Russell Crowe to Replace Brad Pitt
Universal Pictures is trying to replace Brad Pitt in State of Play with American Gangster star Russell Crowe, according to Variety.
Just this past Wednesday, it was announced that Brad dropped out of the film because of disagreements about the shooting script.
We’ll find out early this week if Russell will take on the political thriller and/or if Universal will follow-through with a lawsuit against Brad for bailing.
Nov. 29 is the last possible date Universal has before they start to lose the other actors in the film (Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman and Robin Wright Penn).

yes IWAV was good so was 12 monkeys and seven but look how long hes been doing this dont you think he should have more good films than he does? You wanna blame the “bad performance run” (your words) on the TV girl ok. BP is a “good” actor but HONESTLY do you think he would be at his level of fame without the whole break up AJ stealing him from TV girl blah blah drama? NO his personal life and looks helped his career far more than his acting. Now look at the movies hes been doing as of late they all of them have substance unlike before

I think he has as good a track record as any other A-lister, Clooney, Denzel, Harrison Ford, any of them. They have all had highs and lows in their careers.
And yes, I do agree that Brad’s personal life as of late has ramped up people’s interest in him. His career was flagging in the first few years of to 2000s, he said so himself, that his life was “going nowhere” during that time. He has charisma, but it is his chemistry with Angelina that really makes people take notice. He is sexier and even more yummy since he has been with her, but it is my personal opinion that he shines more brightly now because of what is going on inside of him rather than outside. He is growing as an actor, and it shows.
There is nothing more attractive than a man who wants to be a father and is devoted to his lady. And people are interested in that. They are all commenting on what special mojo he must have to have tamed the fiercely independent Jolie. She now allows him to take the lead sometimes in public, and people find that very sexy to watch.
His life changes and new perspective (courtesy of Angie) have spilled over into his acting, and I do think it has made him even better. He’s a better actor now because of maturity and having learned important life lessons, but he was always a good actor.
Like anybody else, he is growing in his craft and drawing on his own experiences.
+++++++++++++++
WELL SAID. ITAWU. Angie broaden Brad’s horizon and make him maturer in the way he perceived life. I think this somehow help his acting talent, he was so good in his last 2 films.
Don’t forget the independent Spirit Awards nominations will be dislosed tomorrow.
What happened to Russell Crown. He used to be decent looking. He’s looking rough and bloated lately.

What’s with all these extra posts about? This thread should have no more than 20 posts. WTF is all the discussion about? Russell Crowe replaces Brad Pitt in a film. Big fking deal.
******************
The only remotely interesting fact is if Russell Crowe is willing to take on a movie with a weak script. That’s it!Enough with this this non-story.Have a nice day everyone.

This is how he usually tends to look. The totally buffed out bod he had in Gladiator was the product of lots of hard work. He is very good at physically transforming himself to make the most of a character. He is wonderful in both his dedication and talent.
I thing Universal and Pitt were both looking for a way out and maybe for the same reason. Who knows…oh, some of you Hollyweird insiders?

Really, must be cute. I miss Shi and the gang.
168 truth :
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Because he doesn’t give a sh*t about Box Office or blockbuster movie. He is a real artist. He only makes movies he is interested in and thinks it is worthy to make. not like those fcuking actors, as long as make money, they will do it even it is piece of sh*t.

