Russell Crowe to Replace Brad Pitt

Universal Pictures is trying to replace Brad Pitt in State of Play with American Gangster star Russell Crowe, according to Variety.

Just this past Wednesday, it was announced that Brad dropped out of the film because of disagreements about the shooting script.

We’ll find out early this week if Russell will take on the political thriller and/or if Universal will follow-through with a lawsuit against Brad for bailing.

Nov. 29 is the last possible date Universal has before they start to lose the other actors in the film (Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman and Robin Wright Penn).

Thank you for a very intelligent post.

147 :) How is he making less movie than TC and WS? TC had one movie in 2005, one movie in 2006, one movie in 2007 and has one coming out 2008, same with Will Smith. But BRAD PITT had two movie this year and like 3 movies for 2008. AND don;t forget he does TV commercials.

150. NO that is because the other a-list actors don’t like using themselves as a brand to sell crap to the public.

Plus the money they make off movies is enough I guess.

“148. brad pitt has never taken big budget blockbusters like tom cruise or will smith. MAMS was the biggest and it performed big too.”

Oceans 11, 12 and 13 and Mr & mrs Smiths????

You’re very welcome!

People are getting way too excited about this. It’s not even a done deal yet. Brad may even be back in the role before it is all over.

Oh, and well, a TV girl is always a TV girl. ;)!

What’s with all these extra posts about? This thread should have no more than 20 posts. WTF is all the discussion about? Russell Crowe replaces Brad Pitt in a film. Big fking deal.

yes IWAV was good so was 12 monkeys and seven but look how long hes been doing this dont you think he should have more good films than he does? You wanna blame the “bad performance run” (your words) on the TV girl ok. BP is a “good” actor but HONESTLY do you think he would be at his level of fame without the whole break up AJ stealing him from TV girl blah blah drama? NO his personal life and looks helped his career far more than his acting. Now look at the movies hes been doing as of late they all of them have substance unlike before.

YOU ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DELUSIONAL. Brad Pitt was at this level of fame before anustain (sorry still can’t stand her) and AJ. I do agree that he hasn’t always made good films but that seems to be changing. I think he was so busy trying to be who Hollywood wanted him to be that his acting suffered.

RC is a wonderful actor and if he decides to accept this role, fine. But he and Norton are going to butt heads. LOVE ME SOME EDDIE!

Mr & mrs Smiths????

MAMS = Mr and Mrs Smith

OK,I don`t accept the fact TC will have one movie in 2008,because he has 2 but about this year and last year I don`t have opinion, because I don`t follow him,but in 2008 he has two movie.

and as I told Commercials are about popularity and look and height.(which TC and WS don`t have)so brad is so popular in overseas country, that`s why he is doing commercial.well that`s another reason why I`m saying he is more money making,he is so popular in other countries. :)

Yeah but you didn’t mention Oceans 11, 12 and 13?!!!1

say whatever you want, and i dont care. put me down all you want, and it WONT make a dent on my confidence.

i need to go to the gym, and if you want to continue this exchange, i’ll be back in about 1 1/2 hour later, and we can continue then.

Brad makes international commercials because he is an international star. Some of these others don’t have the world-wide appeal he does.

Plus, I bet more of them make these ads than anybody thinks. I know Clooney made one a few years ago. They are not cheesy ads. They are very well made and look classy. The film crews also meet Brad wherever he and Angelina are in the world, too. They will come to him. That says alot. I mean, geez, it’s not like Catherine Zeta Jones and her ads for T-mobile or Sprint or whatever it is. Those really are a bit cheesy, IMHO. But this just me, I am not trying to convince the world. Just giving my opinion.

Brad has a large family that is going to get larger. Daddy’s gotta make some bank while the sun shines, you know?

161 :) What are you talking about height? Its nothing to do with heights!!! Will Smith 6′ 2″ and BP is 5′ 11½”. Tom Cruise has been asked to do commercials and video games but he refused.

Tom may just well be better off if he were more willing to sell Edwin jeans or cell phones rather than shoving the Xenu juice down everyone’s throats.

He sure isn’t above selling the hell out of Scientology is he? Setting up recruitment tents and just annoying the nuts off of everyone on his productions. There are numerous complaints about that ****.

Give me Brad and his cell phone commercials any day, baby.

“”"”Don’t start on Tom

Look who is talking BP and AJ are worse!!!

They are selling pics of all their children’s in the name of charities. They can contribute money to charity without selling pics of their children from the money they get from movie and commercials but they dont’!!!

And we only see their bio child whenever they have a movie coming out what does that say about them. God I don’t even like Tom Cruise but at least he didn’t sell a pic of his baby.

very interesting @ 11/26/2007 at 12:16 pm

When Brad Pitt ditched his starring role in State of Play last Wednesday, it seemed like for once a production was hitting snags that have nothing to do with the writer’s strike. Not true; it turns out Pitt’s departure was due to a script problem, specifically that Pitt thinks it needs some more work and Universal disagrees, and so State of Play has become yet another victim of the strike.

But unlike other strike-affected movies, such as Pinkville and Shantaram, State of Play may not be going into a development hibernation. According to Variety, Universal is attempting to woo Russell Crowe to fill Pitt’s shoes and keep the movie on track. Crowe would have to make sure he can squeeze this film in before his March start on Ridley Scott’s Nottingham, while the studio would have to make sure that Crowe doesn’t mind problem scripts. If the actor doesn’t get cast, though, Variety points out that both Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp seem to be available thanks to the strike (same goes for Bruce Willis I think).

Obviously, Universal is hoping to get this movie made no matter what, because it needs to have something in the can once the strike has left us with a release void. Yet despite the strength of its cast, which includes Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright Penn and Jason Bateman, the studio has to understand that if the script is problematic, the outcome may be a disappointment. It’s worth pointing out that the plot of State of Play, which deals with politics and journalism, sounds superficially like the recent remake of All the King’s Men, which had a stellar ensemble yet failed anyway. State and Play may be nothing like that film, but regardless it does remind me enough to foresee a failure.

Anyway, we should hear definite word on whether or not Crowe takes the part early this week. We should also hear definite word, though probably not this week, on whether or not Universal plans to sue Pitt over his exit. The case will certainly be interesting to follow, because it could change the way in which Hollywood deals with A-list talent and pay-or-play contracts.

BRAD AND RUSSELL ARE 2 GREATS ACTORS .
brad never won oscar , it’s true , buthe’s really a good actor.
please bring tom cruise so far , because he ’s not a good actor!!!!

168 truth :
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Because he doesn’t give a sh*t about Box Office or blockbuster movie. He is a real artist. He only makes movies he is interested in and thinks it is worthy to make. not like those fcuking actors, as long as make money, they will do it even it is piece of sh*t.

Brad has said for years he didn’t ever want to fall into the traditional leading man trap. He said once they have you in that box you can’t ever get out. He was offered the Bourne franchise, and passed on it. He is happy for Matt and his success at that, but he didn’t want to do it. I am sure there are more examples just like that.

He has always gone the quirky route, and I admire him for it.
