Hairspray! The Beat Goes On
Entertainment Weekly takes a sneak peek at the Hairspray DVD (release date November 20, 2007) and shares a video of the song, “I Can Wait.”
This wistful sweet ballad was composed especially for the film as a solo for heroine Tracy Turnblad (played by Nikki Blonsky), and was actually shot for the film, but was eventually deleted before the final release.
The scene shows Tracy singing the ballad while locked up in Prudy Pingleton’s bomb shelter basement, interspersed with montages of events that took place earlier in the movie.

Nikki is brillaint. Her talents far surpass those of many other young stars out there. She WILL make it in Hollywood. She is classy and down to earth. She will make it. There is nothing wrong with her not being a size zero and that wont keep her from making it in that business. Look at Queen Latifah, she has gotten PLENTY of amazing roles. Saying she’s too big for Hollywood is pure bullcrap. Not everyone will be nice, but thats how it is in the real world, not just Hollywood.
I cannot wait for Hairspray to come out. That DVD is going to be packed with amazing stuff.
yeah you tell ‘em Jules, Nikki Blonsky already wrapped another movie after Hairspray and is working on a third. She’s pretty unique which will get her far.
Her rendition of this moves me to tears. Nikki has a phenomenal voice and will not be confined by the Hollywood regime because she has the talent across the board for film, TV AND theatre which believe me she will excel in. Above and beyond all that she has class and a sense of humour about herself and the industry. Very old Hollywood, she’s a star in the true sense of the word.

Jules and Irish, well said. Nikki has something that a lot of other girls in Hollywood lack: talent. She’s smart and funny, and seeing as how she’s already wrapped one movie and is currently filming another one, I think it’s safe to say she’ll have plenty of work, unlike some other people I could mention. Not that I am thinking of anyone in particular, HUDGE.
and then we have award season coming up. and she’s sure to get some nominations. :)

She’s pretty much a shoo-in for a Golden Globe and BAFTA nom :) She’s already won a Young Hollywood Award and Rising Star Award this year, it’s just the start for her :)

And I have no idea why they cut that from the movie. It was a good song and her voice sounds amazing in it. Loved how they weaved in the scenes from earlier in the movie.

Anyways, Nikki is a triple threat, she can sing, dance, and act. She has a personality thats real! ThankGod! We need more girls like her. She doesn’t have to pretend to be happy. She has a good team behind her helping her make the right decisions!

I love this movie but I really despise her voice.
Jared - It’s about time that you are giving Nikki some attention on her own! She is amazing with Zac, and they are such great friends and have terrific chemistry on and off the screen, but she deserves her own recognition.