Cool World, Johnny Suede, The Favor real art? When he did Sleepers WS did a little “piece of sh*t” called INDEPENDENCE DAY which made $816,969,268 Worldwide I guess that wasnt worth making right im sure BP would not have wanted to waste his time making a movie like that and why make something like Men in Black when you can make The Devil’s Own
Russell Crowe most certainly did start out as a pretty boy in films. He never would have advanced without those early roles that required him to be the handsome one. The Crossing, Hammers over the Anvil, Proof, the Sum of Us, Romper Stomper, Breaking Up (one of the worst movies ever filmed), LA Confidential, The Quick and the Dead - all needed a handsome man. It wasn’t until The Insider - way into his career - that his good looks didn’t play a part in his career. Crowe’s physicality obviously also played a great role in Gladiator.
Look there’s a whole network of mostly avid female fans who would literally die for Crowe and are very vocal on the internet and elsewhere in support of him. Wherever his name is mentioned, they flock to that site in support of him. He can do no wrong in their eyes. They actually follow him around the world when he tours with that band of his or they show up at his movie sets. Even with all his assaultive behavior, his fans always blame someone else like the injured hotel clerk. it was the hotel clerk’s fault - not Crowe’s. You think Pitt is the only actor with rabid fans? No disrespect intended to the wonderful Pitt fans here.
I like Crowe. I have ever since I saw him in Proof many, many years ago. His Romper Stomper exudes sexuality and power. LA Confidential is one of my favorite movies and he was perfect in that role. Though I really thought that Oscar belonged to Javier Bardem for Before Night Falls, I was not unhappy Crowe got that Oscar as a make up for The Insider.
But Crowe and Pitt are different actors. I’m not trying to compare the two but Pitt is underrated and Crowe is overrated. Pitt has some great performances in his past and his Jesse James is excellent. Pitt’s looks have caused people to unfairly dismiss his acting. As wonderful as Crowe can be, he can also turn in some really hammy, bad performances - in Beautiful Mind I felt there were great acting scenes by him but also some really bad scenes as well.
As far as the belief that the other SOP actors must think the script is okay since they seem to still be connected, I doubt they all have script approval in their contracts so they would definitely get sued if they walked for script reasons. Scheduling conflict reasons may get them out of their contracts though.
Re: Pitt as producer. His first big production was Charlie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory which made a lot of money and was a huge hit. It was also very good. That along with the Academy Award winning The Departed for which he fought to get Damon that role and the critically acclaimed A Mighty Heart, I’d say he’s doing pretty good as a producer. Not to mention that lovely little indie movie with Molly Shannon. So snarking Pitt as a producer is way off base.
For Leona at 11/26/2007 at 11:37 am ” ….[Pitt] can’t even pull of the role of being in love with his lady hooker..”
That pretty much says it all about Leona’s biases against Pitt. That has to be the most ignorant and obviously irrational posting on this entire thread.
As for commercials, when Russell Crowe begins to do half as good with his money as Clooney or Pitt do then he can open his mouth again dissing his fellow actors because they choose to do commercials.
Pitt’s actions with SOP can help force the studios to settle this strike. Everyone in the business knows this. If any actor undermines Pitt’s move by helping out Universal, then he is not going to be very popular with most of the industry.

faith,
You sound young. It’s called life happened to Russell. Live long enough, you’ll start to look differently too, gorgeous…unless you’re slightly down syndrome…then you’ll just always look the same. K…Boo?
When will Brad finally get his due? This man has been doing this for close to 15 years and has given award worthy performances and people just don’t wan’t to give this man his props. What happened last year with The Departed was a shame, he should have gotten the award, yet he was looked over due to “rules”. He was amazing in Babel and was not nominated. Jesse James could easily be the best performance of his career, yet he his name is not on the top of the oscar contender list. It seems he does the work behind the scenes and others are quick to take credit. Regardless of the situation at Universal, Brad was the one working on the script and helped with casting. The work is done and now Universal offers the role to Crowe. A Mighty Heart would not have been made had Brad not played a part, yet he doesn’t even get props or credit for it . It is truly a damn shame.

You misread my post. I have no problem with the media being all over TomKat’s wedding. I had a big problem with that $2 mil wedding dress, but hey, it’s her money. If she wants to blow it all on a dress she will wear for six hours in her life, I think it’s tacky beyond words, but she can spend it any way she wants to.
Speaking of money, when Angelina goes overseas on humanitarian trips, she goes on her own dime. I have no problem with that either. :)
