Brad Pitt Drops ‘State of Play’

Brad Pitt Drops ‘State of Play’

Brad Pitt has dropped out of State of Play and Universal Pictures is currently trying to replace him, according to Variety.

If Brad’s character doesn’t recast and get the picture going by Nov. 29, it will begin losing the other actors in the film and Universal can bring a lawsuit against Brad for bailing.

Brad was set to star alongside Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman and Robin Wright Penn in the Matthew Michael Carnahan-scripted adaptation of the British miniseries. Brad was playing a politico-turned-journalist who spearheads a newspaper’s investigation of a murder, a trail that leads to the fast-rising pol whose campaigns were once masterminded by Brad’s character.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brad has pulled out because of script concerns and the script cannot be worked on due to the writers strike.

Who could possibly fill the shoes of Brad Pitt??

Two people connected to the production, speaking on condition of anonymity so as not to pay a price for antagonizing one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, said that the producers asked Mr. Pitt for a speedy answer about its latest version of the screenplay several days before the writers’ strike, but that he registered his dissatisfaction with the script only several hours after the strike had begun
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
what a jerk.
==========================================
I would say an answer only 2 days after being presented with their “latest version” of the script is an amazingly fast and “speedy” answer in this business.

No one was sure that the strike was going to happen until it DID happen. Seems to me that once the strike was on and it was clear that no writers would be able to work on rewrites or even the normal tweaking that goes on during every movie shoot, that Pitt acted immediately to let the producers know that the situation was unacceptable.

This just shows what jerks the producers are and that they are interested in one thing: money and their 2008 lineup.

I am sure that the producers and the studio are eager to paint Pitt in the worst light possible. Too bad for them that Pitt has one of the best reputations in the business for fair dealing. No one will believe the BS from the studio and those anonymous sources “connected to the studio.”

Try again.

LMAO! at the people saying Brad’s a jerk and he’s done. Hello, Brad’s camp gave a specific date, of Nov. 3rd. that he rejected the final script, which was two days before the strike occurred. That’s easily verifiable. He’s got final script approval. Most of HW’s most successful actors are over 40 and have been in the business for a number of years, all have that clause in their contracts, for this very reason. So, don’t get pissy at the actor for exercising his right. The studio’s hand it over to them.

The studio gambled and lost. They’ve known all along that Brad had issues. All along. And the studio is full of it, because the last writer on SOP was working on the final re-write, up until the 11th hour.

The studio tried to pressure Brad into filming the movie and he said no.

Russell Crowe walked off of two movies, a week before production was to start. George Clooney just dropped out of a movie. Ryan Gosling dropped out, two days before filming. Brad’s not the first, nor will he be the last.

So the truth begins to come out.

From the NY Time article of Nov 24 which one of the studio shills posting above conveniently ignored when quoting the article:

“Another associate of Mr. Pitt, reached late on Friday, said that Mr. Pitt had rejected the last version of the script on Nov. 3, TWO DAYS BEFORE THE STRIKE, and had tried to work out a compromise with the director, Kevin Macdonald, before pulling out.” So the studio knew 2 days before the strike that they had not met the terms of Pitt’s contract.

Actors strive for the time when they get script approval. No actor wants to be powerless before a studio being forced to work on any script the studio throws at them. Writers couldn’t care less about an actor having script approval. The more work there is in Hollywood to doctor scripts the better it is for the writers in general. Now the studios don’t liek it cause they just have to pay more for writing - which this strike is showing they don’t want to do.

I read that NYtimes article, and had to laugh, because the writer was touting 3 HW big names as possible replacements for BP in one paragraph, yet, in the following ones he talked about how those 3 are available due to their respective movies being put on hold because of script problems. Hello! There’s a writer’s strike in HW, and everybody is affected, not just people working with BP. Those so called “journalists” lack the simple common sense. They think they don’t need any because their readers are so blinded by hate. they can’t think clearly. Just use a little common sense, haters, don’t be so gullible.

It’s not about the haters. It’s that the NYT wanted to make it more dramatic than it is. Like, I said, that date of Nov. 3rd, is specific and verifiable. Whereas, the studio is doing the umbrella of, “hours”. You can’t get any less specific than that. The studio is being hazy and Brad’s camp is being very specific.

And since, there have been too many printed stories out there, that seem to back up Brad’s side of the story, I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt. And the fact, that he’s had final script approval for years. He also has director approval, if he’s attached to a project before a director is.

If the script is good enough for the awesome actress Helen Mirren how the hell could it not be good enough for Mr.pitt?

