Brad Pitt Drops ‘State of Play’

Brad Pitt has dropped out of State of Play and Universal Pictures is currently trying to replace him, according to Variety.

If Brad’s character doesn’t recast and get the picture going by Nov. 29, it will begin losing the other actors in the film and Universal can bring a lawsuit against Brad for bailing.

Brad was set to star alongside Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman and Robin Wright Penn in the Matthew Michael Carnahan-scripted adaptation of the British miniseries. Brad was playing a politico-turned-journalist who spearheads a newspaper’s investigation of a murder, a trail that leads to the fast-rising pol whose campaigns were once masterminded by Brad’s character.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brad has pulled out because of script concerns and the script cannot be worked on due to the writers strike.

Who could possibly fill the shoes of Brad Pitt??

Looks like Daddy Pitt is looking for kid friendly movie to do:

With his sister as illustrator, the book is titled “Rusty the Rainbow Trout Moving Day.” It’s centered on Rusty, a rainbow trout who unexpectedly learns one day that he and his military family would have to move.

The book is just the first of a planned series where we follow Rusty as he grows up and faces other tough issues like bullying, drugs and even war.

“There’s a death planned in the series, and he’s going to have to deal with that,” says Irvin.

While the book is only in stores now, it might soon be on the big screen. A motion picture company is now considering featuring Irvin’s book in an upcoming movie starring Brad Pitt.

They are immensely successful people, not just as ACTORS but also as producer (Brad) and as UN ambassador (Angelina). They didn’t do it by being dumb or self destructive.

It doesn’t surprise me that they are utterly professional and charming. There are many reasons why directors and producers and script writers want to work with Brad and Angelina, but surely one of them is that Brad and Angelina are well liked and well respected. As so many LOSIES have pointed out, Brad and Angelina have not always delivered the box office numbers but still, they keep getting work. Why?? Its obviously not just the money but their talent, their professionalism, and being fun to work with which keeps attracting the work. There may be divas out there but somehow, I don’t think divas survive for as long as both Angelina and Brad have in this highly competitive business.

Johnny Depp may not like the script either.

+++++++++++++

I think Universal is being incredibly shortsighted. If Brad Pitt doesn’t like the script and think it needs to be taken back closer to the original script…then why would universal think OSCAR WINNERS AND NOMINEES like Crowe, Depp & Hanks are going to be anymore interested in the project than Brad is? Doesn’t Universal think, “OH SNAP! Tom & Johnny are gonna call Brad for the 411! And Russell’s a pain in the ass. Nobody wants to work with his diva ass! We are soooooooooooo screwed!”

It seems to me they’re going to have to go for a B-lister to get this project rolling. And I really doubt that Johnny Depp is going to be interested in a political thriller set in LA & DC. Tom Hanks? Maybe. If the script is top notch and he agrees with the director’s vision. But…if he’s putting up road blocks because of a bad script for the Da Vinci Code sequel - which the original sucked, so maybe that’s why he’s being so hardcore about it - then why would he sign onto another project where an A-list actor has walked because of script concerns?

My advice to Universal is - call Matthew McConaughey. He really doesn’t read his scripts too carefully, so the script is NOT going to be a problem. Plus, he needs to start doing some serious movies and put his rom-com days behind him. He’s a much better actor than his last few movies have shown him to be. Then again…the young Brando couldn’t save movies like “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days,” “Wedding Planner” and “Failure To Launch”.

The fact is - there just aren’t too many A-list actors out there who aren’t going to want some kind of changes made to the script. That’s what it took to get Angie to sign on to Wanted as a last-minute replacement for Halle Berry…and that’s what it’s going to take UP to get a GOOD replacement for Brad.

James McAvoy is a dwarf like Tom Cruise. JM will never have the sex appeal Brad Pitt has.

+++++++++++

True…but unlike the Tiniest of Toms…McAvoy is elfishly cute…AND STRAIGHT!

Karma ? good karma will always be with Brad, the one with bad karma is the one shooting the wannabe movie with some D listed actors and director in the remote town of Oregon, who had a few producing projects for years and can’t be greenlight even stooping so low kissing the ass of the Universal boss daughter can’t help her project. while, Brad’s plan B has several project on production with severals on pre-production. Brad finally settle down with a family and kids while who was still childless at almost 40 and still searching for her soulmate. yes, that’s karma1

James McAvoy was kinda cute and quite talented but his limitation was his height, he was so short. He can’t be another Brad Pitt nor George Clooney.

the real tita @ 11/22/2007 at 3:46 am

#313: now that’s funny! Maybe the trolls can scrape enough fare for a Greyhound bus and visit Aniston in Oregon. The papz don’t seem to be interested in traveling over there to take pictures so maybe they can bring their little cameras and do it themselves.

