George Clooney Donates $25,000 to Writers

George Clooney has generously donated $25,000 to the Actors Fund, according to Variety.

The donated funds will provide emergency assistance to workers in the entertainment industry who fall on hard times because of the strike.

“To people like myself, the strike is a forced vacation, but with the rhetoric high, and two other strikes looming, there is the fear that a prolonged strike can destroy people who make a living in this industry,” Clooney, 46, said. “My hope is that people who can afford it will take responsibility for this and help out. This felt like the right place, because the Actors Fund is the most inclusive. It helps writers, and everyone from craft services workers to agency assistants who have been laid off.”

Bless George’s heart!

Go George!! So very thoughtful of him to know how important the writers are to the industry.

It will be interesting to see who steps up and matches it. Sure couldn’t hurt Ellen at all to follow in his footsteps.

Thank you Jared!!

And thus George’s Oscar campaign has started.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Oscar campaigning at its best. It might have been genuine, but I’m not convinced.

huh ?? only that?

Skeptical , no ulterior motives ? He doesn’t strike me as a compassionate guy.

He’s aging fast, looks like a 60 yr.old.

Dig a little deeper George

I think it was very nice for him to do that, seeing as how a lot of the main shows that ppl watch like supernatural, gossip girl, etc. only have 5 new episodes left. until this strike is over, the writers can’t write new episodes resulting in shows being cancelled early.

The ppl who are in charge in handing out the money believe that the fans “will be too lazy to get off the couch to support their shows”.

So thank you George Clooney for doing something about it.

11 lol Hey come on George I need the money, I’m a writer too. See, I’m writing!

iheartlasagne @ 11/19/2007 at 2:29 pm

Whether it’s genuine or not, and whether you think he could have given more or not, I suspect it’s more than any of you geezers gave. I’m just happy to hear something positive about Clooney since the stupid Fabio debacle.

Good for George! I hope many other celebs will do the same.

If it wasnt for the writers actors wouldnt have jobs.

And from what he says this stike is affecting a lot of people, not just the writers.

Glad to read this about George.

Wow Jared you’re slipping FRIDAY’S NEWS!!!

that’s a nice gesture.

“Clooney said he plans to make this the first of periodic donations to the fund”

Guess there’ll be more where that came from then?

It’s always George, being proactive. Great going! If the actors are going to strike (or threaten to), it’s nice to see them doing something like this to help out.

TiredofthisCrap @ 11/19/2007 at 4:44 pm

George should donate to the TiredofthisCrap Law School fund. Donations are taken at.. just kidding, that’s nice of him to help folks out.

Michael Clayton opens Dubai Film Festival

Dubai, 17 November 2007: The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) today announced that the critically acclaimed thriller MICHAEL CLAYTON will open this year’s festival. Lead actor George Clooney (Oscar winner Syriana, Good Night and Good Luck, Ocean’s 11, 12 & 13) will attend the star-studded Opening Night Gala.

Tony Gilroy’s feature film debut draws from the political undertones of the Bourne series to tell the story of Michael Clayton, a corporate lawyer who is increasingly disillusioned with his life as a ‘fixer’ of unethical legal cases. Clooney plays the titular role, alongside co-stars Tilda Swinton (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe) and Tom Wilkinson (Batman Begins, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).

Abdulhamid Juma, Chairman of DIFF, welcomed the team behind MICHAEL CLAYTON at DIFF 2007 for the film’s Middle East premiere, saying: “We look forward to once again hosting Mr. Clooney in the Emirates. As a Hollywood veteran and filmmaker, his knowledge will add considerable value to industry panels and discussions, and Michael Clayton will undoubtedly be very warmly received by festivalgoers for our Opening Gala.

god bless his big heart

Well done, George - not! So he needed some good press badly after being encountered drunk in public more than once, after the ridicule he had to endure because all those “not wearing panties” pictures of that former go-go dancing ex-waitress that is his present escort popped up.

Neither is he the first to donate, nor has he given the biggest amount, but he had it announced, so all can see what a big Oscar-campaigning hypocrite he is.

THAT’S MY MAN!!!

landofaloha @ 11/19/2007 at 11:26 pm

Alterior motives or not, he DID NOT have to donate anything. It’s a nice gesture, one that I’m sure the folks criticizing him have not done. Love him, and he is a silver fox!

When you give some money, then you will have the right to give your opinion of why George donated.

Why can’t he just give the money and forget about the publicity? If his intentions were purely good, he wouldn’t announce what he did….he’d just DO it. Like David Letterman.

hope this money will help people. But maybe he should help people who are dying in Africa and other parts of the world rather than people in the “industry”.Anyway its better than nothing.Well done for being so generous and not making such a big deal out of it.succesful pr george!

I am sure other people gave to the writers strikers so why is geoge clooney getting all the press