Observer2 @ 11/24/2007 at 1:36 pm

The Helen Mirren, who is in National Treasure 2? First, off, they all signed on, AFTER Tony Gilroy’s re-write, it’s gone through 2 different re-writes, since then. It’s the last 2 re-writes, that screwed it up.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Helen Mirren. This she’s a terrific actress.

Observer2 @ 11/24/2007 at 1:36 pm

That should have been, I think she’s a terrific actress.

I’ve read David Halbfinger’s 11.23 N.Y. Times piece about how the studios are enjoying a certain advantage in casting this and that actor twice now, and I still don’t get the gist but I don’t really care that much. It reviews the backstage shufflings in the wake of Brad Pitt’s departure from State of Play and more particularly the effects of the WGA strike upon the schedules of Russell Crowe, Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp.

With WGA strike talks resuming on Monday, 11.26, the key phrase in Halbfinger’s piece is “the chance of a quick settlement.” The expectation in some quarters is that the strike will be over sooner rather than later. It’s said to be understood on both sides that the time has come for serious horse-trading and that terms will be hammered out by the end of next week if not sooner. But a deal won’t be revealed for a couple of weeks so that both sides can look tough and save face.

The expectation in one corner is that an announcement of a setlement will happen sometime around Pearl Harbor day — Friday, December 7th. Just before, on or just after.

Just got back from the market and Z is in the tabs again - I think Out of touch is just begging to be sued. Why are they in this little girls business anyways? They just make me sick!

The media writes to create drama. It’s the job of the readers to decide what’s the truth.

Brad has always had creative differences in his projects.

No one is suing anyone, get real.

How quickly people forget that Brad was the producer of last years hit and Academy Award winner for Best Film The Departed.

Brad was “attached” to this film and never really cast in that film.

This is all a matter of timing IMO and the studios bacd luck with this timing. The strike kicked in and everyone is pro writer so the industry better step up and try to come to terms with the writers.

Has Angie finished shooting ‘Changeling’?

Angie takes Shiloh to her Cambodian estate, lays LAND MINES around her property. Come and Get her Brad, Angie taunts and make my day”

Oh lordy, lordy. I have to spell it out. I was laughing so hard, I literally almost fell off of my chair. Oh please. Don’t give the tabs any ideas. As they are running out of fresh material very fast. Some on you ladies, PT, Jill, and others whose names escape me should really consider stand up. Or in PT’s case sit down. I will think of this and laugh throughout the day. Funny stuff. Heheheheheheh

Brad will survive this. The studio is a sh*t head for trying to force Brad to make this movie with a script they know is sh*tty.
If nothing else has been proven recently it is that the jolie/pitts always rise above the fray and come out smelling like roses. Ouuta Touch saw their feeble attempt to embarrass Angie turn on them by winning praise for her and Brad for adopting Zahara. This too shall pass and all will eventually say Brad made the right decision. Maybe not for all concerned, but at least for himself. And, people that is what this is all about. What is best for him. Save the electricion, the boom boy, the lighting specialist and lose your own intergity? Would they do that for him? I don’t think so.

Lylian, still laughing. That was too funny. Peace

The funny thing is how many holywood actors and actress drop out of a movie before????? a lot isn’t it?? why every little thing brad and angie do cause a major kayos for those little mind people??
He drop out because tt doesn’t meet his expection . Get over it!!

Why is that every little thing brad and Angie do cause a major kayos for those litte mind people? He doesn’t want to do the movie because the script didn’t meet his expectation. He is not the first or the last movie to drop out form a movie. Get over it ys.

Do the crew work exclusively for the movie studios or is it a freelancing thing? Because if I was Brad and the crew worked exclusively for the studio, I would run too. Imagine Brad going along with this project, despite his apprehensions. You know that any sign of Brad’s dissatisfaction will be reported to the tabloids as Brad’s dissatisfaction at home, since crew members are usually the tabloids ’sources’ or ‘insiders’. Just look at what happened on Grey’s Anatomy; a crew member was responsible for the Washington-Dempsey-Knight story breaking, despite the higher-ups doing everything in their power to keep the money train going. And since we’re talking about Universal, the studio behind the TBU and ultimately, the release of ___ nip pics, which a crew member was undoubtedly behind, nothing would be sacred.

Let’s face it — those who spoke out about it are probably used to speaking about the behind the scenes stuff. And IMO, the money they get from doing this is probably a substantial amount to justify their taking the position that Brad leaving the project interrupted their busy work versus Brad leaving the project could result in a better final product by getting essential script changes.

ITA everyone know this. This is common as bottled water in LA.

It’s a non story for the public and only a story for the studios and banks, not even the other actors.
