Russell Crowe to Replace Brad Pitt

Universal Pictures is trying to replace Brad Pitt in State of Play with American Gangster star Russell Crowe, according to Variety.

Just this past Wednesday, it was announced that Brad dropped out of the film because of disagreements about the shooting script.

We’ll find out early this week if Russell will take on the political thriller and/or if Universal will follow-through with a lawsuit against Brad for bailing.

Nov. 29 is the last possible date Universal has before they start to lose the other actors in the film (Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman and Robin Wright Penn).

52 bdj, All I had to do was check his recorded online right this minute and he only has five movies credited to him as a producer and the one which was a success of Departed. He himself has said he is new to producing on a UK interview with Channel 4 for his new movie The Assassination of Jesse James so don’t make him sound like he is “a powerful prodcer with a proven track record.”

Better that love scene plays by RC not Brad. :)

As much as I like Brad, they replaced him with an even better actor! Crowe is just wonderful.

#51, I didn’t say RC box office was better than BRAD but don’t make it like BP is a king of the box office…he is not and RC bits him hands down when it comes to talent.

64, I’m here to read the article and comment like yourself. And I like RC!!!

:)

Hiya! I see you didn’t change your name over the weekend. I like this :) one though!

A success is a success and a proven track record. Either way, this strike has shown who the team players are and who is not. BP has a right to stand his ground and RC has a right to accept or not. I wish BP all the best and more success prodcuing and acting. Peace to all.

I would call A Mighty Heart a success. Certainly a critical and artistic success. It is a movie that was not filmed to make money, but to be a critcal success, and that is what it is. It’s not making huge dollars, but it is not losing money either as it opens in foreign markets.

shitzy!!! we know you found new name for yourself,Ok RC is better actror than Brad.so what???still Brad is on top of money making celebrity in USA.he gains money more than will smith, more than TC and for sure more than RC.so there is no big deal.

the truth is AFTER brad pulled out of this movie and UP tried so hard to convince him.they chose RC.he was not their first choice.that`s the truth. :) RC is a rebound after Brad for UP.

think positive! @ 11/26/2007 at 11:04 am

TWO OF HIS LATEST MOVIE WERE O13 AND AOJJ? WHICH ONE DID NOT DO WELL? ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT AOJJ THAT HAS ITS WIDEST RELEASE IN 300 THEATERS? OR 013 THAT MADE OVER 300 MILLION WORLWIDE?

BRAD PITT DAY on FilmFour, showing his movies all day from 00:00

All you people critisizing Russell Crowe also mention his looks and shows how superficial you ‘Brangelina’ fans are. Russell Crowe got to where he is today because he’s a great actor. Do you really think Pitt would be where he was today if he was ugly?

I dont think ppl should be insulting RC career and acting chops when BP whole careers been based off his looks. he just started to do real work not to long ago. RC has better films and better performances

No biggie although I think Russell should stop doing these types of films.

Matt Damon ditched The Fighter because of scheduling and Brad was cast for the film.

I think Russell was miscast in American Gangster.

hiya!!yeas I didn`t change my name.I heard someone told (happy jp`s fan) I thought it was not bad at first place but now I don`t like it.so I`m still searching.

them are the facts. @ 11/26/2007 at 11:06 am

This is a lot more complicated than just replacing an actor. Pitt’s action is very supportive of the striking writers. Any actor who takes Pitt’s place at this point while the strike is still on will be seen as a strike breaker or at the least not caring about the writers.

Crowe has enough problems in Hollywood. He doesn’t need to be regarded as a scab. Good luck to him ever again getting any Oscar votes from the writers’ branch of AMPAS (almost 400 votes).

Crowe is also pretty well known for also demanding changes in scripts and insisting on being a part of the directing decisions. The problem is that while the strike is on there can be no changes in the scripts can be made. When these movies come out and there is any variation from the set shooting script, the studios will have violated the union contract.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I wonder how much deviation from the script would be seen as “re_writing” the script. I assume that ad-libbing a little is OK. But how little is OK. Whole sentences being altered? Is that OK? or just a word here or there.

Russell Crowe is a good actor and a script that does not suit Brad may well suit RC to a T. However, it seems likely that changes will be a made to a script written with another actor with different strengths and a different vision in mind. I gather from what I’ve read that almost all movies need some form of re-writing as it is filmed - to fit the strengths and individuality of the actors and actresses and directors. It is a creative process after all. However, due to the writers strike, only minimal changes may be made however during filming. What minimal might mean would be interesting.

Also, if the writers strike is resolved by December 8, this could mean that the movies which have been suspended because of the strike, including Russell’s own movie, may be revived. I wonder if he is able to do SOP if the strike is resolved by December 8 which means his own movie can proceed to film. I wonder whether Universal will bring Brad back on?

SOP is going to be a very tough movie for anyone to do. The original drama was very very good and has a bit of a cult following. The actor in the original series has already come out to say he didn’t think the movie should be made. Its rather like the movie Departed which was based on the Hong Kong Movie Infernal Affairs. There’ll be a lot of comparisons. The Departed was brilliant and held its ground against comparisons with Infernal Affairs. I think SOP will have to do the same to be successful.

Good he wont make a love scene. He’s prevented that one!

“BP is a powerful prodcer with a proven track record.”

What??? Brad pitt only produced 5 movies in the last 2 years and only one was a success box office wise.

Critical success is important also. Especially as a producer. If it was all about box office, people would be producing hard core p orn only and making millions.

I guess the movie producers should be lucky they had a lucky escape. Pitt’s movies lately have tanked at the box office and even Oceans 13 did not do as well as expected.

So are you saying RC is ugly? lol!

And shows how little you know. Most fans of Angie and Brad hate the moniker “Brangelina” and never use it.

BP gains more money that Will Smith????? Ali Will Smith???? and TC???? what planet do you live on? somebody better wake that person up its sleeptyping

:)

Dont change it, am beginning to like it! :D

GOOD DAY

They are both good actors. They are different in the roles they play but both are good. Let’s not turn this into a silly competition.

please…brad is better looking and that’s why he gets praised as being such a good actor. truth is…he’s not the better actor. if he was less attractive he wouldn’t have stood a chance at success. russell crowe is a much better actor. however, he is not considered as “commercially handsome”. people need to look past appearances.

At least Crowe is an Oscar winner.

75 truth 74 Helena

I know you two both came out of FF at the same time. but don`t be jealous toward Brad`s look and Angie`s man(I said this because it hurts alot, yeah?)
