Russell Crowe to Replace Brad Pitt
Universal Pictures is trying to replace Brad Pitt in State of Play with American Gangster star Russell Crowe, according to Variety.
Just this past Wednesday, it was announced that Brad dropped out of the film because of disagreements about the shooting script.
We’ll find out early this week if Russell will take on the political thriller and/or if Universal will follow-through with a lawsuit against Brad for bailing.
Nov. 29 is the last possible date Universal has before they start to lose the other actors in the film (Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman and Robin Wright Penn).

LET THE STUDIO SETTLE THIS WITHOUT EVERYONE HEARING EVERY DETAIL OF THE PROCESS. MR. PITT IS NOT THE FIRST ACTOR TO DROP OUT OF A PROJECT AND WE DO NOT GET TO HEAR ANYTHING WHEN IT HAPPENS TO OTHER ACTORS EXCEPT THE FINAL OUTCOME. GIVE THE PITTS A BREAK, MEDIA.
Interesting editorial. Here are just parts of it.
“This is more than just a “Brad Pitt drops out of movie” story. In fact, this has a lot to do with the writers strike and while it may seem like a **** move on Pitt’s part, it is in actuality a smart move and a move that the majority of A-list actors that can afford to drop films should do.”

Already things aren’t looking good, but the “NY Times” comes next with the sentence that describes what is wrong in Hollywood:
The project was delayed while the studio tried to cajole Mr. Pitt into proceeding with some version of the script.
“Some” version of the script? Does anyone involved with this production over at Universal realize there is a writers strike? If they do realize this do they realize that nothing can be changed now that the strike is in place and until it ends?
I can only assume Pitt realized there were problems with the script and wasn’t willing to shoot something that was already set in stone. I am already anxiously awaiting when all these strike films hit theaters and the writers scream that they changed the shooting script. It isn’t going to be a pretty picture.
I can only assume, even though Hollywood trade rags aren’t openly saying it, that most of Hollywood knows the real reason Pitt pulled out of the production and if they do and if my speculation is even remotely correct I don’t see Russell Crowe, Johnny Depp or Tom Hanks jumping aboard a ship that still needs work to be righted.

That’s so true. GC backed out of a project a couple of weeks ago because of the same reasons and nobody cared or critisized him for it.
Now put Brad or Angie in any situation and it gets blown up all over the place.

This is a lot more complicated than just replacing an actor. Pitt’s action is very supportive of the striking writers. Any actor who takes Pitt’s place at this point while the strike is still on will be seen as a strike breaker or at the least not caring about the writers.
Crowe has enough problems in Hollywood. He doesn’t need to be regarded as a scab. Good luck to him ever again getting any Oscar votes from the writers’ branch of AMPAS (almost 400 votes).
Crowe is also pretty well known for also demanding changes in scripts and insisting on being a part of the directing decisions. The problem is that while the strike is on there can be no changes in the scripts can be made. When these movies come out and there is any variation from the set shooting script, the studios will have violated the union contract.
The only way I can see Crowe taking this now is if he is still desperate to get work. He may be this desperate. He has had a really hard time getting back into the good graces of Hollywood and now when it looks like he is earning his way back with some recent good work, this wouldn’t be the smartest move.
I love how these studios care about nothing but money. I also love how Jared is buying the BS that the studios are spinning on this movie. Jared, come on, man, don’t let yourself be part of the studio spin. You’re better than that.

CP, you are making the most sense so far. Good post!
Let hope he takes it!
lets hope he takes it!
Noone here has read the script so how can people say its bad and problematic?? Because Brad had a problem with it?? Theres obviously alot of actors who dont have a problem with it just because brad didnt like it doesnt mean its not a good script
hehehe LAWSUIT?There is no way they can sue brad and they know it very well, and that`s the reason why they keep bad mouthing him, beause they know they should give that money to Brad.
and at the same time they are trying to save their movie with spreading lies that movie strik and script don`t have problems.but I think RC with accepting this role can show what a cheap actor he is to accept the role without strik.
Brad just show what a powerful actor he is,and now many writers have more respect for him and that`s great for him as producer.peace.
#26 seriously. Would we be hearing so much if it were anyone else? Well, maybe if it were Angie …
The media is obsessed with these two.
RC is a good actor & he will replaced a very good one too, true , Russel Crowe needs to deal with his temper.I think he will be fine doing State of Play.
I miss the Jolie -Pitt’s, I hope, the whole family are doing fine & enjoying each other’s company. They are probably busy preparing for Pax’ birthday on the 29th of this month, he will be 4 years old.
God bless the Jolie-Pitt’s.
i have seen russell in many roles..i have seen brad in many roles i want brad to do a romatic comedy with a good simple plot not like the mexican. their both great actors…and russell has changed some. his son looks just like him(too cute)
Leona Lewis >>> Bleeding Love
CHUCK, I THINK YOU REALIZE THAT BRAD HAS DONE A LOT OF GROUND WORK FOR THIS PROJECT. HE WENT TO D.C TO DO RESEARCH ON IT RECENTLY. SO THERE MUST BE A PRACTICAL CONCERN FOR HIM TO SEE THAT THIS MOVIE WILL BE MADE WITH BAD SCRIPTS.
Russell Crowe is an amazing actor!!!!
hmmmm I think if a script has gone through several rewites and several writers, then there is a problem. If Crowe accepts the role and the script requires rewrites after the strike, thes UP does not have a leg to stand on. BP gets paid regardless. BP is a powerful prodcer with a proven track record. As someone stated, many actors and Movie companies have delayed or postpone production on several projects due to the strike. However, always a media storm when it comes to the Jolie-Pitts. UP is playing a dicey hand.
While the JP’s are preparing for pax’s 4th B’day, me and my family are preparing my little sisters 1st B’day on the same date! :D lol
Are people in denial? Two of Brad pitt’s last movies didn’t do very well at the box office so it not like he is the king of box office. RC will do a great job.
Slightly OT…
Looks like Lainey has exposed another one of her blind items/riddles. Seems that Michael Buble was the cheesy dude who’s cheating on Emily Blunt, someone who would ultimately outshine him.
I need to find the blind item.

So youre saying that JARED blows up all BP and AJ news? i think he does to its not good 26 made a good point this happens all the time but JARED is just making it a problem youre totally right TP
“BP is a powerful prodcer with a proven track record.”
What??? Brad pitt only produced 5 movies in the last 2 years and only one was a success box office wise.
RC was great in LA confidential and a Beautiful Mind, so I would be surprised if he takes on this role knowing the reason Brad left. I would assume any A list actors will contact Brad about the script before they sign up for this movie.
TWO OF HIS LATEST MOVIE WERE O13 AND AOJJ? WHICH ONE DID NOT DO WELL? ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT AOJJ THAT HAS ITS WIDEST RELEASE IN 300 THEATERS? OR 013 THAT MADE OVER 300 MILLION WORLWIDE?
Maybe Brad dropped out because he knew he didn’t have the acting chops the role required???? Chops that Russell has in spades.
