyway. The way I see it if you don’t like someone then don’t go into a topic about them. It’s as simple as that. The only time I’ve said anything bad about V is when people are bashing Nikki in favor of V. Sorry but that warrants the clawa coming out. Anyway I don’t see why this has to be an either/or thing.

People saying somrthing bad about one does not warrent negative comments about the other. Thus the saying two wrongs don’t make a right.
If someone bashes the person you admire, be it Nikki, Vanessa, or any other celebrity, you CAN defend them without insulting another celebrity. Why?, because the celeb you end up bashing is not responsible for those bashing your favorite.
And unless these celebrities have done something to you personally, there really is no reason to bash any of them in the first place.

Sorry, lp, but I do see you on Vanessa threads saying how you see no chemistry, etc. I see all of you make comments, and they’re not necessarily bashing. But it’s obvious you are all Nikki fans, and want to see Zac with her instead, so you always have something negative to say about them together. You can deny it all you want, but I have a pretty good memory for names, and I’ve seen you all before. The difference with most of us “good” Vanessa fans, is, we don’t say negative things about Nikki…even if we think them, cause we’re not rude and disrespectful.

I agree with go sox actually. And it’s not just Nikki fans who bash Vanessa, it’s Ashley fans too. The sad part is that most Vanessa fans don’t even bash those two stars, whereas Nikki and Ashley fans feel the need to bash Vanessa in order to make their celebrity look better.
I find it very irritating when Nikki and Ashley fans insist that people should not bash their favorite celebrity, yet turn around and bash someone else’s. It’s hypocritical, stupid and unnecessary, and it makes me want to bash their celebrity in return, just to show them how it feels. I don’t like Nikki or Ashley, but I never go out of my way to bash them, no matter how much I may want to. If Vanessa fans can restrain themselves from bashing Ashley and Nik, then why can’t you guys?
And I find it almost disrespectful when people insist that Nikki and Zac, or Ashley and Zac, make a better couple when Zac is obviously with the girl of his choice. And since none of you are Zac, and none of you know Zac, you don’t know who he wants, and I wish people would stop acting like they do. He’s with Vanessa, and no one else but him has the right to say who he’s better off with.
