OlderRussell Crowe to Replace Brad Pitt

Universal Pictures is trying to replace Brad Pitt in State of Play with American Gangster star Russell Crowe, according to Variety.
Just this past Wednesday, it was announced that Brad dropped out of the film because of disagreements about the shooting script.
We’ll find out early this week if Russell will take on the political thriller and/or if Universal will follow-through with a lawsuit against Brad for bailing.
Nov. 29 is the last possible date Universal has before they start to lose the other actors in the film (Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman and Robin Wright Penn).

American Gangster was a Denzel movie.
Russell hasn;t had a hit in a long time.
They are both good actors. They are different in the roles they play but both are good. Let’s not turn this into a silly competition.

The media where fascinated with Brad’s looks. Not Brad himself. He has many outstanding performances in his book and his looks had nothing to do with them. Just because you woke up now it doesn’t mean anything.
Personally I couldn’t care less of how RC looks and I find him a very good actor actually.
This is not about pitting two actors against each other. This is about HW studios and how they are willing to destroy a good project to get money.

Will this be another Gladiator for Russell Crowe? Um no. Just like it would not have been a Mr.& Mrs. Smith for Brad. It’s just another movie that will do so so. It’s a political thriller. People aren’t clamoring for that type of film. This movie will just keep him working. Anyway Brad is no longer associated with this film.

I dont think ppl should be insulting RC career and acting chops when BP whole careers been based off his looks. he just started to do real work not to long ago. RC has better films and better performances

I don’t really care to compare these two actors, but to say Brad just started doing real work not long ago is unfair. He did great work in the 90’s on serious films. Interview With the Vampire, 12 Monkeys, and Seven are all standout performances.
You only think he just started doing serious work because he had a bad performance run while he was anchored to that TV girl who sucked all the life out of him while he was “holding her together” (her words). He himself said he was in a bad place during those years and didn’t make good choices other than Fight Club. So now, he is back to a good place personally and making good choices again.
Brad has always been a solid actor, looks and all. Sure he got where he is because of his good looks, but who La La Land doesn’t? All their careers are built on their looks. But looks only get you so far. Brad would not have survived this long if there wasn’t more substance to him than that.

Brad is an up and coming movie producer. So far, he has demonstrated to have the CEO material to bring a project from start to finish. He has the connection, the charisma, and the clout to get financing, and that’s the most important trait.
He produced A Mighty Heart, an art movie which has critical acclaim. It doesnt matter what you think about him. You dont represent the majority. Hollywood loves him. He is one of the few who has domestic and the international appeal. Overseas is a huge market. We all love him.
What’s with the drama?
Crowe hasn’t accepted the role yet. And quite frankly, people talking about this film like it was destined for exceptional summer box office or Oscars seem premature.
And for the record, 3:10 to Yuma was a surprise hit.

Geez, lighten up. Your post where you comapred the two and then asked if BP would successful if he was ugly. It sounded like you were asking if he was ugly like RC.
And yes, ALL actors, even RC get their feet in the door by looks initially. I recall how RC was considered sooooo handsome during the Gladiator days, but sadly, now the alcohol bloat has taken hold of him. He’s a good actor, sure I never said he wasn’t.
And no, fans of Brad and Angie by and large do not use the “brangelina” thing. They are called the J-Ps, or some people use their initials. I think most of their fans here would agree with me on this.
I doubt that Russell Crowe will take this. If he does, it’s just another paycheck, Kaching! I bet Brad called up ol Russell and asked him if he wanted to do it.

This is silly. Crowe hasn’t even taken the role yet. He probably won’t.
Brad may even wind up back in the part before this is all said and done.
Like someone else up thread already said, this isn’t some blockbuster movie anyway. It’s a political thriller, which sadly is over the heads of most of the masses to begin with. Brad wants it to have a smart, good script. There’s no sin in that.
I actually like Russell Crowe. I loved Cinderella Man, A Beautiful Mind, Gladiator. I was not interested in 3:10 to Yuman and I didn’t care for him in Amgerican Gangster but they needed someone so……
As if Russell Crowe could ever take Brad Pitt’s place. So sad — Brad has been devoted to this project for almost 2 years and Universal kicks him to the curb over their schedule issues. How come Crowe is available? Projects are dropping right and left because they need the writers back! Thanks Brad for not caving!! The studio should listen not only to the actor Pitt but the producer that was the driving force behind getting The Departed produced — really, really stupid. I read Nicki Finke says Variety sat on the story about BP leaving for 10 days — why — to make BP look worse?