Angie gets pursued even in unknown towns outside of North America, Europe and Asia yet the ex couldn’t even get a reporter to follow her in a state that close to California. Bigfoot had more sightings than this obscure diva buried in the woods of tra la la.

So we’re guessing the reason why she wanted Courtney to come to her is because she thinks her BFF will be able to drag some media along to give her the much needed publicity. From B-list to A-list to D-list. Now that’s what we call KARMA. The cheapskate will have to drop some more millions for Huvane to keep her ass from being forgotten as usual.

ITAWY. How about Hugh Jackman ? he took Brad leftover on The Fountain, he is not much an A list, he would probably agree with whatever the Studio insisted.

Anyway, somebody was asking about the SOP BBC series -

State of Play

The murder of an MP’s researcher leads journalist Cal McCaffrey to uncover a complex thriller revealing the links between government and big business.

When Sonia Baker, a young political researcher, is killed on the Tube her high profile Labour MP boss (David Morrissey) is devastated. The press smell blood and questions are asked about the nature of his relationship with Sonia.

The story is pursued by The Herald, its editor Cameron Foster (Bill Nighy) and its reporter, Cal McCaffrey (John Simm), who was Stephen’s former campaign manager. Cal is uncomfortable with pursuing what amounts to a domestic scandal until his colleague Della (Kelly Macdonald) discovers a surprising link between Sonia’s death and the murder of black teenager, Kelvin Stagg.

Kelvin had stolen a silver briefcase that contained photos of Stephen and Sonia and a gun. A courier shot at the same time as Kelvin is recovering in hospital when DI Brown, who is in charge of the case, visits him, as does Della. The hospital fire alarm is set off and as they are moving the patient a marksman takes arm at him but misses and kills DI Brown.

After the murder of DI Brown, DCI Bell (Philip Glenister) is put on the investigation. He knows Della is withholding information and is determined to find out what she and Cal know.

Meanwhile, Stephen Collins’ story becomes more complicated when an anonymous fax reveals that his affair with Sonia was far from being a superficial thing - Stephen was going to leave his wife Anne (Polly Walker) for her. This doesn’t go down well with the party’s spin doctor, Andrew Wilson (Michael Feast), who is trying to keep Stephen’s reputation intact. Della realises she is being followed and that her life is in danger.

DCI Bell and Cal collude in a plan to smoke out the hit man. Meanwhile, his team pin the author of the anonymous letters to a City wideboy named Dominic Foy (Marc Warren). The discovery that he had a sexual history with Sonia leads the team to suspect that he’s guilty. Stephen may also be hiding something as Sonia knew she had the job in his office a month before her interview.

Meanwhile, Cal’s personal and professional life gets hopelessly tangled when he embarks on a love affair with Anne Collins.

This leads Stephen to tell Andrew Wilson to leak the information to the press and ruin Cal’s reputation. His only supporter now is the energy minister, George Fergus, who wills him to succeed.

Cal and his team corner Dominic Foy, who is edgy and obstructive and constantly changes his story. They discover a connection between Foy and lobbyists for the oil industry.

Stephen’s defence over the hiring protocol of Sonia leads Cal to interrogate his obtuse assistant Greer (Deborah Findlay) who finally admits to being influenced by an unexpected source. When the UK’s largest oil company gets wind of where The Herald’s investigation is heading, Cameron finds himself under pressure from his board and makes a startling decision.

Sensing that his team is close to snaring their prey, Cal invites Stephen to listen in to an interview with Dominic Foy, hoping that with a few well-aimed questions, the increasingly paranoid Foy will crack. He’s right - Foy’s confession is a goldmine, but it sends Stephen over the edge and Foy to casualty.

On the morning Cameron’s explosive headlines hit the newsstands, Cal travels to Manchester to see Anne. He is disturbed to find her supportive of Stephen when he reveals that Sonia had been planted in his office.

Stephen is now single-minded in his obsession - who in the government knew Sonia was a plant? And why are they protecting George Fergus? His anger at the scale of the deception leads him to Cal once more. But the paper’s executive editor puts the brakes on the story, leading Cal and Cameron to hatch a plan to print it. With the stakes at the highest, their story takes one final, gut-wrenching turn.

From what I read, this script has passed several hands from the first draft Carnahan made which draw Brad in the first place that no wonder it has drifted from the direction Brad signed off 16 months ago. From Michael Carnahan to Peter Morgan to Billy Ray and Tony Gilroy…..I wonder if Hellen Mirren, Edward Norton (who is writing Hulk himself), has also seen this version of the script that Universal is pushing.
